a) H.,C-CO-CH.,-CO-O- Gruppen aufweisenden Po lymerisaten und
2z) Vinylester der Essigsäure, der Propionsäure und der Versaticsäuren; N-Hydroxymethylamide der (Meth) acrylsäure sowie deren Äther mit Cl-C8-Alkoholen, wie das N-Hydroxymethylacrylamid und der n-Butyläther des N-Hydroxymethylmethacryalamids; Hydroxyalkylester der (Meth)acrylsäure wie die ss-Hydroxyäthylester; (Meth)acrylsäure;
(Meth)acrylnitrit; (Meth)acrylamid; Vinylchlorid; Vinylidenchlorid; Butadien.

Method for covering, impregnating or gluing non-textile substrates The present invention relates to a method for covering, impregnating or gluing non-textile substrates with binder preparations made from hardenable mixtures
a) H., C-CO-CH., - CO-O groups-containing polymerizates and
b) with H3C-CO-CH2-CO-O groups with crosslinking reactable substances
and curing the mixtures, optionally using catalysts and / or heat. Similar methods have already been described.
The products made by these processes, i. H. Binder preparations are relatively low molecular weight and have a high demand for crosslinking agents; the coatings produced therewith are in need of improvement, particularly with regard to their solvent resistance.
It has been found that this disadvantage can largely be eliminated if, in the process described at the beginning, binder preparations are used in which the polymers (a) have a new, specific composition.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that binder preparations are used in which the polymers (a)
1) from 0.5 to 90, preferably from 0.5 to 50, percent of their weight of polymerized compounds of the formula H3C-CO-CH2-CO-OXO-CO-CR = CH2., Where X is a hydrocarbon radical or an oxa hydrocarbon radical each with 2 to 10 carbon atoms and R for hydrogen or a methyl group, and
2) 10 to 99.5, preferably 50 to 99.5 percent of their weight consist of polymerized other ethylenically unsaturated compounds. According to a preferred embodiment of the process according to the invention, binder preparations are used in which the polymers (a)
1) to 0.5 to 90, preferably 0.5 to 30, percent of their weight of polymerized compounds of the formula HaC-CO-CH2-CO-OXO-CO-CR = CH2, where X is a hydrocarbon radical or an oxa hydrocarbon radical each have 2 to 10 carbon atoms and R represents hydrogen or a methyl group, and
21) to 10 to 99.5, preferably 70 to 99.5 percent of their weight of polymerized C1-C2o-alkyl esters of (meth) acrylic acid and / or copolymerized styrene and
22) consist of 0 to 29.5, preferably 5 to 20, percent of their weight of polymerized further ethylenically unsaturated compounds.
The following can be said in detail about the components of the polymers (a):
1) Particularly suitable compounds of the formula H3C-CO-CH2-CO-OXO-CO-CR = CH2 are those in which X is - (C "H2n - (n = integer from 2 to 6), for example the Esters of ethanediol (1,2), butanediol (1,4) and hexanediol (1,6) derived from acetoacetic acid and (meth) acrylic acid Mixtures of various compounds defined by the general formula are also suitable .
These compounds can be produced in a simple manner, for example, in such a way that the underlying diol - or the corresponding epoxy - is first reacted with (meth) acrylic acid to form the half-ester and in this the free hydroxyl group is then converted into the acetoacetic ester group with diketene.
2) Other ethylenically unsaturated compounds are, for example, the following:
21) Ci-C, o-alkyl esters, preferably Ci-Ca-alkyl esters, of (meth) acrylic acid and / or styrene. Examples of alkyl esters that should be mentioned are the methyl ester of methacrylic acid and the ethyl, n-propyl, i-propyl, n-butyl, i-butyl,
t-butyl and 2-ethylhexyl esters of acrylic acid. Mixtures of different esters of (meth) acrylic acid are also suitable.
2z) vinyl esters of acetic acid, propionic acid and versatic acids; N-hydroxymethylamides of (meth) acrylic acid and their ethers with C1-C8 alcohols, such as N-hydroxymethylacrylamide and the n-butyl ether of N-hydroxymethylmethacryalamide; Hydroxyalkyl esters of (meth) acrylic acid such as the β-hydroxyethyl esters; (Meth) acrylic acid;
(Meth) acrylonitrite; (Meth) acrylamide; Vinyl chloride; Vinylidene chloride; Butadiene. Mixtures of different monomers are also suitable.
