Process for the preparation of disperse dyes The present invention provides a process for the preparation of disperse dyes which are sparingly soluble in water and which contain at least one mono- or binuclear aromatic acyl radical connected to the dye radical via a nitrogen atom and bearing at least one low molecular weight haloalkyl group.
Such N-acyl radicals are example groups of the formula
EMI0001.0010
where x is hydrogen or optionally substituted low molecular weight alkyl, y is —CO— or —SO2—, z is halogen, n and m are low integers, and in which the nucleus A can also carry further substituents.
The process for preparing the new dispersion dyestuffs consists in that organic compounds which contain at least one amino group with an exchangeable hydrogen atom and also at least one substituent capable of forming azo dyestuff are mixed with a functional derivative of an aromatic mono- or binuclear acid which carries at least one low molecular weight haloalkyl group, condenses,
and the reaction products obtained are converted into water-soluble dyes by azo coupling. The components are to be selected so that the end products are free from carboxylic acid and sulfonic acid groups.
A preferred process is characterized in that the condensation is carried out with aromatic acid halides of the formula
EMI0001.0039
carries out, in which y -CO- or -S02-, z and w halogen, n and m a lower integer, and in which the nucleus A can also carry further substituents.
The method can e.g. B. be carried out in such a way that at least one reactive amino group with exchangeable hydrogen atom and also an inert compound containing diazotizable amino group is reacted with a functional derivative of an aromatic acid according to the invention,
the intermediate product is diazotized and the diazo compound with an azo component to form a sparingly water-soluble disperse dye, or that at least one amino group with an exchangeable hydrogen atom and also a compound containing substituents which can be converted into a diazotizable amino group with a functional derivative of an inventive aromatic compound Converts acid,
in the intermediate product, the substituent which can be converted into a diazotizable amino group is converted into such a substituent, the amino body is diazotized and the diazo compound is coupled with an azo component to form a disperse dye that is sparingly soluble in water.
On the other hand, compounds with at least one amino group with exchangeable hydrogen atom and a carbon atom capable of coupling, z. B. aminohydroxy compounds, condense with a functional derivative of an organic acid according to the invention to form an intermediate product that can be used as an azo component.
Of course, the diazo compound from an aromatic acyl radical according to the invention can also be coupled to the diazo component with an azo component which also contains such a radical.
The reaction of the compounds used as starting material with a functional derivative of an aromatic acid according to the invention can be carried out in aqueous suspension, in aqueous-organic suspension or solution or in a solution in an inert solvent. The functional derivative of an aromatic acid according to the invention can be used as such in concentrated form or else dissolved in an organic solvent.
Particularly suitable solvents for the functional derivatives of the aromatic acids according to the invention are acetone, dioxane, benzene, chlorobenzene and toluene.
The reaction in an aqueous-organic or aqueous medium is carried out with a weakly alkaline, neutral to weakly acidic reaction, but preferably within the pH range from 7 to 3. The reaction temperature must be adapted to the reactivity of the individual starting products.
To neutralize the resulting equivalent of hydrogen halide, either an acid-binding agent, for example sodium acetate, is added to the reaction solution or suspension at the beginning, or sodium or potassium carbonate or bicarbonate in solid, powdered form or bicarbonate is added in small portions during the reaction as a concentrated aqueous solution.
Aqueous solutions of sodium or potassium hydroxide are also suitable as neutralizing agents. The addition of small amounts of a wetting agent or emulsifier to the reaction solution or suspension can accelerate the conversion reaction.
After the condensation has ended, the intermediate product can be isolated after one of the basic operations such as filtration, evaporation of the solvent, precipitation from the solution with a suitable agent and filtration, etc., or it can be used directly for azo coupling.
The diazo components are used in a conventional manner, i. H. in mineral acid solution or suspension at temperatures of z. B. 0 to 20 C diazotized.
The coupling of the diazo components with the azo components is preferably carried out in an aqueous or aqueous-organic medium with an acidic, neutral to slightly alkaline reaction and at temperatures from 0 to 30 ° C. Mixtures of water with low molecular weight alcohols, ketones or ethers can be used as the aqueous-organic medium.
The dyes obtained are isolated using one of the operations described for the intermediates.
