Multi-spindle drilling head The mechanical industry uses multi-spindle drilling tools. These tools include a drive spindle and a number of tool spindles. The drive spindle is mounted on the shaft of a drill or other rotating machine and transmits the rotational motion to the tool spindles which simultaneously drill, bore or machine as many holes as there are spindles. The transmission of movement and energy is ensured from the driving spindle to the machining spindles by gears. By requiring distances between predetermined and fixed axes, this system has the big drawback of only being able to place the machining spindles in limited number in certain ideal positions.
Other constructions use cranks. Their mounting in a common housing presents serious difficulties with regard to pivoting. Their cantilevered drive creates dangerous stresses in each of them.
The present invention relates to a multi-spindle drilling head comprising a driving spindle rotating the tool-holder spindles, characterized in that the driving spindle and the tool-holder spindles have the form of crankshafts whose crankshafts are fitted in a plate forming a common connecting rod which transmits the rotational movement of the driving spindle to the tool spindles.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a section on 11-I1 of FIG. 1. The multi-spindle drilling head comprises a casing formed of a cover 1 and a bottom 2 fitted to one another by two screws 3 and two pins 3a. This housing may be provided at its periphery with fasteners not shown making it integral with the frame of the machine and preventing it from rotating. The motor spindle 4 integral with the machine shaft ends in a crankshaft, remarkable for its crank pin 5, its arms 51 and its coaxial journals 52.
Tool spindles 6, 7 and 8 are also terminated by crankshafts whose crankpins, arms and coaxial journals are designated 9, 91, 92 respectively 10, 101 and 102. All these crankpins are fitted in a plate. 11. In order to be able to assemble and separate the shafts of the plate 11 each of them comprises, as well as the motor shaft, an arm and a journal whose diameter is smaller than that of the crankpin. The connection of these on cylindrical faces has a rounded shape such that it facilitates passage through said plate.
The shafts pivot by their journals in the cover 1 and in the bottom 2 of the housing. The axial support can be provided for the motor shaft by the bottom of the bore 13 or by a bearing surface not shown on this shaft and for the tool-holder shafts, by ball-holder stop screws 14. The plate 11 is housed in the recess 15 at the bottom. The diameter of this core must be slightly greater than the diameter of the plate plus the diameter displacement due to the crankshaft. The angle formed by a journal and an arm as well as the angle formed by an arm and a crankpin is obtuse.
When the shaft 4 rotates, it transmits its movement to the plate 11 and each point of this plate describes a circumference whose radius is that of the engine crankshaft. Thus, it suffices to give the crankshafts of the tool-holder shafts a radius equal to that of the engine crankshaft, so that all these shafts are simultaneously driven.
The present invention is not limited to the example described but also extends to other embodiments in which the number, such as the dimensions, of the tool-holder shafts could be larger or smaller, the pivoting shafts could be provided by plain, ball or roller bearings, the thrust bearings could also be replaced by thrust bearings and finally the plate could also be guided by plain, ball or roller bearings.
The multiple drilling head forming the subject of this invention provides a new solution to the machining problem by allowing a number of tool-holder spindles to be placed at all points on the work surface which is limited only by the diameter. of these pins.
