REVENDICATIONS

CLAIMS
1. Instrument for controlling the surface conditions of the ground, in particular roads, highways, airport runways, terraces, sidewalks, characterized in that it consists of a tube intended to be placed vertically on the ground, having a opening at its upper end and a lateral opening at its lower end, and by an optical system, housed in this tube, comprising an eyepiece mounted in the upper opening, an objective, and a total reflection prism located at the level of the lower opening, the whole so that by looking through the eyepiece one can inspect, with grazing vision, the ground to be inspected.
2. Instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that the tube is bent at its lower end.
3. Instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises a shoe.
4. Instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that it is provided with handles.
5. Instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that the eyepiece is mounted in an axial opening of the tube.
6. Instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that the eyepiece is mounted in a lateral opening of the tube.
Civil engineering companies, earthworks, masonry, reinforced concrete, etc., responsible for carrying out or maintaining structures such as roads, highways, airport runways, terraces, sidewalks, etc., do not yet have their responsibility. provision of the means enabling them to systematically, quickly and easily check the surface conditions of these structures with a view to eliminating any inequalities, for example the puddles which are responsible on roads and motorways for dangerous aquaplaning zones.
These surfaces are currently checked either visually by placing the eye at ground level, which makes it possible to distinguish the unevenness of the ground by a well-known optical effect, or with the aid of complicated and delicate devices.
In most cases these means are not suitable, the visual method is slow, imprecise and demanding, as for the known devices, they are precise but unwieldy and relatively expensive. The object of the present invention is an instrument the aim of which is to fill the gap which results from this state of affairs.
The accompanying drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
The single figure of this drawing is a sectional view through two vertical planes angularly offset by 90 "at the level of the cut-off indicated in phantom.
The instrument shown comprises a metal tube 10, bent at its lower end, provided with a shoe 11 allowing it to be pressed vertically on the ground, provided with two folding handles 12 to hold it in this position, and having an opening side 13 at its lower end. The instrument further comprises an optical system composed of an eyepiece 14 mounted in the upper opening of the tube, an objective 15 housed in the tube and a total reflection prism 16 located at the lower opening. 13. Dust covers 17, drawn in phantom, allow the openings of the instrument to be closed.
The objective 15 comprises several lenses forming in the focal plane of the eyepiece 14 an enlarged upright image of the surface of the ground seen under a grazing angle of incidence.
Looking at this image through the eyepiece 14, we find ourselves in optical conditions similar to those of a vision by the eye placed at ground level with the double advantage of seeing with a high magnification and of working standing in a comfortable position.
The invention is obviously not limited to the embodiment shown. In particular, the upper opening could be lateral and the light beam directed through this opening by a second total reflection prism.
The described instrument is light and handy, so it can be used and moved without fatigue. In addition, it is robust and not very delicate, which makes it possible to use it as a site instrument without risk of deterioration.
