In diesem Zusammenhang seien folgende Kompo nenten erwähnt: 1.
insbesondere sogenannte Nuancier- farbstoffe.

Process for dyeing and printing nitrogen-containing fibers with 1: 2 metal complex compounds of azo dyes For the dyeing of nitrogen-containing fibers, especially wool, only two classes of metal-containing dyes have gained significant practical importance, namely 1: 1 chromium on the one hand - complex monoazo dyes containing sulfonic acid groups and on the other hand the 1:
2-chromium and cobalt complexes of azo dyes, usually mono azo dyes, in which the complex molecule (hereinafter also referred to simply as the complex) in the two azo dye molecules involved in the complex formation, which are the same or different from one another can, in total at most a single sulfonic acid group or preferably no free sulfonic acid group at all and also no free carboxylic acid group, i.e. not involved in the complex formation,
but usually have sulfonic acid amide groups or similarly acting substituents, such as sulfonic groups or sulfonic acid ester groups.
1: 2 complexes with more than one acidic, water-solubilizing group in the molecule, e.g. B. those with two or more than two sulfonic acid groups, on the other hand, have so far generally proven to be practically useless; Both from strongly acidic and from weakly acidic baths on wool, they result not only in extremely uneven, flaky dyeings (cf. Zollinger: Chemie der Azofarbstoff [1958], page 189), but also weak and empty shades.
Usable to very valuable dyeings of any color strength and satisfactory levelness and good fastness properties can be obtained if these complexes are first placed on the fiber, where 1: 2 complexes are formed (see Nitschke: Chemische Technologie und Praxis der Färberei [1958] , Page 58), or in some cases generated during dyeing from the metal-free dyes and suitable metal donors.
It is therefore easy to understand that this working method, the post-chrome plating process or the single-bath chrome plating process, is still practically practiced to a large extent, although it is associated with significant procedural disadvantages and difficulties and noticeable damage to the wool cannot be avoided .
Furthermore, from the French patent specification No. 1054 310 a method for preventing the pointy dyeing of loose wool with metallizable or 1:
1-metal complex dyes in the presence of a nonionic auxiliary known. The Belgian patents Nos. 559678 and 559679 be write a process for dyeing polyacrylonitrile fibers with basic dyes in the presence of quaternary ammonium salts. In the SVF specialist body for textile finishing 13, page 147 (1958),
a method for dyeing fiber mixtures of wool and polyacrylic fibers with wool dyes in the presence of a cationic, optionally together with a nonionic auxiliary, be written, and in the same publication on pages 595 to 596 a method for dyeing wool with reactive dyes is disclosed ,
after the end of the dyeing process, the pH value is increased.
The present process now makes it possible to dye nitrogen-containing fibers, in particular wool, with the 1: 2 complexes of the specified type, which are otherwise unusable for this purpose, in a very simple manner, uniformly and in any desired color strength.
This process for dyeing and printing nitrogen-containing fibers that can be dyed with acidic dyes is characterized in that the fibers are treated in an aqueous bath with a pH of 3 to 7 with dyes consisting primarily of 1:
2-chromium or cobalt complex compounds consist of azo dyes which contain at least two acidic, water-solubilizing groups in the molecule of the metal complex, in the presence of cation-active compounds, which owe their water-solubility exclusively to groups with basic nitrogen atoms.
According to the present process, those nitrogenous fibers can be dyed that can be dyed with acidic dyes in the usual way, eg. B. silk, polyamide fibers made from s-caprolactam or those made from adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine. The process has proven to be particularly advantageous when dyeing wool, optionally in a mixture with other nitrogen-containing or nitrogen-free fibers.
In the case of polyamide fibers, the present method is also advantageous in that these fibers are dyed in the same tone and usually in the same depth as the wool, while the color of the unchromized dye is usually retained in the Nachehromierverfahren on polyamide fibers.
The dyes used are 1: 2 chromium or cobalt complex compounds of azo dyes, e.g. B. disazo dyes or especially monoazo dyes are used, that is, complexes in which two molecules of an azo dye or one molecule of two different azo dyes are complexly bound to a chromium or cobalt atom. The complex can e.g.
