EMI2.1
<tb> VEC <SEP> Or <SEP> ci > <SEP> konstant
<tb> Ic <SEP> O <SEP> VS/B <SEP> konstant <SEP> VJB <SEP> i <SEP> v/(a+z)
<tb> <SEP> P
<tb> iZ <SEP> O <SEP> konstant <SEP> 0 <SEP> / <SEP> Vs/d <SEP> // <SEP> VL/(R+Z) <SEP> konstant
<tb>
:
EMI2.2
<tb> IC <SEP> O <SEP> // <SEP> VS/ <SEP> // <SEP> VL/(R+Z)
<tb> <SEP> f <SEP> v <SEP> /(a) <SEP> konstant
<tb> Iz <SEP> 0 <SEP> konstant <SEP> O V5/R <SEP> )/ <SEP> VL/(R+Z) <SEP> konstant
<tb>

The invention relates to a circuit for applying a current receiver to a component of a control current lying between a threshold value and a limiting value. In particular, the invention relates to a circuit for applying to the receiving device of a teleprinter connection a portion of the control current from the transmission line to which the receiving device is connected which is between a threshold value and a limiting value.
As is known, the information is transmitted via a teleprinter connection in such a way that a power source is switched on and off at the transmitter end and a decision is made at the receiver end as to whether the line is live or not. The receiver-side circuit forwards the decision in the form of a logic signal with two possible states 0 or L for further processing to the receiver system. A line current of 8 mA +3 mA is assumed as the most favorable decision threshold, because then the receiver is largely insensitive to possible interference currents when the line is de-energized and to fluctuations in the current within the tolerances when the line is live.
In the course of the further development of transmission devices with teletype interface using the latest technological advances, it has become necessary to create a fully electronic replacement for the usual electromechanical receiving relays of the older teleprinters. Taking into account the teleprinter standards, the following requirements are made of the circuit to be created: - The transmission line and the receiver device should be completely galvanically separated; - The circuit should function equally with either 20, 40 or 60 mA control current from the transmission line without any change or adjustment; - Switching of the receiver between the two logical states 0 and L should take place with a control current that is as precisely defined as possible.
A combination of light-emitting diode and phototransistor, which is already known as an optocoupler, can be used as a current-sensitive element with complete separation between the input and the output. However, since the characteristics of commercially available optocouplers are subject to large tolerances, the decision level of the element would be too imprecisely defined if the light-emitting diode were directly fed by the control current from the line. In addition, strong control currents from the line would overload the light-emitting diode and damage the element.
The object of the invention is therefore to create a circuit that applies this control current to a current receiver only above a threshold value of a control current and only applies a current limited to this limit value to the current receiver above a limit value of the control current.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that on a voltage regulator functioning as series stabilization with an input, an output and a common terminal, a control current carrying line with one conductor each to the input terminal and to the common terminal, a load resistor with one end each are connected to the output terminal and to the common terminal, and the current receiver with one connection each between the input terminal and the output terminal, that a voltage limiter is also connected between the input terminal and the common terminal, that the value of the load resistance is selected so that the voltage drop occurring at the load resistor when the threshold value of the control current flows through is equal to the nominal voltage of the voltage regulator,
and that finally the limiting value of the voltage limiter is selected to be equal to the voltage drop occurring in the series connection of the current receiver and the load resistor when the limiting value of the control current flows through.
In a preferred embodiment of the circuit according to the invention, which is used in particular in receiving devices with a teleprinter interface, the current receiver consists of the light-emitting diode of an optocoupler; the voltage limiter consists of a Zener diode, and the load resistance is selected so that when the Zener voltage is applied to the series circuit of the load resistance and the light-emitting diode, a current that does not damage the latter flows through it.
In a further embodiment of the circuit according to the invention, the voltage regulator consists of a transistor whose emitter is connected to the output terminal and whose collector is connected to the input terminal, a resistor connected between the base of the transistor and the input terminal, and finally a resistor connected between the base of the Transistor and the common terminal connected series connection of at least two diodes.
