Medika menten), photochemisch induzierte Umlagerungen, Oxy- dation usw. B. bei menschlicher Haut) u. a. m.

The present invention relates to the use of new, valuable hydroxyphenyl-1, 3,5-triazines which, such. B. the compound of formula
EMI1.1
the general formula
EMI1.2
correspond, in which X is hydrogen or methyl, as an ultraviolet protection agent outside the textile industry.
Examples of these new hydroxyphenyl-1,3,5-triazines of the general formula (2) are those of the formula
EMI1.3
especially mentioned where n is a positive integer from 1 to 12. The alkyl group -C! "+ can mean, for example, methyl, ethyl, n-butyl, tert-butyl, n-octyl or n-dodecyl.
The new hydroxyphenyl-1,3,5-triazines of the formula (2) given at the outset are obtained by methods known per se, for example by adding 1 mol of ines monochloro-1, in an anhydrous medium in the presence of Friedel-Crafts catalysts, in particular aluminum chloride, 3,5-triazines of the formula

wherein X has the meaning given, the standing in para position to the direct bond to the triazine ring hydroxyl group of the resorcinol in a known manner with corresponding alkyl halides, such as.
B. n-propyl, n-octyl and dodecyl bromides, or etherified with dialkyl sulfates such as diethyl sulfate.
For the preparation of new hydroxylphenyl-1,3,5-triazines one can also proceed so that in Ge the presence of Friedel-Crafts catalysts 1 mol of a monochloro-1,3,5-triazine of the formula (4) with 1 mol of a 1 , 3-dialkoxybenzene of the formula

The monochloro-1,3,5-triazine of the formula (4), in which X is methyl, can be obtained in an analogous manner from 1 mol of cyanuric chloride and 2 mol of 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene.
With the aid of the compounds described above under formula (2) and the following formulas, in principle all organic materials outside the textile industry that are damaged or destroyed in any way by the influence of ultraviolet rays can be stabilized and protected. Such damage caused by the same cause, namely ultraviolet radiation, can have very different effects, for example color change, change in mechanical properties (brittleness, cracks, tensile strength, flexural strength, abrasion resistance, elasticity, aging), initiation of undesired chemical reactions (decomposition of sensitive chemical substances , e.g.
Medication), photochemically induced rearrangements, oxidation, etc. (for example of oils containing unsaturated fatty acids), triggering of symptoms of burns and irritation (e.g. in human skin) and the like. a. m. The use of the compounds defined above for the protection of polycondensation products and polyaddition products against the action of ultraviolet is of preferred importance. In addition, a number of the compounds defined above show, in addition to the said ultraviolet protective effect, a stabilizing effect against the effects of oxygen and heat, as well as antistatic properties.
The organic materials to be protected - as defined above - can exist in the most varied of processing states and aggregate states, while their common feature is a sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation.
As low-molecular or higher-molecular substances for which the inventive method for protecting or stabilizing come into consideration, there may be mentioned, for example, without limitation: organic natural substances such as are used for pharmaceutical purposes (medicaments), UV-sensitive dyes, compounds, which are decomposed as food or in food by exposure to light (unsaturated fatty acids in oils) etc.
Examples of high molecular weight organic substances are: I. Synthetic organic high molecular weight materials such as: a) Polymerization products based on organic compounds containing at least one polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond, i. H. their homo- or copolymers and their
Aftertreatment products, such as crosslinking, grafting or degradation products, polymer blends, modification products, for example
Modification of reactive groups in the polymer molecule, etc., such as. B. Polymers based on α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acids (e.g. acrylates,
Acrylamides, acrylonitrile), of olefin hydrocarbons, such as.
B. a-olefins, ethylene, propylene or
To serve, d. H. So also rubbers and rubber-like polymers (also so-called ABS polymers),
Polymers based on vinyl and vinylidene
Compounds (e.g. styrene, vinyl ester, vinyl chloride,
Vinyl alcohol), halogenated hydrocarbons, unsaturated aldehydes and ketones, al lyl compounds, etc.; b) other polymerization products such. B. by
Ring opening available e.g. B.
