Fig. 15 und 16).
Device for closing and folding the end faces of filled packs
The invention relates to a device for closing and folding the end faces of filled packaging tubes made of thermoplastic wrapping material by means of welding jaws and folding members.
To close the two end faces of filled packaging tubes containing, for example, biscuits or the like, the previous approach was to first press and weld the end of the tube using a pair of welding jaws, then fold the weld seam and fold the protruding flaps and glue them to the end face . In this way, particularly in the case of packs with a round cross-section, unsightly and therefore undesirable folds were created on the edges of the end face of the pack.
The aim of the invention is to create a device which allows the folding process to be better influenced and thereby to enable more aesthetically pleasing folds. It has been shown that the folding process can be improved by suitable modification of the device even in the case of packs with a square or rectangular cross section.
The invention consists in that pre-folders are provided which, before the action of the welding and folding members, fold the same over a predetermined partial area of the pack cross-section around the pack contents at two opposite points of the pack for the purpose of the end of the pipe protruding over the contents in a longitudinal plane to give a widening shape towards the end of the hose.
In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the device according to the invention are shown, and the various phases of the folding process are explained on the basis of the same.
Show it:
Fig. 1 the plan view and
2 shows the side view of a filled packing tube of round cross-section with the pre-folders attached to two folding plates before the tube is encompassed,
3 to 12 different phases of the welding and folding process on the packaging tube according to FIGS. 1 and 2, also in plan view and in side view,
13 shows the top view and
14 shows the side view of a filled packing tube with a square cross-section, with the pre-folders attached to two folding plates before the tube is encompassed, and FIG
15 and 16 show the top view and side view of the same hose with folding metal sheets resting against the hose.
In Figs. 1 and 2, 1 is shown with a round cross-section packaging tube, the content of which, for. B. a biscuit stack, indicated by boundary lines 2. On both sides of the hose 1, arc-shaped folding plates 3 serving as transport clamps are arranged on holders (not shown), the curvature of which is selected so that their entire surface can lie opposite one another on the circumference of the hose 1. The so-called pre-folders 4 are arranged on the two end faces of the folding plates 3.
These are segment-shaped projections which are intended, when the folding metal sheets 3 are pressed against the tube 1, to insert the same onto the end face of the package contents via a corresponding segment-shaped partial area. The prefolders 4 also secure the hose contents against falling out or against axial displacement. 3 and 4 show the hose 1 with pressed-on folding plates 3. These now hold the contents of the hose firmly, the prefolders 4 bending the hose at the end faces of the contents so that it is seen in the plane of the drawing in FIG expands in a funnel-shaped manner towards its ends, while it narrows towards its ends, seen perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, in such a way that the edges la of the tube 1 approximately form an ellipse.
As FIGS. 5 and 6 show, expansion members 5 are now inserted into the pocket-like ends of the hose, and at the same time the middle part of the hose 1, which has been laid flat by the action of the expansion members 5, is welded to a transverse seam 1b by means of heated welding jaws 6. It is essential that the expansion members 5 remain in the position shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 until the transverse seam 1b is welded. In this way a clean weld seam is achieved. The air in the pack can then escape through the two openings which the spreading members 5 cause during the following operations.
After the expansion members 5 and the heating jaws 6 have been extended, according to FIGS. 7 and 8, the transverse seams from standing are folded over into the face plane of the pack by rotary folding levers 7 pivotable about an axis 8.
A heated die 9, which cooperates with two press levers 10, is then pressed against the end faces of the pack (FIG. 9). The two press levers 10 are pivoted and pressed against the punch 9, whereby they set up the two side tabs of the transverse seams lb, which previously protruded beyond the edge of the pack, in the longitudinal direction of the pack, as shown in FIG.
The openings that are still present in the transverse seam 1b, which were left by the spreading members 5, are welded. FIG. 10 shows a top view of the pack after parts 9 and 10 have been removed.
The last step of the folding process now follows according to FIG. 11. The tabs of the transverse seam 1b protruding from the end faces are bent towards one another by folding levers 11, whereupon a further punch 12 presses them against the end face of the pack. In this position they are welded or glued on. FIG. 12 shows the view of the end face of the finished pack before the folding plates 3 are removed.
13 and 14 show a packaging tube 1 with a square cross-section, the content of which is again indicated by boundary lines 2. In this case, the folding plates 14 are U-shaped in cross-section, so that they lie completely against two opposite sides of the tube 1 and can partially encompass the other two sides.
In this case, the prefolders 13 are each two triangular projections on the folding plates 14. This shape of the prefolders 13 ensures that when the folding plates 14 are placed on the tube 1, the ends of the tube 1 protruding beyond the contents, seen in a longitudinal plane, also assume a shape that widens towards the hose ends (cf. FIGS. 15 and 16). The other folding processes correspond to those already described.
The arrangement of the prefolders 4 or 13 on the folding plates 3 or 14 represents a simple and practical solution. In principle, however, the prefolders 4 or 13 could also be designed separately from the folding plates, guided on separate levers.
The folding and welding elements described can be arranged in a known manner in the conveying path of the packs in a packaging machine, the individual folding and welding operations taking place at different processing stations on the packs held by the folding plates 3 and 14.
