Le dessin annexé représente, à titre d'exemple, une forme d'exécution de l'objet de l'invention la fig. 1 est une vue de face d'une machine à recti fier comprenant cette forme d'exécution ; la fig. 2 est une vue en plan correspondant à la fig. 1 ; la fi-. 3 est une coupe suivant III-III de la fig. 2 la fig. 4 est une vue de côté correspondant à la fig. 1 ;
Ce couple engendre une vitesse de glissement Nl. La plaque d'appui fixe facilite l'obtention de cette vitesse de glissement. De cette façon. un couple résistant est imposé à la pièce. et engen dre un glissement continu. Ce glissement améliore la con- centricité de l'alésage rectifié avec la surface extérieure de la pièce;
Machine for grinding an internal surface of revolution of an annular part The present invention relates to a machine for grinding an internal surface of revolution of an annular part.
In grinding the internal bore of an annular part, significant problems are encountered with regard to the retention of the workpiece, as well as the loading and unloading of this part in and out of its support. For example, if the workpiece is held by means of jaws, all the irregularities of the exterior surface of the workpiece are reproduced on its interior surface. In addition, the contact of such a jaw or a roller with the outer surface of the workpiece risks leaving marks on the latter. Another difficulty encountered is that, in the case where the outer diameter of the part to be ground varies within wide limits from one part to another, it is very difficult to center the part with respect to the grinding wheel in such a way. to obtain a precise rectification.
If these problems do not play a preponderant role when the tolerance on the finish, the diameter and the ovality of the external surface is large enough and does not present a great importance for the use of the part, they take on a great importance if the tolerance allowed on these various points is very low for the internal bore. This is for example the case with the outer race of a ball bearing. This means that, if the part is supported through its outer surface, it is very difficult to achieve good quality for the inner surface.
The present invention avoids the various drawbacks of known devices.
The machine forming the subject of the invention, comprising a mechanism for loading and unloading the workpiece, is characterized by a support element which can be placed around the workpiece with a small clearance, a plate of 'fixed support against which comes into contact a radial surface of the workpiece, means for supplying a viscous fluid in the clearance between the support element and the workpiece, and means for rotating the support element which drives the part in rotation by the viscosity of the fluid.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, FIG. 1 is a front view of a grinding machine comprising this embodiment; fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1; the fi-. 3 is a section along III-III of FIG. 2 in fig. 4 is a side view corresponding to FIG. 1;
fig. 5 is a section on a larger scale along V-V of FIG. 1, and fig. 6 is a view of members shown in FIG. 2. FIG. 1 shows a grinding machine 10. It comprises a frame 11, having a front surface 12, substantially vertical. On this front surface are mounted a workpiece carrier assembly 13 and a loading and unloading mechanism 14. An inlet chute 15 and an outlet chute 16 are also fixed on the front face 12.
The loading and unloading mechanism 14 comprises a disc 17, mounted to rotate on a hollow shaft 18. The latter is disposed horizontally and longitudinally in the frame 11, and it protrudes outside the front surface 12. The disc 17 comprises three locations, 19, 21 and 22, for the workpieces, arranged at 1200 around the hollow axis 18. Location 19, for example, is formed by a partially circular notch; an annular plate 23 is mounted around the edge thereof; two opposing resilient fingers 24 and 25 extend, internally to the notch, towards the front surface 12 of the frame; these elongated fingers are better represented in FIG. 3, on which they are marked with 24 'and 25'. An axis 26 starts from the front surface 12 of the frame.
At its outer end is keyed an arm 27 which carries at its lower end a large pad 28. The latter has a substantially rectangular configuration and is large enough to enter the location 19 and occupy a significant part of it. , without however touching the fingers 24 and 25. The location 21 is shown in a position of covering the workpiece holder device 13. On the front surface 12 of the frame, is also fixed a bearing 29, horizontal, elongated, in which is mounted a shaft 31. The latter is horizontal and substantially parallel to the surface 12, and it extends. cantilevered, far from landing 29.
