par des orifices avec bouchons à joints étanches prévus à cet effet; - un séparateur magnétique figuré en 44 au sché ma de la fig. 6 et qui est fixé au fond du bac 2. Ce séparateur est de tout type connu et il pro cède, comme on le comprend bien, par attrac tion des particules et déchets métalliques ou au tres, susceptibles d'en subir l'effet magnétique ;
Le réducteur-inverseur comprend enfin une vanne de commande 40 plus particulièrement--illustrée aux fig. 7 et 8. Le rôle dévolu à cette vanne est de diri ger le fluide hydraulique selon plusieurs positions et circuits de commande afin d'assurer - la mise au point mort avec arrosage simultané des deux freins à disques 28-29 et 31-32 qui sont alors desserrés ; - l'embrayage de la marche avant avec l'arrosage des disques 28 et 29 du frein de la marche ar rière qui est desserré ;
Des chambres de distribution 405 - 40s - 407 - 40$ sont encore formées autour de la chambre 402. Ces chambres correspondent, respectivement - à la canalisation 365 qui conduit le fluide à la chambre 362 en vue de l'embrayage du système planétaire l9-22-21 de la marche avant par la mise en action des freins 31-32 ; - à la canalisation 364 qui conduit le fluide à la chambre 361 en vue de l'embrayage du système planétaire 18-25-20 de la marche arrière par la mise en action du frein 28-29 ;
En effet, au cours de la manoeuvre pour passer de la marche avant à la marche arrière par exemple, quand le piston à double effet 35 de l'embrayage est séparé des disques 31-32 du frein de marche avant, pour aller presser les disques 28-29 du frein de la marche arrière - la pression de l'huile tombe à zéro et devient même négative dans le circuit embrayage et le compartiment 131, depuis le départ du piston jusqu'au point mort, par suite de la détente des ressorts et des doigts de rappel du piston double effet. Il y a donc un appel dans ledit circuit et le compartiment 131 ;
Reverse gearbox with hydraulic torque converter, applicable in particular to handling vehicles The reverse gearbox with hydraulic torque converter, which is the subject of this patent has been more specially designed to be applied to vehicles or vehicles. mobile devices of all kinds which require rapid, even immediate, and often frequent passages from forward to reverse. This is particularly the case with trolleys or motor vehicles of any kind, which are used for maneuvering and handling, for example inside factories where maneuvering surfaces are generally limited.
Very frequent : forward-reverse operations, and vice versa, are necessary and are carried out most of the time without care, often before the vehicle has stopped and sometimes at a certain speed. to stop the vehicle in front of an unforeseen obstacle. It is obvious that the material thus abused must be subjected to frequent, important and very expensive repairs. It becomes unusable relatively quickly. The operating costs are very high.
The hydraulically operated gearbox-reverser according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks and makes the driving of the machines more pleasant, more convenient, smoother and safer, because it makes it possible to carry out frequent and flexible operations. versions of movements without waiting for the vehicle to come to a complete stop.
This reducer-reverser is interposed between the engine system and the transmission to the driving wheels. The reducer-inverter is characterized by the fact that the output shaft of the hydraulic torque converter drives the central planetary gear of two planetary gear trains having a common output and which are capable of being put into action either. , by immobilizing one of their elements cooperating with a disc brake, the - disc brakes being mounted on the periphery of the planetary gears and controlled hydraulically by a single double-acting piston with automatic spring return devices at the point dead.

In particular, reference is made first to FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 4 to describe said embodiment of the reducer-inverter.
All the mechanics- is mounted and carried in a casing or body 1 executed for example and preferably in cast metal, with the necessary splits and assemblies. This casing can be arranged for example as illustrated at 11 with a collar and a bearing surface for assembly to the engine of the vehicle.
The casing 1 is arranged with an internal partition 12 which mainly separates it into two compartments for mounting, on the one hand, a hydraulic torque converter or transformer, and, on the other hand, a locking mechanism. two planetary gears with disc brakes and a control piston.