The production of the polymers (a) can be carried out by relevant customary methods.
A suitable method consists, for example, in polymerizing the monomers defined under 1) and 2) in solution or in dispersion with polymerization initiators which provide free radicals - if desired, using the customary auxiliaries as well.
Another suitable method consists, for example, in starting the production of the polymers not from the monomers defined under 1) per se, but from the corresponding half-esters of the diols with (meth) acrylic acid. According to this method, the half-esters with the under 2)
defined monomers and then in the polymers the half-esters - and possibly also other - hydroxyl groups wholly or partially converted into acetoacetic ester groups with diketene (for such polymer-analogous reactions see e.g. German Patent 940 680).
In addition to the specific polymers (a) with H3C-CO-CH2-CO-O groups, the binder preparations to be used according to the invention contain substances (b) which can be converted with crosslinking. These can be the usual ones, e.g.
B. Aldenhyde, such as formaldehyde; Complex images such as polyvalent metal ions; Polyamines such as hexamethylene diamine; Hydrozo compounds, such as hydrazine and polycarboxylic acid hydrazides (for such crosslinkers cf., for example, German patents 835 809, 910 594 and 940 680, French patents 1379 423, 1) / B> 403 437 and 1 403 460).
The binder preparations themselves can be prepared in übli cher manner and in the usual consistency, for. B. as solutions in organic solvents (such as aromatics, e.g. toluene and xylene; esters, e.g. ethyl and butyl acetate; ether esters, e.g. methyl glycolacetate; ketones, e.g. methyl ethyl ketone; alcohols, e.g. n-butanol and i-butanol or mixtures of such solvents) or as dispersions in water or
aqueous media. When using organic solvents, it is generally advisable, for economic reasons, to use the same solvents as are desired in the binder preparations in the preparation of the polymers (a) if the work is to be carried out in the presence of organic solvents .
The binder preparations can contain the customary auxiliaries or additives. Mention should be made, for example, of plasticizers, pigments, agents for improving the leveling and other binders, such as phenolic resins, amino resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, cellulose derivatives and acrylate resins.
The binder preparations can also be used by customary methods, whereby the following are to be emphasized: the production of coatings, for example as paintwork or cast films, the production of impregnations, for example for the purpose of stiffening paper, and the production of bonds, for example in the case of laminates .
After application, the hardenable constituents of B are prepared in the form of agents - if necessary with the use of catalysts and / or heat - hardened. In this case, the relevant conventional catalysts can be used, in particular basic substances such as pyridine, trimethylamine, triethylamine and sodium methylate. When using heat, the temperatures should expediently not exceed 220 C.
The parts and percentages given in the examples are based on weight. Example 1 The work is carried out in a polymerization vessel which is provided with a reflux condenser, inert gas feed line, thermometer, stirrer, feed device and temperature control.
The following is introduced into the vessel: 500 parts of a solution (L) of 204 parts (1 mol) of the reaction product of diketene and butanediol (1,4) monoacrylate (butanediol acrylate acetylacetate), 944 parts (8 mol) of tertiary butyl acrylate, 1148 Parts of ethyl glycol acetate, 29 parts of tert-dodecyl mercaptan and 11.5 parts of azodiisobutyronitrile. The reaction mixture is heated to 85 ° C., whereupon a further 1836.5 parts of the solution (L) are added over the course of one hour at this temperature.
Polymerization is then carried out for a further 8 hours at 85 ° C. and then brought to room temperature.
10 parts of the polymer solution thus obtained are mixed with 0.1 part of triethylamine and 5 parts of an 8% solution of formaldehyde in n-butanol and poured onto a non-textile, absorbent substrate. The impregnation becomes practically tack-free at 20 C in about 8 hours; it is insoluble in ethyl glycol acetate, dimethylformamide, ethanol, acetone, 10% aqueous NaOH solution and 10% aqueous acetic acid solution. The impregnation is also characterized by low water permeability.
Example 2 The polymerization vessel from example 1 is used.