An exemplary embodiment of the circuit according to the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing. Show it:
1 shows a block diagram of the circuit according to the present invention
FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram of an embodiment of the present invention useful in receiving devices with a teletype interface
3 shows the schematic representation of the current through the light-emitting diode used in the embodiment according to FIG. 2, as a function of the control current.
1 shows a voltage regulator S with an input terminal E, an output terminal A and a common terminal G in a block diagram. A load resistor R is connected between terminals A and G, a current receiver Z between terminals A and E, and a voltage limiter L and a line C, each with a conductor CE and CG, are connected between terminals E and G.
Line C carries the control current 1t, which creates the supply voltage VEG between terminals E and G or between the two conductors CE and CG. The current 1; flows through the current receiver Z, and the current 1R flows through the load resistor R below the voltage VAG.
Assume that the voltage regulator S is an ideal voltage regulator, functioning according to the principle of longitudinal stabilization, the nominal voltage of which is the value V, and the voltage limiter L is an ideal voltage limiter, the limiting value of which is V1.
The voltage VAG supplied by the voltage regulator S between terminals A and G is equal to the nominal voltage V5, provided that the applied supply voltage V ,,; sufficient for this: if VEG> V5, VAG = VS applies. On the other hand, if the supply voltage is too low, the nominal voltage can no longer be supplied between terminals A and G, only the supply voltage: if VEG <Vs, VAG = VEG.
An approach equivalent to this, which results from the equations written above, states that if VEG <VS the internal resistance R1 between terminals E and A is equal to zero, while if VEG> Vs this internal resistance R, is higher than zero.
In the case of VEG <VS, no current flows through the current receiver Z, i. H. Iz = 0, because with R = 0 the terminals A and E are short-circuited. Insofar as the supply voltage VEG does not exceed the limit value VL of the voltage limiter L, so that the latter can be disregarded for the time being, the control current Ic flows through the load resistor R, so that finally the control current Ic together with the load resistor R according to Ohm's law, the voltage VEG = VAG determined. If the control current 1 increases, the supply voltage VEG increases, but the current lz in the current receiver Z remains equal to zero as long as Ic <which is equivalent to VEG <VS.
In the case of VEG> VS, Rj is not equal to zero and the control current 1c is divided between the current receiver Z and the internal resistor R connected in parallel.
This creates a voltage drop VEA = VEG-Vs at the current receiver Z, which keeps the voltage VAG = Vs constant. The control current Ic continues to flow through the load resistor R; under the constant voltage V5, Ic = Vs / R, and the control current remains constant over the entire range, where Rj varies from zero to infinity and consequently VEA from zero to Vs (ZIR) and VEG from Vs to Vs (1 + Z / R) vary.
Above this variation range of Rj, VEA and VEG it is no longer possible for the voltage regulator S to keep the voltage constant at the load resistor R; the internal resistance R is and remains infinitely large, the entire control current Ic flows both through the current receiver Z and through the load resistor R, which results in VEG = IC (R + Z).
The latter equation states that the control current Ic and the current lz now increase linearly with the supply voltage VEG.
If the supply voltage VEG now also reaches the limit value VL of the voltage limiter L, this will come into operation and prevent the supply voltage VEG from exceeding the limit value VL. The excess control current Ic is diverted by the voltage limiter L, and in the current receiver Z the current Iz reaches an upper limit Iz = VL / (R + Z).
The above is summarized in the following list:
EMI2.1

If only the current lz in the current receiver is considered as a function of the control current lc in the same way, the following list results:
:

<tb> Iz <SEP> 0 <SEP> constant <SEP> O V5 / R <SEP>) / <SEP> VL / (R + Z) <SEP> constant
<tb>
As can be seen from the latter list, there is a jump from 0 to VsIR at lz when 1c runs through the value VsIR increasing; the reverse jump occurs when 1c is falling.
Of course, a complete jump can only be achieved with an ideal voltage regulator S: depending on the rate of variation of Ic and the other parameters of the circuit, voltage regulators can be found on the market that provide a satisfactory jump in the current in most of the applications of the circuit under consideration Ensure power receiver.
