The object of the present invention is a. timepiece with pendulum, the cock of which has an elongated shape and carries at one of its ends the bearing for the upper pivoting of the axis of the balance.
A construction of this type is already known, in which a tightening screw fixes the rear end of the cock to the plate of the movement in combination with three adjustment screws arranged near the tightening screw and each formed of two parts, of which the 'one is fixed to the plate and the other to the rear end of the cock, making it possible to adjust the position of the bearings so that the swing of the balance axis remains the same at all temperatures.
A device has also already been proposed which facilitates adjustment in the longitudinal direction of the axis of the balance wheel of watches, this device comprising a pressure screw threaded in each of the two supports of said axis and making it possible to move these supports more or less apart. the plate on which they are fixed.
These known constructions have not been satisfactory in practice, the cock being kept in place on the plate.
The timepiece according to the invention is characterized in that the cock is formed by a plate of at least approximately constant thickness, the end of which opposite said bearing is in engagement with an adjusting screw screwed into the plate and in that that it is fixed to the frame between its ends by means of two fixing screws, the plane of the axes of said fixing screws being at least approximately perpendicular to the plane containing the axis of the balance and the axis of the adjustment screw ,
1e all being arranged so as to allow the axial swing of the axis of the balance to be varied by means of said adjusting screw and by elastic deformation of the cock.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. Only what is necessary for understanding the invention has been shown in the drawing. Fig. 1 is a plan view of this embodiment. Fig. 2 is a section taken along line II-II of FIG. l. The timepiece partially shown in the drawing comprises a balance 1, the axis 2 of which is pivoted in the usual way between the plate 3 and the cock 4.
The bearing of the plate is generally designated by 5 and that of the rooster 4 by 6, each of these bearings preferably comprising a pierced stone and a counter-pivot stone. The balance 1 is of any type and cooperates with a hairspring 7 attached on the one hand to the balance axis 2 and on the other hand to a stud 8. The stud holder 9 is rotatably mounted with greasy friction coaxially with the 'balance axis 2. A racket 10 carrying a pin 11 and a key 12 is mounted with greasy friction on the jack 13 and makes it possible to adjust the active length of the hairspring 7.
The cock 4 has an elongated shape and carries at one of its ends a bearing 6 for the upper pivoting of the balance axis 2. It consists of a plate of at least approxi-

matively constant, the end 18 of which opposite the bearing 6 is engaged with an adjusting screw 14 screwed into the plate 3; the screw 14 has a groove 15 below its head in which the thinned end 18 of the cock board 4 is engaged.
The plate 3 leaves two pillars 16 serving to support the cock 4, the latter being fixed on the pillars 16 by means of two headed screws 17. The plane of the axes of the two fixing screws 17 is perpendicular to the plane containing the axis of the balance 1 and the axis of the adjustment screw 14, and the cock 4 is slightly widened in line with the screws 17, so that it has more or less the general appearance of a cross.
To mount the cock 4 on the plate 3, we start by inserting the adjusting screw 14 in the corresponding thread of the plate 3, then it is screwed a few turns. The rooster 4 is then placed in place by engaging its edge 18 in the groove 15 of the screw 14 and by causing the middle part of the rooster to rest on the pillars 16, so that its fixing holes 19 come up against the corresponding threads of the pillars 16. The cock 4 is thus temporarily held in place by the screw 14 and the upper pivot of the balance shaft 2 can be engaged in the bearing 6.
The two fixing screws 17 serving to hold the cock 4 on the plate 3 are then put in place and tightened fully.
To adjust the axial swing of the balance shaft 2 between its bearings 5 and 6, it suffices to turn the adjustment screw 14 through a certain angle in one direction or the other. If, in fact, screw 14 is screwed so as to drive it further into plate 3, the upper wall of groove 15, that is to say the lower face of the head of screw 14, acts on the face upper edge 18 and causes this edge 18 to tilt downwards, so that the opposite end of the cock 4, carrying the pad 6, is moved upwards, which increases the axial swing of the axis 2.
On the contrary, if the screw 14 is unscrewed a little, it is the lower wall of the groove 15 which acts on the underside of the edge 18 and tends to move the pad 6 downwards, and therefore to decrease the length. 'axial swing of the axis 2 of the balance 1. Although the cock 4 is held between its ends by the two fixing screws 17, it can tilt to a certain extent around the axis formed by the line connecting the centers of the two screws 17 plan views.
On the other hand, the alterations to be made to the axial movement of the axis 2 are always low, and it is easily seen that a slight displacement of the edge 18 results in an amplified displacement of the bearing 6, due to the lever arm ratio.
We see in fact in FIG. 1 that the distance between the bearing 6 and the line connecting the centers of the fixing screws 17 is greater than the distance between the said line and the adjusting screw 14.
The tests carried out have given complete satisfaction and have shown that it is possible to modify the axial swing of the balance shaft 2 within the desired limits. The screw 14 preferably has a strong pitch, that is to say a pitch barely greater than that of the corresponding tapping of the plate 3, so that one obtains - thus a fairly hard adjustment of the screw 14 in the plate, which prevents any untimely rotation of the screw 14, once the adjustment has been made.
It can be seen that the position of the cock 4 is perfectly determined, due to the fact that it is maintained on the plate 3 in three places, namely by the heads of the two screws 17 and by the upper or lower wall of the groove 15 of the screw adjustment 14. According to a variant, it is also possible, to adjust the axial range of the balance shaft 2, first unscrew the screws 17 a little, then turn the screw 14 through a certain angle. in the desired direction, then retighten the screws 17. This procedure allows, if necessary, to obtain a slightly higher adjustment amplitude.
The screw 14 therefore assumes a dual function, since, on the one hand, it allows the cock 4 to be temporarily held during its assembly, which proves to be very useful in practice, and that, on the other hand, it allows to easily adjust the axial swing of the balance axis 2, the latter operation being able to be done even on the finished watch, without requiring any disassembly.
