The present invention relates to a device for protecting the transistors of a power supply circuit of an asynchronous polyphase electric machine comprising a static frequency converter supplied by a direct current source and comprising a pair of transistors assigned to each phase for generate a quasi sinusoidal alternating current in the winding of the machine.
Such supply devices are described for example in Swiss patents 394,364 and 464,344. FIG. 1 schematically represents one of the pairs of switching elements. The converter comprises three of these pairs of elements which are respectively connected to the R, S and T phases of a three-phase asynchronous motor.
The use of resistance circuits, capacitors and diodes, called
RCD, in order to reduce losses when blocking a transistor is well known. Placed on the transistors of a static converter working at high voltage, such circuits can cause problems.
FIG. 1 represents a part of an inverter bridge whose transistors are protected by RCD circuits.
When the transistor T1 is conductive, the capacitor C1 is discharged, and the capacitor C4 is charged at a voltage 2 U.
If the presence of the resistor R4 limits the discharge current of the capacitor C4 through the transistor T4 when the latter is turned on, there is no protection when accidentally it is crossed by the current charging the capacitor Cl and passing through the diode Dl and transistor T4.
When the operating conditions are normal, that is to say, when the charging current is sufficiently large and inductive, such a danger is not to be feared since the capacitors have complete and defined charges and discharges.
On the other hand, the cases of idling, too resistive load or cable break, constitute dangers of current overload through the transistors.
The object of the present invention is to propose a device for limiting the current through the transistors to a predetermined value, whatever the load conditions of the inverter bridge, characterized in that it comprises two inductor coils, one being connected by a terminal to the emitter of one of the transistors of at least one pair and the other being connected by a terminal to the collector of the other transistor of this pair.
Figures 2 to 5 of the accompanying drawing show by way of example embodiments of the invention.
FIG. 2 represents an embodiment according to claim 2.
FIG. 3 represents an evolution of the current and the voltage of the choke coils of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 represents an embodiment according to claim 3.
FIG. 5 represents an embodiment according to claim 4.
FIG. 2 represents the same part of the inverter bridge represented in FIG. 1, in which the same elements are found but with the addition of the inductors L1, L4 inductively coupled, the output of the charging current taking place at the midpoint Lm . L will be called the choke obtained by the inductive coupling of chokes L1 and L4.
First assume normal operating conditions. The capacitor C1 being discharged, the capacitor C4 being charged to the value 2U, a current Ic passes through the transistor T1 and the choke Ll. When transistor T1 is blocked, current flows through capacitor C1, diode D1 and choke L1. The voltage on the capacitor Cl increases while the capacitor C4 discharges through the resistor R. When the voltage on the capacitor C reaches 2U, the current is taken up by the diode Drl.
Under abnormal conditions, such as no-load operation, let's examine what happens when the transistor T4 is turned on and the capacitor C1 is discharged. A current is established through the capacitor C1, the inductors Ll, L4 and the transistor T4, the voltage 2U appears, instantaneously at the terminals of the inductor then will decrease sinusoidally to vanish after a time At, the current reaching its value maximum at time tl (see fig. 3).
The voltage UL on the inductor cannot be reversed as a result of the conduction of the diode Drl. Current flows in the circuit comprising the chokes L1, L4 and the diode Drl. When the transistor T4 is blocked, the current remaining in the self L passes through the diode
D4 and charges the capacitor C4 at time t2.
When the voltage increases on the capacitor C4, the current passes through the resistance R allowing a rapid disappearance of the current in the inductor L. The current is canceled at time t3.
Figure 4 shows a first variant in which the chokes are no longer arranged between the two transitors of a branch but outside, that is to say connected by their second terminals respectively on one and the other DC terminal.
Figure 5 shows a second variant in which, instead of 3 x 2 chokes, 2 chokes are inserted in the positive and negative supply lines.
In the operation of the device in FIG. 4, the two capacitors Cl and C4 appear in parallel, it is therefore possible to replace them with a single capacitor of double capacity connected between one of the DC terminals and the connection point of each motor phase, as shown in figure 5.
The two inductor coils inductively coupled according to Figure 2 will be wound on the same core; they will consist of a single coil with center tap.