B. contain a disazo dye and a monoazo dye or preferably two identical or different monoazo dye molecules. Furthermore, the complex must contain at least two acidic, water-solubilizing groups, z.
B. free carboxylic acid groups (-COO cation) or in particular free sulfonic acid groups (-SO.- cation), the carboxylic acid groups involved in the complex formation are not to be regarded as water-solubilizing groups, since they, bound in this way, no longer cause water solubility. The water-solubilizing groups can be distributed as desired in the complex. As a rule, it is advantageous if at least one sulfonic acid group is present.
If the complex contains a total of two water-solubilizing groups, and the complex-forming metal is designated with Me and the two dyes with F and F2, the following possibilities arise, shown schematically:
EMI0002.0058
To be particularly favorable u. a. because of their easy accessibility, the dyes falling under e) and f) in the molecule of the dye complex containing two sulfonic acid groups, or in general those dyes which have at least two sulfonic acid groups in the molecule of the complex, with those dyes in which as in the complexes given under f), two monoazo dye molecules,
each of which has at least one sulfonic acid group, are complexly bonded to a chromium or cobalt atom.
Apart from the inevitable difference between Fi and F2 in cases a), c), d) and e), the dyes Fi and FZ can in all cases have either the same or different constitution. The position of the water-solubilizing groups in the dyes Fi and F2 is otherwise arbitrary; they can be in the remainder of the diazo or azo component, optionally also two to four of them in the same remainder.
Too high an accumulation of water-solubilizing groups, especially sulfonic acid groups, is generally less advisable, especially in the case of a relatively small molecular weight, because it can reduce the wet fastness properties of the dyeings. For example, the presence of two to four sulfonic acid groups in the complex has proven to be particularly favorable.
The monoazo dyes preferably contain o, o'-dioxyazo groupings as metal complex-forming groups. However, other complex-forming groups, such as o-oxy-o'-carboxymethoxy groups or o-oxy-o'-aminoazo groups, are also possible.
The azo dyes required for the preparation of the metal complexes can moreover be obtained in a conventional manner known per se and from known diazo and azo components. By the way, numerous azo dyes of this type have long been known as chrome dyes. There come for the produc- tion of such azo dyes z.
B. o-oxy or o-carboxyamines of the benzene and naphthaiine series and as azo components in the vicinity of an oxy group (or an enolizable keto group) coupling oxybenzenes, oxynaphthalenes, 2,4-dioxyquinolines, pyrazolones and acetoacetyl aminobenzenes into consideration .
The following components may be mentioned in this context: 1. Diazo components without groups which make water soluble.
(This subheading also includes the o-aminocarboxylic acids without any other water-solubilizing group.) 2. Diazo components with groups which make them water-soluble.
3. Azo components without water-solubilizing groups.
4. Azo components with water-solubilizing groups.
The 1: 2 complexes which can be used in the present process can also be prepared in a conventional manner known per se from the metal-free monoazo dyes, expediently by the methods known for the preparation of 1: 2 metal complexes without water-solubilizing groups.
When producing symmetrical complexes in which the metal atom is bound to two identical dye molecules, it is advisable to treat the dyes in such a way and with such metal donating agents as alkali chromium salicylate, chromium acetate, sodium cobalt tartrate, cobalt acetate or cobalt sulfate that the desired complexes are obtained immediately. This subheading also includes chromating with alkali dichromate in the presence of reducing agents.
For the preparation of asymmetric complexes, another method is generally indicated in order to send uniform products and not mixtures with a substantial proportion of symmetrical groups, some of which have no water-solubilizing groups at all, and therefore to obtain undesired by-products.
In this case, one of the two dyes intended to build up the asymmetrical 1: 2 complex, preferably the one which contains water-solubilizing groups, unless this is the case with both, the 1: 1 chromium complex is prepared and this is used thereupon with the other metal-free dye.
It should also be noted that both the 1: 1 complexes and the 1: 2 complexes of o, o'-dioxyazo dyes are not only derived from the o, o'-dioxyazo dyes themselves, but also can be prepared from the corresponding o-oxy-o'-alkoxyazo dyes.
