Die Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung besteht daher darin, den Abrasionswiderstand sowie die Korrosionsbeständigkeit gegenüber Schwefelsäure von Zylinderlaufbüchsen der genannten Art, insbesondere für Dieselmotoren, zu erhöhen. Erfindungsgemäss wird diese Aufgabe dadurch gelöst, dass die Lauffläche aus einem karbidischen Grundgefüge mit einer Tiefe von mindestens 2 mm und höchstens 8 mm besteht;
Gew.% folgende Bereiche umfassen:
C 2,8-3,6
P 0,01-0,5 Smax.

The invention relates to a cylinder liner made of cast iron with lamellar and / or vermicular graphite for a piston internal combustion engine, the cylinder liner having a minimum diameter of 200 mm and a minimum wall thickness of 20 mm, and a method for its production.
The wear stresses of the cylinder liners of internal combustion engines are getting bigger, because e.g. the quality of the fuel, in particular with regard to the sulfur content and with regard to abrasive residues after combustion, has deteriorated over time. Not only does the abrasion increase, but also, due to the formation of sulfuric acid in the combustion chamber, e.g. if the operating temperature is too low, the corrosion attack.
The object of the present invention is therefore to increase the abrasion resistance and the corrosion resistance to sulfuric acid of cylinder liners of the type mentioned, in particular for diesel engines. According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the tread consists of a basic carbide structure with a depth of at least 2 mm and at most 8 mm;
A method for producing such a tread in a cylinder liner is characterized in that the cylinder liner is preheated to a temperature between 450 "and 600" C at a heating rate of a maximum of 100 "C / h, that the preheated tread by rapid heating to above The liquidus temperature of the material gradually progressively melted locally at the intended depth and then solidified again immediately following rapid cooling below the point of contact in the iron-carbon diagram with a basic carbide structure, and finally the cylinder liner with a maximum cooling rate of 50 "C. / h is cooled to ambient temperature.
The rapid heating of the affected parts to above the liquidus temperature of the alloy used, i.e. up to at least about 1200 "C, and the subsequent rapid solidification and cooling to below the point An of the iron-carbon diagram, that is to say below 730" C, a fine carbide, especially a Ledeburitic structure is formed on the tread; because this treatment brings the carbon into solution in the molten depth range. Due to the high solidification rate and cooling rate, the carbon is then in the form of iron carbide (Fe3C).
For technical reasons, the invention is on cylinder liners with a diameter of
200 mm and larger limited; furthermore, the necessary remelting depth can only be achieved if the wall thickness is at least 20 mm, since otherwise a sufficiently rapid cooling and solidification rate of the melted depth area cannot be guaranteed.
Since the surface of the cylinder liner still has to be machined after the treatment according to the invention, the minimum depth of the melted and carbidically solidified surface area must be at least
Amount to 2 mm. The upper limit of 8 mm is mainly determined by the susceptibility to cracking; It also proves useful for economic reasons.
Cast iron with lamellar and / or vermicular graphite, the compositions of which have been found to be an advantageous base material for a cylinder liner
The following areas include:
C 2.8-3.6
P 0.01-0.5 Smax. 0.1 Si 0.5-3 Mn 0.2-1 where the degree of saturation of the cast iron is 0.7 to 0.95.
The degree of saturation is calculated in a known manner according to the relationship SC = Ctotal
4.3 - (Si / 3 + P / 3)
It has also proven to be advantageous if the cast iron mentioned above is optionally alloyed with at least one of the following elements in% by weight: Ni 0.1-3 Cu 0.1-2 Mo 0.1-1 Sn 0.01-0 , 2 Cr 0.01-0.4
A cast iron of the following composition (in% by weight) has proven particularly useful for cylinder liners according to the invention: C 3.1 P 0.03 S 0.02 Si 1.2 Mn 0.4 Ni 0.8 Mo 0.4 Cu 1.5
The degree of saturation of this cast iron is 0.79.
Preheating - for example in an oven, inductively or with the help of a number of preheating burners - before melting and cooling - advantageously in an oven - after the molten layer has solidified in the prescribed manner is necessary to prevent cracks, particularly in the transition area between the base material and to avoid carbide tread.
Electric arcs are particularly suitable as energy sources for melting, whereby welding torches - especially those with a tungsten electrode - with energy densities of 2-6 KW / cm2 are particularly suitable because of the relatively simple handling and for economic reasons. Since the melting is advantageously carried out under a protective gas atmosphere, the energy source used is preferably e.g. TIG welding torch. However, it is also possible to carry out the melting with laser or electron beams.
The rapid solidification cooling to temperatures below 730 "C takes place in still air, whereby - as already mentioned - the required minimum wall thickness ensures a sufficiently rapid heat dissipation. The progressive local melting is easiest achieved by a rotating and / or longitudinal relative movement between the burner and The preheated cylinder liner It has proven to be expedient to rotate the cylinder liner progressively line by line around the fixed burner in the axial direction.
In order to achieve a fault-free running surface with a carbidically solidified basic structure, it is furthermore expedient to mechanically free the cylinder liner from the cast skin before the treatment according to the invention. After the treatment, the tread is mechanically finished in the usual way, the carbide treads then being between, for example, 0.5 to 5 mm. Wear and corrosion tests have shown that the wear resistance and the corrosion resistance of the new cylinder liners are significantly higher than with previous cylinder liners made of cast iron with lamellar graphite. For example, the corrosion resistance to 80% HSO4 (at 1700C) is improved by a factor of 5 to 10.
The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of an exemplary embodiment, the single figure in a diagram showing the microhardness as a function of the distance a from the edge, i.e. from the surface that represents the tread.
A cylinder with an inner diameter of 400 mm and a wall thickness of 80 mm made of cast iron with lamellar graphite with the following chemical composition in wt.% C 3.1; P 0.03; S 0.02; Si l, 2; Mn0.4; Ni0.8; Mo0.4; Cu 1.5; and the rest of Fe, which has a degree of saturation of 0.79, is slowly rotating, first by two gas burners with a heating rate preheated evenly from a maximum of 100 "C / h to a preheating temperature of 500" C. A TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding torch with a tungsten electrode with a diameter of 3.2 mm is permanently installed inside.
The cylinder running surface is guided past this electrode at a feed rate of 15 cm / min, an arc being drawn from the electrode to the workpiece due to a voltage U = 20.5 V, in which a current intensity of I = 200 A prevails. The melting area of the torch arc is kept in a protective gas atmosphere by means of a helium current of 7 l / min which emerges from the torch.
Immediately behind the burner, the melted area immediately cools down again under the point Arl of the iron-carbon diagram.
After the remelting treatment has been completed, the liner is placed in an oven preheated to 500 ° C. and slowly cooled at a maximum cooling rate of 50 ° C./h.
In the present example, a remelting depth of about 6 mm is achieved in this way.
In the figure, the microhardness was measured for different distances a (in mm) from the tread surface by a conventional method and plotted against this distance a. The hardnesses measured are given in micro-Vickers (MV), the measurement load being 200 g.
The figure shows the hatched scatter range of the measured hardness values. The high hardness values of the basic carbide structure result at a distance of 0-6 mm from the tread (area 1); This is followed in area 2, which runs at a depth of approximately 6-12 mm or a distance from the surface, by a heat-affected zone with a tempering structure and decreasing microhardness. Over the next 2-3 mm of the distance a, this zone finally merges into the pearlitic basic structure of the material, the microhardness of which is still about half that of the carbide structure.
