Description
The invention relates to a device for displaying the position of the ball of a skittles game on the ball tread.
As is well known, there are different types of bowling in which, depending on the type of game, the falling of a pin is evaluated in different ways. Of these types of games, the so-called "alley play" has recently become increasingly popular. In this type of game, the alley of the bowling game in which the ball enters is evaluated. For example, a distinction is made between two lanes, one on the right and the other on the left of the center line of the ball tread. The rating of the game therefore depends on the position of the ball, which it occupies in a direction perpendicular to the ball running surface before hitting the cone footprint. The position has to be determined subjectively by observation and since this is difficult and unreliable from where the bowler is standing, an additional person is required near the cone footprint. A great deal of concentration and attention is required from this person, since even a moment of inattention no longer allows for a rating.
The object on which the invention is based is to design a device of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the position of the ball is ascertained in an exact manner, free of any subjective assessment, and this position is clearly shown to all players.
This object is achieved for the device of the type mentioned according to the invention by the characterizing features of claim 1.
Advantageous embodiments of the device according to the invention can be achieved with the features of claims 2 to 7.
Such a light barrier preferably has a light source, a reflector and a photo cell. In one embodiment of the invention, a single such light barrier is used, the light source and receiver being mounted above the ball contact surface in such a way that the light beam falls approximately vertically and strikes a point which is in the direction of travel of the ball in front of the cone mounting surface and on the side Center line lies. In the ball tread at the point of impact of the light beam e.g. a reflector is provided, which also throws the light back in an approximately vertical direction to the photoreceiver, for example to a photocell. This photocell is preferably connected to an electronic device in which a signal is emitted when the light beam is interrupted by the ball. The sensitivity of this device is preferably adjusted so that a signal is only emitted when the ball touches the axis of the light barrier. Since such a tuning can be carried out very precisely, a very precise display of the position of the ball is also obtained.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, a light barrier is provided on both sides of the center line.
A particularly expedient arrangement can be obtained if e.g. provides two light barriers in such a way that the light tracks are arranged approximately at the height of the center of the ball parallel to the surface of the ball running surface so that the two light tracks cross on the center line in front of the cone mounting surface. If the ball then e.g. rolls exactly on the center line, then both light paths are interrupted at the same time. If the ball e.g. however, moved on a line to the side of the center line, then one and then the other light path is interrupted. Depending on whether the ball rolls to the right or left of the center line, the light beam coming from the right and then from the left light source is interrupted or vice versa. In this way, one can distinguish on which side the ball is moving. The distance of the ball from the center line can then also be determined from the time difference of the interruption of the two light paths. If e.g. certain lanes are defined, the time difference for these lanes is preferably defined once and entered into an electronic device connected downstream of the light receivers. Only if this time interval e.g. is kept within predetermined limits, the signal is passed on from the electronic device to the display device. A certain tolerance must of course be given for the time span because not all balls roll at the same speed, but, as practice has shown, the differences in ball speeds are so small that a precise definition of the position of the ball is still possible. This embodiment is particularly advantageous because the light source, receiver and reflector can be attached very cheaply to the side of the ball tread.
The position is expediently displayed by means of an optical display, in the simplest case e.g. a lamp display for a right and a left alley is provided.
A very advantageous way of displaying is that e.g. a series of luminous areas in the form of a light strip2

The display device can be followed by a further device in which the results are digitized and stored, so that the ball positions can be reconstructed at any time after a game has ended and any doubts that may arise can be objectively clarified.
Ausführungsbeispiele der Erfindung werden nun im folgenden anhand der Zeichnung erläutert, wobei Embodiments of the invention are now explained below with reference to the drawing, wherein
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a cone footprint, in which the position of the light beam and that of a ball is drawn.
Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of Fig. 1 very schematically in a vertical section.
Fig. 3 zeigt die Anordnung von zwei Lichtstrahlen, und Fig. 3 shows the arrangement of two light beams, and
Fig. 4 die Anordnung der Fig. 3 in einem Vertikalschnitt, und Fig. 4 shows the arrangement of Fig. 3 in a vertical section, and
Fig. 5 shows a cone footprint, in which two light barriers are arranged so that their paths cross on the center line.
