Description
The invention relates to a method for producing a composite body and a composite grid plate produced by the method.
The invention can be used for the production of composite bodies for various fields of application; A particularly suitable application is the production of grid plates for accumulators or collectors.
The usual lead / acid accumulators have a number of alternating positive and negative collector plates, which are assembled to form collector elements with interposed, non-conductive separators. The collector elements are mounted in one or more individual cells of a collector housing and are electrically connected together in a manner known per se. Typically, each positive and negative plate has a supporting, conductive grid construction, which is usually made of lead or a lead alloy and carries an electrochemically active paste. The lead grids serve the dual purpose of absorbing the paste material and taking on the function of electrical 55 conductors.
For years, the accumulator manufacturing industry has been trying to reduce the amount of lead used in collectors or accumulators. This would not only reduce the weight of the collector, it could also save material costs. Gathering grids represent an advantageous area for possible material savings because the lead grids that have been customary up to now contain considerably more material than is necessary for the task of collecting and conducting electrical current. However, the reduction in the amount of mesh material has so far been limited because the meshes also serve as physical carriers for the paste material and because of restrictions on the handling of the paste plates

A particularly favorable way of reducing the amount of lead in collector grids is to combine less expensive, light materials, such as plastics, with lead. Plastics are a particularly advantageous type of material because there are numerous types of plastic available which are comparatively insoluble in acid, have a low weight, but are strong enough to act as a load-bearing lattice structure and enable cost reductions compared to lead. For this reason, attempts have been made repeatedly to produce composite plastic / lead collector grids. Efforts to date in this regard have focused on two basic options, the first of which is to make the supporting header grids only from plastic. For example, US Pat. No. 3,813,300 shows a plastic grid in which the active paste material conducts the electrical current to a separately shaped and attached (on the grid) conductive current collector. Likewise, US Pat. Nos. 3,516,863 and 3,516,864 and GB Pat. No. 1,240,672 show plastic grids to which connecting lugs are mechanically attached. The plastic grid can be coated with a conductive material. Finally, US Pat. Nos. 3,901,960 and 3,607,412 show collector grids which have been produced by inserting a separately produced, conductive connection lug into a mold and molding a synthetic resin lattice on this lug.
These previously usual methods have various disadvantages, since they all require separate handling of the conductive connecting lugs and the plastic grid. In the first-mentioned U.S. patent, the active material has a low efficiency as a conductor and collector, and the loss of active material around the terminal tab can render the board unusable. In principle, the savings in material costs and the reduction in weight are outweighed in all cases by increased manufacturing costs compared to the casting of lead grids that was customary to date.
The second way of producing composite grids is to combine lead and plastic to form a load-bearing grid construction. US Pat. No. 3,690,950 shows a composite grid in which lead wires are heated and fused with a plastic grid. AU patent specification 269 245 discloses the molding or casting of plastic around preformed lead wires, while GB patent specification 1 007 497 describes the mechanical assembly of lead and plastic parts to produce a collector grid.
Although the second-mentioned possibility ensures an improved current-carrying capacity due to the use of lead wires, all these previous attempts in turn require separate handling of the lead and plastic parts during assembly. None of these techniques allows the formation of a composite grid at a single manufacturing station with a minimum of handling until the completion of the manufacturing.
The object of the invention is to design a method for producing a composite body so that the composite body, for. B. a composite grid plate, easy to manufacture by mass production.
This object is achieved by the measures and features characterized in the independent claim 1.
Es zeigen: The invention is explained below with reference to the drawing using the example of the production of a collector grid plate. Show it:

The embodiment of a collector * or accumulator grid plate 110 shown in FIG. 1 is a composite body which can be produced with only two molded parts according to FIGS. 2 to 5. 1, 4 and 5, this grid plate 110 has a shaped or cast support grid 112, to which a fan-like conductor element 114 is attached. The support grid 112 comprises edge sides 115 as well as an upper part 25 116 and a lower part 117, which together define an essentially rectangular outline. Within the sides 115 and the parts 116 and 117 there are numerous interconnected, spaced-apart trains (runners) 120. The fan-like conductor element 30 114 with a connecting lug 122, from which a number of divergent, conductive cables 124 originate, lies on the supporting grid 112 , in each of which at least one essentially disk-shaped section 125 is formed, which is provided with a central bore 126. The disk-shaped sections 125 are located at the points where the shaped cables 120 intersect or overlap the conductor cables 124, and they are (mechanically) interlocked with the support grid 112 at these points by casting material passing through the cables 120 the holes 126 extends to form substantially circular-40-shaped holding heads 128. In a preferred embodiment, the conductor element or conductive grid 114 consists of lead or a lead alloy, while the shaped support grid 112 consists of a suitable acid-resistant, moldable plastic, such as polypropylene, polyethylene, polycarbonate, 45 polystyrene or filled varieties of these substances. 2, the first molded part 130 has a flat upper side 131. In this case, a first molded cavity 135 corresponding to the shape of the conductor element 114 is formed with a section 136 corresponding to the connecting lug 122 and divergent finger parts 137, which the conductor tracks 124 with the disk-shaped ones Form sections 125.
According to FIGS. 2 to 5, the first molded part 130 has a number of first retractable pins 140 which can be moved vertically to the flat upper side 131. The pins 140 are arranged at specific connection points (interfaces) between the conductor or lead cables 124 and the plastic grid cables 120 and thus at selected locations at which sections of a mold cavity 152 defining the non-conductive support 60 grid 110 are the grooves 137 for the lead cables to cut. The end sections of these pins 140 are each provided with an essentially truncated cone-shaped, protruding section 141, the diameter of which is smaller than that of the pin 140. The substantially flat end surface 143 of the truncated cone section 141 lies in the plane 131 when the pin 140 is advanced or extended, and when the pin 140 in question is pulled back into one in FIG. 4