The shaft 31 is located outside the plane of the disc 17 of the loading and unloading device 14; it is provided, at its free end, with a U-shaped pressure member 32. The latter, due to its shape, comprises two fingers 33 and 34 spaced apart so that they match the opening of the 'location 21 and with the device tif workpiece 13, as described below.
The hollow shaft 18 carries in its bore an axis 35 which extends outside the disc 17. An arm 36, fixed to the axis 35, carries at its outer end a shoe 37, similar to the shoe 28 associated with the. arm 27. This pad is formed to fit closely with the opening of location 22. without coming into contact with the resilient fingers. The arm 36 must of course have a shape such that it does not meet the disc 17 or the edge of the location 22, even when the pad 37 is inside the opening. Cams 38, 39 and 41 are mounted on the periphery of the disc 17. These cams are located respectively halfway between the locations 19 and 21. 21 and 22 and 22 and 19.
A microswitch 42. mounted on the front surface 12 of the frame 11. comprises a control finger 43. arranged so as to be engaged by one of the cams 38. 39 or 41, when the said 17 rotates around the shaft 18. .
We now refer to FIG. 2 which is a plan view of the grinding machine 10. It can be seen that an electric motor 44 is mounted on the frame 11. on one side of the axis of the workpiece holder device 13. This motor is connected by means of belts 45 to a pulley 46. The bearing 29 is clearly shown in this view, as is the shaft 31 which rotates in this bearing.
At the front of the surface 12 of the frame is disposed a hydraulically controlled cylinder 47. which comprises a piston rod 48 capable, under certain conditions, of penetrating into openings of the disc 17 of the loading and unloading device. so as to block the latter in position This figure shows the pad 37 on its arm 36 particularly clearly. It is in turn mounted on the axis 35. The shaft 26, which carries the arm 27 and the pad 28.
An annular workpiece 49 is held in position by the workpiece holder device 13, the interior surface of which must be ground by means of an abrasive grinding wheel 53 mounted on a spindle 54. The latter is. of course. mounted on a known tool holder head. which allows its rotation and its lateral and longitudinal displacement with respect to the axis of the rest of the machine. The workpiece is held in a chuck 55. the smooth bore 56 of which is only slightly larger than the outer surface 51 of the workpiece 49. as detailed below.
The mandrel bore has a clearance groove 57. located near the bottom; this allows a backing plate 58 to rest against the bottom of the mandrel. if needed. The support plate 58 has substantially the shape of a disc, but it comprises a shoulder 59 which defines a peripheral rim 61, directed towards the front, with which comes into contact the inner end of the workpiece. The support plate 58 is mounted on one end of a rod 62, the other end of which is fixed to a support 63.
The latter, as seen in fig. 2. surrounds the pulley 46 and it is fixed to the side of the frame 11, so that the rod 62 is immobilized against any longitudinal or rotational movement with respect to the frame 11.
The rod 62 is supported in the bore of a hollow shaft 64 which is connected at one end to the mandrel 55, and which is mounted in a bore 65 of the frame 11. The end of the shaft 64, opposite the mandrel 55, comprises splines 66 which extend over a significant length of the shaft. These splines mesh with grooves 67 formed on the inside of the pulley 46. In this way, power is transmitted from the belts 45 to the hollow shaft 64 via the pulley 46. The shaft 64 comprises a flange 68, directed outwardly, which slides exactly in a bore 69, so that the flange 68 and. the bore 69 constitutes the piston and the cylinder of a linear hydraulic booster.
A suitable ball bearing 71. mounted in the frame I1. supports pulley 46. The surface of bore 65, which extends through frame 11, is provided with a series of shallow pockets 72.. to which are connected passages 73 which bring oil from a main duct 74. In this way. the hollow shaft 64 is supported on hydrostatic supports. At the top of the frame. is mounted a hydraulic valve 75, which is connected to the opposite ends of the bore 69 by passages 76 and 77. The oil is thus brought on each side of the glue 68. so as to control the longitudinal displacement of the 'tree 64.
