Quelques formes d'exécution du dispositif selon l'invention sont représentées, à titre d'exemple, aux dessins annexés. La fig. 1 représente, en élévation frontale et en coupe transversale, le moteur électro magnétique d'une forme d'exécution; la fig. 2 en est une vue d'extrémité ; la fig. 3 représente une éléva tion frontale d'une forme d'exécution comprenant un dispositif mécanique à rochet entraîné par ledit mo teur électromagnétique ;
la fig. 4 représente une élé vation frontale d'un autre dispositif à rochet pouvant être entraîné par ledit moteur électromagnétique ; la fig. 5 représente, en élévation frontale et en coupe transversale, un relais électromagnétique dans lequel ledit moteur électromagnétique actionne les contacts ;
la fig. 6 est une vue en plan schématique de la plaque à bornes du relais, illustrant la disposition des con tacts mobiles et stationnaires ; la fig. 7 représente, en élévation frontale et en coupe transversale, une forme d'exécution analogue à un solénoïde ; la fig. 8 représente, en élévation frontale et en coupe trans versale, des détails d'un dispositif analogue mais du type à poussée; la fig. 9 est une vue schématique et en élévation frontale d'un dispositif agissant en tant que moyen tâteur ou de déclenchement d'un inter rupteur de circuit électrique ;
Device comprising an electromagnetic motor The present invention relates to a device comprising an electromagnetic motor and which can constitute, for example, a relay, a ratchet device, or which can actuate a circuit switch or other devices.
Most of the known devices of this kind include, in addition to the active air gap of the core, several other air gaps, due to the design, construction and assembly methods used. These non-active air gaps may be small, however it is they which are responsible, among other things, for losses arising from magnetic leakage fluxes.
The active part of these devices, namely the armature, is generally hinged to a point of the magnetic core, thereby forming, at one end, a movable connection having a high magnetic resistance, while at the end. The other end is provided with a kind of bearing between two surfaces of the magnetic circuit which, taking into account the usual manufacturing methods, provides contact between parts having a specific, inactive air gap, constituting another high magnetic resistance.
By not taking into account the other air gaps existing between the connections of non-moving parts of the usual magnetic devices, it seems fair to notice that these two main magnetic resistances and the magnetic leaks which they cause, must be held responsible for a significant portion of the ampere-turns required for these devices. The usual constructions, mentioned above, of magnetic circuits normally only allow the arrangement of a single supply coil, namely on a stationary arm of the magnetic core and which, moreover, is situated at a considerable distance from the rotating frame.
These traditional constructions of electromagnetic devices normally use at least one spring which returns the armature to its rest position when the supply to the coil is interrupted. Each of these return springs generally requires several additional mounting parts which must be incorporated into known constructions.
Taking into account the above, this. The invention aims to provide a device which eliminates all non-active air gaps, all magnetic resistances except the only functional one and, in addition, the mechanical return spring, this device being extremely simple and compact, with an efficiency of more advantageous and having a minimum of individual parts of economic dimensions.
The invention makes it possible not to take into account in practice the energy required for the magnetization of the metal part of the magnetic circuit, to calculate the ampere-turns required for the magnetization of the only active air gap and to place the coil at the most effective place, namely across and around this air gap. Due to the fact that the magnetic core of the device consists of several lamellae with high permeability and oriented grain, the following additional advantages are automatically obtained: the device operates more economically due to the reduction of losses in the core, it is just as suitable to operate with direct current and alternating current as at different frequencies.
On the other hand, because the core is laminated, it can serve as a spring, which makes it possible to eliminate the mechanical return spring of the frame and its mounting parts, previously necessary. Another advantage derives from the fact that the coil is placed in the most efficient place, since therefore magnetic leakage is reduced, which allows to obtain a particularly efficient action of the magnetic circuit and a coil of excitation having dimensions much smaller than those of the usual devices. Therefore, this results in considerable savings in material, total weight, and expense for the magnetic circuit and the entire device.
