With an elastic sealing ring provided seal for mutually movable parts In known seals for mutually movable parts applied sealing rings, z. B. Kol benmanschetten, U-rings with V-shaped cross-section, etc., have the common disadvantage that they cause a relatively large friction loss. In addition, z. B. such a groove ring can only be used for sealing in one direction, with the added risk that his lips spread by the excess pressure are compressed and damaged.
It has also already been proposed to clamp a ring of round cross section between two mutually movable parts in a sealing manner, with play being provided in the axial direction of this ring. This type of seal requires a very precise and thus expensive production of the groove provided for receiving the ring in one part, as well as the surface of the other part and finally the ring itself, so that its wear and the friction values remain within tolerable limits.
An arrangement of the sealing ring with a round cross-section in such a way that the ring is kept on its circumference with a certain bias only on one of the parts to be sealed against each other, while it has play against the other part and in the axial direction, creates improved friction conditions However, such a training is not suitable for sealing against a pressure that is slowly building up, because the ring must first be brought into contact with a counter bearing and until then it has no sealing effect.
It is the object of the invention to provide a seal with an elastic sealing ring which avoids the disadvantages mentioned with simple manufacture and easy installation and is suitable for both one and two-sided pressurization. The sealing contact pressure of the ring should always be only as strong as is necessary for the seal, so that the frictional resistance remains limited to a minimum level in any case.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the elastic sealing ring is subdivided into interconnected sections by at least one groove running in its circumferential direction and open towards the side facing away from its friction surface, of which the two outer or outermost walls are pretensioned on lateral limiting walls abut a recess which is provided for receiving the sealing ring in one of the parts to be moved towards one another.
In the drawing, various execution examples of the subject invention are shown in a schematic manner.
In Fig. 1 is a partially shown, geschnit tener piston plate, for. B. a brake cylinder piston of a compressed air brake device for rail vehicles with 1 designated, which rod of a piston 3 is carried. This piston plate has a recess 5 on its circumference, which is divided into two spaces 9 and 11 by a central web 7. An elastic sealing ring 13 is inserted into the recess 5, the groove 15 of which extends in the circumferential direction and engages around the central web 7.
The ring 13 rests with bead-like projections 17 and 19 of its two outer sections, formed by the groove and connected to one another by a central section, with a slight bias on the mutually facing side walls of the chambers 9 and 11 and also it touches with its outer circumference 21 the inner surface 23 of a brake cylinder, otherwise not shown. The mentioned groove is open on the side facing away from the friction surface 21 of the ring. Two z.
B. made of plastic rings 25 and 27, which are inserted in the spaces 9 and 11 of the recess 5 of the piston head 1 in the manner shown in the drawing, contribute to the Fixie tion of the sealing ring 13. These rings 25 and 27, which represent an additional aid, are, however, not absolutely necessary for the function of the seal according to the invention and can therefore also be omitted.
When the piston 1 is not acted upon, the sealing ring 13 assumes the position shown in FIG. 1, with its beads 17, 19 and at 21 resting against opposing surfaces with a slight bias. To carry out compressed air braking, an overpressure in the direction indicated by the arrow direction in FIG. 1 builds up, increasing in the required manner. As long as this overpressure does not overcome the tension of the ring 13 before, the same retains its shape and position shown in Fig. 1, wherein it seals off at its various contact points.
However, when the preload is overcome, as shown in FIG and groove 15 enters the space 11, wherein the Liche ring portion in this space acts as a non-return valve. The overpressure building up in space 11 compresses the ring in the manner shown in FIG. 2 and it increases the pressure of the bead 19 and especially of the ring section 21 according to the rise in the overpressure of the air.
The distance of the beads 17, 19 from the cylinder surface 23 as well as the depth and shape of the groove 15 are such that under the increasing overpressure of the air, in any case, the bead 17 first flips off from the opposing surface and there is a pressure on the ring the surface 23 is acted upon so that the section 21 cannot lift off the surface 23.
