Description
The invention relates to a device for filtering gaseous media containing radioactive substances by means of filter material made of pourable or free-flowing sorption substance, for example activated carbon, the filter material forming a moving bed through which the gaseous medium flows essentially horizontally, which bed has a filling and an emptying opening for the filter material provided chamber is housed and can be conveyed substantially vertically by gravity from the upper part into the lower part of the chamber.
Devices of this type are used to retain pollutants, for example a gas or air stream, as completely as possible in the sorption substance. Activated carbon, which can be impregnated, has proven particularly useful for filtering gas or air streams that contain radioactive substances. For this purpose, the activated carbon is introduced into the filter chamber via a filler neck to form a filter bed and, after a certain idle time, is discharged via an emptying nozzle in order to be replaced by new activated carbon.
Since filter devices, particularly in areas where radioactive substances are handled, must guarantee a maximum degree of separation, this is done
Change of the entire filter material already with a relatively low partial load, which means that the actual capacity of the filter material cannot be used. For safety reasons, the known devices are therefore very uneconomical and accept poor utilization of the expensive filter material.
The invention has for its object to provide a device for filtering gaseous media, with which the capacity of the filter material can be better used compared to known devices, without causing an impairment of safety.
On the basis of the device for filtering gaseous media described at the outset, it is proposed according to the invention to achieve the object that at least one essentially horizontally arranged partition is provided between the upper part of the chamber and the lower part of the chamber.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the partition is designed as a slide or flap and thereby enables the filter material to be easily moved from the upper part of the chamber to the lower part of the chamber.
A further expedient embodiment of the invention provides for the partition wall to be provided with beads which increase strength or with at least one angled section which is parallel to its longitudinal extension. This design also enables a relatively thin partition to accommodate the filter material portion resting thereon without deformation.
Furthermore, an advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the partition wall has an actuating device which is coupled to an actuating device for a valve of the emptying opening of the chamber. This makes it possible to ensure that the partition can only be moved out of the closed position if the valve of the emptying opening has previously been closed.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the partition consists of two sheets arranged one above the other, which have slots and / or holes, and are displaceable in their plane relative to one another in such a way that the slots and / or holes of one sheet align with those of the other.
This design of the dividing wall prevents the trickling process within the filter bed from taking place in a funnel shape when the filter material is removed from the upper part of the chamber and the trickling speed in the central region of the filter bed being substantially higher than the trickling speed in the peripheral areas. Instead, the partition wall according to the invention ensures that the filter material can be shifted from the upper part of the chamber into the lower part of the chamber essentially in layers.
In order not to impede or irregularize the trickling process by slots or holes blocked with particles of the filter material, an expedient embodiment of the invention finally proposes that the slots and / or holes have a clear width which is larger than the maximum diameter of the particles of the filter material. The desired uniform displacement of the filter material from the upper part of the chamber into the lower part of the chamber is in no way impaired by appropriately large slots or holes.
An exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown schematically in the drawing and is described in more detail below:

Filterbetts dient. Filter bed serves. An inflow chamber 3 and an outflow chamber 4 are flanged tightly to the side of the chamber 1. A deflection chamber 5 is also flanged tightly on the side of the filter chamber 1 opposite the inflow and outflow chamber 3, 4. The chambers 3, 4 and 5 are connected to the interior of the filter chamber 1 by means of openings 6, 7, 8 and 9. The inflow chamber 3 with the associated openings 6 is located below the outflow chamber 4 with the associated openings 9, so that the raw air inlet is at the bottom and the clean air outlet is at the top of the filter chamber 1. The filter chamber 1, which is formed from a vertical sheet metal housing and is essentially closed on all sides, has a filler neck 10 on its upper side and an emptying neck 11 on its underside.
Activated carbon is preferably used as the filter material, which is poured into the filter chamber 1 via the filler neck 10 and, after a certain standing time, is discharged again by means of the emptying nozzle 11 and replaced by new filter material.
So that the utilization of the filter material is possible until its capacity is exhausted, the upper part 1 a of the chamber 1 is separated from the lower part 1 b of the chamber 1 by a wall 12, so that it can be prevented in a simple manner that sorption material 2 is removed the upper part of the chamber 1 together with sorbent material 2 is withdrawn from the lower part of the chamber 1 through the emptying nozzle 11.
The partition wall 12 consists of two sheets 13 and 14 arranged one above the other, which have slots 15. The sheets 13 and 14 can be moved relative to one another in their plane in such a way that the slots 15 of both sheets 13 and 14 can overlap and filter material 2 trickles from the upper part of the chamber 1 into the lower part of the 15 chamber 1. In this way, the partition 12 according to the invention prevents that when the filter material 2 is removed, the trickling process within the filter bed takes place in a funnel shape and the trickling speed in the central region of the filter bed is significantly higher than the trickling speed in the peripheral areas.
