The invention relates to a gas turbine arrangement
tion according to the preamble of independent claim 1 and further a method for operating the arrangement.
Gas turbine arrangements with a gas turbine serving as a load drive, which is driven by gases generated in a fluidized bed combustion chamber, the combustion being carried out with pulverized fuel, are known, for example, from US Pat. Nos. 3,791,137, 3,924,402 and 4,028,883. Operational control is very difficult with such gas turbine assemblies. The difficulties of controlling in arrangements of commercial size are mainly due to the large volume of heated compressed air and the large amount of fuel in the fluid bed combustion chamber and in arrangements in which the fuel is burned together with shredded dolomite, to the large number of tons of heated dolomite back, making the arrangement difficult to respond to changes in load.
When starting up such a gas turbine arrangement, this large volume and the large amount of material must first be brought into thermodynamic equilibrium relatively slowly before a load (e.g. an electric generator) can be effectively driven. For example, it can take 3 to 4 hours for the fluid bed combustion chamber to be brought into the appropriate operating state.
If, in contrast to the expander of a gas turbine engine, a special gas turbine is used to drive an electric generator, a sudden greater reduction in the electric generator load can lead to excessive speed and damage to this load turbine, since the operation of the gas turbine engine and the fluidized bed combustion chamber is not so can be changed quickly to accommodate changes in speed and / or load requirements on the load turbine.
The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a control system in a gas turbine engine with a fluidized bed combustion chamber and a gas turbine for driving a load, which control system can respond quickly to changes in speed and / or load requirements effective on the turbine without the thermodynamic operation the fluidized bed combustion chamber and the gas turbine engine. The valves used in the control system should not be exposed to very high temperatures, so that no special valves are required. In addition, the invention provides an operating method that eliminates the need for separate start-up and primary air compressors.
The essential features of the gas turbine arrangement result from the characterization of patent claim 1.
The operating method according to the invention is defined in the characterizing part of patent claim 8.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, in which an exemplary embodiment of the gas turbine arrangement is shown schematically.
In the drawing, reference numeral 10 denotes a gas turbine engine with a fluid bed combustion chamber and a control system associated therewith.
A power bed combustion chamber 12 belongs to the engine 10 and to the control system and is operated via a supply device, e.g. Lines 14 and 16 with a source of powdered solid fuel 18 and sulfur dioxide absorbing material 20, e.g. Coal or crushed dolomite is connected. The combustion gases, which are generated by combustion of the fuel in the combustion chamber 12, are from this via a pipeline 22 to separators 24 and 26, e.g. Cyclone separators for two-stage separation and via a conduit 28 to the expander 30 of a gas turbine engine 32. The combustion chamber 12 is provided with an air cooling system for controlling the reaction temperature in the fluidized bed 34 to a range between approximately 700 and 925 ° C.
The air cooling system has a heat exchanger 36 of a suitable type in the fluid bed 34, which is connected to an air compressor 42 via pipes 38 and 40 for receiving compressed air. The heat exchanger 36 is also connected to a pipe 28 via an outlet pipe 44 in such a way that heated compressed air is mixed with the cleaned combustion gases from the combustion chamber 12 flowing through the pipe 28.
The combustion chamber 12 is connected to the compressor 42 via a pipeline 38 in order to receive a portion of the compressed air discharged from it. This compressed air introduced into the combustion chamber 12 is supplied by suitable distribution means, e.g. a distributor screen plate 46 is distributed in the fluidized bed 34. The compressed air serves to maintain the fuel and other particulate matter, e.g. Dolomite, in a suspended eddy current state and for oxygen supply to support the combustion of the fuel.
The air compressor 42 is driven by the expander 30 of the gas turbine engine 32 and can be part of the gas turbine system or as a separate unit, driven by the expander 30. The start-up combustion chamber 48 can also be provided as an integral part or separately from the gas turbine system. The start-up combustion chamber 48 receives compressed air from the compressor 42 via a connection line 50 and fuel from a suitable source for generating fuel gases, which are mixed with the gas in line 28 via a discharge line 52. Compressed air flows, controlled by a valve 51, through line 52, the combustion gas from start-up combustion chamber 48 is used alone or together with the combustion gas from line 28 and heated compressed air to drive expander 30.
The exhaust gas from the expander 30 is fed to a gas turbine 56 via a passage or a conduit 54.
This gas turbine 56 drives a load, e.g. an electrical generator 58. The exhaust gas from the gas turbine 56 is fed via an exhaust pipe 60 to a steam and energy generation system 61.
