dar.

EMI0006.0004

Beispielhaft seien als Kupferkatalysatoren Kupfer-I- chlorid, Kupfer-II-chlorid, Kupferacetat, Kupferoxide, ele mentares feinverteiltes Kupfer usw. angeführt.

The aroxazole derivatives characterized above can be prepared per se by various methods.
The method of is capable of very broad application

wherein A, A, X, T1 and T1 have the meaning given under formula (1), subjected to a ring closure reaction by heating to temperatures above 100 ° C., preferably in the presence of dehydrating agents.
EMI0006.0004
The compounds of the formulas oxazole ring closure, based on the corresponding acylamides, are particularly valuable polyester spinning wet brighteners. In its most general form, this procedure can be defined in such a way that compounds of the general formula are used for the construction of symmetrical compounds according to formula (1), i. H.
A = A, the corresponding variant comes into consideration, according to which acyl compounds of the formula are subjected to the ring closure reaction by heating to temperatures above 100 ° C., likewise preferably in the presence of dehydrating agents.
For the preparation of the acyl compounds of the formula (20) or

where Y1 and Y2 represent a hydroxyl group, a halogen atom (preferably chlorine) or an alkoxy group (with preferably 1 to 8 carbon atoms).
Depending on whether the production of asymmetrical or symmetrical types is intended, Y1 z Y2 or Y1 = Y = will be selected, whereby it is expedient for the case Y1 to Y2 functions with
EMI0007.0002

(21) offer the corresponding dibenzofuran or -thiophene or -thiophendioxyddicarbonsäuren or their functional derivatives as the one reactant and the o-aminophenols clearly different reactivity, z.
B. Dibenzofuran- dicarboxylic acid ester chlorides, in the event Y1 = Y2 connections as reactive nature as possible, so z. B. Dibenzofu ran-dicarboxylic acid dichloride preferred.
If one wishes to represent asymmetrical types, then it is expedient to use the primary condensation product on the remaining carboxyl function
EMI0007.0013
repeated. The asymmetric types can also be achieved by condensing the dicarboxylic acid derivative with mixtures of at least '' different o-aminophenols, in which case the corresponding symmetric compounds are then generally formed at the same time. Depending on the intended use, these can be separated off or the mixture can be used directly.
The structure of compounds according to general formula (1) and compounds subordinate to the formula can in principle also be carried out in a one-step process, starting from o-aminophenols of formula (22a) or (22b) and dicarboxylic acid derivatives of formula (23) , in which these components are heated together to higher temperatures, expediently between 120 and 350 C in an inert gas (z. B. nitrogen stream). This reaction is preferably carried out equally in the presence of water splitting agents, as described above for the final stage.
However, it is preferable to work in two stages when building up symmetrical compounds by first condensing o-aminophenols of the formula (22a) and dicarboxylic acid compounds of the formula (23) to give acyl compounds of the formula (21).
The dicarboxylic acid chlorides are expediently used here, which are obtained in the presence of an organic solvent such as toluene, xylenes, chlorobenzene or dichlorobenzene. Trichlorobenzene, chlorinated biphenyl or nitrobenzene is condensed with the aminophenols at temperatures up to 220 ° C. and the acyl compounds of the formula (21) obtained are then converted into the azole rings at temperatures between 120 and 350 ° C., optionally in the presence of a catalyst.
If carboxylic acid chlorides are used as starting materials, these can be prepared immediately before the condensation with the o-amino compound from the free carboxylic acid and thionyl chloride, optionally with the addition of a catalyst such as pyridine, in the solvent in which the condensation takes place afterwards, and continue without separation can be used.
Suitable dehydrating agents - including catalyzers with dehydrating action - are, for example, boric acid, boric anhydride, zinc chloride, p-toluenesulfonic acids, thionyl chloride, phosphorus oxychloride, and also polyphosphoric acids, including pyrophosphoric acid. If boric acid is used as the catalyst, it is advantageously used in an amount of 0.5 to Sec. based on the total weight of the reaction mass. It is also possible to use high-boiling, polar, organic solvents such as, for example, dimethylformamide and aliphatic, optionally etherified oxy compounds, e.g. B.
Propylene glycol, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether or diethylene glycol diethyl ether and high-boiling esters of phthalic acid, such as. B. dibutyl phthalate can also be used.
A particularly advantageous process for the preparation of aroxazole derivatives of the formula (3) consists, for. B. in that one by condensation of 'moles of o-aminophenols of the formula
EMI0008.0024
with a dicarboxylic acid of the formula
EMI0008.0025
Acyl compounds obtained in the presence of dehydrating agents, without isolation, are subjected to an azole ring-closing reaction by treatment with the same dehydrating agent as used in the preliminary stage at temperatures between 120 and 350.degree.
An advantageous production process consists in the conversion of dinitriles of the formula
EMI0008.0031
with o-aminophenols of the formulas (22a) or (22b) at elevated temperatures, d. H. at temperatures of 100 to 350 ° C. (preferably 160 to 2 ° C.). This reaction is expedient in the presence of ammonia-binding agents, such as. B. oxygen acids of pentavalent phosphorus such as those of orthophosphoric acid, and carried out in an inert gas stream (z. B. nitrogen stream).
Examples of suitable oxyacids of pentavalent phosphorus are: polyphosphoric acid, pyrophosphoric acid, phosphoric acid.
The reactants are normally used in approximately equivalent amounts, the ammonia-binding agents in amounts of 1 equivalent per mole of ammonia to be split off or more; they can optionally be used as a solvent. It is possible to work either in a melt of the components or in the presence of solvents which are chemically inert towards the reactants. Such solvents are, for example, chlorinated aromatics such as trichlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, chlorinated biphenyl and diethylene glycol dialkyl ether.
The compounds of the formula (1) with sulfonic acid groups on aromatic rings can also be obtained by subsequent sulfonation of the corresponding parent structure.
The compounds according to formula (8) and subordinate formulas can then conveniently be prepared by adding about 2 molar equivalents of aminophenol of the formula
EMI0008.0045
with about 1 molar equivalent of a dicarboxylic acid derivative of the formula
EMI0009.0000