For the direct production of 1: 2 complexes, but in particular for the production of the 1: 1 complexes intended for conversion into 1: 2 complexes, the corresponding o-alkoxydiazo compounds can accordingly also be used instead of the o-oxydiazo compounds , especially the methoxy compounds, can be used.
The work-up of the 1: 2 complexes can u. U. cause certain difficulties because these compounds are very soluble in water. Complexes, which can not be looked for this reason, can by evaporation of the reaction mixture or other suitable methods, e.g. B. addition of certain water-miscible organic solvents, are isolated.
The cation-active compounds which can be used according to the invention advantageously contain at least one aliphatic radical of at least 8 carbon atoms bonded to one another. Quaternary ammonium compounds are particularly suitable.
Among the latter are in particular the compounds of the formula
EMI0003.0096
Mention should be made in which R1 is a preferably unbranched aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with at least 12, preferably 16 to 20, carbon atoms, R2, R3 and R4 low molecular weight hydrocarbon radicals, eg. B. ethyl or methyl groups, or - two to three of these radicals together with the nitrogen atom - a heterocyclic ring and X is an anion, z.
B. a halogen atom such as bromine or chlorine, or a methosulfate group. The condition that two to three of the radicals R2, R3 and R4 together with the nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic ring is to be understood as meaning that this ring is made up of either the nitrogen atom and two of these radicals that are simply attached to the nitrogen atom and, moreover, from each other are bonded, with a third radical in the form of a low molecular weight alkyl group, composed,
or that the whole group
EMI0003.0118
consists of a heterocyclic ring, the nitrogen atom being bonded with a double bond to R./R ″ and a single bond to R4, with RJR3 and R4 in turn being linked, as is the case with the pyridine ring, for example.
Examples of compounds of the formula (1) are cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, cetylpyridinium bromide and tetradecylpyridinium bromide.
Also suitable as cationic compounds are salts, optionally quaternary ammonium salts, of basic condensation products from alkylolamides of higher molecular weight fatty acids and alkanolamines, such as. B. the acetate of the condensation product of 1 mole of stearic acid methylolamide and 1 mole of triethanolamine.
In addition, monoquaternary ammonium salts which contain at least one aralkyl radical or cycloalkyl radical or the atom grouping of the formula can be used as cation-active compounds in the present process
EMI0004.0030
contain, where R1 and R2 optionally substituted or interrupted by heteroatoms alkyl
EMI0004.0034
where R and R1 each represent a higher molecular weight aliphatic hydrocarbon radical,
R2, R3, R5 and R, optionally further substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl radicals, Z an optionally further
EMI0004.0046
represent residues and the alkyl residue located between the nitrogen atoms may contain substituents.
In particular, there are compounds of the formula
EMI0004.0051
in which R1 is a preferably straight-chain alkyl radical having 12 to 18 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are alkyl radicals having 1 to 2 carbon atoms and R4 is an optionally further substituted benzyl or cyclohexyl radical.
Examples are dimethylbenzyllaurylammonium chloride, dimethylbenzylstearylammonium chloride, dioxyethylbenzyllaurylammonium chloride and dimethylcyclohexyllaurylammonium bromide.
Finally, such quaternary ammonium salts are to be mentioned as cation-active compounds which contain at least two quaternary nitrogen atoms and at least one, but preferably two, higher molecular weight aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals.
They correspond, for example, to the general formula alkylene radicals substituted or interrupted by heteroatoms, Z1 and Z2 are low molecular weight alkylene radicals, n is an integer not exceeding 2 and X is an anion. Examples are the compounds of the following formulas: In general, it is useful if the dyebaths contain a nonionic dispersant in addition to the cationic compound.
As such, in particular polyglycol ethers come from oxy compounds, e.g. B. of alkylphenols such as p-nonyl or p-tert-octylphenol or, preferably, of higher molecular weight aliphatic alcohols such as lauryl, cetyl or octadecyl alcohol, which are expediently obtained by adding 10 to 50 mol of ethylene oxide to 1 mol of the alcohol in question.