The steam and energy generation system 61 has an exhaust gas boiler 62, which receives exhaust gas from the turbine 56 and heats and evaporates the water from the feed line 64 by indirect heat exchange. A steam turbine 66, which is fed via an outlet line 70, drives an electric generator 68. The outflowing steam from the steam turbine 66 is guided to a steam condenser 72, from which the condensed water is returned to the exhaust gas boiler 62 via a pipeline 74, a feed water heater 76 and a feed line 64.
To control the arrangement, some valve-controlled bypass pipes or lines are provided, which put the engine system into operation and enable the power turbine 56 to be quickly adapted to changes in the load requirement on the electrical generator 58, and this turbine 56 against overspeed when the load request to the electrical generator 58 suddenly drops protect.
The control system has in particular a bypass line 78 which connects the line 40, which transmits the compressed air to the heat exchanger 36, to the outlet line 44, in order thereby to create a bypass to the heat exchanger 36. A valve 80 is arranged in this bypass line 78 and controls the flow through this line, while a valve 82 which is arranged in line 40 controls the compressed air flow to the heat exchanger 36. The valves 80 and 82 are adjustable such that they can completely bypass the compressed air past the heat exchanger 36, as is necessary during part of the tempering period, or to control the flow to the heat exchanger 36 so that the temperature of the fluidized bed 34 is within the desired one Temperature range between 700 and 925 C is maintained during operation.
The valves 80 and 82 also serve together to control the flow velocity of the fluidized air flow in the fluidized bed 34 to a constant actual value. This last-mentioned function is fulfilled in that the air flow velocity in the line 40 downstream of the valve 82. is measured at 35th and this measurement value is related to the air velocity in the fluid bed. by measuring the temperature and pressure in the fluid bed as a function of speed.
A second bypass line 84 in the cooling air system serves to redirect the compressed air which is discharged from the air compressor 42 into the pipeline 38. A suitable heating device 86 is arranged in the bypass line 84 and heats the compressed air before it is fed to the fluidized bed combustion chamber 12. The heating device 86 can be of any type for heating compressed air and can be designed, for example, as a fuel combustion device. To control the flow of compressed air through the bypass line 84 and line 38, valves 88 and 90 are provided in the associated lines 84 and 38, respectively.
Another bypass line 92 is connected at one end to the exhaust line 54 of the expander 30 and at the opposite end to the exhaust line 60 and forms a bypass for the exhaust gases from the expander 30 around the turbine 56. A valve 94 which, depending on a by a speed switch or another suitable load measuring device 96 is arranged to control the flow in the bypass line 92. When operating under substantially constant load on the turbine 56, the valve 94 is in the closed position. In contrast, when the engine system 10 starts up, the valve 94 is completely open. The valve 94 also serves to adapt the torque developed by the turbine 96 to substantial changes in the load requirements on the generator 58.
In the event of a sudden drop in load, the valve 94 opens to substantially bring the pressure drop across the turbine 56 to zero, thereby preventing the turbine 56 from over rotating and being damaged. This bypass 92 and the valve 94 result in rapid and precise control of the turbine output power without disturbing the thermodynamic equilibrium of the fluidized bed combustion chamber 12. To further protect the turbine 56, a valve 98 is preferably installed in the line 54.
Valve 98 is normally open and is used to shut off gas flow to turbine 56 when there is a sudden drop in load. This sudden loss of load requirement can occur when an electrical fault in the generator 58, a circuit break or a clutch break between the turbine 56 and the generator 58 occurs.
This valve device 98 can take any suitable form; for example, a group of non-curved blades or fins in the inlet ring of the turbine 56 which, in a normally open position, are aligned with the direction of the gas flow and are rotated by a suitable lever system and ring arrangement to such an extent that they have a substantially perpendicular orientation with respect to the Maintain the direction of the gas flow and assume a completely closed position; a group of iris or guillotine plates can be arranged and actuated to form a ring valve; or in newer power turbine designs, the stator blades of the first stage can be made rotatable and rotated into a closed position around the
Block gas supply.
It is desirable that the valve device 98 be provided in the control system and cooperate with the valve 94 in the bypass line 92, because it has been found that in some situations it is not possible to divert enough gas through line 92 to power the free flight turbine 56 reset and to avoid over-revving the free-flight turbine. Similar to valve 94, valve device 98 is connected in such a way that it responds to load measuring device 96 and closes when valve 94 opens. In a closed position and in connection with the closed valve 94, the valve device 98 also causes the back pressure or dynamic pressure on the gas turbine engine 32 to be maintained and thereby prevents its overspeed.
