EMI2.2
B. in Säurehalogenide, überführt.

Process for the preparation of new aminobenzoic acid derivatives
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new derivatives of aminobenzoic acids.
The main patent describes a process for the preparation and use of new derivatives of aminobenzoic acids, namely of N-sulfonylated aminobenzoic acid arylamides of the formula
EMI1.1
wherein Ar is a phenyl, naphthyl, diphenylyl, phenoxyphenyl, phenylmercaptophenyl, phenylsulfinylphenyl, phenylsulfonylphenyl, benzylphenyl or benzoylphenyl radical, which radicals can optionally be substituted as indicated below, R1 is a hydrocarbon radical, R2 and R3 are hydrogen or aliphatic radicals and R4 is hydrogen or 1-4 nonionic substituents, in particular chlorine atoms, where the phenylene radical of aminobenzoic acid as R4 and the radicals R1, R2, R and Ar together must contain at least one chlorine atom as a substituent and, if necessary, further nonionic substituents,
in particular nitro groups may be present.
These compounds have excellent insecticidal activity against keratinous insects and their stages of development, such as moth larvae, fur and carpet beetle larvae.
Among the compounds defined above, those of the formula in particular are distinguished by particularly good effectiveness
EMI1.2
in which Ar is a halogen and / or trifluoromethyl-substituted, in particular chlorinated, phenyl, phenoxyphenyl or phenylmercaptophenyl radical, which radical can optionally also be substituted by lower alkyl or lower alkoxy groups, R1 is a lower, optionally halogen-substituted alkyl radical or one in the nucleus optionally by Halogen and / or trifluoromethyl substituted phenylalkyl or phenyl radical, R2 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical, Hal is chlorine or bromine, and n is a number from 0 to 4,
and the total sum of the halogen atoms and trifluoromethyl groups present as aromatic core substituents in the molecule is greater than 2 and advantageously at least 4.
It was observed that the radical Ar and I or an aromatic radical R1 can also contain a trifluoromethyl group instead of or in addition to halogen as a substituent, and that compounds with a trifluoromethyl group in the radical Ar and / or in an aromatic radical R1 are also extremely effective against keratinous pests.
It has now been found, surprisingly, that N-sulfonylated aminobenzoic acid arylamides with two trifluoromethyl groups in the arylamide radical, of the formula
EMI2.1
wherein Ar is a phenyl radical bearing two trifluoromethyl groups, which radical can optionally be substituted by the nitro group, a halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy radical or a phenoxy or phenyl mercapto radical substituted by halogen atoms, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy groups, R1 is a lower alkyl radical which The radical can optionally be substituted by halogen, or a phenylalkyl or phenyl radical, which radicals in the nucleus can optionally be substituted by halogen and / or trifluoromethyl, R2 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical, R3 is chlorine or bromine and n is a number from 0 to 4 ,
and the total sum of the halogen atoms and trifluoromethyl groups present as aromatic core substituents in the molecule is advantageously greater than 2 and preferably at least 4, in addition to excellent insecticidal effectiveness against keratinous insects and their stages of development, are characterized by a significantly better lightfastness, which they are used for treating textile materials makes it ideal for moth repellent.
The derivatives of anthranilic acid (ortho-aminobenzoic acid) falling under the general formula I defined above, especially those in which R1 is a lower alkyl radical, such as a methyl radical, are of particular interest with regard to ease of preparation, good effectiveness and lightfastness. But derivatives of m-aminobenzoic acid and p-aminobenzoic acid are also very effective.
The preferred halogen present as a substituent in the benzoic acid radical and in the other aromatic radicals is chlorine. The two CF3 groups in the aniline residue are preferably in the meta position to one another, in particular in the 3,5 position.
As optionally halogen-substituted lower alkyl radicals R1, those with 14 carbon atoms are particularly suitable, such as methyl, chloromethyl, ethyl, butyl, etc. A halogenated phenylalkyl radical preferred as the radical Rj is a chlorinated benzyl radical.
