Die Erfindung stellt eine wesentliche Verbesserung dar und ist durch die Kombination folgender Merkmale gekennzeichnet: a) ein Metallrohr, durch welches ein Medium strömt; b) mehrere aus keramischem Material bestehende längliche Umhüllungsteile zum Schützen des Rohres vor der Wärmequelle;

Heat exchanger The present invention relates to a heat exchanger for heat sources with temperatures above 650 C.
The need for such heat exchangers, which are able to withstand very high temperatures and pressures, increases with the demand for increased utilization of heat engines. But it was precisely the high temperatures and pressures that could not be mastered with conventional heat exchangers.
The invention represents a significant improvement and is characterized by the combination of the following features: a) a metal tube through which a medium flows; b) a plurality of elongated sheathing members made of ceramic material for protecting the tube from the heat source;
c) the pipe and the casing parts have different coefficients of thermal expansion, the pipe with the higher coefficient of thermal expansion being arranged within the casing parts with the lower coefficient of thermal expansion and, when cold, there is a gap between the pipe and the casing parts so that the Operating temperature, the pipe rests closely against the envelope parts.

For a better understanding of the problems to be solved with the object of the invention, an application area that consists of the com bination of a gas turbine with an exhaust steam turbine in a power plant was first discussed.
Such a gas turbine is a particularly desirable upstream machine because it has proven to be particularly effective. An obstacle to the use indicated above is the problem of firing the turbine with coal or with residual fuel oil. In the case of coal firing, the problem consists in avoiding damage to the turbine wheel and similar parts as a result of erosion or deposition of molten ash, which contains alkali sulfates and some vanadium oxide. In the case of oil firing, however, complex residues containing vanadium cause severe corrosion at high temperatures.
One solution to these problems is the use of heat exchangers - the radiation type for transferring heat from the atmospheric pressure flame of the coal or oil combustion into the pressurized air, which is used in the gas turbine. The heat exchanger can serve as a heat source for a heating process or as an exhaust gas heat exchanger. The use of a heat exchanger also allows the advantageous construction of a gas turbine with closed circulation.
In such a heat exchanger, an output temperature of about 850 C is required for adaptation to conventional turbines and should be 1000 C or higher. Conventional exchangers made of stainless steel are limited to temperatures around 650 C. Only the so-called superalloys, with large proportions of critical components such as cobalt and niobium, can withstand creep at such high temperatures. Such materials are not economical for heat exchangers. Since the size of the exchanger has to be kept small because of the costs, the temperature difference between the wall and the air must be very large.
Wall temperatures of 1100 C to 1250 C are therefore desirable. With regard to the resistance at such high temperatures, only particularly refractory materials such as aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide, mullite and silicon carbide, which are porous and very heavy, come into question as an economic mate rial which does not creep and which resists oxidation are to be processed.
These problems are intended to solve the embodiments of a heat exchanger to be described below.
According to FIG. 1, 10 denotes a channel section of a heat exchanger, which arrangement comprises a tubular housing 11 made, for example, of stainless steel or of Inconel alloy. Concentrically around the tube 11, one or more envelope parts 12, 12 'are arranged, for which ceramic material, such as the most varied forms of silicon carbides, such as clay-bound, nitrite-bound or self-binding silicon carbides, is used.
The sheath part 12 is used for strength even at high temperatures in order to prevent the inner tube 11 from being torn due to creep fractures. The inner tube 11 serves as a tight guide tube, which can easily be connected to conventional line systems. The described arrangement makes use of the complementary properties of metal and ceramics, in that metal is easily machinable and weldable in a leak-tight manner, but relatively weak at high temperatures, ceramics, but difficult to machine and difficult to keep tight, but is very resistant to heat.
Another advantage of this combination of an inner metal tube with an outer ceramic container is the ability to use different metals under conditions that would otherwise lead to creep cracks without support. The combination described serves the purpose of supporting the metal tube 11 against internal pressure by using the ceramic envelope 12 and protecting it from the combustion products. In addition, the wall thickness of the tube 11 can be reduced compared to that necessary without using the ceramic coating.
