Electric Fan The invention relates to an electric fan which creates a reciprocating air flow.
Electric fans of this type usually have a reciprocating fan head that slowly moves the air flow back and forth. The pivoting movements of the fan head are generally controlled by a gear and crank mechanism driven by a fan motor.
The always exposed gear and crank mechanism and even more the usually sharp-edged fan blades pose a certain risk. The frequently used blade cage offers little protection, as the blades are still easily accessible. The danger caused by the rotating fan blades and the moving mechanism is all the greater since fans of this type are often used in homes and are easily accessible for children and pets.
The swiveling fan head makes a pretty and modern design of the fan impossible. In addition, a relatively large weight of the fan is necessary, especially its lower part, since the center of gravity of the fan, when it is in operation, constantly shifts and must be balanced by the weight of the lower part in every position of the fan head.
It has also already been proposed to achieve the swinging of the air flow back and forth with the aid of guide plates which go back and forth and which are arranged directly in front of the fan blades. Because of their low effectiveness and the formation of eddies, such fans have not found widespread use. In addition, such fan types require relatively complicated and expensive gear drives. Parts of these drives are exposed and, in addition, a relatively heavy lower part is necessary here, since the center of gravity of the fan is not attached in the center of the fan housing.
The subject of the present invention is an electric fan which has a tubular part forming a wind tunnel, one end of which forms the intake side and the other end forms the exit side of the wind tunnel, in which tubular part a propeller is rotatably mounted on the intake side, which drives an air flow through the part forming the wind tunnel, and in which tubular part on the outlet side an air flap device is provided with several parallel air flaps each rotatable about a longitudinal axis,
wherein an electric motor for driving the propeller is arranged in the tubular part between the propeller and the air flap device, and a drive device for the air flap device, which gives the air flaps a to-and-fro rotation through a certain angle, is provided which over a control device is driven by the shaft of the elec tromotors, for the purpose of periodically changing the direction of the air flow exiting between the air flaps from the wind duct.
Such a design of an electric fan enables a new, attractive and modern design in which all moving parts are fully enclosed and inaccessible.
The fan can be designed so that the center of gravity is in the middle of the housing, so that a relatively light and small lower part is sufficient to tilt the fan housing on an axis, since the center of gravity is neither with a tilting movement of the fan nor when moving the air flaps to and fro relative to the lower part.
A friction drive device is expediently provided in order to impart the above-mentioned reciprocating movements to the air flaps. Such a friction drive device offers the advantage of great simplicity and cheapness, since no gears and reversing systems are required for this purpose.
The air flaps are advantageously arranged so that they are dynamically balanced during their operation in order to reduce their load on the motor via the friction drive device and to enable them to be set in any direction when their drive is switched off this direction to give off a constant stream of air.
The total weight and size of the fan can be reduced considerably by reducing the size and weight of the lower part, and it is possible to use an electric motor with minimal power for a certain air flow output if the air flaps are switched off by the motor when the device is started will. By arranging the drive device on top of the engine, in a space that is not used out in the usual designs, the size can be further reduced.
A common control device is expediently provided for controlling the circuit of the fan motor and for actuating the drive device. This common control device then ensures that the load on the air flaps does not act on the fan motor before it has reached a sufficient speed.
This has the advantage that the air flaps can be moved back and forth with a motor of lower power than would be possible if the air flaps could be connected to the engine, even if only accidentally, when starting, resulting in a greater starting rotation moment would be necessary.
The drive device is advantageously set up to change the speed of the back and forth movement of the air flaps without the need to change the number of revolutions of the motor.
The air flaps are expediently arranged at such a distance from one another and kept wide enough to ensure good air deflection and quiet operation of the fan.
A housing is expediently provided which contains all moving parts in such a way that they can be installed and removed without the use of tools. Such a design of the fan facilitates cleaning and repairing the Ventila sector. In the drawing, an example from implementation of the subject invention and a variant are shown.

1 is a substantially annular fan housing. It consists of thin sheet metal or preferably made of plastic, since the actual housing does not need to carry the weight of the fan mechanism, as can be seen from the description below. The housing is preferably arranged on a stand 2 and is pivotable about a horizontal axis.
Seen in the direction of the air flow through the housing, the fan mechanism has the fan blades 3, a fan motor 4 and an air flap device 5 (FIG. 11). By arranging the motor between the fan blades and the air damper device, a compact design is achieved whose width in the direction of the housing axis is much smaller than that of the usual fans of comparable size.