The at least one inventive aromatic acyl radical carrying, sparingly water-soluble disperse dyes are suitable for dyeing, padding and printing of hydrophobic fibers and fiber mixtures, as well as shaped structures made of such fibers, for example fibers or structures made of cellulose ethers and esters and cellulose fully synthetic fibers or structures, e.g.
B. those made of linear polyesters, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitrile and their mixed polymers as well as mixtures of these fibers or structures, but preferably of synthetic polyamide fibers and of base-modified polyacrylonitrile fibers. The dyeings have good light, perspiration, washing, fulling, sublimation, pleating, thermosetting and sea water fastness properties.
The material to be dyed is subjected to a heat treatment during or after dyeing or padding or printing. The wetting, leveling, thickening or other textile auxiliaries commonly used can be used for dyeing, padding and printing, while the heat treatment is advantageously carried out in the presence of agents which bind hydrogen halide.
Suitable dispersants are advantageously condensation products of naphthalenesulfonic acid and formaldehyde, esters of sulfosuccinic acid, Turkish red oil, condensation products of alkylphenols with ethylene oxide, soaps and other similar dispersants in the presence or absence of colloidal protective substances such as dextrins, British gum and water-soluble proteins .
Acetate rayon, which is very sensitive at temperatures above 90 C, is preferably dyed at temperatures between 60 and 85 C, while the triacetate rayon can be dyed at 95-100 C.
The coloring of the fully synthetic. Fibers (linear aromatic polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl chloride) can be used at temperatures of 60-100 ° C. When using temperatures above 100 C, one works under pressure.
Dyeings on polyamide fibers are advantageously subjected to an alkaline aftertreatment, which significantly improves their wash fastness who can.
If necessary, the dyed fibers can be washed with warm water or with a synthetic detergent, then rinsed and dried. If necessary, the treatment with an inorganic or organic base or an alkaline soap or an alkaline cleaning agent can be carried out in one operation.
The disperse dyes are also suitable for printing artificial fibers with the aid of dispersants. It is advantageous to use alkaline, e.g. B. sodium bicarbonate printing pastes, which are also provided with the usual additives such as urea, thiourea, etc.
In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Example 1 32.8 parts of N-ethyl-N-2'-aminoethyl-amino-benzoil are dissolved in 800 parts of acetone at 20.
40 parts of 4-chloro-methylbenzene-carboxylic acid chloride are added, the mixture is heated to boiling under reflux and an aqueous solution of 30 parts of crystallized sodium acetate is slowly added dropwise. After the acylation has ended, the acetone is distilled off under reduced pressure and the residue, which is an aqueous suspension, can be used for coupling after the addition of hydrochloric acid and ice, or the acylation product can be isolated therefrom in the customary manner.
20.5 parts of 1-amino-2-chloro-4-methylsulfonylbenzene are introduced into a nitrosylsulfuric acid prepared from 100 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid and 7 parts of sodium nitrite at 15-20. The mass is stirred for 4 hours at 20, it is then loaded onto 350 parts of water and 600 parts of ice and the slight excess of nitrous acid is destroyed with amidosulfonic acid.
A solution of 32 parts of N-ethyl N- [2 '- (4 "-chloromethylbenzenecarbonyl) aminoethyl] aminobenzene in 15 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid, 50 parts of water and 15 parts of ice is added to this Dye precipitates.
It is filtered off, washed neutral with water and dried at 40 ° in a vacuum. An orange-colored powder is obtained which, in fine suspension, dyes synthetic polyamide fibers in orange, light- and wash-fast shades.
Dyes with similar properties are obtained if the 4-chloromethyl-benzene-1-carboxylic acid chloride in the dye according to Example 1 is replaced by one of the following acid halides:
3-chloromethyl-benzene-1-carboxylic acid chloride, 3-bromomethyl-benzene-1-carboxylic acid bromide, 4-bromomethyl-benzene-1-carboxylic acid bromide, 3-chloro-4-chloromethyl-benzene-1-carboxylic acid chloride, 3,5-dichloro-4 -chloromethyl-b, enzene-1-carboxylic acid chloride, 4-chloromethyl-benzene-sulfonic acid chloride. The following table contains some dyes obtainable according to the invention which are a group of the formula
EMI0003.0051
contain.
In the table they are identified by the diazo component, the azo component and the shade of the dyeings and prints on synthetic polyamide fibers in columns (I) to (III). The amino group to be reacted with a functional derivative of chloromethylbenzoic acid is underlined.