The novel compounds of the formula I defined above are prepared according to the invention by adding a reactive functional derivative, in particular a halide, of a sulfonamidobenzoic acid of the formula
EMI2.2
with an arylamine of the formula H, N-Ar III in the presence of an acid-binding agent, where Ar, R1, R2, and n have the meaning given above. The starting materials are expediently chosen such that, in addition to the two CF3 groups, at least one halogen atom is also present as a ring substituent of an aromatic ring in the reaction product.
In general, those reaction components of the formula II and III will be chosen as starting materials which give reaction products with a total of 1-4 halogen atoms as ring substituents. However, pairs of starting materials can also be used which contain no or only 1 to 2 halogen atoms as ring substituents.
If desired, any hydrogen atoms R2 in reaction products obtained by the aforementioned production process can then be replaced by alkyl radicals, either in the presence of acid-binding agents or after conversion into their alkali compounds with reactive esters of a lower aliphatic alcohol, e.g. B. with an alkyl halide.
The processes for obtaining starting materials of the formula II depend partly on the position of the amino group relative to the carboxyl group of the aminobenzoic acid and on the position of the halogen substituents relative to the amino group. m-aminobenzoic acid, p-aminobenzoic acid and their substitution products, like the unsubstituted anthranilic acid and some nucleus halogenated and ioder N-monoalkylated anthranilic acids, can be acylated by reaction with acid halides of sulfonic acids of the formula Rl-SO2-OH IV, whereupon the N-acyl derivatives of the aminobenzoic acids optionally after nuclear halogenation, into reactive functional derivatives with respect to the carboxyl group, e.g. B. converted into acid halides.
In the case of haloanthranilic acids with a halogen atom ortho to the amino group, such as 3,5-dichloranthranilic acid, the N-acylation is difficult to carry out.
As starting materials of the formula II, for. B. the chlorides of amino benzoic acids substituted on the nitrogen atom by the remainder of an aforementioned sulfochloride. example
1. 2-Methanesulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoic acid
171.5 parts of 5-chloroanthranilic acid are dissolved in 1000 parts of 2N sodium hydroxide solution and 120 parts of methanesulfonyl chloride are slowly added dropwise to this solution at 35-400. The solution must always be kept phenolphthalein alkaline by adding 10% sodium hydroxide solution.
The resulting clear solution is cooled and acidified with hydrochloric acid. The precipitated product is filtered off with suction and washed neutral with water on the suction filter.
The substance can be recrystallized moist from methanol. After drying in vacuo, it shows a melting point of 200-2020.
2. 2-methanesulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoyl chloride
250 parts of 2-methanesulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoic acid are suspended in 1500 parts of benzene. 250 parts of phosphorus pentachloride are introduced into this suspension at 500. The mixture is then refluxed until the evolution of HCl has ended.
When it cools down, the chloride separates out in crystalline form.
It is sucked off and washed with petroleum ether on the suction filter. After drying in vacuo, it shows a melting point of 131-133.
3. 2-Methanesulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoic acid 3 ', 5'-bis (trifluoromethyl) anilide
229 parts of 3,5-bis (trifluoromethyl) aniline are dissolved in 1000 parts of benzene and 100 parts of pyridine are added. A solution of 270 parts of 2-methanesulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoyl chloride in 500 parts of benzene is added dropwise at a temperature of about 40 °. The mixture is kept at 400 for a few hours and then subjected to steam distillation. The distillation residue is taken up with dilute sodium hydroxide solution, decolorized with animal charcoal and filtered. The 2-methanesulfonamido-5-chlorobenzoic acid-3 bis (trifluoromethyl) anilide can be precipitated from the filtrate with hydrochloric acid.
It is suction filtered, washed neutral with water and recrystallized from ethanol. After drying in vacuo, the compound melts at 230-232 ".