These factors can be of decisive importance when using numerous devices in an installation, in order to keep both the total weight and the electrical current consumption of the installation to a minimum.
The device according to the invention can be used as an actual engine, to move mechanical parts; it can constitute an electromagnetic relay or a device similar to an electromagnetic solenoid; it can finally be used as a feeling or triggering device for electrical signaling or protection devices such as circuit switches, or as a vibrator generating electrical, acoustic or visual effects.
Some embodiments of the device according to the invention are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings. Fig. 1 shows, in front elevation and in cross section, the electromagnetic motor of an embodiment ; in FIG. 2 is an end view; fig. 3 shows a front elevation of an embodiment comprising a mechanical ratchet device driven by said electromagnetic motor;
fig. 4 shows a front elevation of another ratchet device capable of being driven by said electromagnetic motor; fig. 5 shows, in front elevation and in cross section, an electromagnetic relay in which said electromagnetic motor operates the contacts;
fig. 6 is a schematic plan view of the relay terminal board, illustrating the arrangement of the mobile and stationary contacts; fig. 7 shows, in front elevation and in cross section, an embodiment similar to a solenoid; fig. 8 shows, in front elevation and in cross section, details of a similar device but of the push type ; FIG. 9 is a schematic front elevational view of a device acting as feeler or trigger means of an electrical circuit switch;
and fig. 10 shows, schematically in front elevation, a positive device acting as an electromagnetic vibrator.
In the drawings, identical references are used for identical or equivalent parts and more particularly in FIGS. 1 and 2, the electromagnetic motor in general is shown in the rest position and comprises a core 10 formed by iron lamellas 12 which constitute the magneti circuit of an excitation coil 14. This core 10 is arranged by relative to the coil 14 so that the only active air slot 16 is located inside the space 18 of the coil and at the center of the length of the latter. The lamellae 12 of the core are packed in a compact stack at the ends 20, 20 'and along the arms 22, 22' of the core, however they are more lightly stacked along the yoke 24 of the core.
The stack of lamellae is fixed by two clamps of a non-ferrous material 26, 26 'arranged so as to be placed level with the carefully machined faces 28, 28' of the core 10. The clamps 26, 26 'can be formed by sections of solid tubes, in this particular case square, if the device is used with a direct current source; however, they must be split or C-shaped, as shown in fig. 2, if the coil is supplied with alternating current, in order to exclude a secondary short circuit.
If, in specific cases, it is necessary for the motor to operate without humming, it is possible to provide a screen ring (not shown and well known in this type of positive device), arranged on face 28 of core 10. The core 10 is arranged in a space 32 remaining between extensions 34, 34 'of the coil body 14. The coil body 14 is equipped with an appropriate number of turns 36 of insulated wire of an appropriate thickness to be able to adapt both to the characteristics of the electric current supply and to the needs of the various operations to be carried out by the electromagnetic motor. The conductors 38, 38 'of the coil are attached to the terminals 40, 40' which can be arranged on two of the four extensions 34 or 34 'of the coil body.
Taking into account what has been said in the introduction on this subject, the coil 14 can be axially very short, for example equal to the length of the air gap 16 remaining between the fa ces 28, 28 'of the core. This, in turn, facilitates the insertion and assembly of the iron core 10.
The operation of the electromagnetic motor described is as follows: if the coil 14 is connected to a source of electric current through its terminals 40, 40 ', it does not matter whether this source is of the direct or alternating type, it is ali current and generates a magnetic field in the air gap 16 and in the magnetic circuit, namely in the iron core 10 partially disposed in the interior space 18 of the coil 14 and surrounded by the coil 14, by means of arms 22, 22 'and yoke 24, the latter three parts of the core forming an integral part with the ends 20, 20' of the core. Due to the resulting magnetic force, the faces 28, 28 'of the core attract each other and remain attracted as long as the coil 14 is supplied with current.