and subsequent ring closure to the corresponding bisbenzoxazolyl derivative. The ring closure reaction is carried out in the presence of polar solvents which are chemically inert to the reactants, and also in the presence of agents that bind hydrogen halide and copper catalysts. In the above formulas, Hal means chlorine or bromine, while all other symbols have the meanings given above.
This production process has proven to be particularly useful for the preparation of symmetrical bisaroxazolyl compounds of the formula (8) and subordinate formulas. where the condensation agent for the case that Z1 and / or Z2 are -C = N, oxygen acids of pentavalent phosphorus are used, while for the case that Z1 and / or Z2 are a group
EMI0009.0010
stand, as condensation agents generally those with a water-splitting effect serve.
Another, in many cases favorable manufacturing process for compounds of the formula (1) consists in the condensation of o-haloanilines with acid derivatives of dibenzothiophene dioxide or -furan according to the scheme. For the representation of compounds of the formula (8), about 2 molar equivalents of a compound of the formula

condensed, where Hal stands for the halogens, chlorine or bromine and Y1 and Y2 represent hydroxyl, halogen or a lower alkyl group.
In the second stage, the ring closure to the corresponding benzoxazole compounds is carried out in the presence of polar solvents, hydrogen halide binding agents and copper catalysts.
Polar solvents that are chemically inert to the reactants are dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, N-methylpyrrolidone, or nitrobenzene as examples. Agents that bind hydrogen halide may be mentioned: alkali acetate, magnesium oxide, organic bases such as pyridine, etc. Copper (I) chloride, copper (II) chloride, copper acetate, copper oxides, elementary finely divided copper, etc., may be mentioned as examples as copper catalysts.
The new compounds of the composition described at the outset have a more or less pronounced fluorescence in the dissolved or finely divided state.
They can be used for the optical brightening of a wide variety of high molecular weight or low molecular weight organic Mate rials or materials containing organic substances.
For this purpose, the following groups of organic materials are mentioned, for example, without the following list expressing any restriction thereto, insofar as an optical brightening of the same is considered: I. Synthetic organic high molecular weight materials: a. Polymerization products based on at least one polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond containing organic compounds, d. H. their homo- or copolymers and their aftertreatment products such as crosslinking, grafting or degradation products, polymer blends, etc., for which, for example, the following may be mentioned: polymers based on α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acids, in particular acrylic compounds (such as e.g. .
Acrylic esters, acrylic acids, acrylonitrile, acrylamides and their derivatives or their methacrylic analogs), olefin hydrocarbons (such as ethylene, propylene, isobutylene, styrenes, dienes such as special butadiene, isoprene, ie also rubbers and rubber-like polymers , also so-called ABS polymers), polymers based on vinyl and vinylidene compounds (such as
Vinyl esters, vinyl chloride, vinyl sulfonic acid, vinyl ether, vinyl alcohol, vinylidene chloride, vinyl carbazole), of halogenated hydrocarbons (chloroprene, highly halogenated ethylene), of unsaturated aldehydes and ketones (e.g. acrolein, etc.), of allyl compounds, etc. ., Graft polymerisation products (e.g.
B. by grafting vinyl monomers), crosslinking products (for example using bifunctional or polyfunctional crosslinkers such as divinylbenzene, polyfunctional allyl compounds or bisacrylic compounds) or by partial degradation (hydrolysis, depolymerization) or modification of reactive groups (e.g. esterification , Etherification, halogenation, self-crosslinking) are available. b. other polymerization products such as B. available through Ringöff voltage, z. B.
Polyamides of the polycaprolactam type, and also formaldehyde polymers or polymers which are obtainable both via polyaddition and polycondensation, such as polyethers, polythioethers, polyacetals, thioplasts. c. Polycondensation products or precondensates based on bifunctional or polyfunctional compounds with condensable groups, their homo- and mixed condensation products and post-treatment products, for which examples include: polyesters, saturated (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) or unsaturated (e.g. maleic acid -Dialcohol polycondensates and their crosslinking products with polymerizable vinyl monomers), unbranched and branched (also based on higher alcohols), such as. B. alkyd resins; Polyamides (e.g.