Applications come into consideration in which a current-sensitive element is to be switched on and off cleanly in the vicinity of a certain value of a control current, even if the control current itself does not carry out a clean switching step. The current-sensitive element can, for example, be a light bulb in a display device, or else an electromagnetic relay, a static relay circuit, an electromechanical actuating device and the like.
In a preferred application, the circuit according to the invention is used for the proper delivery of a logical 0 or L signal to the receiver system of a teletype connection at a threshold value of the control current of approximately 8 mA.
The corresponding design of the circuit according to the invention is shown in FIG. The voltage regulator consists of the transistor 1, the resistor 2 and the diodes 3, 4 and 5. The input terminal is labeled 6, the output terminal 7, the common terminal 8, and the load resistor 9. A Zener diode 10 is connected as a voltage limiter between the terminals 6 and 8, as well as a line 11 with conductors 12 and 13, in which the current Ic flows according to the arrow 14. The Stromempfän ger is a light emitting diode 15 of an optocoupler 17, shown schematically in the frame 16, which also has the phototransistor 18 and a number of connections indicated on the frame 16 and not designated.
The light waves are a symbol of the functionality of the optocoupler
19, which ensure the transmission of the signal from the light-emitting diode 15 to the phototransistor 18.
In the voltage regulator and optocoupler used in the present training, the underlying Prin zip and the mode of operation is well known, an explanation he left. The load resistor 9 is selected with 150 ohms so that when a Zener voltage of about
6.8 volts, a current flows through the light-emitting diode 15, which does not damage the latter with about 37.5 mA. With a threshold value of 8 mA of the control current Ic for switching the light emitting diode 15 on and off, the nominal voltage of the voltage regulator with reference to terminal 8 is to be set at around 1.2 volts, because this nominal voltage is derived from the load resistor 9 voltage drop caused by the control current.
Taking into account a base-emitter voltage of about 0.6 volts at transistor 1, the base of transistor 1 with reference to terminal 8 is to be kept at about 1.8 volts, which is achieved by the series connection of a resistor 2 of 1000 ohms and three diodes 3, 4 and 5 takes place. The above values are only given by way of example; in particular, by connecting two, four or even more diodes in series with the appropriate number of Zener diodes connected in series, other threshold and limiting values could be achieved.
The device described works as follows: With a control current Ic between 0 and 8 mA, part of this current flows through the resistor 2 into the base of the transistor 1, which becomes conductive and takes over the rest of the control current between the collector and emitter. No current flows through the light-emitting diode 15. With a control current of approximately 8 mA, the voltage across the load resistor 9 is approximately 1.2 volts, while the base-emitter voltage across the transistor 1 is approximately 0.6 volts. The voltage at the base of the transistor 1 is accordingly about 1.8 volts with respect to the terminal 8, whereby the diodes 3, 4 and 5 become conductive. When the control current Ic increases, the voltage drop in the load resistor 9 becomes greater, while the voltage at the base of the transistor 1 remains essentially constant.
The transistor 1 thus begins to block, and the light-emitting diode 15 takes over the control current Ic in the range from approximately 8 mA to approximately 37.5 mA, provided that the current component through the resistor 2 is disregarded. At a higher control current, the voltage drop in the light-emitting diode 15 is approximately 1.2 volts and in the load resistor 9 approximately 5.6 volts, whereupon approximately 6.8 volts are reached between the terminals 6 and 8, and the Zener diode 10 begins to conduct and the current through the light emitting diode 15 is limited to about 37.5 mA.
In FIG. 3, the current 1LED through the light-emitting diode of the circuit described above and shown schematically in FIG. 2 is graphically illustrated as a function of the control current Ic. The currents are shown in mA, a dashed line shows the function ILED = Ic. As can be seen, 1LED is vanishingly small in the range from Ic = 0 to Ic = 8 mA and practically zero; at about Ic = 8 mA, 1LED suddenly becomes equal to Ic and remains so until about 1LED = IC = 40 mA, the current 1LED through the light emitting diode becomes independent of the control current Ic and remains essentially constant.
The jump in current from 1LED at lc = 8 mA is so steep that the graphical course of 1E E1) appears as a vertical line, which clearly illustrates the suitability of the circuit according to the invention for realizing a clean switching on and off of the light-emitting diode.