The lower part of the casing 1 is further hollowed out to partially form an assembly chamber of a double pump, with a lower casing or casing 2 attached and fixed against a hard boron bearing 13 of said lower part of the casing. A seal 3 seals the assembly.
The hydraulic torque transformer is of any known type and is described in a succinct manner in the embodiment illustrated where the ring gear 4 can be seen driven in any known manner by the motor system, and which is engaged. with the axial wheel 5 integral with a shell 6 driving the impeller rotor 7 of the converter. Axially, the impeller rotor 7 is secured to a bearing 8 turning through a friction joint 9 in a central bearing 14 of the partition 12.
The bearing 8 has a peripheral toothing 81 in engagement with an intermediate toothed wheel 10 mounted to rotate about an axis 11 carried between two partitions of the casing. The impeller 10 is itself engaged with an impeller 12 which actuates the oil pump 13 fixed to the lower part of the housing 1.
The converter further comprises, in a general and well-known manner, the stator or finned reactor 14 mounted to rotate by means of bearings on an axial bearing surface 15 extending into the central bearing surface 14 of the partition 12 where it is adjusted and fixed.
The turbine or finned receiver 16 of the converter is secured by a splined seat 161 of a shaft 17 which constitutes the output shaft of the converter and which rotates by means of a bearing in the axial seat 15 and the central seat. 14.
On the splined end of the shaft 17 are mounted and driven two central sun gears 18 and 19 each belonging to a planetary system whose outer rings are 20 and 21 respectively. The ring 20 is carried by the axes 221 of the satel lites 22 cooperating with the sun gear 19 and the crown 21, and, consequently, said crown 20 is integral with the planet carrier 23 terminated by an axial bearing 231 which cooperates with the output shaft 24 (drawn in broken lines, fig. 3) by any known training system or means.
Furthermore, the planet gnons 25 of the first planetary system, which are engaged on the one hand with the central sun gear 18 and on the other hand with the ring gear 20, are mounted on shafts 26 between planet carrier plates 27- 271.
A double brake disc device is provided in cooperation with these two planetary systems, in order to block an element thereof and thus to make one or the other of these drive systems solid with the output shaft 24, in the 'one or the other direction of travel, it being specified that forward travel results from the blocking of the system 19-22 and 21, while reverse gear results from the blocking of the system 18-25-20.
For this purpose, the planet carrier 27 is established with a bearing surface 272 which is integral in any known manner, friction discs 28 mounted alternately with respect to friction discs 29 carried by a support 30 fixed against the internal partition. 12.
On the other hand, the outer ring 21 of the forward planetary system is established with a bearing 211 which is integral in any known manner, friction discs 31 mounted alternately with respect to friction discs 32 carried by a support 33 fixed against the closure plate 34 which closes the open end of the housing 1, this closure being ensured in a sealed manner by interposing gaskets for example.
There is no need to dwell on the details of making the discs which are established in any known manner to have a very good coefficient of friction. However, the mounting of the disc devices at the periphery of planetary systems with the maximum diameter compatible with the size in the housing, resulting in very large friction surfaces between the discs and consequently a better effect is emphasized. braking. It also results, as will emerge from the rest of the description, better cooling, which is important, and better evacuation of waste and abrasions.
The reversing mechanism which has just been described is completed by a piston device 35 established for example in two parts for the convenience of execution, and whose ends 351 - 352 are intended to act, respectively, against the discs 28-29 or against the discs 31-32.
An important characteristic of this piston device is that it comprises, for actuating the two braking devices, only one double-acting piston 35. The latter is slidably mounted in a sealed manner both at its ends 351-352 and in its middle part, in a cylinder 36 which is fixed peripherally between the casing 1 and the plate 34. On either side of the cylinder. an interior shoulder 363 of said cylinder are formed two chambers 361-362 corresponding to the ends 351 - 352.