With this arrangement of the fan blades and the air flaps, the fan blades are located at a considerable distance from the Luftklap pen, so that the fan blades do not have to work in the field or against the resistance of any Luftmas sen that are momentarily slowed down or diverted by the air flaps.
Furthermore, this arrangement enables the air to fold and the fan blades to shift the center of gravity of the motor and the driven elements exactly into the center of the fan housing 1.
The housing consists of two generally annular parts 6 and 7 which fit together so that they form the housing. The two parts are completed by wire mesh 8 and 9, which are used to prevent injury to people or pets by the rotating fan blades ver while protecting the fan mechanism from damage. The wire mesh 9 on the front of the fan is preferably reinforced by crossing rods 10 and 11 which can carry a company sign 12.
The inner wall of the housing is worked out as a circular cylinder, either by giving the inner peripheral wall of parts 6 and 7 a corresponding shape or in which, as shown, a cylinder 13 is made of thin sheet metal or plastic, which is introduced into the housing and spaces 13 'releases. The inside of the fan is in fact a wind channel through which a straight air stream, which is relatively free of eddies, is forced through the fan blades 3.
The cylinder 13 also serves to fix the wire mesh 8 within the housing part 6. For this purpose, the wire mesh 8 has an extension part 8 'between the cylinder and a corresponding wall part of the housing part 6. The extension part is bent so that it forms a shoulder which rests on a corresponding shoulder 6' of the housing part 6, such as is best seen in FIG. The wire mesh 9 is held in that its edge on the reinforced edge 7 'of the housing part 7 rests. This reinforced edge is chamfered outwards so that the air flow deflected by the air flap device is directed and limited, as will be explained in detail below.
In order to achieve the greatest possible effectiveness, the fan blades 3 are arranged in such a way that they protrude from the rear housing part 6 with approximately two thirds of the fan blade surface. The wire mesh 8 accordingly extends beyond the rear housing part 6 in order to be able to accommodate the protruding part of the fan blades 3.
In order to achieve a wide angle of the air flow going back and forth, the housing part 7 has recessed or concave incisions 110 on its front side edges, as can best be seen in FIG. 2, whereby an obstruction of the air flaps 15 at a high angle is deflected air through the housing is prevented.
The air flap device shown in Fig. 8 to 10 in detail has a plurality of strip-shaped air flaps 15 made of thin sheet metal or plastic, of which four flaps are shown. The flaps are arranged in the housing part 7 perpendicular to the axis of the fan, in such a way that their front parts protrude beyond the recessed sides 110 of the housing part 7. For this purpose, flat metal or plastic strips 16 and 17 are attached to diametrically opposite sides of the housing part 7. These strips represent the mounting bases in which the bearings for the air flaps are formed.
The air flaps are attached in such a way that they are rotatable about their longitudinal center axis, which in the middle of the air flap are approximately in line with the recessed sides 110 of the housing part 7. Each air flap has center pins 18 and 19 for this purpose. Since the material of the air flaps is very light, stiffening ribs 20 are preferably provided. The bearing points of the four air flaps in the base strip 17 are designed as depressions or cups 21 into which the preferably pointed center pins 18 extend. The opposite pins 19 can be rotated. be arranged in similar storage cups; but preferably the air flaps are pen in the axial direction under spring pressure to prevent the rattling of the air flaps during operation.
Leaf springs 22 are shown as suitable, spring-loaded bearings for the air flaps, with a leaf spring being provided for every two air flaps. The springs are fixed to the base strip 16, for example by one or more rivets 23, and each free end of the spring has a bearing cup 24 into which the preferably pointed end of a pin 19 extends through a hole 16 ′ in the strip 16 . It is evident that the pressure of the springs 22 brings the air flaps into close engagement with their upper bearing cups 21. It is of course possible to provide bearings under spring pressure for both center pins of the air flaps or bearings under spring pressure in the base strip 17.
The width of the air flaps is such that they do not overlap in any pivoting position, but rather that slots for the passage of a straight air flow between adjacent air flaps remain in every angular position of the air flaps.
In order to achieve a common back and forth pivoting movement of the air flaps, they are connected by a coupling device. This coupling device has a tongue 25 which extends laterally from each air flap. Each tongue has a headed pin 26 which serves to receive and releasably hold a loop 27 of wire 28. The opening of each loop of the preferably somewhat resilient wire 28 is slightly less than the diameter of the shaft of the headed pin 26 so that the wire is securely held by the pins and fits snugly around the pins to avoid rattling or noise and to make adherence to tight tolerances superfluous.
