REVENDICATIONS

CLAIMS
1. Device for indicating the distance of a vehicle relative to an obstacle, characterized in that it comprises two infrared emission diodes (4) supplied by a frequency generator intended to be mounted spaced apart from one other at the rear or at the front of the vehicle, and oriented so that the infrared rays converge on a point located at a determined distance from the diodes, and a receiving photodiode (6) disposed between the infrared diodes (4) and connected, through a concordance detector (8), to a visible or audible indicator (10) intended to be mounted inside the vehicle,
the whole so that the witness reacts to a signal resulting from the reflection of the infrared rays by an obstacle (5) towards the receiving photodiode (6) when the point of convergence of the infrared rays reaches the obstacle (5).
2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the indicator (10) is an indicator light.
3. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the indicator (10) is a buzzer.
The invention relates to a device for indicating the distance of a vehicle relative to an obstacle, in particular the distance from the rear of a car during parking maneuvers.
We know that the height of the bumpers of motor vehicles is not constant and that, among other things, the rear bumper of a pick-up truck is generally at the height of the headlights of passenger cars. It is therefore not possible to park such a van in front of a passenger car, in reverse, counting to stop, during the maneuver, against the front bumper of the latter.
The device according to the invention, which makes it possible to remedy this drawback, is characterized in that it comprises two infrared emission diodes supplied by a frequency generator, intended to be mounted spaced apart from each other at l the rear or the front of the vehicle and oriented so that the infrared rays converge on a point located at a determined distance from the diodes, and a receiving photodiode placed between the infrared diodes and connected, through a concordance detector, to a visible or audible indicator intended to be mounted inside the vehicle, the whole so that the indicator reacts to a signal resulting from the reflection of infrared rays by an obstacle in the direction of the receiving photodiode when the point of convergence infrared rays reach the obstacle.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
The only figure in this drawing represents the electrical diagram of a device according to the invention.
This electrical diagram includes a voltage regulator 1 connected to a frequency generator 2 making it possible to obtain trains of rectangular pulses 3 and supplying, on the one hand, infrared emission diodes 4 and, on the other hand, a concordance detector 8. The infrared rays emitted by the diodes 4 are channeled through lenses 11 so as to converge in the axis of a receiving photodiode 6 at a determined distance from the diodes 4 of the order of 30 cm by example. In the case where the emitting diodes 4 are mounted at the rear of a vehicle, on either side of the receiving photodiode 6, the converging infrared rays are reflected on the latter when the point of convergence of the latter reaches an obstacle 5, in this case the body of a vehicle in front of which an attempt is made to park in reverse.
The reception photodiode 6 connected to an amplifier 7, itself connected to the concordance detector 8, then emits a signal causing a witness 10 to react by means of an electronic relay 9. According to the characteristics of the witness 10, the reaction may be visible or audible.
When the device is mounted at the rear of the vehicle, it can be powered by the reversing light supply wire and is only energized when reversing.
However, it can also be mounted at the front of the vehicle and, in this case, it would be connected to the vehicle's accumulator, preferably through a switch.
If the device includes a warning light as a warning light, this should preferably be mounted on the vehicle dashboard. However, an audible witness, such as a buzzer, could be placed anywhere in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
Many other variants of the device could also be envisaged. The light or audible indicator 10 could be replaced, for example, by a graduated indicator of the distance from the obstacle.