It can also be used polyglycol ethers, which differ from other than oxy compounds, z. B. derived from amides of higher fatty acids or from alkyl mercaptans with a higher molecular alkyl radical.
The present method has proven to be advantageous both in the actual dyeing and in the printing. When dyeing from aqueous baths, the amounts of the substances to be added to the dyebaths in the present process can fluctuate within relatively wide limits. The amount of dye depends of course on the desired color strength.
It is also possible to use mixtures of complexes of the composition specified at the outset and, in addition, dyes with a different composition in subordinate amounts, that is to say up to about 20% of the total amount of dye,
especially so-called shading dyes. It is advantageous to use about 1.1 to 2114 of the cation-active compound, calculated on the weight of the wool, of the amount of dye. The amount of nonionic dispersant is expediently of the same order of magnitude as that of the cationic compound. The pH of the dye bath is 3 to 7, preferably 4 to 6.
This pH can advantageously be adjusted by adding acetic acid or ammonium salts or a mixture of such compounds. For example, 3 to 8 parts of 40% acetic acid or 2 to 5 parts of ammonium sulfate or ammonium acetate are used per 100 parts of fiber material. It is also recommended that the dyebath alkali salt, z. B. sodium sulfate to add.
As is generally the case when dyeing nitrogen-containing fibers, especially wool, it is advisable to work at an elevated temperature, for example by starting the actual dyeing process at around 50 to 80 C, heating the bath to the boiling point and then continuing the dyeing at this temperature completed. However, it has been shown that in the present process, even for dyeing wool, it is not at all necessary to keep the temperature very close or very close to the boiling point of the dye bath. As a rule, results are practically equally good if the dyeing process is significantly below the boiling point, e.g. B. at temperatures between 80 and 90 C is carried out.
So that the nitrogen-containing compound works with certainty from the start, the dyed material can also contain the acid, optionally sodium sulfate, and the auxiliary agent or agents, i.e. the cationic compound and optionally the nonionic dispersant , contains, enter at room temperature or at most moderately elevated temperature, he warm the dyebath and only then add the dye in the form of an aqueous solution in the warmth.
If desired, dyeing can also be carried out by continuous methods, for example by first padding the material to be dyed cold with a neutral dye solution and then subjecting it to a brief aftertreatment in a hot acid bath.
The present method is also very well suited for Vigoureux printing on woolen tops. The printing pastes required for this purpose contain, in addition to at least one dye and an auxiliary agent of the specified composition, Ver thickeners, eg. B. tragacanth or British gum. They should also have an acid content, e.g. B. acetic acid. They can also contain other additives customary in printing pastes, e.g. B.
Oil of turpentine, hydrotropic agents such as urea and / or agents which prevent reduction such as sodium nitrobenzalsulfonic acid.
Otherwise, the usual vigoureux printing can be used. After printing z. B. under atmospheric pressure, steamed before geous with at least one interruption for 40 to 120 minutes.
The Vigaureux prints obtained are characterized by good color yield and very good fastness properties.
The wet fastness properties, in particular the potting fastness of the dyeings obtained according to the present process with regard to bleeding, can in some cases be significantly improved if, after the fibers have been taken from an acid bath, that is, at a pH of less than 6, the Have absorbed the desired amount of dye, increased the pH of the dyebath above 6, for example by adding ammonia.
For dyeing mixtures of nitrogen-containing fibers and cellulose fibers, for example so-called semi-wool, increasing the pH value is particularly useful, as it allows working in a two-stage, but only one-bath process. First, the wool portion of the fiber mixture is dyed in the manner described above, the cellulose portion remaining practically uncolored. After increasing the pH, e.g. B.
With the help of ammonia, sodium sulfate and then a substantive cotton dye are added - expediently without additional heat supply. It is advantageous to choose dyes that do not or only slightly dye the wool, even near 100. The dyeing continues until the cellulose fiber also has the desired color, e.g. B. for about half an hour, and then finished as usual.