A conduit 78. connected to a source, not shown. viscous oil under pressure. is connected to a passage 79. located longitudinally through the rod 62 and terminated by a transverse passage 81. The latter terminates externally in a clearance groove 82. formed in the inner surface of the hollow shaft 64 and the length of which is substantially equal to the relative stroke of the collar 68 and the bore 69. functions as a piston and cylinder. This groove 82 is therefore always in communication with a radial passage 83 formed in the hollow shaft 64 and connected to a longitudinal step 84.
This in turn ends in a rn.dial passage 85 formed at the rear of the mandrel 55. The p, issade 85 is connected to an annular passage 86 which extends entirely around the axis of the mandrel 55. The passade 86 is connected to a plurality of small passages 87, which terminate on the inner surface 56 of the bore of the chuck 55. Hydrostatic lubrication is thus obtained between the surface 56 and the outer surface 51 of the workpiece 49. The frame 11 has a bore 88 in which the mandrel 55 can be housed when the hollow shaft 64 moves to the left.
It is seen in fig. 4 the way in which a support flange for the inlet chute 15 is fixed to the frame 11, the main part of the chute being shown in dotted lines. A certain number of adjustment screws 89, 91 and 92 make it possible to adjust the chute with precision with respect to the reception location 19. The axis 26 is supported in a sliding manner. in bosses 93. and 94, located on the side of the frame 11; it is controlled by a coupling 95. which attacks a rod 96 protruding from the side of the axis 26. The coupling 95 is operated by a hydraulic cylinder 97 fixed to the top of the frame 11.
It can be seen in FIG. 5, that the pin 31 is slidably supported in the bearing 29. This pin is provided, in its intermediate part, with a finger 97 directed upwards and a finger 98 directed downwards. The upper finger carries a shoe 99, made of hard metal, arranged so as to be able to be attacked by the piston rod 101 of a hydraulic cylinder mounted in the frame 11. An adjusting screw 102 is fixed in a boss 103 located on the front surface 12 of the frame; the head of this screw occupies a position such that it can be touched by the pad 99 of the finger 97, so as to limit the outward movement due to the action of the piston rod.
The lower finger 98 carries a small block 104, which has a bore 105 in which is slidably mounted an udder 106. The latter has a rod 107 which extends outwardly to the rear of the block 104 and occupies a position in which it comes into contact with a rod 108, made of hard metal, directed forward and fixedly mounted in the frame 11. Inside the bore 105 is a res out 109. placed between the piston 106 and a plug 111 screwed into the inlet of the bore 105. It can also be seen that the pressure device 32. in the form of a U, comprises a finger 34 directed towards the rear.
Fig. 6 shows the mechanism for changing the position of the loading and unloading mechanism 14. Inside the frame, the hollow shaft 18 is keyed with a ratchet wheel 112 having only three teeth 113, 114 and 115. These teeth are attacked successively by a pawl 116. which pivots on a block 117 by means of a pin 118. The pawl 116 is applied towards the axis of the 'shaft 18, by a spring 119 placed between the outer end of the pawl and the block 117. The pawl has a single square tooth 121. which engages the teeth of the ratchet pinion 112. The block 117 is pivotally mounted on the 'axis 18; under certain conditions. it pivots under the action of the piston rod 122 of a cylinder 123, the latter being visible in FIGS. 1, 2 and 4.
Fig. 2 shows how the axis 26 is connected to the hitch 95. It is also seen in this figure that the shaft 35 is provided with a trigger mechanism 124, in the central part of the frame 11. A coupling 125 is actuated. by the same cylinder as the coupling 95, that is to say the cylinder 97. The two couplings are pulled towards the rear of the frame by springs 126 and 127. The coupling 125 is connected to the axis 35 so as to move the shoe 37 rearwardly simultaneously with the forward movement of the shaft 26 and of its shoe 28. The coupling 125 is connected, as can be seen in particular in FIG. 4, to a block 128. by a rod. The block 128 can slide on the shaft 35.