In a preferred embodiment, an Inconel metal alloy is used for the tube 11 and silicon carbide is used for the housing 12. Inconel metal is an alloy of 77% nickel, 15% chromium, 7% iron and a small amount of copper, zinc, manganese and carbon. Inconel metal has a short-term elongation strength of about 773 kg / cm2 and an elongation of 67% at 1100 C. This metal can be used in a non-sulphidized atmosphere at temperatures from 1100 to 1250 C.
Other suitable alloys are nickel-chromium alloys with 80% nickel and 20% chromium, 310-stainless steel with 25% nickel, 20% chromium and 55% iron and 446-stainless steel with 27% chromium and 63% iron. The wall thickness of the tube 11 can be approximately 1.6 mm. In this preferred embodiment, a clay-bonded silicon carbide with a wall thickness of approximately 12.7 mm was used for the housing 12.
In order to achieve an interaction of the tube 11 with the ceramic tube 12, a certain relationship must be established between their temperature expansion characteristics. The expansion coefficient of the ceramic is 2.6-10-6 per 5/9 C and that of the metal used here 8.4-10-6 per 5/9 C. This results in the need for a radial gap between the two parts 11 and 12. The gap is dependent on the different coefficients and must be large enough that the expanding metal does not burst the ceramic envelope, but only rests against it.
The shell 12 thus supports the tube 11 at the operating temperatures, the tube 11 contracting when it cools down without permanent deformation occurring. At peak temperatures around 1100 C, the relative expansion of the metal tube is 1.2% of the radius of the latter, which is a measure of the minimum distance between parts 11 and 12.
Regardless of whether the housing is made of metal and the covering parts are made of ceramic material or whether it is the other way round, the housing must in any case have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the covering part. In this way, the result is that the space between the casing parts and the inner housing is no longer present when the operating temperatures are reached. This results in a very close and, above all, even contact between the housing and the covering parts.
So they form a solid unit, the properties of both materia lien complement each other in an advantageous manner, in that one material is responsible for the leak tightness and the other material is responsible for the strength of the entire unit.
As already indicated above, applications are also conceivable in which the greater pressure of the fluid medium acts from the outside on the pipe arrangement of the exchanger. In such a case, the inner tube made of ceramic (magnesite with a thermal expansion coefficient of 7.2- 10-6 at 22 to 1000 C) and the outer tube made of ferritic stainless steel (type 446-rust- free steel) with a coefficient of thermal expansion of 6.6 .10 -6 at 22 to 650 C.
The sheathing parts 12, which in the following for the sake of simplicity are referred to as ceramic housing, are cast with a corresponding internal axial taper in order to be able to easily remove the cast core. This taper can be about 1.6 mm in terms of diameter for a length of about 762 mm. For this purpose, the maximum clearance at the furthest end of the taper should not exceed 2.5% in order to avoid excessive stretching of the metal. This brings a minimum gap of about 8 mm and, as an example, a taper of 8 mm per 0.3 m for a 63 mm bore.
In view of the difficult conditions at high operating temperatures and the limited length of the silicon carbide tubes, a connection point must be created between the individual tube sections in such a way that the encased metal tube is adequately protected and the inner and outer tubes have the opportunity to expand axially . At the same time, the connection point should avoid excessive wear and tear on the metal tube.
According to Fig. 1, a butt joint 13 is provided between the individual ceramic tube sections 12, 12 ', etc., the sections continuously on one another. Now that the metal tube 11 has a greater expansion than the individual ceramic tube sections, a gap will appear between the sections at operating temperature. This gap should be kept as narrow as possible, so that the thin wall of the tube 11 bridges the gap with moderate tension.
It was found that the gap mentioned is approximately 3.9 mm for a section length of 30 cm. Wall parts of the pipe 11 bridge the individual gaps with an internal pressure of about 20.5 kg / cm2.
The use of a large number of ceramic tube pieces 12 makes the need for a complicated connection between the individual pieces unnecessary and reduces the axial seizure. Here it must be prevented that the sections slide on the pipe 11 in order to achieve uniform gaps at all connection points. Inadmissible stomata, in particular gaps that are too wide, would prevent a sufficiently fe most bridging by the pipe 11. In practice, the evenness of the gaps is ensured by the advantage of the inner tapering of the pieces 12, 12 ′ in cooperation with the tube 11.