It is obvious that the pins 26 can rotate within the loops 27, whereby the wire 28 is generally axially mediated reciprocating movements, which of course allow the arc described by the tongues 25, a corresponding back and forth Return movement of the air flaps about their longitudinal center axes. The pins 26 are preferably arranged in a felt support ring with a lubricating base in order to reduce the friction under the tight fit of the spring wire loops 27 to a minimum.
As the air flaps swing back and forth about their longitudinal center axis, a dynamic balance is achieved in the work of the air flaps, where the pressure of the air that hits one side from the center equalizes the pressure of the air that comes up the other side strikes, so that the force to be emitted by the motor 4 for the reciprocating movement of the air flaps, as described below, is only the force necessary to overcome the friction of the air flap device. However, this friction is limited to a minimum by the arrangement of the air flaps described above.
A two-pole motor with a generally U-shaped field core 30 is advantageously used as the electric motor. The flat lower part of such a Ker Nes allows the drive and control device of the fan to be conveniently arranged on it, as will be described in detail below. The protruding on both sides of the rotor drive shaft of the motor lies with its axis on the same axis as that of the cylinder 13 and intersects the pivot axis of the fan housing 1, which is pivotable about the axes of the support 85, as will be described in detail below .
The end 31 of the shaft carries the fan blades and is guided by a bearing formed in a plate 32. This plate 32 is attached to the engine by means of support columns 33. The other end 31 'of the shaft is used to actuate the drive device and is preferably offset for this purpose. The motor is supported in the fan housing by two laterally extending support arms. Each support arm consists of two parallel rods 35 and 36 which pass through. the U-shaped parts 37 (Fig. 6) can be attached to the engine. The rods can either be attached directly to the engine or to a plate that is provided on the engine for this purpose.
The free ends of the rods 35 and 36 are attached to a mounting plate 38 and 39 through which a hole 39 (Fig. 13) extends. By arranging the motor centrally between the plates 38 and 39 and by arranging the fan blades at one end of the motor and the air damper device at the other end, the center of gravity of the device is essentially in the center of the housing 1 and on the axis of the holes 39 ', so that it does not shift with respect to the lower part 2 when the housing is tilted about the axis of the holes 39', as described below. The motor is connected to a power source by means of a connecting cable 105.
In order to prevent an unnecessary load on this cable, this is preferably guided around guide pins 106, 107 and 108 which extend from the inner wall of the housing part 7, as best shown in Fig. 3, whereby a relief of the connec tion cable is achieved .
The drive device serves to transmit the rotation of the motor shaft to the air flap device in order to impart the necessary back and forth movements to the air flaps. The control device is used to control the motor circuit and the drive device independently of one another.
The drive device includes a shaft 40 on which a large wheel 41 and a small wheel 42 are arranged in order to achieve the corresponding transmission ratio. The wheel 41 cooperates with the shaft end 31 'by friction. In order to achieve a satisfactory power transmission by friction between the wheel 31 and the shaft end 31 ', both are coated on their periphery with a strong .reibenden material, such as rubber or a rubber compound. The shaft 40 is supported by an arm 43 pivotably arranged at 44 on the support arm 45. This support arm 45 is, as can best be seen from FIGS. 4 and 6, connected to the motor.
The vertical part of the support arm has a cutout 46 to allow free up and down movement of the end of the arm 43, which carries the shaft 40. As a result, the wheel 41 is a pendulum wheel which is only in frictional contact with the shaft end 31 'for power transmission when it is pressed against the end of the shaft.
The small wheel 42 cooperates with a horizontally arranged wheel 47 in that it engages the peripheral edge of the wheel 47 by friction when the two wheels are moved towards each other. The wheel 47 is arranged on a rod 49 with the aid of a bearing bush 48. The rod 49 has a threaded part 49 ′ which is screwed into a support arm 50 which is fixedly attached to the horizontal right-hand part of the support arm 45. It is obvious that the rotation of the rod 49 with the aid of a corded or milled control button 51 results in an axial up and down movement of the rod 49 and thus of the wheel 47.
A pretensioned spring 52, which strikes with one end against a shoulder of the rod 49 or a washer 53 and with the other end against the bearing bush 48, serves to push the wheel 47 into its lowest position on the rod 49 - ken, in which it is held with the help of a split pin 54.
The wheel 47 is connected to the air flap device by a wire 55, which is arranged eccentrically at one end on the wheel 47 and the other end of which is connected to one of the tongues 25 on the air flap, preferably to one of the outermost tongues, as in Fig. 8 shown. The wire 55 is attached to the wheel 47 by means of a headed pin 56 on which a closed loop of the corresponding end of the wire 55 is attached.