By opening the electric circuit connected to the terminals 40, 40 'of the coil and interrupting the current to the coil 14, the iron core 10 acts as a spring and separates the faces 28, 28' which return to the position shown. felt in fig. 1. It is obvious that it is the slightly stacked lamellas of the yoke 24 of the core 10 which allow this elastic action of the whole core and that it is not necessary to provide an additional mechanical return spring.
The other important characteristics of this electromagnetic motor should be listed here: a) the magnetic circuit takes only a single part serving both as the traditionally known artery and as a core having neither hinge nor stop part or air gaps other than just needed for operational reasons.
This results in a magnetic circuit having as little magnetic repulsion as possible; b) the fact that the core is laminated, in order to provide the action of a mechanical spring, enables the device to be adapted to both direct current and alternating current operations, obtaining essentially equivalent results; c) any roughness or uneven faces of the individual lamellae, existing or forming on the faces 28, 28 'of the core, do not normally oppose the total closure of the active air gap 16, given that they automatically flatten and align with the corresponding and complementary irregularities of the other face of the core, due to the ends of the core 22, 22 'floating freely.
The fact that the single air gap automatically closes further reduces any magnetic repulsion that may have occurred; d) in addition to the properties mentioned above and providing both a considerable reduction in magnetic repulses, up to values which can be accepted in practice, and a significant increase in the magnetic permeability of the entire magnetic circuit, the permeability is increased by the choice of lamellae of a material, for example an alloy, highly permeable and with grain orientation for the construction of the core 10.
The electromagnetic motor described can fulfill different functions in the following embodiments. When the electromagnetic motor is used to rotate a member, one of the possible embodiments may comprise the elements shown schematically in FIG. 3. With respect to the coil 14, the core 10 is arranged in the manner described above and comprises the strips 12, the clamps 26, 26 'and also, if necessary, a screen ring (not shown). A ratchet wheel 42, mounted on a shaft 44, is disposed near the motor.
Two cranks 46, 46 'are fixed to the arms 22, 22' formed by the firmly stacked slats, by means of the bands 48, 48 ', and the other end of the cranks is equipped with pawls 50, 50' pivoting around two axes 52, 52 '. Mechanical springs 54, 54 ', arranged on the corresponding cranks 46, 46' apply the pawls 50, 50 'against the ratchet wheel 42. A stop pawl 51 rotating around a stationary axis 53 and tensioned by a spring Mechanical 55 engages the ratchet wheel 42 so as to prevent the reversal of the direction of rotation of the latter. The operation of the device thus constituted is explained by itself and by the description given born of the electromagnetic motor.
Furthermore, it is obvious that a single crank-pawl assembly 46, 50 may suffice to obtain the desired driving action, as long as the other core arm 22, without the crank, is fixed with respect to the rest of the device. . Conversely, a more continuous or faster rotation of the ratchet wheel can be obtained if the crank 46 is replaced by a longer crank 46 "having an inverted pawl 50" applied by its mechanical spring 54 "against the wheel 42, as shown in Fig. 4.
Obviously, many additional ratchet-ratchet wheel combinations are possible in order to achieve specific movements of the ratchet wheel shaft 44. It is also evident that the movement of the shaft 44 can be used for the implementation of an infinite variety of applications requiring propulsions in only one direction, or else reversible or even oscillating.
An electromagnetic relay comprising the electromagnetic motor described is shown in FIG. 5. The laminated iron core 10 is disposed in and around the coil 14 in a manner similar to that shown for the arrangement of FIG. 1; it is therefore arranged in the spaces 32, 32 'of the extensions 34, 34' of the coil body. Other extensions 56, 58, 60 of the coil body serve as spacers for the motor in the relay enclosure 62 and from the relay contacts 64, 66, 68. Another extension of the spool body 70 serves as a mounting bearing for a spindle 72 carrying a lever 74.
The upper end 76 of the latter engages in an eyelet 78 punched in an extension 80 of a clamp 82. Just like the corresponding part 26 of the motor of FIG. 1, this clamp 82 fixes the strips 12 of the core 10 in the manner described above.