Polyamides of the poly caprolactam type, also formaldehyde polymers or polymers that are available both via polyaddition and polycondensation, such as poly ethers, polythioethers, polyacetals, thioplasts; c) polycondensation products or precondensates
Base of bifunctional or polyfunctional compounds with condensable groups, their homo- and
Mixed condensation products and products of the
Post-treatment, for which, for example, are mentioned:
Polyesters [safflowed (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) or unsaturated (e.g. maleic acid-dialcohol polycondensates and their crosslinking products with polymerizable vinyl monomers), unbranched and branched (also based on higher quality
Alcohols such as B.
Alkyd resins)], polyamides (e.g.
Hexamethylenediamine adipate), maleinate resins, melamine resins, phenolic resins (e.g. novolaks), aniline resins, furan resins, carbamide resins and also their
Precondensates and products built in the same way, polycarbonates, silicone resins and others; d) Polyaddition products, such as polyurethanes (crosslinked and uncrosslinked), epoxy resins.
II. Semi-synthetic organic materials, such as. B.
Cellulose esters or mixed esters (acetate, propionate), nitrocellulose, cellulose ether, regenerated cellulose (viscose, copper ammonia cellulose) or their aftertreatment products or casein plastics.
III. Natural organic materials of animal or vegetable origin, for example based on cellulose or proteins, such as bast, jute, hemp, skins and hair, leather, wood masses in fine distribution, natural resins (such as rosin, in particular varnish resins), gelatine, glue, and also rubber, Gutta-percha, balata and their aftertreatment and modification products, degradation products, products obtainable by modifying reactive groups.
The organic materials in question, especially plastics from the class of polymers of vinyl chloride and propylene, saturated and unsaturated polyesters, celluloses and polyamides, can be in a wide variety of processing states (raw materials, semi-finished or finished products) and aggregate states. They can be in the form of the most varied of shaped structures, i. H. so z. B. predominantly three-dimensionally expanded body, such as profiles, containers or a wide variety of workpieces, chips or granules, foams; predominantly two-dimensionally extended bodies, such as films, foils, lacquers, impregnations and coatings or predominantly one-dimensionally formed bodies such as threads, fibers, flakes, bristles, wires.
Said materials can, on the other hand, also exist in unshaped states in the most varied of homogeneous and inhomogeneous distribution forms and states of aggregation, e.g. B. as powder, solutions, normal and reverse emulsions (creams), dispersions, latices, sols, gels, putties, waxes, adhesives and fillers, etc.
Fiber materials can be in a wide variety of non-textile processing forms, e.g. B. as continuous threads, nonwovens, felts, wadding, flocking structures or as papers, cardboard, etc.
The new stabilizers can also be used, for example, as follows: a) in cosmetic preparations such as perfumes, colored and uncolored soaps and bath additives, skin and face creams, powders, repellants and, in particular, special sunscreen oils and creams; b) in mixtures with so-called careers, antioxidants, other light stabilizers, heat stabilizers or chemical bleaching agents; c) in a mixture with crosslinkers; d) in combination with detergents, wherein the detergents and stabilizers can also be added separately to the wash baths to be used; e) in gelatin layers for photographic purposes;
f) in combination with polymeric carrier materials (polymerization, polycondensation or poly addition products), in which the stabilizers ge are optionally embedded in dissolved or dispersed form in addition to other substances, eg. B. at
Coating or binding agents (solutions, dispersions, emulsions) for nonwovens, paper, leather; g) as additives to a wide variety of industrial Pro products to reduce their aging rate, z. B. as an additive to glues, adhesives,
Paints, etc.
The new stabilizers to be used according to the invention are preferably added to or incorporated into the materials before or during their shaping. For example, they can be added to the molding compound or injection molding compound in the production of films, foils, tapes or moldings, or they can be dissolved, dispersed or otherwise finely distributed in the spinning compound before spinning. The protective agents can also be added to the starting substances, reaction mixtures or intermediate products for the production of fully or semi-synthetic organic materials before or during the chemical reaction, e.g. B. in polycondensations (including precondensates), in polymerizations (including prepolymers) or in polyadditions.
An important application variant for the stabilizers to be used according to the invention is that these substances are incorporated into a protective layer which protects the material located behind them. This can be done in such a way that the ultraviolet absorbers are applied to the surface layer (a film, a multi-dimensional molded body). This can be achieved, for example, by a type of dyeing process or the active substance can be embedded in a polymer (polycondensate, polyadduct) film according to surface coating methods known per se for polymeric substances, or the active substance can be added in dissolved form by means of a suitable solvent Diffuse or swell in the surface layer.
