Description
The present invention relates to a method and a device for checking and identifying electrically conductive coins.
According to the known methods for distinguishing coins on the basis of their electromagnetic properties (cf. GB-PS 1 397 083 and US-PS 3 952 851), the changes in the frequency and / or the amplitude of a freely oscillating oscillator are usually used, if one Coin moved near a coil connected to the oscillator. According to these known methods, comparison values are constantly stored in the device with which the measurement results obtained by the oscillator in the various measurements are compared. The measurements must therefore be very stable in terms of time and temperature, so that it has been found necessary to equip the circuit of various devices of this type with temperature * and other compensation circuits. According to the known methods, one or two measuring signals in sinusoidal form are used and the checking of the changes in these signals is often initiated by means of a sensor or a similar device when the coins come close to the measuring coil or the measuring coils.
These known methods have the disadvantage that complicated circuits are required to compensate for the measurement deviations and that the measurement currents generally do not allow the desired precision. In addition, the circuit is complicated by the comparison values stored in the device and it is often difficult to change these values. The oscillation of a freely oscillating oscillator is almost sinusoidal if you consider the coil connected to the oscillator circuit, so that the frequency spectrum of the magnetic field used for coin validation is almost free of harmonics. The coin is therefore tested practically with only one frequency per oscillation circuit. According to various known methods, it is also necessary to start the measurement when the coin arrives, which means that additional circuitry devices and sensors are required. Faults can also arise from the fact that different coins are introduced into the device at the same time in mutual contact.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to avoid these disadvantages of the known devices of this type and to propose a more reliable test method for coins and a device which is used to carry out this method.
The invention is based on the idea that a comparison coin entered into the device serves as an aid with which the coin to be tested is compared. The comparison can be made, for example, by means of a magnetic bridge consisting of three coils, the magnetic coupling between two transmitter coils and a receiver coil being changed by the comparison coin and the coin to be checked. This magnetic bridge is essentially influenced by the materials and dimensions of the coins.
The method forming the subject matter of the present invention and a device for carrying it out are defined in independent patent claims 1 and 4.
An advantage of the method according to the invention lies in the great simplicity of the circuit, so that the method does not require any reference memories or reference circuits, because the comparison values are obtained from the comparison coin and the comparison takes place during the measurements in the coil arrangement. The circuit is also simplified in that the requirements imposed on the measurement signal permit the use of simple couplings, since there is a lack of precision in the measurement signal or in the measurement scarf 5

In view of the constant measurements, the measurements need not be initiated with this method. The method also allows coins to be identified as they pass through the facility in mutual contact. Since any waveform can be used in the measurement signal, its frequency spectrum can be selected as desired; when identifying a coin, one can take into account its magnetic properties at different frequencies. Since the information about the properties of a usable coin comes from the reference coin, the same device can be used for any coin, since one only has to choose the corresponding reference coin.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is described below with reference to the sacred drawing.

5 shows a coil arrangement according to a third embodiment.
In the following description, the term “coin” is to be understood to include coins as well as tokens, tokens and similar items that can be used on coin-operated machines.
According to one embodiment of the device, as shown in FIG. 3, a magnetic bridge is used which consists of three coils and which comprises the mechanics and circuitry according to FIGS. 1 and 4. The coin 1 to be checked is inserted through the mouthpiece 7 into a coin channel 5. The coin channel 5 is constructed in such a way that its depth is somewhat greater than the thickness of the thickest coin to be tested. The coin channel 5 is covered by a cover plate 8 and extends through a group of coils, so that the coin 1 to be checked rolls along an inclined plane 6 between a transmitter coil 101 and a receiver coil 201. A comparison coin 2 is arranged between the second receiver coil 202 and the second transmitter coil 102. During its movement, the coin 1 rolling down on the inclined plane comes into a position in which it is symmetrical about the reference coin 2 with respect to the axis of symmetry a-a, which passes through the coils 101, 201 and 102 (FIG. 2).

A square wave oscillator 11 outputs a signal to both transmitter coils 101 and 102 so that the coils on the receiver coils 201 generate opposing magnetic fields as long as there are no coins in the device. If there is no coin in the coil channel 5 or if the coin in the coil channel does not have any electromagnetic properties similar to the comparison coin 2, then the receiver coil 201 emits a signal induced by the magnetic field. However, as soon as a coin 1 to be checked is located in the coin channel 5 and its electromagnetic properties match those of the comparison coil 2, the bridge formed by the magnetic coupling of the coils 101, 201 and 102 is in momentary equilibrium as soon as the coin 1 between the coils 101 and 201 rolls through. In this case, the signal arriving at the receiver coil 201 is currently totally prevented.
The signal arriving at the receiver coil 201 is fed to an amplifier 21, a rectifier 22, an integrator 23 and a level indicator 24; if the signal has been sufficiently suppressed for a sufficiently long period of time, the level indicator 24 gives a pulse to a monostable multivibrator 25 which controls the solenoid 26 (Fig. 1). The time constant of the monostable multi-vibrator 25 was selected so that the guide flap 3, which can be actuated by the solenoid 26, directs the coin rolling in the coin channel 5 into the channel 4 of the usable coins (FIG. 4). Thus only those coins 1 come into the channel 4 whose magnetic properties, that is to say their material and dimensions, correspond to those of the comparison coin 2 within the selected tolerances. The coil arrangement described can be modified in various ways by a person skilled in the art. For example, a coil arrangement can also be used, in which a transmitter coil and a receiver coil form an identification station 40, a similar pair of coils forming a comparison station 50 (FIG. 3).
The coils shown on the basis of the exemplary embodiment described can also be replaced by the devices 41 and 51 shown in FIG. 302 serves as both a transmitter and a receiver.
The device can also be designed in such a way that the measuring current is reduced when the magnetic bridge is unbalanced and that the measuring current rises to its normal value as soon as the magnetic bridge again strives to achieve its state of balance.