The stationary contacts, namely those marked by 64 and 68, as well as the moving contact marked by 66, are made of a material which conducts the current, but elastic, such as beryllium copper or phosphor bronze and, at the same time at one end, they are permanently attached to the inner ends of pins 84, 86, 88 passing through a terminal board and arranged as shown in FIG. 6. Further, FIG. 6 shows the contacts and pins 90, 92, 94 of another set of unipolar switching contacts, which highlights the bipolar switching characteristics of this particular embodiment.
The other two pins 96, 98 of the terminal board are used as coil terminals and the two coil conductors 100, 102 are permanently attached to the inner part of said pins. In order to avoid dielectric losses and to isolate the electrical circuits, an insulating plate 104 is placed directly against the terminal plate 106. The latter comprises the required number of pins 84, 86, 88, 90, 92, 94, 96 and 98, embedded in glass insulators 108 which are fixed to the terminal plate 106. The latter has a clearance 110 to allow the installation of the relay enclosure 62 as well as its subsequent fixing. If necessary, the core 10 can be fixed by means of a clamp 112 between the extensions 34 of the coil body.
The winding of the coil is arranged in the part 114 of the coil body 14. In this case too, the operation of the coil comprising the electromagnetic motor is easily explained. When the coil 14 is connected to a source of electric current by means of its terminals 96, 98, it is supplied with current, it magnetizes the core 10 and generates the mutual attraction of the faces of the poles. This causes the rotation of the lever 74 around the pin 72 and the displacement of the movable contacts, such as that shown at 66, which remain in this position as long as the coil 14 is supplied with current.
By interrupting the coil supply, the parts of the relay with the moving contacts return to the normal position shown in fig. 5 and 6. It should be noted that the relay shown includes a minimum of parts such as pins, screws, nuts, which considerably increases the safety of the service. In addition, the moving parts of the relay are perfectly balanced, resulting in a construction that resists adverse influences, such as shocks, vibrations and acceleration.
The absence of customary assembly parts enables them to reduce the dimensions of this relay as well as to manufacture it economically to the desired dimension in order to enable it to absorb electric charges of considerable value. In the latter case, the relay will be fitted with heavy-duty mounting means rather than the plug-type terminal plate.
Another embodiment is shown schematically in FIG. 7. One clearly recognizes the motor comprising the laminated iron core 10 placed inside and around the excitation coil 14, these two parts being installed in an enclosure 116 and the latter being provided with mounting means 118. A clamp 26 is provided as in the previous devices, while the other pin 120 is provided with an extension 120 'both allows assembly to a connector 122 which, in turn, engages a plunger at its opposite end. 124. The other end of the latter is provided with a means 126 serving to fix the members which must be actuated by the device.
The plunger 124 is guided by a socket 128 which forms part of the housing 116 of the device. Unless the device is used to actuate two plungers simultaneously, the core arm 22 is held stationary relative to the housing by means of a rib 130 which forms an integral part of the spool body 14. A cover (not shown) ) can be arranged above the enclosure and can be fixed to the latter by means of screws corresponding to the boreholes 132. The borehole 134 of the sleeve 128 can be of round or poly gonal cross section. This last form prevents any play of the plunger, as well as damage that may possibly be inflicted on the parts of the device.
The coil conductors 136, 136 'of the winding 36 are supplied by means of an insulating plate 137 to two terminals 138, 138' capable of being re-linked to a source of electric current. While the device shown in FIG. 7 is of the pull type, that of the push type can be easily obtained by means of several well known mechanisms and fittings. In any event, the device envisaged here, equipped with an electromagnetic motor, also constitutes, from this point of view, a considerable improvement compared to what is known.
In order to obtain a device of the push type, it suffices to replace the clamp assembly 26, 120, 120 'by that comprising the parts 26', 120 "and 120" 'and to immobilize the arm 22' of the core with respect to the entire device by means of an extension 130 'as shown in FIG. 8. In this case too, the connector 122 serves as a connection to the plunger 124.
