Vorzugsweise sind A, und A. gleich.

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of vat dyes of the formula (1).
The vat dyes have the formula
EMI1.1
where R is alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R, and R2 is hydrogen or alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms and A, and A2 is a linkable radical with 3 to 6 fused rings.
In the vat dyes of the formula (1), R 1 and R 2 are preferably hydrogen. The groups Al and A2 which can be linked can be identical or different. Preferably A and A are the same.
As linkable radicals Al and A2, radicals of polycyclic quinoid compounds come into consideration, e.g. Anthrapyrimidines, anthrapyridones, anthrapyrimidones, azabenzanthrones, benzanthrones, anthanthrones, anthrimides, isothiazole anthrones, pyrazole anthrones, pyrimidanthrones, anthraquinone compounds derived from 9,10-dioxoanthracene, derived from 9,10-dioxoanthracene,,, oxoanthracycinic,, oxo-anthracylene, heterocyclic, oxo-anthracene, and, if appropriate, further ring-fused oxoanthracylacene, and, if necessary, further ring-fused oxoanthracylacene,, oxo-azo-anthracene, and hetero-oxocyclic anthronyls, such as oxo-azanthracylanthrolate, and, if appropriate, further ring-fused Pyrazolanthraquinones, pyrazinoanthraquinones, and preferably radicals of 3,4-phthaloylacridones bonded in the 2- or 8-position and radicals of anthraquinones bonded in the 1- or 2-position, it being possible for all of these radicals to carry the substituents customary for vat dyes.
Such substituents are, for example: halogen atoms, in particular chlorine, fluorine or bromine, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, aralkyl, aralkoxy, arylamino, alkylthio, arylthio, cyano and thiocyano groups. Here and in the following, alkyl means in particular radicals with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and aryl especially radicals such as phenyl, tolyl, chlorophenyl. Methoxyphenyl or naphthyl radicals and with aralkyl, in particular the benzyl radical. The acyl and acylamino groups are also particularly important substituents.
The term acyl primarily includes residues of aromatic carboxylic or sulfonic acids, in particular those of the benzene series or low molecular weight, i.e. Alkanoyl or alkylsulfonyl radicals containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, such as, for example: B. the acetyl, benzoyl. p-chlorobenzoyl, p-phenylbenzoyl, benzenesulfonyl or p-toluenesulfonyl radicals, furthermore low molecular weight alkoxycarbonyl radicals and sulfonic acid amide or carboxamide groups, the nitrogen atom of which can be substituted with alkyl or aryl radicals, e.g. the ethoxycarbonyl, aminocarbonyl or aminosulfonyl radical.
Vat dyes of the formula are therefore preferred
EMI1.2
in which Al and A are each a 3,4-phthaloylacridone radical bonded in the 2- or 8-position or an anthraquinone radical bonded in the 1- or 2-position, A and A2 can carry the substituents indicated above, and R those in the explanation of the formula (1) has given meaning.
Of particular importance among the vat dyes of the formula (2) are those of the formula
EMI1.3
wherein one of the two substituents R1 and R2 is hydrogen and the other substituent is benzoylamino.
The vat dyes of the formula (1) are prepared by adding an s-triazine of the formula
EMI1.4
wherein X is halogen, with connectable amines of the formulas
EMI1.5
condensed to give vat dyes of the formula (1), or that an s-triazine of the formula (4) in which one X is an amino group of the formula N (R,) H and the other X is an amino group of the formula - N (R2) H , condensed with linkable compounds of the formulas A1-Y (8) and A.-Z (9) in which Y and Z are halogen atoms to give vat dyes of the formula (1).
The reaction of the alkylthio-dihalo-s-triazine with the vettable amines of the formulas (5) and (6) can be carried out in one or two-stage reaction.
The alkylthio-dihalo-s-triazines to be used as starting materials are known. They can be obtained by reacting trihalo-s-triazines with an alkali sulfide and then reacting with an alkyl halide or by reacting trihalo-s-triazines with alkyl mercaptans or with a corresponding alkali mercaptide.
The diamino-alkylthio-s-triazines of the formula (4), in which one X is an amino group of the formula - N (R1) H and the other X is an amino group of the formula - N (R.,) H, are linked to the compounds of formulas (8) and (9) also condensed successively or simultaneously.
The diamino-alkylthio-s-triazines required as starting materials are obtained by condensation of trihalogen-s-triazines with ammonia or primary alkylamines to diamino-halogen-s-triazines and further reaction of these intermediate compounds with alkyl mercaptans with elimination of hydrogen chloride to give diamino-alkyl thio- s-triazines available.
If an alkylthio-dichloro-s-triazine of the formula is condensed by the production process described above

If you start from diaminoalkylthio-s-triazines of the formula (4) and connectable compounds of the formulas (8) and (9), the use of a CuJ-pyridine catalyst, as described in French Patent No. 1,603,058, is recommended , beneficial.
If the linkable amine of the formula (11) and / or (12) used as starting material contains a further free condensable amino group, or if the linkable compound of the formula (8) and / or (9) contains, in addition to the halogen atom Y or Z, a free condensable amino group Amino group or a further reactive halogen atom, this can be condensed with a second halogen-s-triazine or alkylthio-halogen-s-triazine or alkylthio-amino-s-triazine. If the second s-triazine does not already contain a bondable residue, this can also be subsequently condensed with a further linkable amine or with a further halogen-containing linkable compound. In this way, chain-like vat dyes with two or more than two s-triazine residues or more than two linkable residues can be produced.
Any halogen atoms still present in the s-triazine radicals of the vat dyes obtained in this way can likewise be subsequently replaced by alkylthio groups by reaction with alkyl mercaptans.
The products according to the invention are suitable for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials, in particular for dyeing and printing fibers made from natural or regenerated cellulose in the presence of reducing agents, such as e.g. Dithionite.
The dyeings obtained are distinguished by excellent levelness. The fastness properties are generally very good, especially the light, water, chlorine and soda boiling fastness properties. The new dyes reserve polyester fibers well or stain them tone on tone, which makes them suitable for dyeing mixed fibers mixed with disperse dyes.
Compared to the corresponding vat dyes. which instead of the alkylthio group contain an alkoxy group bonded to the s-triazine radical, the dyes of the present application are distinguished by better alkali resistance.
The new dyes can also be used as pigments. Thanks to their favorable properties, they can be used for a wide variety of pigment applications, e.g. in finely divided form for dyeing rayon and viscose or cellulose ethers or esters or superpolyamides or super-polyurethanes or polyesters in the spinning mass, as well as for the production of colored lacquers or lacquer formers, solutions or products made from acetyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, natural resins or synthetic resins such as polymerization resins or condensation resins, e.g. Aminoplasts, alkyd resins, phenoplasts, polyolefins, such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile, rubber, casein, silicone and silicone resins.
They can also be used advantageously in the production of colored pencils, cosmetic preparations or laminating plates.