The other end of the wire is preferably hooked onto the corresponding headed pin 26 with an open resilient loop so that the wire 55 can be easily removed from the air valve device and placed on it.
It is clear that the rotation of the wheel 47 gives all air flaps a reciprocating pivoting motion, since they are connected by the wire 28. The arc swept by the air flaps is determined by the eccentric position of the headed pin 56. In practice, it has been found that the pivoting movements of the air flaps through an arc of 45 produce satisfactory results.
The control device also has a switch 60 to control the motor circuit. The switch is arranged on the horizontal part of the support arm 45. The switch can be a knee lever switch. The switch has a forked Be actuating part 61 which works together with an arm 62 which extends from the rod 49 from. This arm can be fixed to the rod or, as shown, held by two clamping screws 63 and 64 to allow axial adjustment of the arm and ensure its rotation together with the rod.
The drive and control device described above operate as follows: It is assumed that the drive device and the control device are in the positions shown in FIGS. 4, 5 and 6. The switch 60 is then in its open position and interrupts the motor circuit. The wheel 42 is not connected to the wheel 47 and the wheel 41 rests against the shaft end 31 'only with the pressure of its own weight.
If the button 51 is now rotated through a relatively small angle in the direction of the arrow shown in FIG. 5, the arm 62 lets the switch 60 snap into its on position, whereby the motor is left, which now the fan blades 3 rotates with full force and speed. Although the rod 49 is slightly lowered by the initial rotation of the knob 51, the wheel 47 remains out of engagement with the wheel 42. During this stage of the process, the wheel 41 can be rotated by the shaft end 31 'or can more or less slip against it , depending on the friction between the wheel and the shaft end.
In any case, the attack between the wheel and the shaft end is only very light and not able to transmit force. This offers the advantage that the wear on the peripheral surfaces of the wheel 41 and the shaft end 31 'is insignificant when only the blades of the fan are in operation.
This control device ensures that the load represented by the air flaps and its drive pulley 47 cannot be accidentally connected to the engine 4 if it is left. By eliminating any need for high cranking torque, a minimum power engine can be used to deliver a particular airflow, which again results in cost and weight savings. Furthermore, if the fan is switched off, the above-described device ensures that the pressure is automatically removed from all rubber surfaces, whereby the life of the rubber parts is extended and their deformation by pressing is prevented.
If it is desired to keep the damper device on, the rotation of the knob 51 is continued until the wheel 47 comes into abutment with the wheel 42 with a pressure sufficient to keep the oscillating wheel 41 with the shaft end 31 'in Bring power transmission connection. As a result, the rotation of the shaft end is transmitted to the wheel 47, which revolves around the rod 49 and through the eccentric pin 56 and the wire 55, the above-mentioned swinging movements all air fold.
In order to stop the air damper device first and then the fan blades, the knob 51 is turned in the opposite direction. This ent opposite rotation of the knob 51 first moves the wheel 47 from its attack on the wheel 42 and then the switch 60 in its off position. As can be seen from the above description, a single common control device allows either only the fan blades or the fan blades and the air flap device to be operated together,
wherein the actuation of the fan blades alone generates an air flow in a fixed direction and the actuation of the air flap device causes the air flow to pivot back and forth under the action of the air flaps moving back and forth.
The stand of the fan consists of a base plate 70 from which two pairs of bent arms 71, 72 and 73, 74 extend. The bent arm parts hold the Ge housing 1 between them under spring pressure. These arm parts are connected at their free ends by caps 75. The air flap device is connected to the front housing part 7 by a screw 80.
As can be seen from FIGS. 11-13, the housing parts 6 and 7 are provided with flanges 86 and 87 on the cooperating edges in order to form two narrow pockets together with the cylinder 13. The pockets receive the plate 38 on one side and the plate 39 on the other side, which are attached to the motor support arms 35 and 36. The abutting edges of the flanges 86 and 87 each have a semicircular cutout 88 and 89, the bil a circular hole, the diameter of the hole 39 'is the same and is in alignment with this. The side edges 90 and 91 of the flanges are preferably inclined outwards.
The flanges 86 and 87 and the edges 90 and 91 are enclosed by a cover 92. The side edges 93 of this cover are also sloping outwards, although slightly less than the side edges 90 and 91. The cover 92 has a circular hole 94 of the same diameter as the circular holes 39 'and 88, 89. The housing part 7 is preferably provided with a shoulder 95 to take the edge of the housing part 6 on. The fastener also has a shaft 96 from which a pin 97 extends in the sides. The shaft 96 has a slotted head 98 on the outside.
