Device for actuating cable brakes on bicycles The invention relates to a device for actuating cable brakes on bicycles, which is characterized in that it is formed from a holding piece fastened in the end of the bicycle handlebar and a tensioning element which cooperates with this and is connected to the brake cable, which is pivotable in one plane with respect to the holding piece for the purpose of actuating the brake.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing. It shows: FIG. 1 a longitudinal section through the device in the position of the parts according to which the brake is released, FIG. 2 a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1, FIG. 3 a horizontal section through the device , with parts being drawn in plan, and FIG. 4 shows a longitudinal section analogous to FIG. 1, the parts being shown in the position with the brake applied.
The device is intended for arrangement on the handlebar 1 of a bicycle. It comprises a cylindri cal retaining piece 2, which is set into the end of the handlebar and connected to the latter. The holding piece 2 has a slot 3 on its outer end and a guide groove 4 on the side facing upwards.
As a further member of the device, a cylindrical clamping member 5 is also provided, the end of which facing the handlebar has a smaller diameter cylindrical extension 6, to which a nose 7 connects, which is in the slot 3 of the holding piece 2 and a rotational movement of the clamping organ 5 prevented about its axis, but allows pivoting from the position of FIG. 1 into the one according to FIG. The tensioning member 5 also has a longitudinal groove 8 which extends from the outer end to the nose 7 and after Mon days of the tensioning member in the extension of the Füh approximately groove 4 is.
In the guide groove 4 of the holding piece 2 and in the longitudinal groove 8 of the clamping member 5, the end facing away from the nose 7 be fastened cable 9 of the wire brake is inserted. A flexible sleeve 10, which is closed at one end and whose open end lies above the end of the handlebar 1, is placed over the tensioning element 5. It is not necessary to fasten the tensioning element 5 on the handlebar 1 or on the holding piece 2, in that it is held in position by the brake cable 9 and assumes the position shown in FIG. 1 when the brake is released.
To operate the brake, the clamping organ 5 with the enclosing sleeve 10 only needs to be brought into the inclined position shown in FIG. 4, the pivoting about one of the guide groove 4 diametrically opposite point 11 of the handlebar 1 takes place. The angle of inclination that the axis of the clamping organ 5 forms with that of the holding piece 2 is decisive for the braking force exerted by the brake. By setting a larger or smaller angle of inclination, the braking force can be adapted to the required amount.
When the tension member is released, it is automatically moved back into the inoperative position according to FIG. 1 by the brake cable 9.
When bicycles are equipped with front and rear brakes, an actuating device is arranged at each end of the handlebar, so that either one or the other or both brakes can be operated. The device is simple in design and easy to attach to a handlebar.