The operation of this device is easily explained. When the solenoid coil 14 is connected to a source of electric current, it is supplied with current and magnetizes the core 10, which generates the attraction of the faces 28 of the core and a pushing or pulling action of the plunger 124 , depending on the mechanism envisaged. By interrupting the electric current, the normal position is reestablished, as can be seen from fig. 7 or 8.
A device with an electromagnetic motor acting as a tripping element of an electric circuit interrupter is shown schematically in fig. 9. The electromagnetic motor comprising the core 10 and the coil 14 is disposed on a base plate 140 of the circuit switch so that an appropriately shaped extension 142 carried by one of the core clamps stops or resets. releases a circuit interrupt mechanism. The other clamp 26 of the core is provided in the usual way. Due to the simplicity of the circuit interrupt mechanism, chosen at random, it may be advantageous to describe its construction together with its operation.
The circuit switch shown in the closed position is connected to a source of electric current by means of its terminals 144, 146. Its internal circuit, starting for example at terminal 144, continues in series, through the intermediary of 'a conductor 148, to the coil 14, then through a flexible conductor 150 to a movable circuit interrupting contact 152 and to a stationary contact 154 which may form an integral part with the other terminal 146 of the circuit switch. The coil 14 is executed so as to be able to conduct a limited current for an indefinite period and the iron core 10 is executed so as to remain inactive if it is magnetized by the magnetomotive force generated by this current in the coil.
However, under an overload or excessive current and taking into account that the arm 22 of the core is made stationary by the extension 156 of the coil body, the free arm 22 'of the core is attracted towards the other. extension of the latch-type clamp 142 and releases the movable contact 152. This is facilitated by means of a compression spring 158 which rotates the movable contact 152 around a bearing 160 formed by the edge of a member. U 162, independently of a handle 164 which pivots about an axis 165.
The series circuit is now open, which not only eliminates the possibly dangerous overload which had existed previously, but also interrupts the supply to the electromagnetic motor coil and returns it to the position shown in fig. . 9. The trigger also releases the force transmitted from the movable contact 152 to the member 162 and, then, to the handle 164, so that the latter can rotate to its open position under the action of a return spring ( not shown). This allows the spring 158 to lift the movable contact 152, now resting on the edge 160 of the member 162, thus preparing the entire circuit breaker assembly for the next operation. circuit closure.
Various conventional parts of the circuit switch, well known but which are not essential to an understanding of the operation of the device shown, have been omitted in order not to clutter up the drawing. It should also be noted that the circuit breaker described is only of the unipolar type; however, it is also suitable for controlling multi-pole switches of any type or power.
The electromagnetic motor device can also constitute a vibrator operating rapidly and without loss under pulsations, either external or generated by self-generation. While the first mode of operation is self-explanatory, the last is described with the support of an electromagnetic motor device shown schematically in FIG. 10.
The iron core 10, disposed in and around the excitation coil 14, is equipped with a simple clamp 26 at one end of the core and which is immobilized by an extension 171 of the coil body, while the the other end of the core carries a clamp 170 provided with an elongated arm 172 carrying at its end two contact points 174 and 176 corresponding respectively to stationary contact points 174 'and 176'.
If the device shown in fig. 10 is connected to a direct current source, the coil 14 is supplied with current, thus causing the magnetization of the core 10, the mutual attraction of the faces 28 of the latter, the closing of the contacts 174 and 174 'and the short- circuiting and subsequent interruption of current in the coil circuit. The elastic action of the core 10 then provides the opening of the contacts 174, 174 'and, due to the recoil action, the closing of the contacts 176, 176', however only momentarily since the short circuit of the coil has been removed and the coil circuit has been reestablished.
As a result, a vibration of the core of the electromagnetic motor is obtained which continues as long as the circuit shown in fig. 10 is supplied with current. The particular device shown is used to convert direct current to alternating current, and includes a transformer.