During operation, at a high temperature, the arrangement according to FIG. 1 will now change into an arrangement according to FIG. 2, with a gap 14 appearing in that the metal tube 11 has expanded accordingly. As can be seen, the tube 11 assumes a shape corresponding to the tapering of the relevant section 12 from, with a GE curved section 15 bridging the gap. After cooling, the arrangement then assumes a shape as shown in FIG. As can be seen, the tube 11 maintains the deformation caused by the heat, which prevents mutual displacement.
Of course, other connec tions between the individual pieces 12, 12 ', etc. are also conceivable, as will be explained in more detail below with reference to some forms of execution.
According to FIG. 4, a connecting arrangement 16 is provided between adjacent ceramic tube pieces 12 and 12 ', in which a butt joint 17 is surrounded by a thin metal cylinder 18. This metal cylinder is made of the same material as the tube 11 and is intended to prevent combustion residues from penetrating the butt joint and to neutralize the corrosive particles in the gases. The tall cylinder 18 is also surrounded by a cylinder 19 made of the same material as the pieces 12. A gap is provided between the two cylinders.
Where the axial gap between adjacent ceramic pieces can be large or where the part of the Me tallrohres that bridges the gap is to be additionally supported, a connection arrangement 20 according to FIG. 5 can be provided. Here the element 18 'has an inner annular shoulder so that a T-shaped cross-sectional shape results for the cylinder. The web divides the gap into two sub-gaps.
As Fig. 6 illustrates in more detail, the ring 19 surrounding the cylinder 18 can also be formed as part of the ceramic tube piece. As the Ausfüh approximate shape shows, there is at one end of a ceramic piece 22 a lip 23 which overlaps the end of the adjacent ceramic piece 22 '. The metal ring 18 is located between the two overlapping ends.
In the connection arrangement 24 according to FIG. 7, the two adjacent ceramic pieces 25 and 25 'are stepped off, the lips 26 and 27 overlapping each other at a radial distance such that the metal ring 18 still has space between them.
In the connection arrangement 28 of two ceramic tube pieces 29 and 30 according to FIG. 8, the ceramic piece 29 has a step 31 and the ceramic part has a step 31 ', in such a way that a cylindrical chamber 32 is delimited by both parts, which is used to receive a ceramic ring 33 and the concentric to the latter arranged ring 18 is used. The gap 34 bridged by the bodies 33 and 18 is here again divided into two smaller partial gaps.
An alternative solution for strengthening the wall in the area of the gap is shown in FIG. 9. The connection arrangement 35 between two ceramic parts 36 and 36 'is produced by a lip 37 which is molded onto part 36' and which allows part 36 to slide or overlaps with a distance 38 for the insertion of the cylinder 18. Furthermore, a short metal or ceramic cylinder 39, which is cambered on its inside, is located between tube 11 and tube 36 to bridge the joint 40. In operation, as described, the pipe 11 will expand and deform from its position shown in the dashed line position 11 '.
The depression in the tube 11 in the area of the ring 39 can also be pre-formed by whirling or die work. In this case, the ring 39 can be divided into two parts, which is then held in place by the recess and the overlying sections 36 and 36 '. The purpose of the ring 39 is to bridge the butt joint while reinforcing the pipe wall at this point. This construction can be used if the ceramic sections are longer, which gives larger gaps, or if there is greater pressure than in the embodiments according to FIGS. 1 to 6.
The principle of all the connection arrangements shown in Fig. 4 to 9 consists in the production of a curved path between the corrosive atmosphere and the pipe 11, in which a metal ring is expediently included to intercept the corrosive particles.
Fig. 10 now shows one of the forms of application of the heat exchanger of the construction described above, based on a gas turbine power plant 41. The circle 41 represents a coal-fired system in which the coal in the combustion chamber 42 is burned. The combustion products then pass through a heat exchanger 43 to an exhaust gas boiler or similar apparatus.
A fluid medium, such as air, passes through a compressor 44 into the heat exchanger 43, in which the temperature of the medium rises sharply. The medium is passed from the heat exchanger 43 through a turbine 45. The outlet of the turbine 45 is then fed to the combustion chamber 42. In such a system, the dimensions of the heat exchanger tube 11 are about 12 m and the ceramic sections 12 30-60 cm.
It has been found that in such a system, a large number of ceramic sections are advantageously used with a butt joint at the connection points, for example according to the embodiment shown in FIG. If ceramic parts from 91 cm to 1.52 m are used, butt joints according to Fig. 5, 8 or 9 should be used.