As a result, it is impossible to act against the two disc devices at the same time, and therefore to engage both directions of travel at the same time.
However, it is important to naturally return the piston 35 to the intermediate position of neutral, and for this purpose a series of elastic return devices is provided which are housed in the shoulder 363 and which act alternately against one and the other. 'beyond the ends 351- 352. One of these elastic return devices is illustrated more precisely in FIG. 4. Each of these elastic devices is com posed of a rod 37 housed in the shoulder 363 via a sleeve 38, and the outer end of which acts against the end 351 or 352 worse.
A spring 381 housed in the bush resiliently pushes the rod 37 by a shoulder of the latter, and this outward thrust against the end 351 or 352 tends to push the piston backwards. median non-contact position with respect to disc devices. The thrust of the rods 37 is limited in a predetermined manner, by adjusting the position of the bushes 38 in the shoulder 363, and due to the abutment of the shoulder of the rods 37 against a bearing surface at the end of the bushes.
We now consider the hydraulic circuit of the reducer-inverter with particular reference to FIG. 3 and the circulation diagram of FIG. 6.
The oil is pumped into the lower tank 2 by a double pump 13 with single suction in said tank. It will be recalled that the pump 13 is driven from the impeller rotor of the converter.
A pumping element 131 of the pump directs the pressurized oil through a pipe 39 to a control valve generally designated by 40 and fixed to the top of the housing 1. We will then come back to the construction. of the control valve and its important role. However, it can be seen, particularly in fig. 3, from the valve 40, the pipes 15 and 13 - 341 which open respectively above the discs 28 - 29 and 31- 32 to ensure the watering thereof. We also see the ducts 364 and 365 executed in the cylinder 36 and which, from the valve 40, provide communication with, respectively, the chambers 361 and 362.
The second element 132 of the pump directs the pressurized oil through a pipe 17 made in the bulkhead of the crankcase and by a pipe 151 executed in the seat 15, to the rotors of the converter in order to 'feed the latter to refusal to ensure the effectiveness of its action. The oil is evacuated in a continuous circuit and to cool it, along and around the shaft 17 between the latter and the bearing 15, to pipes 152, then a pipe 18, which brings the oil back to to tray 2.
The power supply circuit 17 -151 of the converter is also used for lubricating mechanisms and in particular planetary systems. For this purpose, an oil intake is provided on the pipe 151, in the form of an orifice 153, the dimension of the flow section of which can be adjusted by any throttle or diaphragm system, in order to keep the 'supplying the converter with the necessary pressure, while having the necessary and sufficient lubrication flow rate without more.
The oil intake -153 on line 151, has the advantage of using oil before entering the converter, thus benefiting from cooler oil, and to ensure better lubricating conditions with relative cooling of the lubricated mechanisms. The lubricating oil drops through suitable openings in the crankcase 1, into the tank 2.
There are also provided in the oil circuits, manometers 41-42 visible in particular in the diagram of FIG. 6, to control the pressure, respectively, of the oil at the outlet of the converter, and of the oil passing through the valve 40 to ensure the forward and reverse commands.
The oil circuits of the reducer-inverter are further characterized by the arrangements that said reducer-inverter has for the appropriation of the oil in its continuous cycle. These arrangements include - a temperature exchanger 43 (FIG. 6) which is mounted between the pipes 152 -18 at the return of the converter and the tank 2.
This temperature exchanger is of any known type, in the form of a finned radiator or the like, and it is not useful to describe it in detail; - An arrangement of the tank 2 with internal partitions such as shown at 21 for example, these partitions being covered and in the form of corridors, in order to force the oil to circulate in a baffle in said tank, in order to disturb the circulation current by numerous changes of direction, and to establish a first filtering of the oil by decanting it of the impurities which fall on the bottom of the tank, this bottom 22 being inclined to promote emptying and periodic cleaning,
through openings with sealed plugs provided for this purpose; - a magnetic separator shown at 44 in the diagram ma of FIG. 6 and which is fixed to the bottom of the tank 2. This separator is of any known type and it proceeds, as will be understood, by attracting particles and metal waste or other, liable to undergo the magnetic effect. ;
- a filter formed essentially and simply by a wire mesh 45 (fig. 3) fixed to the upper part of the open end of the baffle corridors, so that the flow of oil passes through this filter in an ascending manner, and that, in this displacement from bottom to top, the impurities remain retained under the canvas 45, the oil then rejoi gnant the part of the tank 2 in which _elle -is sucked and put back into circuit by the double pump.