Hexamethylenediamine adipate), maleate resins, melamine resins, phenolic resins (novolaks), aniline resins, furan resins, carbamide resins and also their precondensates and similarly built products, polycarbonates, silicone resins and others.
d. Polyaddition products such as polyurethanes (crosslinked and uncrosslinked), epoxy resins.
1I. Semi-synthetic organic materials such as B. cellulose esters or mixed esters (acetate, propionate), nitrocellulose, cellulose ether, regenerated cellulose (viscose, copper ammonia cellulose) or their aftertreatment products, casein plastics.
III. Natural organic materials of animal or vegetable origin, for example based on cellulose or proteins such as wool, cotton, silk, raffia, jute, hemp, skins and hair, leather, wood masses in fine distribution, natural resins (such as rosin, especially lacquer resins), also rubber, gutta-percha, balate, as well as their aftertreatment and modification products (e.g. through hardening, crosslinking or grafting), degradation products (e.g. through hydrolysis, depolymerization), products obtainable by modifying reactive groups ( e.g. by acylation, halogenation, crosslinking, etc.).
The organic materials in question can be in the most varied of processing states (raw materials, semi-finished products or finished products) and aggregate states. They can be in the form of the most varied of shaped structures, i. H. so z. B. predominantly three-dimensionally extended body such as blocks, plates, profiles, pipes, injection moldings or various workpieces, chips or granules, foams; predominantly two-dimensional bodies such as films, foils, lacquers, tapes, coatings, impregnations and Beschichtun conditions or predominantly one-dimensional bodies such as threads, fibers, flakes, bristles, wires.
Said mate rials can on the other hand also be present in unshaped states in a wide variety of homogeneous and inhomogeneous forms of distribution and states of aggregation, z. B. as powder, solutions, emulsions, dispersions, latices, (Examples: paint solutions, polymer dispersions, sols, jellies, putties, pastes, waxes, adhesives and fillers, etc.).
Fiber materials can, for example, be in the form of endless threads, staple fibers, flakes, hank goods, textile threads, yarns, twisted threads, nonwovens, felts, wadding, flocking structures or as textile composites, knitted fabrics, as well as paper, cardboard or paper pulps, etc.
The compounds to be used according to the invention are also important for the treatment of textile organic materials, in particular textile fabrics. If fibers, which can be present as staple fibers or continuous fibers, in the form of strands, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, fleeces, flocked substrates or composites, are optically brightened according to the invention, this is advantageously done in an aqueous medium, in which the compound in question is in finely divided form (suspensions, possibly solutions). Optionally dispersants can be added during the treatment, such as. B.
Soaps, polyglycol ethers of fatty alcohols, fatty amines or alkylphenols, cellulose sulphite waste liquor or condensation products of optionally alkylated naphthalenesulphonic acids with formaldehyde. It has proven to be particularly useful to work in a neutral, weakly alkaline or acidic bath. It is also advantageous if the treatment is carried out at elevated temperatures of about 50 to 100 ° C., for example at the boiling point of the bath or near it (about 90 ° C.).
Solutions in organic solvents can also be used for the inventive finishing, as is practiced in dyeing practice in so-called solvent dyeing (foulard thermofixing application, exhaust dyeing process in drum dyeing machines), for example for polyamide and polyester substrates.
The novel optical brightening agents to be used according to the invention can furthermore be added to or incorporated into the materials before or during their deformation. For example, they can be added to the molding compound or injection molding compound in the production of films, foils, tapes or moldings, or they can be dissolved in the spinning compound before spinning, dispersed or otherwise ensuring a homogeneous fine distribution. The optical brighteners can also be added to the starting substances, reaction mixtures or intermediate products for the production of fully or semi-synthetic organic materials, i.e. before or during the chemical reaction, for example in the case of a polycondensation (i.e. also precondensates), in a polymerization (i.e. also Prepolymers) or a polyaddition.