With the pressurization shown in FIG. 2, the ring 27 prevents the sealing ring 13 from swelling into the joint between the piston head 1 and the cylinder wall 23, while the ring 25 provided for the opposite direction of the overpressure remains inoperative in this case .
As the above explanations show, the initially only very small pressure of the ring 13 on the base 23 is reinforced by the overpressure that builds up only to a mass corresponding to the level of this overpressure. This keeps the friction losses to a minimum.
The web 7, which exerts or can exert an additional holding force on the sealing ring 17, also fulfills the further task that, in the event of any inaccuracies in shape and installation, the piston plate is supported in the groove 15 by means of this web and therefore not metallic contact between it and the cylinder wall 23 may come.
The sealing ring 13 can also be formed with a smooth upper surface without the beads 17, 19. The system on the two side walls basically remains the same.
The described mode of operation of the sealing ring 13 also applies to two-sided pressurization of the piston 1, the overpressure resulting from the difference in the pressures in one of the chambers 9, 11 exerting the supporting force on the sealing ring 13.
In Fig. 3 an embodiment of the inven tion is shown in which the sealing ring 13 is mounted in a provided in the fixed part 29, in turn a web 31 containing groove 33 and with its inner peripheral portion 21 on the, compared to the part 29 relatively moving part 35 fits you tight. The operation of the sealing ring is the same as in the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, so that it does not need to be written again.
In Fig. 4 an embodiment is shown in which in the divided by the web 7 in the two spaces 9 and 11 recess 5 of the Kol benteller 1, an elastic sealing ring 37 of triangular cross-section is used, which with its edge 39 sealingly on the surface 23 lies. The ring 37 is in the same way as the ring according to FIGS. 1 and 2 with a groove 41 over the web 7 ge. In this case, the two edges 43 and 45 replace the beads 17 and 19 of the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2.
Under the effect of a building up over pressure there is also in this game Ausführungsbei a folding down of one of the edges 43 or 45 with the further consequences already described in connection with FIGS. 1 and 2.
The sealing ring with a triangular cross-section is particularly suitable for smaller excess pressures, but guarantees the lowest possible friction values.
An embodiment of a sealing ring with which these small friction values can also be achieved, but which is also suitable for larger pressure differences due to its shape, is shown in FIG. This ring 47 has the cross-section shown in the figure and with its beads 49, 51 and its edge 53 rests in a sealing manner on the opposite surfaces of the recess 5 or on the opposite surface 23. The web 7 of the piston plate 1 in turn protrudes into a groove 55.
When overpressure is applied, the processes described in connection with FIGS. 1 and 2 take place, the position of the surfaces of the ring 47 exposed to the overpressure ensuring that there is no separation of the web 7 and the annular groove 55 and an impermissible displacement of the sealing ring occurs. The sealing ring 57 according to FIG. 6 differs from the previous examples with the same mode of operation in turn by a different shape of its cross section. Instead of beads, it has lips 58 and 59 for sealing contact with the walls of spaces 9 and 11 in piston head 1.
In Fig. 7 an embodiment is shown in which the piston head 1, although the recess 5 for receiving a sealing ring, but does not have a web dividing this recess. In the recess 5, an elastic sealing ring 63 is inserted, which with its two lips 65 and 67, formed by a flat groove of the ring and forming the outer sections of the ring, rests against the walls of the recess 5 with a slight bias.
Under an overpressure setting on one side of the piston plate 1, compressed air flows over the folding lip 65 or 67 into the space 69 of the recess 5 and there exerts a force on the pressing of the ring 63 against the surface 23 and thus its sealing effect same off.
The sealing ring 63 is also suitable for both one and two-sided application of the piston ge, but if there is no web in the recess 5, it is especially for smaller overpressures, such as. B. occur in vacuum systems, determined.
In accordance with the inventive teaching, the cross-sectional shape of a sealing ring and the size of its surfaces exposed to compressed air and their mutual position, as well as the shape and depth of the groove provided on it, can be designed so that sufficient tightness is achieved with a minimum of friction loss.
The invention was explained with reference to different ge shaped sealing rings for pistons of compressed air braking devices. However, it is not limited to seals in this field of application.
