Hand-held electrical device, including toothbrush
The present invention relates to a hand-held electrical device, in particular a toothbrush, comprising a housing forming a handle, made in two attached parts, enclosing a motor and a source of electrical energy.
This device is characterized by the fact that the rear end part of the housing is constituted by a sleeve of insulating material lined internally with a metal sheath, also in the form of a sleeve, in which the energy source is housed, this metallic sheath playing the role of both means of protection of the source of electrical energy and of electrical conductor, its bottom being in contact with one of the poles of the energy source while its front edge is in contact, when both parts of the housing are assembled, with at least one metal blade transmitting current to the motor.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial section of an electric toothbrush.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the brush proper, mounted on the apparatus shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of part of the toothbrush, with partial section, taken in a plane perpendicular to that of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a detail.
Fig. 5 is a section taken along the line V-V of FIG. 3, on a larger scale.
Fig. 6 is a section taken along line VI-VI of FIG. 3, and
fig. 7 is a plan view, from below, of a detail on the same scale as FIG. 5.
The toothbrush shown comprises a plastic bowl, forming a handle, made of two attached parts 1 and 2. These two parts are assembled by screwing in 3, using a large pitch thread, which makes it possible to assemble and disassemble them quickly, by a relative rotary movement of less than 3600. A seal 4 is interposed between the two parts of the housing.
The rear part of the casing, in the form of a socket, made of insulating material, is lined internally with a metal sheath 5, also in the form of a socket, inside which are housed two dry cells 6. The bottom of one of the batteries 6 is in electrical contact with the bottom of the socket 5, by means of a short helical spring 7 interposed between these two elements. Thus, the sheath 5 serves both as a protective member for the batteries 6 and as an electrical conductor.
The motor of the device, designated by 8, is housed in the front part 1 of the housing, also made of plastic. I1 drives a shaft 9, by means of a reduction mechanism transforming its rotary movement into a reciprocating movement, a mechanism known per se and foreign to the present invention. The shaft 9 is intended to receive brushes such as the brush 11 of FIG. 2; it carries a pin 12 engaging in a notch of the brush 11. Thus, the latter is made angularly integral with the shaft 9 and oscillates with it.
The motor 8 is held applied against axial stops 1a and 1b of the housing 1 by means of a resilient washer 13, annular, having outer ears 13a bent at right angles, with the aid of which it is fixed to the housing 1 , by screws 14 and 15. This washer 13 is applied against an intermediate part 16, of insulating material, forming a spacer, in which is engaged a cylindrical extension 17 of the motor 8 constituting the nose thereof. The motor is also locked using a radial screw 18, taking in part 1 of the housing, which applies it against two internal ribs 1c of the housing.
The washer 13 also has two outer tabs 13 b, cut out, bent at right angles, constituting two elastic blades coming into contact with the front edge of the part 5, which, for this purpose, is flared at Sa; in this way, the washer 13 also constitutes a component of the electric motor supply circuit, as will be indicated below.
The toothbrush shown is further provided with an electric switch comprising a control button 19 sliding outside the housing, in a groove 20 formed in the thickness of part 1 thereof. This button has two protrusions 1 9a hooking, in a dovetail assembly, to the housing 1.
An elastic contact blade 21 is housed between the two projections 19a of the button 19 (FIGS. 5 to 7); it has two lateral lugs 21a introduced into two recesses 22 made in the projections 19a of the button 19. Thus, the blade 21 is integral with this button and follows its longitudinal movements: when the button occupies the closed position, shown in FIGS. 1 and 5, the blade 21 is in contact both with the screw 18 for fixing the motor and with the screw 15 for fixing the washer 13. Thus, the electrical connection is ensured between one of the poles of the batteries 6 and the mass of the motor with which the locking screw 18 is in contact. The other pole of the batteries 6, designated by 23 in FIG. 1, is in contact with a supply pad, not shown, housed in the nose 17 of the engine.
I1 should be noted that the switch does not require any opening in the housing, so that there is no risk of constituting a cause of non-sealing thereof.
As a variant, the batteries 6 could be replaced by an electric accumulator.
It should be noted that the invention is not limited to toothbrushes, but that it can be applied to all hand-held electrical devices such as massage devices, electric razors or even household appliances.