The new optical brighteners can of course also be used wherever organic materia lien of the type indicated above are combined with inorganic materials in any form (typical examples: detergents, white pigments in organic substances).
The new optically brightening substances are characterized by particularly good heat resistance, lightfastness and migration resistance.
The amount of the new optical brighteners to be used according to the invention, based on the material to be optically brightened, can vary within wide limits. Even with very small amounts, in certain cases e.g. B. those of 0.001 percent by weight, a clear and durable effect can be achieved. However, amounts of up to about 0.5 percent by weight and more can also be used. For most practical purposes, amounts between 0.01 and 0.2 weight percent are preferably of interest.
The new compounds serving as lightening agents can also be used, for example, as follows: a. In mixtures with dyes or pigments or as an additive to dye baths, printing, etching or reserve pastes. Also for the aftertreatment of dyeings, prints or etching prints. b. In mixtures with so-called carriers, antioxidants, light stabilizers, heat stabilizers, chemical bleaching agents or as an additive to bleach baths. c. In a mixture with crosslinkers, finishing agents such as starch or synthetically accessible finishes. The products according to the invention can advantageously also be added to the liquors used to achieve a crease-resistant finish.
d. In combination with detergents. The detergents and brightening agents can be added separately to the washing baths to be used. It is also advantageous to use detergents that contain the whitening agents mixed in. Suitable detergents are, for example, soaps, salts of sulfonate detergents, such as.
B. of sulfonated benzimidazoles substituted on the 2 carbon atom by higher alkyl radicals, also salts of monocarboxylic acid esters of 4-sulfthalic acid with higher fatty alcohols, further salts of fatty alcohol sulfonates, alkylarylsulfonic acids or condensation products of higher fatty acids with aliphatic oxy or aminosulfonic acids. Furthermore, non-ionic detergents can be used, e.g. B.
Polyglycol ethers derived from ethylene oxide and higher fatty alcohols, alkylphenols or fatty amines and higher fatty alcohols, alkylphenols or fatty amines.
e. In combination with polymeric carrier materials (polymerization, polycondensation or polyaddition products) in which the brighteners are incorporated in dissolved or dispersed form, optionally alongside other substances, e.g. B. for coating, impregnating or binding agents (solutions, dispersions, emulsions) for textiles, fleeces, paper, leather.
f. As additives to a wide variety of industrial produc th to make the same marketable or to avoid disadvantages in serviceability, z. B. as an additive to glues, adhesives, toothpastes, paints, etc. g. In combination with others, the substances have a visually brightening effect (e.g. for the purpose of changing nuances). H. In spin bath preparations, d. H. as additives to Spinnbä countries as they are used to improve the sliding ability for the further processing of synthetic fibers.
The compounds of the formula given at the outset can be used as scintillators, for various purposes photographic cal type, such as for electrophotographic reproduction or for supersensitization.
If the lightening process is combined with other treatment or refinement methods, the combined treatment is advantageously carried out with the help of appropriate permanent preparations. Such preparations are characterized in that they contain optically brightening compounds of the general formula given at the beginning as well as dispersants, detergents, carriers, dyes, pigments or finishing agents.
When treating a number of fiber substrates, e.g. B. of polyester fibers, with the inventive brighteners one proceeds expediently in such a way that these fibers with the aqueous dispersions of the brightening agents at temperatures below 75 C, z. B. at room temperature, impregnated and subjected to a dry heat treatment at temperatures above 100 C, it is generally recommended that the fiber material beforehand at a moderately elevated tempera ture, z. B. at at least 60 C to about 100 C to dry.
The heat treatment in the dry state is then advantageously carried out at temperatures between 120 and 225 ° C., for example by heating in a drying chamber, by ironing in the specified temperature range or by treatment with dry, superheated steam. The drying and dry heat treatment can also be carried out immediately one after the other or combined in a single operation.
