Spektrometer
2-d sin i = n i, worin il = i2 = i ist.
2 d cos 2 (N1N2)
spectrometer
The invention relates to a spectrometer with a flat diffraction grating.
The invention is particularly, but not exclusively, suitable for use in infrared spectrometers. In such a spectrometer, the previously made parallel beams are thrown onto a flat diffraction grating, which can be an original or a copy, through which they are diffracted. Some of the diffracted rays will reinforce each other if the following condition is met: d-sin + -sin == n., Where d is the grating spacing, ii is the angle of incidence, i is the angle of diffraction,), the wavelength of the waves under consideration, and n is a represents whole number indicating the order of the spectrum.
This equation is often referred to as the grid equation. Fig. I of the accompanying drawings relates to the above equation.
For infrared spectrometers the lattice equation is:
2-d sin i = n i, where il = i2 = i.
When the grating is rotated at constant angular velocity, dA di -CI -) - dt-dt and is constant (assuming i is small), so that a good approximation of a linear wavelength scale is made.
The invention now seeks to create means for rotating a flat diffraction grating with the aid of a screw in such a way that there is an exact linear relationship between the revolutions of the screw and the reciprocal wavelength or the wave number.
The invention relates to a spectrometer with a planar diffraction grating rotatable about an axis running parallel to its line, characterized by a lever arm firmly connected to the grating to transmit the movement to the grating and by an actuator which acts on the lever arm and which is connected to the Lever arm is in contact, the lever arm or its extension going through the axis of rotation of the grid, the part of the actuating member in contact with the lever arm has a circular cross-section and the actuating member can be moved in such a direction under the action of a member with measurable displacement that the center of the part with circular cross-section moves on a straight line passing through the axis of rotation of the grid.
The attached drawing shows:
Fig. 1 shows the path of the incident and the deflected rays,
2 to 4 different embodiments of the spectrometer according to the invention.
In Fig. 2, P is a planar diffraction grating, which is rotatable about an axis A running parallel to the lines on its surface. AB is a straight arm firmly connected to the grid, which itself or its extension passes through the pivot point A of the grid. The arm AB is actuated by a member C, the part of which in contact with the arm AB has a circular cross-section and which is forced to move in a straight line through A when the micrometer screw M is turned. The axis of this screw M can best be arranged in continuation of the line OA, where O is the center of the part with a circular cross-section. The arm AB is pressed against the organ C by a spring S, and a fixed straight guide EF is provided, along which the flat part of the organ C slides.
The screw is provided with a rounded end which touches a hardened surface part of the organ C.
The organ C can be tapered in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, for. B. conical, so that by moving the organ C perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, the required movement of the lever AB comes about.
For the number of vibrations Nl in cm) let the angle of incidence i; for the number of vibrations N2 this grows to i + a; Furthermore, the micrometer screw M is adjusted by h, then the following applies to the first order: sin i =? / 2d = 1 / 2dN1 = r / AO where it is assumed that BAO was made equal to the angle of incidence i and r is the radius of the at AB tangent part with a circular cross-section of the organ C is. If the angle BAO is made equal to the angle of incidence for one setting of the grating, then the angles will also remain the same for the other settings.
This gives sin (i + α) = 1 / 2dN2 = r / AO-h for the first order, from which follows r = (d in cm) 2 d (NI-N2) If d is measured in microns and n is the order of the spectrum is then
10,000 hn r =
2 d (NlN2) If the grid spacing is 2400 lines per 25.4 mm, i.e. d = 10.583 microns and if the adjustment h of the micrometer screw is 2 mm for a change in the number of vibrations of 100 in the first order of the spectrum, then r = 10 000 Î 2 / 2d Î 100 = 100 / d = 100 / 10.583 = 9.449 m and 2 r = 18.898 mm
3 shows a variant for transmitting the micrometer movement to the organ C.
A wedge-shaped part is either firmly connected to the organ C or is made in one piece with it, so that the straight line FG is a continuation of EF. The end of the micrometer screw M presses on the side GH, so that the organ C is pushed to the left along the straight line EG when the screw M is advanced. If the angle FGH is equal to and the micrometer screw is advanced a distance S, then the organ C moves a corresponding distance S ctg ,. Such a design allows an accurate micrometer scale to be made, since only the angle FGH changed to who needs to achieve the desired result.
Fig. 4 shows yet another embodiment, in which a lever JK pivotably mounted at J is arranged, which moves the organ C in the direction LOA when the screw M acting at point N is advanced. Where the lever arm JK touches the end of the screw at N and the organ C at L, these are spherical.
For the general case shown in FIG. 1, in which the angles of incidence and diffraction are different, the following applies: d [sin 11 + sin (i, +?) = NA, where 6 is equal to i2-il and is constant for a specific spectrometer . Furthermore: sin i1 + sin (i1 +?) = 2 sin (i1 +? / 2) cos? / 2 = n? / D and in the first order is: sin (i1 +? / 2) =? / 2 d cos (? / 2)
Here, too, a linear oscillation number scale can be achieved if the angle BAO is made equal to i1 + 2.
In this case r = hn (d in cm)
2 d cos 2 (N1N2)
If d is measured in microns then r = 10,000 hn / 2 d cos? / 2 (N1-N2)
With an adjustment of the micrometer screw by h = 2 mm and for a change (Ni-N2) of the number of vibrations of 100 in the first order
100 r = dcos
2 where r is expressed in mm.
In the above description, exemplary embodiments with screws were shown, but other means of transferring motion to the actuating element can also be used, provided that its advance can be easily measured.