This provision is particularly original and important. In fact, unlike filtering by downward movement which quickly clogs the filters and can very significantly reduce the flow, with this arrangement, the impurities retained under the canvas periodically fall to the bottom of the tank, each time the machine and the movement stop. engine.
The reducer-inverter finally comprises a control valve 40 more particularly - illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 8. The role of this valve is to direct the hydraulic fluid according to several positions and control circuits in order to ensure - neutral setting with simultaneous spraying of the two disc brakes 28-29 and 31-32 which are then loosened; - the forward gear clutch with watering of the disks 28 and 29 of the reverse gear brake which is released;
- the reverse gear clutch with watering of the disks 31 - 32 of the forward gear brake which is released.
Emphasis is placed on the design and constructive and synchronized arrangements in order to ensure that the discs are watered each time they are loosened. This ensures perfect and long-lasting operation with very good preservation of the discs which are regularly cooled and washed by watering.
For this purpose, the body 40 of the valve is established with a longitudinal cylindrical chamber 401 closed at both ends, in a sealed manner, by plugs 46-47. In this chamber slides a control drawer 48 whose axial displacements are controlled by any known system of flexible cable or rod shown at 49 which passes through the end piece 47, and the end of which, not shown, is within reach of the conductor which operates it to produce the commands.
Annular distribution chambers are formed around the chamber 401, and in particular a chamber 402 which receives the fluid supplied by the pipe 39. On the chamber 402 is a branch 403 for connecting the manometer 42 controlling the pressure of the fluid in the chamber. the valve device. From the chamber 402 is also provided a bypass 404 in which is slidably mounted a tubular valve 50 held in a closed position by a calibrated spring 51 to allow the sliding of the valve 50 under a predetermined fluid pressure,
so that the latter can be evacuated through the orifice 501 to reach an evacuation chamber.
Distribution chambers 405 - 40s - $ 407 - $ 40 are still formed around chamber 402. These chambers correspond, respectively - to line 365 which conducts fluid to chamber 362 for the engagement of the planetary system 19 - 22-21 from forward gear by applying the brakes 31-32; - To the pipe 364 which conducts the fluid to the chamber 361 for the purpose of engaging the planetary system 18-25-20 in reverse gear by activating the brake 28-29;
- to the pipe 16 - 341 which leads the fluid for watering the disks 31-32 of the forward gear, and which also constitutes a return without pressure of the fluid to neutral; - To the pipe 15 which conducts the fluid for spraying the disks 28-29 of the reverse gear, and which also constitutes a pressure-free return of the fluid to neutral.
Corresponding clearances are formed along the drawer 48 mainly by the surfaces 481- 482 - 483. Axially, the drawer 48 is established with a pipe 484 and radial holes 485 and 486 which ensure, in the neutral position, the free passage of the fluid, its evacuation and its return to the reservoir tank 2.
The neutral position, which is important, must be well marked and made sensitive for the driver of the machine, which is why a ball 52 is provided, pushed by a spring 53 and retained by crimping in the housing of a screw. -cap 54 screwed into the body 40. This ball cooperates with a countersink 487 of the drawer 48, so as to allow the sliding of said drawer under a voluntary thrust. Of course, the slide 48 is guided by any known means, so as to have a rectilinear axial displacement.