The exchanger tube arrangement can be installed running horizontally, with a support every 91 to 152 cm, or installed running vertically, as in a conventional boiler. In the vertical installation, however, measures must be taken ge by which the weight of the Umhül treatment parts is essentially absorbed in order to avoid stretching or pressing the metal tube at the hot end. Such an arrangement 50 is shown in FIG. According to FIG. 11, the arrangement comprises a hot line 51 and a cold line 52 as well as a connecting pipe arrangement 53 which is exposed to the combustion heat in a furnace.
The exchange air flows from the cold pipe through the pipe arrangement to the hot pipe. Said pipe arrangement 53 is, as described with reference to FIG. 1, formed. On the pipe assembly 53 an expansion loop 54 is connected, which in addition to the expansion compensation at the same time still fulfills the purpose of the weight of the pipe assembly 53 elastically aufzuneh men. The loop 54 can also be used as a preheater, for which exhaust gases from the combustion chamber are fed directly to the loop.
Instead of the expansion loop, a bellows 55 according to FIG. 12 can also be used to compensate for the expansion and as a support means, which is attached to the pipe 52, the pipe 11 being in a sliding connection 56 with the pipe 52 for expansion. Alternatively, according to FIG. 13, a spring 58 can also be used instead of the bellows, the tube 11 extending over a packing 57 into the cold tube 52.
Arrangements according to FIGS. 12 and 13 require a bracing between the individual tubes such as clamps and the like in the case of greater length in order to avoid their bending. 14 shows measures for this with an arrangement of several parallel pipes 60 and 61 etc. The individual ceramic envelope parts 62, 63, 64 and 65 are made by means of bell-shaped or sleeve-shaped connections, similar to the connection described in FIG dung, united with one another.
In order to avoid bending or kinking the parallel pipes, interlocking approaches are used as a connection. The bell housing or the sleeve 66 of the tube 62 has, for. B. laterally protruding lugs 67 and 68, which each form a concave incision 71 for receiving the adjacent tube 64. The sleeve part 6.9 of the ceramic tube 64 is undercut at 70 to accommodate the projection 68. This interlocking of the individual parts, which. is also referred to as a lock, is better shown in FIG.
This figure shows a cross section corresponding to the cutting lines 15 of FIG. 14. The projections 68, 68 'show this concave incision 71. The sleeve 69 of the ceramic tube 64 is also undercut and has the two projections 72, 73 protruding laterally . As shown, these two lugs 72, 73 are arranged in a line; which is shifted 45 'ver to the direction in which the other lugs 67, 67', 68, 68 'are arranged.
In experiments, pipe arrangements of the type described above with a length of 60 to 122 cm were heated under pressure in an electric furnace. Inconel metal pipes with a diameter of 41.3 to 62.5 mm and clay-bonded silicon carbide jacket pipe sections were used here. The pressure for the larger pipes was 3.15 kg / cm2 and for the smaller pipes 5.25 kg / cm2. The experiment lasted 1500 hours at a temperature of about 1100 C.
In addition, pipe arrangements of the type described above were tested in coal-fired ovens at a pressure of 7.03 kg / cm2. No signs of corrosion could subsequently be found on any of the tested pieces.
In another experiment with the same Rohran arrangements was blown through at a temperature of 1150 C air at atmospheric pressure and a temperature of 27 C of 19.76 m per second. The temperature of the metal pipe was measured there at 1050 C and the exiting air at 138 C with a length of 914 mm.
It was also found that there is no chemical reaction between the inner and outer pipes. Heat exchangers of the type described in detail above can be used for all conceivable systems in the industry. In particular, such a heat exchanger can be used in machines whose working medium is a metal vapor, such as mercury, cesium, zinc, etc., where corrosion has been a particular problem up to now. Other areas of application are, for example, the aforementioned gas turbines, generators, steam heaters or heaters for chemicals.
Materials other than those mentioned above can also be used as the material for the inner tube, for example quartz or silicon glass, which allow even higher temperatures than metal with the corresponding support. When using reducing gases such as hydrogen or hydrocarbons, it is desirable that the inner tube be made of double metal. The so-called inner tube consists of a metal that is not attacked by the reducing atmosphere. The so-called outer tube consists of another metal that is not attacked by the oxidizing atmosphere. Both are encased in a hard metal jacket.
