The present invention relates to a ski intended in particular for alpine skiing.
The general behavior of a ski, in particular the handling of turns on bumpy, hard or icy snow, results from a combination of various factors such as the sidecut, the distribution of flexural and torsional flexibility, and the vibratory characteristics. , these last two factors themselves depend on the materials used and the construction layout.
In modern skis, the working part consists of blades located on either side of the core. These blades are either made of light metal or of a fiber-resin composite material or else by a torsion box structure of these same materials to increase this torsional resistance. The core of the ski serves as a filling and may possibly, through its composition, improve the vibratory characteristics.
The aim of the present invention is to improve the torsional resistance and its distribution along the ski, while maintaining great flexibility in bending. The torsional resistance allows better grip in a turn while a great flexibility in flexion allows the ski to bend to a value close to the curvature of the turn, thereby reducing the skidding necessary for changing direction and the resulting braking. A better proportioned distribution of the resistance in torsion at the ends of the ski allows a smoother attack of the tips when turning on bumpy snow and reduces the transmission of shocks along the ski, thus improving the general behavior of the ski.
Another aim of the invention is to improve the vibratory characteristics. In a conventional ski, during bending of the ski, the neutral fiber separating the compressed zone from the stretched zone is located substantially in the middle of the profile. It is difficult to control the position of the vibration nodes and certain vibratory characteristics.
The ski according to the invention is characterized by an internal structure consisting of a corrugated blade, the folds of which are transverse to the axis of the ski, said blade being coated with expanded cellular material.
An embodiment of the invention has been shown schematically and by way of example in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 represents the wavy blade. This blade can be made from a shaped light metal strip or from a fiber-resin composite material. For the latter, a fabric of transverse unidirectional glass fibers, impregnated with epoxy resin or polyester, will preferably be used. By choosing the parameters of the wavy, thickness, wavelength, amplitude. the torsional resistance of the different zones of the ski can be adjusted.
Fig. 2 shows the core consisting of the blade coated with expanded cellular material, for example polyurethane or acrylic foam, as well as the upper and lower blades.
These two blades, working parts of the conventional ski, are retained but their main function is limited to adjusting the flexural strength. This structure allows skis to be made entirely of plastic or metalloplastic.
The ski according to the invention has the following advantages: when the ski flexes, the position of the neutral fiber is modified by the corrugation, the latter appearing fairly closely to this neutral fiber. On the other hand, it is possible to inject the expanded cellular material at different pressure on either side of the corrugated material. It is thus possible to introduce a prestressing to the assembly, as well as to place the vibration nodes more easily at the desired locations.
The advantage of this structure over the torsion box structure is that it can be manufactured in a large width and then cut to the desired dimensions, thus making it easier to obtain good homogeneity from one ski to another, also reducing costs. Manufacturing. Better use of materials is also another advantage of this invention. It is clear that the ski according to the invention is particularly suitable for downhill or downhill skiing, but that this structure in suitable dimensions also makes it possible to produce cross-country and jumping skis.