Finally, a device is provided, in a crucial way for the correct operation of this reducer-inverter, which prevents the reversal of the control between forward and reverse, and vice versa, when the engine is running at a sufficiently high speed. so that this reversal could be disastrous for the mechanisms and the driver. In this case, only the neutral focus control remains allowed, the driver having to brake to slow down. The reversal of direction of travel, which is advantageous and saves time, is only permitted to the driver without any danger to the mechanisms, only at a predetermined reduced speed.
For this purpose, a latch 55 is provided which is slidably mounted in a radial housing of the valve body 40 closed off by a plug 56. The end 551 of the latch is capable of cooperating with a notch 488 of the slide which corresponds to the position. neutral point of the ball 52 in the recess 487 of the drawer. A spring 57 calibrated to a judicious thrust value elastically pushes the latch 55 to permanently tend to withdraw the end 551 of the notch 488. In the chamber of the latch 55 ends a bypass taken upstream of the narrow passage 409 established between the latch. oil inlet 39 and chamber 402.
As can be seen in fig. 8, it is possible to adjust the section of passage of the fluid in the constriction 409 by closing it more or less by means of a double threaded rod 56-57 screwed into the body 40 and protected by a plug 58. This adjustment makes it possible to set the safety speed above which the locking takes place automatically since the reversal would be dangerous for the mechanisms.
It is in fact understood that at a certain relatively high speed of the engine and of the machine, the oil throttled at 409 has a sufficiently high pressure, by pressure drop, to push the latch 55 towards the spool 48 by locking the latter to the neutral position if there is, or as soon as notch 488 is opposite if the driver tries a command.
We can see the considerable interest of this automatic safety device.
The operation of the control valve can be considered in four positions - in fig. 7, in neutral, there are two outlets 407-408 of the pressureless fluid which sprinkles the brake discs at the same time as it evacuates; - in fig. 9, we see schematically the valve whose spool 48 has been moved according to the arrow F, the vehicle traveling at reduced speed, which has the effect of supplying the outlet 405 under pressure to put the brake discs 31-32 into friction and engage the planetary system in forward gear.
The output 408 is supplied for watering the loosened discs 28-29 of the reverse gear; - in fig. 10, we see schematically the valve whose spool 48 has been moved according to the arrow FI, the vehicle traveling at reduced speed, which has the effect of supplying the outlet 403 under pressure to put the brake discs 28-29 in friction. and engage the planetary system in reverse. The outlet 407 is supplied for watering the loosened disks 31-32 of the forward gear.
- in fig. 11 schematically shows the slide 48 locked in neutral, a command having been attempted while the vehicle was traveling at a speed greater than the speed limit beyond which the reversal of the direction of travel is dangerous.
The operation of the reducer-inverter with hydraulic torque converter, as a whole, is easy to understand, in particular by considering the diagram of FIG. 5 which illustrates the kinematic chain. It can be seen clearly that the output shaft 17 of the converter carries and drives the two central planets 18 and 19 of the planetary systems 18-25-20 for reverse gear and 19-22-21 for forward gear, these two planetary systems , having a common outlet 231-24.
Each of the two planetary systems can be put into positive action to drive output 231-24, one or the other in turn by immobilizing one of their elements, namely: for the forward, the outer ring 21 of the system 19-22-21 by the action of the discs 31-32, and for reverse gear, the planet carrier 27 of the system 18-25-20 by the action of the discs 28- 29.
To reduce the dead time when switching from the forward control to the reverse control and vice versa, or to switch from neutral to forward or reverse, the dual-circuit pump 13 is fitted with a valve mounted on the partition which separates the two compartments of the pump in a watertight manner, in order to automatically establish, in certain phases of the operation of the reducer-inverter, in particular during orders, communication between the two circuits, this which allows a self-distribution of the hydraulic fluid in proportion to the demand and the need of the circuits during said commands.