In Fig. 1 the arrangement of cones 1 to 9 on a ball tread 10 is shown. The center line M passes through the center of the cones 1, 5 and 9. The path of a light beam 11 is drawn to the side of the center line and is just touched by a ball 12. The distance between the center of the sphere and the center line is designated by a. It can be seen from FIG. 2 that a reflector 21 is incorporated at the point at which the light beam emanating from the light barrier 20 touches the ball contact surface 10. The position of the ball and the cone 1 are shown in a corresponding manner. A line 22 leads from the light barrier 20 to an electronic device 23, which in turn is connected to a display device 24 to which display lamps 25 and 26 are connected.
Figures 3 and 4 show an arrangement which corresponds to that of Figures 1 and 2, but two light barriers are provided on both sides of the center line. An electronic device 23 and 31 is assigned to each of these light barriers 20 and 30. The outputs of this device are fed to a display device 32 which actuates signal lamps 33 and 34.
FIG. 5 now shows a different arrangement, which is particularly advantageous. Two light barriers 50 and 51 are provided here, the light paths 52 and 53 of which intersect. Reflectors 54 and 55 are provided opposite the light barriers. The rays 52 and 53 run parallel to the surface of the sphere, at a distance from this surface which corresponds approximately to the radius of the sphere. The intersection 56 of the two light paths lies exactly in the center line M of the ball running surface. If the ball 12 now moves from the position shown with excellent lines into the position shown with dashed lines, then it first interrupts the light beam 52 and then the light beam 53. Between the two interruptions there is a time period t which is all the more given the ball speed is greater the further the orbit of the ball is from the center line. If you now want to define a certain distance from the center line, this distance corresponds to a time period t that can be calculated exactly or determined by experiment. This time period is now stored in the display device 57, which emits a signal only if this time period lies within a predetermined limit. There must be a small tolerance because the ball speeds are not exactly the same and because a narrow width can also be provided for the alley. If the ball speed is measured, it can be taken into account by calculation. The circuit of this display device 57 must also be designed so that it can detect whether the light path 52 or 53 is interrupted first. This is a sign of whether the orbit of the ball is on the right or left of the center line. A look at FIG. 5 reveals these relationships immediately.
In the arrangement according to FIG. 5, one could basically do without the reflectors and use photo receivers instead of the reflectors. This would have the advantage that a slightly sharper focusing of the light rays can be obtained.
Regeln für ein Kegelspiel können beispielsweise folgendermassen lauten: Some examples of the operation of such a system are now given below. Rules for skittles can be, for example, as follows:
Linke Gasse: Left lane:
Es dürfen die Kegel 3 und 6 lt. Fig. 1 nicht durch direkte Kugeleinwirkung fallen. The cones 3 and 6 according to Fig. 1 must not fall due to direct ball impact.
Rechte Gasse: Right lane:
Es dürfen die Kegel 2 und 4 lt. Fig. 1 nicht durch direkte Kugeleinwirkung fallen. The cones 2 and 4 according to Fig. 1 must not fall due to direct ball impact.
Compliance with this rule can, for example, be monitored, displayed and, if desired, registered with the embodiment according to FIGS. 3 and 4. It can thus be determined whether the bowler has complied with the predetermined alley according to the rules above and if not, the throw is considered invalid.
The following scheme can also be used when using a single light barrier according to FIGS. 1 and 2:
Rechte Gasse: Right lane:
Lichtschranke nicht unterbrochen, aber K 1 fallt Lichtschranke nicht unterbrochen, Photo eye not interrupted, but K 1 falls Photo eye not interrupted,
aber K 3 und/oder K 6 fällt Lichtschranke nicht unterbrochen, but K 3 and / or K 6 the light barrier is not interrupted,
aber jede Kombination K 1/K 3/K 6 fällt Linke Gasse: but every combination K 1 / K 3 / K 6 falls Left Lane:
Lichtschranke unterbrochen und K 1 und/oder K 2 fallt Lichtschranke nicht unterbrochen, Light barrier interrupted and K 1 and / or K 2 does not fall.
aber K 2 und/oder K 4 fällt Lichtschranke nicht unterbrochen, but K 2 and / or K 4 light barrier is not interrupted,
aber K 1, jedoch .nicht K 3 und K 6 fallt. but K 1, but not K 3 and K 6 falls.
Mit der Anordnung gemäss Fig. 5 können, wobei die Lichtbahnen parallel zu den vorderen Kegelreihen verlaufen, folgende Bedingungen überwacht und angezeigt werden: 5, the light conditions running parallel to the front rows of cones, the following conditions can be monitored and displayed:
