Abstract

By using means which are simple and easy to fit, the device solves the problem of the locking in running condition, of a bolt (54) which is controlled by a lock (18) and which supports a lug (48), which, in the locking position, is designed to penetrate a recess (100) in the shaft (14) of a motor vehicle steering wheel. The means of clenching the bolt (54) comprise a spring latch (72) which can be displaced radially and is provided with at least one projection (78), which in the retracted position of the bolt (54), engages in a corresponding recess in the bolt. The latch (72) is provided with a control surface, which co-operates with a control cam (88) which slides axially. Axial displacement of the control cam (88) is controlled by a cam drum (28) which is attached to the mobile cylinder of the lock (18), which can rotate and be displaced axially by means of a spanner. <IMAGE>