A trigger finger 129, forming part of the trigger 124, pivots in a slot at the end of the shaft 35. This finger pivots under the action of a leaf spring 131, which normally maintains it in a position. such that a portion 130 extends above the surface of the shaft 35 and prevents the shaft from slipping away from the block 128. In this way, when the hitch and the block move to the left , they take shaft 35 with them. An inclined surface, located at the left end of the trigger finger 129, then strikes a rod 132, which causes this end to be raised upwards, and the other end to be lowered. As a result, the part 130 disappears in the slot in the shaft 35.
This allows a spring 133 to act on it and push it to the right. Therefore, the axis 26 can remain in its position of moving to the right, while the axis 35 returns to the right immediately instead of remaining to the left. This allows the shoe 37 to leave the location 22 of the loading and unloading mechanism, so that the main body 17 can change position, while the shoe 28 remains pressed against the workpiece which rests on the fingers 24 and 25. Keeping the shoe 28 in place against the workpiece prevents the following pieces, contained in the chute 15, from rolling down into the loading position.
In other words, the shoe 28 acts as an unlocking mechanism, allowing a new part to roll and take place in front of the loading location 19. ready for. be pushed on the fingers 24 and 25 by the pad 28.
In the preferred embodiment, the oil sent to the workpiece carrier has a viscosity of 600 W and its pressure is 6.3 bar. The backing plate and the chuck are combined with the workpiece so that the latter is slowed down by 20 to 40 rpm in relation to the speed of rotation of the chuck. This drives the part, due to the viscosity of the thick oil. The fluid is brought through a set of hydrostatic constrictions formed by the passages 87 which are of small diameter. The clearance between the mandrel and the part is of the order of 0.025 to 0.075 mm. The hydrostatic support thus obtained tends to center the part in the mandrel. When the grinding is in progress, a torque is applied to the part 49 by the grinding wheel 53.
This torque generates a sliding speed Nl. The fixed backing plate makes it easier to achieve this sliding speed. In this way. a resistant torque is imposed on the part. and generates a continuous slip. This sliding improves the concentricity of the ground bore with the exterior surface of the part;
it also significantly eliminates eccentricity and bearing defects in the mandrel and the workpiece holder. The chuck can also accommodate moderate dimensional variations of the outer diameter, which allows precise inner grinding by the method which includes determining the final position of the grinding wheel by dressing it in a known plane followed by its lateral advance of a known quantity. This precise method of grinding is of course only possible if the workpiece is exactly centered. High speeds of the workpiece carrier can be achieved in the conventional direction. that is to say with the part turning in the opposite direction to that of the grinding wheel. Rectification in the same direction is also possible.
The chuck operates at relatively low oil pressure. which facilitates the conservation of the oil. However. the load capacity of the mandrel can be increased by increasing the oil pressure at the expense of oil consumption. This mandrel has an appreciable centering action until a sliding speed is created between the workpiece and the mandrel. This sliding speed is due to the braking action of the support plate 58 on the workpiece, and also. of course. to the action of the grinding wheel on the inner surface of the workpiece.
The operation of the machine according to the invention, set out below. will be better understood in the light of the above description.
The parts to be machined. which enter the machine, roll and descend in the chute 15. They remain stacked against each other, and the lower part rests against the edge of the pad 28 which prevents it from continuing its course and leaving the chute. At the start of a cycle, shaft 26 is pulled back by cylinder 97; a new part 49 can therefore descend from the chute and be placed in alignment with the location 19 of the loading and unloading mechanism 14. The cylinder 97 is then actuated in the other direction, so that the shaft 26 moves. to the right (fig. 4); the shoe 28 pushes the part on the fingers 24 and 25 and remains in this position, so as to hold the part on the fingers and to prevent it from falling.