Start
For the start-up of the engine, the valves 80, 82, 88, 90 and 98 are first closed and the valves 51 and 94 are opened. In this position of the valves mentioned, the compressed air flow to the combustion chamber 12 is interrupted and the bypass line 92 is opened, so that exhaust gas from the expander 30 cannot flow into the turbine 56. With the valve 51 open, a suitable starter drive 100, e.g. an internal combustion engine actuates and drives the air compressor 42. All of the compressed air generated by the air compressor 42 flows through the passage 50 into the start-up combustion chamber 48, where fuel is injected and ignited to generate combustion gas. This combustion gas is passed through passage 52 to line 28 and from there to expander 30 to drive it.
A check valve 102 or other shutoff device in line 28 prevents combustion gas from flowing toward the fluid bed combustor 12. The exhaust gas from the expander 30 is directed to the steam and energy generation system 61 via the line 54, the bypass line 92 and the exhaust line 60. A check valve 104 prevents backflow of exhaust gas into the exhaust line 60. As soon as the expander 30 is driven, the starter device 100 is switched off and the combustion device 48 is actuated in such a way that the gas turbine engine is heated. When the gas turbine engine 32 has stabilized operationally, the valve 88 in the bypass line 84 is opened and passes compressed air to the heater 86, a portion of the compressed air assisting the combustion of the fuel.
The mixture of combustion gas and heated compressed air flows via line 38 into the combustion chamber 12. After the heated compressed air and the combustion gas in the combustion chamber 12 are sufficient in volume and pressure to keep the fuel and the particulate material in the fluidized state, fuel and particulate material become introduced into the fluidized bed combustion device 12 via the lines 14 and 16. The mixture of hot combustion gases and compressed air also provides the heat and oxygen to ignite the fuel in the fluidized bed 34. When the fluidized bed temperature has reached a value between about 750 C and 800 C, measured by a temperature measuring and signaling device 106, the valve 82 increasingly open and allows compressed air to flow into the heat exchanger 36 via the line 40.
By gradually increasing the compressed air flow in and through the heat exchanger 36, excessive heat shock to the heat exchanger is prevented when the relatively cold compressed air begins to flow through the heat exchanger. When the fluidized bed 34 has reached a temperature within the range between about 870 C and about 925 C, the valve 80 opens so that the amount of compressed air flowing through the heat exchanger 36 to maintain the fluidized bed 34 at the desired temperature in the range of about 870 C and about 925 C can be controlled, the flow through the heat exchanger and the bypass line 78 being varied.
The valves 80 and 82 cooperate in such a way that when one valve is moved into a closed position, the other valve is moved into an open position, as a result of which the air flow is divided so that the fluidized bed temperature is kept in the temperature range mentioned. These valves also work together to maintain a constant vortex air velocity. The gas generated in the fluidized bed 34 is passed via lines 22 and 28 into the expander 30 of the gas turbine engine 32. At this time, the exhaust gas from the expander 30 bypasses the turbine 56 via the bypass line 92. When the fluidized bed 34 has reached a temperature in the range from about 750 to about 800 ° C. and the gas turbine 32 has reached the synchronized free-running point, the valve 88 is closed and the Fuel supply to heater 86 is interrupted.
The valve 90 is opened substantially simultaneously with the closing of the valve 88, so that the compressed air flow now reaches the combustion chamber 12 in which the fluidized bed has reached its thermodynamic equilibrium. At this point, the bypass valve 94 is closed and the valve 98 is opened to direct the exhaust gas from the expander 30 into the turbine 56 and thereby drive the latter. Also at this time, the valve 51 is closed and the fuel supply to the start-up combustion chamber 48 is interrupted, so that the expander 30 is only driven by a mixture of combustion gas and heated compressed air, which is supplied to the expander via the lines 28 and 44.
The engine system 10 is now in operation when the generator 58 is fully loaded, and the valves 94 and 98 change the flow through the line 54 and the bypass line 92 to compensate for fluctuations in the load, opening or closing in the event of a sudden load drop to prevent an overspeed on the turbine 56 and on the expander 30.
According to the above explanations, the gas turbine arrangement described contains a control system for a gas turbine engine with a fluid bed combustion chamber, which improves and simplifies starting or starting operation, the adaptation to changes in the load requirement without disturbing the thermodynamic balance of the fluid bed combustion chamber and protection of the load turbine against Overspeed caused in the event of a sudden and considerable drop in the load requirement. The valves of the control system control the gas flows at locations where the gases are at relatively low temperatures, so that the valves do not require any particular structural effort.