3 and 4, a second molded part 145 has an essentially flat upper side 146, in which a molded cavity 147 is formed, which essentially defines one half of the connecting lug part 122 of the conductor grid 114. In addition, the second molded part 145 is provided with a second molded cavity 152 in the form of the plastic support grid 112. The mold cavity 147 and the second mold cavity 152 are separated from one another, so that the lead injected into the mold cavity 147 cannot enter the second mold cavity 152. The second molded part 145 is also provided with a second type of retractable pins 148 which can be moved perpendicularly to the planar upper side 146 and which are located at the desired or intended connection points, namely where the sections 152 defining the supporting grid extend over the lead-pull grooves 137 and opposite the pins 140, as well as at all other points at which the support grid shaped sections 152 run over or intersect the lead-groove grooves 137. The pins 148 each have an essentially flat end face or end face 149, which lies in the advanced position of the relevant pin in the plane 146 and can be displaced by retracting this pin 148 into the position indicated in FIG. 4 by the dash-dotted lines 150 .
4 and 5 each show a partial cross section through a section of the molded parts 130 and 145 for producing a grid plate 110 according to this embodiment of the invention. 4, the two molded parts 130 and 145 are first closed against one another, the retractable pins 140 and 148 being in their advanced positions. In these positions, both types of pins 140 and 148 are within the first mold pattern 135, the pins 148 preventing lead from entering the second mold pattern 152. Lead is then injected under pressure or filled into the mold spaces by falling feed in order to form the connecting lug part 122 and the lead trains 124 with disk sections 125 provided with the bores 126. The lead injection point and the sprue can be provided using conventional technology.
5, the pins 140 and 148 are withdrawn after the lead portion has been poured in and allowed to solidify. This creates cavities 126 which are connected to both the first and the second shape patterns 135 and 152; furthermore, the separation between the two patterns 135, 152 is canceled by the retraction of the pins 148, so that plastic can flow into the cavities 126. The plastic is then injected to form the supporting grid parts, including the lower part 117 and the cables 120. In addition, the plastic passes through the bores 126 provided in the lead disk sections 125, so that the disk-like heads 128 block. Corresponding, conventional injection points and gates can in turn be provided here. After the plastic has solidified, the molded parts 130 and 145 can be separated from one another so that the grid plate 110 can be ejected in the usual way.
Although the invention has been described above in connection with the manufacture of a composite grid plate for a lead / acid collector or accumulator, numerous other fields of application of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art. For example, the invention is equally applicable to the production of composite grids for other types of batteries or collectors, for example for alkali collectors. Furthermore, the theory of the invention can also be applied to the production of other production objects in which two materials are to be combined with one another at a single casting station. Preferably, the material to be injected first has a comparatively higher melting point, and then the second material is injected with a lower melting point; however, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that this limitation is not necessarily applicable. Two metals, a metal and a plastic, two plastics or other moldable or castable materials can be used as materials. Obviously, temperatures and pressures of the injected materials can be varied depending on the type of material and shape of the object to be cast. In addition, the time required for the materials to solidify in the molds varies depending on the external environmental conditions, artificial cooling provided or not provided in the mold, and the shape and design of the mold cavity and the molds themselves.
For example, the retractable pins 140 may each be replaced by movable pins which, when the plastic is injected into the mold, shift from the first, retracted position to the second, advanced position to at least partially remove the shaped disc-like portions 125 from those Fingers 35 form portions 137 and push them into the second mold cavity 152. In this way, cavities are formed around the outer sides of the disk-like sections 125, into which the plastic flows and can capture or cover the conductor elements 114 along the outer surfaces of the fingers 40 124. The retractable pins 140 could also be replaced by similar pins which, in their first, advanced position, bear against the outer wall of the conductor tracks 124 and in their second, retracted position form cavities on these walls, 45 so that the plastic flows into these cavities and the Can enclose conductor elements 114 along the outer surfaces of the conductor tracks 124.
Likewise, the two pins 140 and 148 can be replaced by a single retractable pin or spigot, which has a narrow and a wide section, the narrow section of which extends into a lead groove 137 while the wide section extends in the first , advanced position of this pin is in the second mold cavity 152 and prevents the entry of lead into this mold cavity 152, while the pin is retractable into the molded part 145, so that 135 cavities are created in the first mold cavity, into which the plastic is enclosed of the conductor element 114 can flow.