Another important variant consists in that the ultraviolet absorber is embedded in a self-supporting, essentially two-dimensional carrier material, e.g. B. a film or a vessel wall in order to keep ultraviolet radiation from the substance behind it (examples: shop windows, films, transparent packaging, bottles).
From the above, it goes without saying that, in addition to protecting the substrate or the carrier substance containing the ultraviolet absorber, the protection of other substances accompanying the substrate is also achieved at the same time, for example dyes, antioxidants, disinfectant additives, antistatic agents and other finishes, plasticizers and fillers.
Depending on the nature of the substance to be protected or stabilized, its sensitivity or the application-related form of protection and stabilization, the amount of stabilizer required can vary within wide limits, for example between about 0.01 and 10 percent by weight, based on that to be protected Substrate amount. For most practical purposes, however, amounts of about 0.05 to 2 / o are sufficient.
It is often advisable to use the above-mentioned light stabilizers in combination with sterically hindered phenols, esters of thiodipropionic acid or organic phosphorus compounds.
The parts and percentages mentioned in the following production instructions and examples always represent parts by weight and percentages by weight, unless stated otherwise.

Example 1
From a 10% strength acetyl cellulose solution which, calculated on acetyl cellulose, contains 10% of the compound of the formula (1), a film about 40 μm thick is produced. After drying, the following values are obtained for the percentage of light transmission:
Light transmission in ouzo
Wavelength in m, unexposed exposed (100 hours fadeometer) 280 to 350 0 0
360 5 5
370 40 40
380 70 70 Similar results are obtained with the compounds of the formulas (9), (10), (11) or (8).
Example 2
10,000 parts of a polyamide in chip form prepared in a known manner from hexamethylenediamine adipate are mixed with 30 parts of titanium dioxide (rutile modification) and 50 parts of one of the compounds of the formulas (1) and (9) to (11) in a roller vessel for 12 hours mixed. The chips treated in this way are melted in a kettle heated to 300 ° C. to 310 ° C. with oil, after the atmospheric oxygen has been displaced by superheated steam, and stirred for half an hour. The melt is then pressed out through a spinneret under a nitrogen pressure of 5 atmospheres and the filament spun and cooled in this way is wound onto a spinning bobbin.
The tensile strength of the threads obtained in this way after stretching declines much less under the influence of light than that of those produced otherwise in the same way, but without the addition of the compound of formula (1), (9), (10) or (11) Threads.
Example 3
A paste of 100 parts of polyvinyl chloride, 59 parts by volume of dioctyl phthalate and 0.2 parts of the compound of the formula (11) is rolled out on the calender at 150 ° to 155 ° C. to form a film. The polyvinyl chloride film obtained in this way absorbs completely in the ultraviolet range from 280 to 360 m, lt.
Instead of the compound of the formula (11), one of the compounds of the formulas (9) and (10) can also be used.
Example 4
A paper pulp is made in a Dutchman, consisting of
150 parts of bleached sulphite or sulphate cellulose,
60 parts of zinc sulfide,
6 parts of aluminum sulfate,
3 parts of a finely dispersed aqueous paste containing 30 ouzo of the azo pigment of the formula
EMI5.3
contains and 5000 parts of water.
The decorative paper made from this mass is coated with untreated silk or. Overlay paper placed in a bath, made from
100 parts of a powdery, curable, water-soluble condensation product of 1 mol
Melamine and about 2 moles of formaldehyde, and
100 parts of a mixture obtained from a solution of 0.5 part of the compound of the formula (1), (9), (10) or (11) in 19.5 parts of dimethylformamide by diluting with 80 parts of water .
After removing the excess resin solution, the papers are dried.
The decorative paper treated in this way is pressed together with the treated tissue paper, which is used as the cover sheet, on a base consisting of a layer of phenolic paper and barrier sheets impregnated with melamine resin as an intermediate layer for 10 minutes at 140 to 150 C and 100 kg per cm2 pressure.
After exposure to the fadeometer, the laminate obtained shows significantly better lightfastness than one which does not contain the compound of the formula (1), (9), (10) or (11).
Example 5
A mixture of 100 parts of polyethylene (Alka- thene WNG 14) and 0.2 parts of the compound of the formula (11) is rolled out on the calender at 130 to 140 ° C to form a film and pressed at 130 ° C.
The polyethylene film obtained in this way is practically impermeable to ultraviolet light in the range from 280 to 380 ma.
Similar results are obtained when using polypropylene instead of polyethylene.