To improve the wet fastness properties of the cellulose fiber portion, it is useful to post-treat it with a wet fastness improver, e.g. B. a condensation product of dicyandiamide and formaldehyde, are carried out in a conventional manner.
Instead of supplying the dye and the cation-active compound to the dyebath individually in the present process, these two and optionally other substances, in particular the non-ionic dispersant, can be added to the dyebath in the form of a ready-to-use and stable preparation.
These preparations can be prepared by mixing the dye complexes with the cation-active compounds and optionally the dispersants or by evaporating or atomizing solutions or suspensions containing the dye and the auxiliary agent (s).
In the following examples, unless otherwise noted, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are, as in the preceding description, given in degrees Celsius. Example 1 In a dyebath in which, in 3000 parts of water, 10 parts of crystallized sodium sulfate, 6 parts of 400% acetic acid, 1 part of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, 2 parts of the adduct of 1 mol of octadecyl alcohol and 35 mol of ethylene oxide and 2 Contains parts of the dye described below,
one goes at 50 to 80 with 100 parts of woolen knitting yarn. In the course of half an hour the bath is heated to boiling temperature and then colored at the boil for an hour. The wool is then rinsed and dried. A uniform, blue color is obtained. Without the addition of the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, a strongly flaky, pale gray color of no practical value is obtained.
Instead of the above-mentioned ethylene oxide addition product, an addition product of 1 mol of nonylphenol and 9 mol of ethylene oxide, or one of 1 mol of castor oil and 40 mol of ethylene oxide, or one of 1 mol of tert. Dodecyl mercaptan and 8 to 10 moles of ethylene oxide are used.
If the 1: 2 chromium complex obtained in the same way from the monoazo dye from diazotized 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid and 1-oxynaphthalene is used instead of the dye described below, a uniform blue color is also obtained. Here you can raise the temperature of the dyebath after entering with the wool instead of boiling to 85 and continue dyeing at this temperature for one hour.
Preparation of the dye 41.6 parts of the monoazo dye, prepared by coupling diazotized 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid with 2-oxynaphthalene, who dissolved in 1000 parts of water and mixed with 100 Sodium chromium salicylate solution with a chromium content of 2.8511h is added by volume. After several hours of boiling on the reflux condenser, the metallization is complete.
By adding sodium chloride, the chromium complex is deposited, filtered off and dried.
Example 2 The procedure is as in Example 1 using the chromium complex described below. This gives a uniform red color, while in the rest of the same procedure, but without the addition of the auxiliaries mentioned, a yellow, flaky color is obtained.
The chromium complex is prepared as follows: A solution of 51.0 parts of the dye, prepared by coupling diazotized 4-chloro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene-6-sulfonic acid with 1-phenyl-3-methyl - 5 - pyrazolone- 4'-sulfonic acid in 750 parts of water is made slightly alkaline to phenolphthalein by adding sodium hydroxide.
After adding 93 parts by volume of a sodium chromium salicylate solution with a chromium content of 2.85.9 / o, the mixture is refluxed while stirring until no more starting dye can be detected. The deep red solution is neutralized with acetic acid and evaporated to dryness.
Example 3 The procedure of Example 1 is followed, but instead of the chromium-containing dyes mentioned there, one of the 1: 2 metal complexes listed below is used, which complex 2 molecules of the same dye to a metal atom contain bonds and which can be made in the usual way, and also receives uniform colorations.
In Table A 1: 2 complexes are listed which contain 2 molecules of the same dye complexed to a metal atom.

In the same way, fiber blends made of wool and polyamide fibers can be dyed.
Example 5 30 parts of the adduct of 35 mol of ethylene oxide with 1 mol of octadecyl alcohol and 40 parts of dextrin are stirred with 400 parts of water at 70 for 15 minutes, 10 parts of the 1: 2 chromium complex are added to give a clear solution, whose production is described at the end of Example 1, added in part.
A solution of 6.5 parts of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in 50 parts of water is then added with vigorous stirring. The now opaque, but residue-free mixture is stirred for a further 30 minutes at 70 and then evaporated to dryness in vacuo.