The other workpieces are stopped at the top of the chute and cannot ash because they meet the edge of shoe 28. When a workpiece is in loading location 19, cylinder 123 is actuated; therefore, udder rod 122 acts, through pawl 116, to rotate ratchet wheel 112 and hence hollow shaft 18. This causes disc 17 to rotate 120o, and location called 19 in FIG. 1 then comes to the position previously occupied by location 21. At this time, the workpiece is aligned with the chuck 55 which is in its far left position, completely inside the 'bore 88 of the frame.
As a result, the backing plate 58 has its glue rette or leading edge in the plane of the outer edge of the mandrel 55. The workpiece is aligned with these two elements. Oil is then admitted from the left side of the collar 68, so that the hollow shaft 64 moves to the right and drives the mandrel 55 with it. This latter envelops the part. At this time, a cylinder actuates the piston rod 101 which moves forward, meets the finger 97, and rotates the shaft 31, so that the fingers 33 and 34 move inwardly through the shaft. 'opening of the disc 17 and press on the outer end of the part 49. The latter is thus pressed strongly against the support plate 58. The motor 44 runs continuously and rotates the pulley 46 by means of the belts 45.
The pulley itself drives the hollow shaft 64 in rotation, via the splines 67 and 68. The mandrel 55 therefore rotates continuously. whether or not it is in the working position. and whether or not it has received a workpiece. The oil is admitted on the inner surface of the mandrel, by the following circuit: it arrives from the conduit 78, follows the passage 79. the passage 81. the groove 82, the passages 83. 84 and 85, then emerges through the capillary orifices 87 on the inside face of the mandrel. A hydrodynamic and hydrostatic film is immediately established between the inner surface 56 of the mandrel 55 and the outer surface 61 of the part 49.
The grinding wheel 53 moves inward and performs the operation of grinding the interior surface 52 of the workpiece. in a known manner. When the rectification is complete. the mandrel 55 is returned to the bore 88. by the oil admission through the passage 77 behind the flange 68. which causes the displacement of the hollow shaft 64 to the left of FIG. 3. Fingers 24 'and 25' remain in the workpiece and the hand will hold in location 21 even after removal of chuck 55.
The loading and unloading device 14 again rotates 120,), under the action of the cylinder 123. and this location 21. with the part considered. then takes the place occupied by the location 22 in FIG. 1. ie the unloading location. At the moment. the axis 35 is moved to the left by the cylinder 97 and consequently the shoe 37 pushes the workpiece out of the elastic fingers and causes it to fall into the chute 16 from where it is discharged.
The pad 28 must remain pressed against the workpiece. to prevent the introduction into the mechanism of new parts coming from the chute 15 while, simultaneously, the pad 37 must be withdrawn from the location as soon as it has pushed the part out of the fingers. In fact, the shoe 37 cannot remain in the location during the change of position of the loading and unloading mechanism. Means are therefore provided for the almost immediate return of the pin 35 to its initial position, while the pin 26 remains in its position to the right, against the part which is in the loading location. This is achieved by contact of block 128 against trigger 129, which drives axis 35 to the left.
When the finger 129 meets the rod 132, its end 130 enters the slot in the pin 35. The latter is then free to slide in the opposite direction, under the pressure of the spring 133. Thus, the pad 37 is immediately withdrawn. , while the pad 28 remains in place.
We see on fi g. 5 that the last movement of the fingers 33 and 34 is controlled by the adjustment of the screw 102. The spring 109 absorbs the shock due to the rapid rotation of the shaft 31; therefore, the fingers can press against the workpiece with a predetermined pressure. The screw 102 is normally adjusted so as to act only as a stroke limiter, the compression of the spring 109, which is regulated by the plug 119, determining the pressure of the fingers 33 and 34 against the end of the part.