The following are introduced into the vessel: 12 parts of butane diol acrylate acetylacetate, 44 parts of styrene, 22 parts of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, 20 parts of n-butoxymethyl methacrylamide, 2 parts of acrylic acid, 41 parts of xylene, 41 parts of n-butanol, 1 part of tert-dodecyl mercaptan and 0.4 part of azodiisobutyric acid nitrile,
whereupon heated to 90 ° C. with stirring and the reaction mixture is initially held at this temperature for two hours. Then 0.4 parts of azodiisobutyronitrile are added at one hour intervals (a total of 6 times). After the last addition, polymerization is continued for a further 5 hours at 99 ° C. and then brought to room temperature.
200 parts of the polymer solution thus obtained are mixed with 10.6 parts of a 30% strength formaldehyde solution in n-butanol and 0.5 part of dimethylethanolamine. This mixture is poured onto a chipboard and left to dry for 72 hours.
The result is a non-sticky, soft coating; it is insoluble in butanol / xylene 1: 1, methyl glycol acetate and dimethylformamide. After brief heating to 180 C, the coating becomes hard and resistant to water and aqueous alkalis. Example 3 The polymerization vessel from example 1 is used.
The following are introduced into the vessel: 15 parts of butanediol acrylate acetylacetate, 40 parts of vinyl propionate, 45 parts of vinyl acetate, 50 parts of n-butanol, 50 parts of xylene, 1.5 parts of tert-dodecyl mercaptan and 0.4 parts of azodiisobutonitrile, whereupon the Reaction material is heated to 90 ° C. while stirring and passing a stream of nitrogen over it and initially maintained at this temperature for 2 hours. Then 0.4 parts of azodiisobutyronitrile are added at intervals of one hour (a total of 8 times).
After the last addition, polymerization is continued for a further 5 hours at 90 ° C. and then brought to room temperature. According to DIN 53 183, the polymer content is 50.4%.
1 part of formaldehyde in the form of a 30% solution in n-butanol and 0.5 part of dimethylethanolamine are added to 100 parts of the polymer solution. A sheet of filter paper is impregnated with this mixture and left at room temperature for 60 hours. The result is an arch that is practically impermeable to water.
Example 4 100 parts of a 55% solution of a copolymer composed of 5 parts of butanediol acrylate acetylacetate, 65 parts of ethyl acrylate, 27 parts of methyl methacrylate, 5 parts of acrylamide, 2 parts of vinyl propionate and 1 part of acrylic acid in a mixture of equal parts Xylene and n-butanol are mixed with 0,
5 parts of formaldehyde in the form of a 30% strength butanolic solution and 0.001 part of trimethylamine. This mixture is applied in the form of a coating to a glass plate and left for 2 days at room temperature. The coating obtained has a layer thickness of 55. it can be removed from the glass plate and thus represents a cast film that is completely clear, completely tack-free and very elastic.
It has a high resilience (elasticity) and is only slightly swollen by dimethylformamide, xylene and acetone. Example 5 100 parts of a 53% xylene-butanolic (1:
l) Solution of a copolymer of 10 parts of butanediol acrylate acetylacetate, 30 parts of butyl acrylate, 30 parts of ethylhexyl acrylate, 20 parts of styrene and 10 parts of acrylonitrile are mixed with 1 part of formaldehyde (in the form of a 30% solution in butanol) and 0,
2 parts of triethylamine. Cast films are produced from this mixture as in Example 4; they are insoluble in dimethylformamide, xylene and acetone. Example 6 A polymerization vessel is used which is provided with a stirrer, reflux condenser, inert gas feed line, temperature control and two feed devices.
In the vessel, a mixture of 90 parts of water, 0.52 parts of the sodium salt of a wetting agent (prepared by adding 25 moles of ethylene oxide to 1 mole of isooctylphenol and subsequent esterification with sulfuric acid) and 0.15 part of Turkish red oil is heated to 85 ° C. and on this Temperature held.
