Description
The invention relates to a dental handpiece with a DC shunt motor, the speed of which can be varied by means of a controllable voltage source.
Dental handpieces with small electrical motors that are operated as a DC shunt motor are known. As is known, in a DC shunt motor, the speed decreases with the load if the DC supply voltage remains unchanged. In order to counteract this, a compensation circuit has previously been used for DC shunt motors in dental handpieces. This compensation circuit was based on using the voltage drop across a resistor in the motor circuit to control the controllable voltage source. It was assumed that the motor current rose as the speed dropped due to higher loads and a correspondingly higher voltage drop was generated at the resistor, by means of which the supply voltage for the motor could be controlled to a higher voltage value. The higher voltage value then leads to a speed increase. Although this principle does not represent a real speed control, but only leads to an approximate compensation of speed drops due to increased load (e.g. when the dental tool is placed on the tooth), this principle has so far been sufficient in practice. This includes This is because, up to now, a speed range of around 4,000 to 40,000 (ratio 1:10) was satisfied. It must be taken into account that the maximum permissible voltage in the oral cavity, which is then the same as the supply voltage for the motor, may not be higher than 24 volts by law. The speed is set by controlling the voltage source. Assuming the above-mentioned speed range of 1:10 and assuming that the speed is approximately proportional to the supply voltage for the motor, 24 volts correspond to the highest and 2.4 volts to the lowest speed. The voltage value of 2.4 volts is still so high that it is not affected too much by disturbance variables.
The invention is based on the object of substantially increasing the speed range, at least to a ratio of 1:40, which corresponds to speeds of 1000 to 40,000 rpm. In this case, the speed of 40,000 rpm would correspond to the supply voltage of 24 volts, while for the speed of 1000 rpm only 0.6 volt supply voltage could be used. With the last-mentioned low voltage value, the previously known compensation principle fails, since disturbance variables such as the carbon contact resistance, frictional resistance of the ball bearings, engine heating, etc. lead to a noteworthy influence on the voltage drop across the resistance, so that this is no longer a usable measure for the compensation is.
It would now be obvious to use real speed control using a tachometer generator that is coupled to the motor. However, this is undesirable for reasons of space in the dental handpiece and also for reasons of cost.
According to the invention, therefore, a solution is proposed which is characterized by an interruption circuit arranged in the motor circuit, a sampling and storage circuit sensing and storing the motor voltage, a controller for the controllable voltage source, a control voltage as the setpoint value and the actual value of each of the sampling and Storage circuit stored motor voltage value is supplied, and a time control circuit which repeatedly causes the interrupter circuit briefly to interrupt the motor current and the sampling and memory circuit with a delay after the start of the interruption of the motor current, but before the termination of the sampling of the motor voltage value.
The solution according to the invention assumes that the motor is operated as a generator in the interruption phase, the generator EMF being used as the actual value for a real control circuit. The interruption of the motor power supply must not be too long since the motor then loses torque. It must also not be too short, since after the interruption begins, a field degradation phase occurs in which the generator EMF cannot be measured. For this reason, the sampling must be delayed.
The solution according to the invention has the advantage that true speed control takes place even without the use of a tachometer generator and that a large control range can be covered up to very low speeds.
For a miniature motor of the type considered here, which has a maximum motor power supply voltage of approximately 24 volts and a motor current of approximately 5 amperes, a repetition frequency range of 10 to 1000 Hz, a switch-off time, were found to be particularly favorable
für den Motorstrom zwischen 250 und 500 |isec. und eine Abtastzeit zwischen 5 nd 30 usec. for the motor current between 250 and 500 | isec. and a sampling time between 5 and 30 usec.
The above-mentioned optimal ranges are based on the following findings: If the repetition frequency is too low, there are comparatively long pauses in which the engine speed can drop due to load. The result is that the motor no longer runs smoothly (it jerks) and perfect control can no longer be guaranteed. If the repetition frequency is too high, the switch-off time must be shortened in order to maintain the mean value of the supply voltage for the motor required for a certain torque, which means that when the lower limit value for the switch-off time is reached, the generator EMF can no longer be measured. because the field dismantling phase has not yet ended. If the switch-off time is too long, the motor loses torque due to a too low mean value of the supply voltage for the motor. If the sampling time is too short, the mean value of the actual value voltage becomes too low. The upper limit of the sampling time is determined by the time difference between the end of the field dismantling phase and the restart of the motor current.