The compounds of the formula I prepared by the process according to the invention can be used by the processes customary for textile finishing. They have an affinity for keratinic material and are therefore particularly suitable for protecting the same against insect caused damage, in particular for the washable and lightfast moth-proof finishing of such materials, both in the raw and in the processed state, e.g. B. of raw or processed sheep wool, as well as other animal hair, skins and furs. In addition to the lightfast and washfast mothproof finish in the dye bath, the compounds can also be used to impregnate wool and woolen articles during dry cleaning, which also provides excellent moth protection. The active ingredients produced according to the invention are superior to comparable known moth repellants in terms of lightfastness.
In addition to their insecticidal activity against the larvae of the clothes moth, the compounds of the formula I also have an activity against the larvae of the fur and carpet beetles. The textiles treated in any manner with the compounds prepared according to the invention, such as woolen blankets, woolen carpets, woolen linen, woolen clothes and knitted goods, are therefore protected against the usual keratin eaters.
The agents used to protect keratin materials against insect caused damage should contain the active ingredients of the formula I in finely divided form. Solutions, suspensions and emulsions of the active ingredients are therefore particularly suitable for use.
If the active ingredients in the sulfonamide group still contain a hydrogen atom, that is, if R2 is embodied by a hydrogen atom, they are usually readily soluble in water in the form of their alkali salts.
They can be applied directly to the keratinous material from these aqueous solutions by dipping this into the alkali salt solutions for a shorter or longer period of time, or by spraying or spraying with the solutions, or treating it in the manner of the dyeing process at elevated temperature.
Compounds which no longer contain dissociable hydrogen in the sulfonamide group can, for. B. from their aqueous suspensions or emulsions on the material to be protected, preferably at elevated temperature, or use such suspensions or emulsions for spraying or spraying the material.
Because of their better solubility in organic solvents, these compounds are also particularly suitable for application from non-aqueous media. The materials to be protected can either simply be impregnated with these solutions or, with a suitable choice of solvent, the moth-proof finish can be combined with a dry cleaning process.
Propylene glycol, methoxyethanol, ethoxyethanol and dimethylformamide have proven particularly useful as organic solvents, to which distributing agents and / or other auxiliaries can be added. As distribution agents are emulsifiers such. B. sulfated castor oil, sulfite waste liquor and fatty alcohol sulfates, specifically mentioned.
Active ingredients of the formula have proven to be particularly suitable for use in the agents for protecting keratinous materials
EMI4.1
have been found in which R2 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical and n is a number from 1-4.
These connections can be used as follows:
0.5 parts of 2-methanesulfonamido-3,5-dichloro benzoic acid - 3 ', 5' - bis (trifluoromethyl) anilide with the help of 10 parts 0.1 -n. Sodium hydroxide solution and a little ethanol brought into solution. This solution is diluted with 3,000 parts of water, and 100 parts of wool are treated at 600 for 15 minutes in this liquor. Then 5 parts of 10% acetic acid are added and the treatment at 600 is continued for a further hour. The wool is then rinsed and dried as usual.
When tested, it proves to be resistant to attack by moth, fur beetle and carpet beetle larvae.
Treatments carried out comparatively in the same way with the compounds known from the main patent 2-methanesulfonamido -3,5-dichlorobenzoic acid-3 ', 4'-dichloroanilide or 2-methanesulfonamido -3,5- 5-dichlorobenzoic acid-3'-trifluoromethyl- 4'-chloranilide also provide moth-proof wool.
However, if all three samples are exposed to the influence of sunlight side by side, those with 2-methanesulfonamido -3,5-dichlorobenzoic acid-3 ', 4'-dichloroanilide and with 2-methanesulfonamido-3,5-dichlorobenzoic acid-3'-trifluoromethyl-4 show '-chloranilide treated sample a clear yellowing after a certain time, while the sample treated with the 2-methanesulfonamido-3, 5-dichlorobenzoic acid-3', 5'-bis- (trifluoromethyl) anilide treated according to the same Exposure time shows no change.
In an analogous manner, baths with the same or similar composition can also be used for finishing untreated or otherwise treated or cleaned articles.
Similar mixtures can also be used for spraying or spraying wool in every processing stage.