As illustrated in fig. 12 to 18, we see the pump 13 with the compartment and the pumping gear elements 131 which send the hydraulic fluid under pressure through the opening 133, to the control valve, and, from there, to the friction discs to water them and to the double udder chambers to control the latter. We also see the compartment and the pumping elements with gear 132 which send the hydraulic fluid under pressure, through the opening 134, to the converter and also, in limited quantity, into the lubricating circuit of the mechanisms.
The gear elements of the two parts of the pump are driven by the toothed wheel 12 with a power take-off from the impeller rotor of the converter, as has been indicated previously.
A watertight partition 59 separates the two compartments 131-132, ensuring total independence of the hydraulic circuits.
It establishes through this partition, between the two compartments, a non-permanent communication by means of a simple valve formed by a shouldered sleeve 60, crimped at 601 to fix it in said sound wall 59. A ball 61 is mounted with a freely in the shouldered portion 602 of the sleeve 60. The inner shoulder of the sleeve constitutes the seat of the valve ball 61. The latter is retained in the shouldered portion 602 by a circular crimping or a simple clamping 603 of the end of the shoulder 602.
Holes 604 are drilled radially in the shoulder 602 to facilitate the circulation of the fluid and its distribution, without hindering or slowing down the flow.
The following are envisaged, in variants: the realization in other forms of the seat sleeve and of the movable closure element, the addition of a seat in flexible material, the addition of a low thrust spring and judiciously crazy to bring the ball back to its seat. The ball can also be made of a material with a certain flexibility, for example plastic.
The automatic operation of this valve is as follows: by the differential clearance of delivery pressures, the 6U-61 valve opens or closes making the two circuits and flow rates common for the same use, or separate for two different uses.
As a result, the clutch circuit> can receive additional flow taken from the converter circuit>, at the time of the device reverse gear command.
Indeed, during the maneuver to switch from forward to reverse for example, when the double-acting piston 35 of the clutch is separated from the discs 31-32 of the forward brake, to press the discs 28-29 of the reverse gear brake - the oil pressure drops to zero and even becomes negative in the clutch circuit and compartment 131, from the start of the piston to neutral, due to the release of the springs and double-acting piston return fingers. There is therefore a call in said circuit and compartment 131;
- at the same time, the valve ball 61 is pushed back (drawn in broken lines, fig. 16), and the flow from the circuit and from the compartment 132 supplying the converter rushes into the compartment 131 and the clutch circuit, by causing a very rapid displacement of the double-acting udder.
This additional supply to the clutch circuit continues as long as the clutch pressure does not balance the pressure in the converter circuit calibrated by the converter valve, that is to say as long as the return springs of the converter valve. piston that is compressed after neutral does not establish this balanced clutch pressure.
As soon as this condition of equilibrium is reached, the ball 61 of the valve gradually approaches its seat (fig. 18) and the two circuits are then separated (fig. 16). The double-acting piston comes into contact with the reverse brake discs and they are tightened slowly and progressively by the reduced flow rate of the clutch circuit alone. At the same time, the converter regains its pressure at the precise moment when it is going to work, that is to say, transmitting the torque by the clutch in action.
The following advantages of these arrangements are emphasized: 1) very rapid displacement of the double-acting piston 35 in its approach strokes, which makes the vehicle's reversal maneuvers extremely quick to respond, while retaining the maximum flexible starting, resulting in increased safety and a saving in operating time; 2) elimination of the discharge pressure in the two circuits, in neutral position or disengaged from the piston, while without the valve, pressure is maintained at the converter permanently, including at neutral, when it is not there is no need.
This results in a reduction in the resistances which the engine must overcome when idling in neutral, consequently in a more economical adjustment of the idling speed, and in fuel economy. In addition, the rolling of the oil in the converter valve is also eliminated, resulting in a reduction in heating; 3) very abundant watering of the disengaged discs. Consequently, abrasion due to the wear of the discs and the mechanics is eliminated to a high degree, resulting in less wear of the apparatus. On the other hand, better cooling of the assembly is obtained by intensive circulation of the oil against the outer walls of the crankcase.