So far, voltage dividers in the form of linear potentiometers (so-called starters) have been used as setpoint generators. Most dental surgeries are already equipped with such starters. With the previous speed range from 4000 to 40,000 rpm, it was possible to set the speed sufficiently with the starter. Due to the increase in the speed ratio achieved with the invention, the absolute speed setting with the same adjustment path of the potentiometer is no longer possible in the sensitive mass described. In a further development of the invention, it is therefore proposed that the sampled motor voltage value in an amplitude distortion network be influenced in such a way that larger amplitude values are transmitted with a higher damping or low gain than lower amplitude values. An approximately logarithmic distortion is aimed for, such that with approximately the same adjustment path on the potentiometer, i.e. the same setpoint voltage change causes about the same relative speed change.
A simple implementation of the amplitude-distortion network for the present case can consist of a series connection of two resistors and a diode, to which the sampled motor voltage value to be distorted is supplied, the distorted motor voltage value being taken from the partial series circuit consisting of a resistor and the diode. The diode can preferably be a Zener diode.
Es zeigt: An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the drawing. It shows:

Breaker circuit 3 with a repetition frequency of 400 Hz, i.e. the motor current is interrupted 400 times per second, i.e. with a time interval of 2500 (xsec. The switching state of the interrupter circuit 3 is shown in solid lines in Fig. 2. The interruption duration is small in relation to the time interval of the interruptions and in the present case is 300 usec.
As can be seen in FIG. 3, the motor voltage immediately above the motor 1 collapses at the start of the motor current interruption and initially turns into a counter voltage with opposite polarity through field degradation until it reaches a level of the same polarity corresponding to the actual speed how the motor voltage settles in the uninterrupted state. This low voltage, which occurs after the field degradation phase during which the motor current is interrupted, is the generator EMF, which is generated by the motor, which now continues to operate due to its inertia and acts as a generator. This generator EMF is directly proportional to the speed of the engine. The higher the speed of the motor, the higher the generator EMF.
The generator EMF is switched off after the field degradation phase has ended. with a delay after the start of the motor current interruption by a sampling and storage circuit 5, generally known as a so-called sample and hold circuit (S&H circuit), sampled briefly and then stored. The sampling time and the sampling duration are in turn determined by the timing control circuit 4, which controls the sampling and storage circuit 5. Each newly sampled voltage value is saved, the previous value is deleted. The sampling frequency is the same as the interrupter frequency, i.e. 400 Hz. The sampling takes place synchronously with the power interruption, in such a way that - as mentioned - the sampling begins when the field degradation phase has ended and ends at the same time as the motor current interruption. In the present case, the sampling time is 20 usec. has been chosen. It is short compared to the break time. The switching state of the sampling and storage circuit is shown in broken lines in FIG. 2.
The voltage value 5 stored by the sampling and storage circuit is fed to a controller 6 as the actual value voltage. A voltage 7 generated by a so-called starter is supplied to the controller 6 as the setpoint voltage. The starter 7 is a linear potentiometer which can be adjusted with the foot, the knee or with the fingers and which acts as a voltage divider. The controller 6 generates a control voltage from the comparator of the setpoint voltage and the actual value voltage, with which the controllable voltage source 2 is regulated. It is a follow-up control circuit which allows the speed of the engine 1 to be changed over a wide speed range by adjusting the starter 7, but also keeps the speed set once constant to a large extent even with larger load changes.
Der Spannungswert FIG. 4 shows that the control circuit according to FIG. 1 can be used to cover a speed range from 1000 to 40,000 rpm. This requires a change in the setpoint voltage with the starter 7 between 1 and 10 volts. To use the same voltage change steps, i.e. To achieve approximately the same relative speed changes in the same adjustment paths of the actuating element on the starter 7, an amplitude distortion network 8 is switched on between the motor 1 and the sample and hold circuit 5. This consists of a series connection of two resistors 9 and 10 and a Zener diode 11 connected in parallel to motor 1. The voltage value

Dadurch ist ein feinfühligeres Regeln der Drehzahl für den Zahnarzt möglich. for the sampling and storage circuit 5 is removed from the partial series circuit, which is formed from the resistor 10 and the Zener diode 11. The effect of the amplitude distortion network can be seen in FIG. Without an amplitude distortion network, the speed of the motor is linearly dependent on the setpoint voltage, with the amplitude distortion network, however, a lower absolute speed change is achieved with the same setpoint voltage changes in the lower speed range than in the upper speed range. This enables the dentist to regulate the speed more sensitively.