This is followed by the addition (in one pour) of 20 parts of a 3% strength solution of potassium persulfate in water and (within 2 hours) of a mixture of 160 parts of water, 0.2 parts of potassium persulfate, 14.4 parts of the aforementioned wetting agent, 0.9 parts of Turkish red oil, 20 parts of butanediol acrylate acetylacetate and 180 parts of n-butyl acrylate. After the abovementioned mixture has been added, polymerization is carried out for a further 1 hour at 95 ° C. and then brought to room temperature.
100 parts of the dispersion thus obtained are brought to a pH of 7 with dimethylethanolamine and. mixed with either (a) 0.65 parts of formaldehyde (in the form of a 30% aqueous solution) or (b) 1.3 parts of glyoxal or (c)
6 parts of a urea resin containing N-methylol groups. The three binder preparations are ideal for producing water-insoluble coatings. (Curing conditions 120 C for 10 minutes). Example 7 The polymerization vessel from Example 1 is used.
A mixture of 324 parts of water, 0.25 part of the sodium salt of C13-C17-alkylsulfonic acid, 26 parts of butanediol acrylate acetylacetate and 100 parts of styrene is heated to 70.degree. C. in the vessel.
At this temperature, a solution of 25 parts of water, 0.315 part of potassium persulfate and 0.315 part of sodium pyrosulfate is added. 30 minutes after the addition of the above solution, a mixture of 2.2 parts of C13-C17 alkylsulphonate and 16 parts of water is introduced over the course of 21/2 hours, after which polymerization is continued for 1 / z hour at 75 ° C. and then brought to room temperature.
The stable polymer dispersion obtained in this way is mixed with 3.4 parts of formaldehyde (in the form of a 30% strength aqueous solution). This binder preparation is used to produce coatings on chipboard panels; the coatings become hard when they dry. Example 8 The polymerization vessel from Example 1 is used.
90 parts of butanediol (1,4) monoacrylate, 210 parts of styrene, 162 parts of ethylglycol acetate, 9 parts of tert-dodecyl mercaptan and 1 part of azodiisobutyronitrile are introduced into the vessel. With constant stirring and passing nitrogen over it, the mixture is heated to 90 ° C. and kept at this temperature. After 2 hours, you begin to add 1 part of azodiisobutyronitrile every hour (a total of five times). After the last addition, polymerization is continued at 90 ° C. for a further 6 hours.
2.4 parts of triethylamine are stirred into the copolymer solution thus obtained, whereupon - at 90 ° C. - 190 parts of diketene are added with constant stirring over a period of 2 hours. The ongoing reaction is strongly exothermic, so that cooling is necessary at times. When the reaction has subsided, the mixture is stirred for a further hour at 90 ° C. and then brought to room temperature.
190 parts of a 50% formaldehyde solution (in n-butanol) are stirred into the polymer solution obtained in this way. The binding agent preparation is used to make coatings. After hardening (at room temperature in 24 hours) they are scratch-resistant, tack-free and insoluble in organic solvents. Example 9 The polymerization vessel from Example 1 is used.
The following are introduced into the vessel: 60 parts of butanediol (1,4) monoacrylate, 90 parts of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, 150 parts of styrene, 162 parts of ethylglycol acetate, 9 parts of tert-dodecyl mercaptan and 1 part of azodiisobutyric acid nitrile. With constant stirring and passing nitrogen over it, the mixture is heated to 90 ° C. and kept at this temperature. After 2 hours, the hourly addition of 1 part of azo-diisobutyric acid nitrile begins, which is carried out a total of 5 times.
Polymerization is then carried out at 90 ° C. for 6 hours.
3 parts of dimethylethanolamine are added to the copolymer solution obtained. Slowly and under constant stirring 35 parts of freshly distilled diketene are then stirred in over the course of 2 hours.
The solution obtained is divided into six equal portions, each of which is mixed with different amounts of formaldehyde (dissolved in butanol) given in the table. The pot life and the time until it dries through (after application to a glass plate) is determined on the individual mixtures obtained in this way, as well as - after application to a deep-drawn sheet and in each case after curing for 3 days at 20 ° C. or of 30 minutes at 120'C - the pendulum hardness (DIN 53157) and the Erichsen value (DIN 53156). The measured values are given in the table.
The resistance of the coatings to ethyl acetate is tested as a measure of the crosslinking. The results obtained are also listed in the table.
