Abstract

The device can orientate the chain of stitches cut from a piece of sewn fabric to a position in which the cut chain will be gripped and sewn with the initial stitches inside a seam formed in a successive piece of fabric. This enables sewing operations to be carried out with automatic sequences. The device comprises a chain cutter (18) which is provided with a compressed air duct (23) terminating in a nozzle (25). When the pressure foot of the sewing machine is raised, the cut chain (22) is disposed by a blast of air from the nozzle (25) in an area in which it is subjected to the action of a suction device (32) activated during the raising of the pressure foot. A gripping strip (29), which has also been raised, is lowered and holds the chain which has been sucked by the suction device (32). <IMAGE>