The fastening device also be seated a cam 99 with two cam surfaces, one for each of the pin ends, and an axially deformable elastic sleeve 100 made of rubber. To mount the shaft 96 is inserted through a hole that is provided for this purpose in the cap, the head 98 lays against the outside of the cap. A washer 101 is disposed between the head 98 and the cap 75.
The sleeve 100 and cam 99 are then drawn over the shaft and finally the pin 97 is inserted to abut the cam surfaces, as best shown in FIG. The axial length of the sleeve 100 is such that it is compressed when the ends of the pin 97 engage the part of the cam surfaces that is closest to the head 98. The purpose of this pre-pressing is to ensure that there is sufficient initial friction between the adjacent surfaces of the fastening device.
In order to assemble the fan, the plates 38 and 39 are accommodated in the corresponding pockets, the housing parts 6 and 7 are pressed together and the cylinder 13 is inserted, whereby the wire mesh 8 and in particular its attachment part 8 'is held in its position. All of the above-mentioned parts then assume the positions to one another which are shown in FIG. The covers 92 are now attached to the flanges 86 and 87.
Finally, the cam 99 and the sleeve 100 of the fastening devices are inserted into the holes 94, 88, 89 and 39, which are now all in alignment with one another. If the fastening devices are tightened by turning the heads 98, for example with the aid of a screwdriver or a suitable coin, the ends of the pin 97 lie on the corresponding ends of the cam surfaces and thereby shorten the axial distance between the cam part and the side the cap 75 against which the sleeve 100 strikes.
The result is that the sleeve part protruding from the plate 38 or 39 is greatly bent, as shown in FIG. 11. The bent part of the sleeve locks all of the Be constituents taken by it together. In addition, the oblique side edges 90, 91 and 93 clamp the flanges 86 and 87 and thus the housing parts 6 and 7 firmly together. As a result, the simple and single operation of tightening the fasteners completes the assembly of the entire fan. The entire weight of the motor unit is supported by the mounting plates 38 and 39. These plates 38 and 39 are actually carried by the resilient sleeves 100 of the fastening devices.
Furthermore, a shock-absorbing arrangement is provided by the resilient Puf ferteil 100 ', which is arranged between the cap 75 and the cover 92. Similarly, the fan can be dismantled for cleaning or repair purposes by loosening the fastening devices.
It is also clear that the sleeves 100 represent an axis about which the housing can be pivoted. As a result of the friction properties of the rubber sleeves, the fan housing remains in any tilted position in which it is brought.
To start up, knob 51 is turned enough to bring switch 60 into its on position. The rotating fan blades draw an air stream through the wind tunnel formed by the cylinder 13. The direction of this air flow depends on the position of the air flap. When these flaps are in positions parallel to the axis of the cylinder 13, the air flow is discharged straight in the direction of the axis of the cylinder; otherwise it is derived from the air flaps according to the angle that these air flaps form with the cylinder axis. In this, the direction of the air flow remains fixed.
If it is desired to generate the air flow going back and forth, the rotation of the knob 51 is continued in the same direction until the wheel 47 rests against the wheel 42 and the air flaps, as already described, are moved back and forth.
The layer of air that hits the air flaps is derived from them by constantly changing angles, which correspond to the angular movements of the flaps, which can divert the air by an angle of 9.0. As described above, the air flaps are arranged in such a way that air slits remain between adjacent air flaps in every angular position. These slots make it easier for air to pass through.
Tests have shown that the best results are achieved when certain fairly fixed ratios of the air flap area to the wind channel area exist. For a wind tunnel diameter of 250 mm, for example, four air flaps with a width of 38 mm each and a distance of 51 mm from one another and from the outer wind tunnel walls produce a maximum effect. It is also essential that a minimum distance between the air flaps and the next point of the fan blades is maintained in order to achieve as little vortex formation as possible and as little air noise as possible.
With the wind tunnel diameter of 250 mm mentioned above, a minimum distance of 62.5 mm has proven to be the most advantageous.
The beveled edges 7 'of the front housing part 7 have proven to be beneficial for deflecting the air flow going back and forth when it reaches its limit positions.
Because the sides 110 of the front housing part 7 are withdrawn or concave and the air flaps 15 are arranged in front of these concave sides, the air flow can be pivoted through a wide angle without being obstructed by the housing.
The drive and control devices of Figures 14-17 are similar in principle to the devices shown in Figures 4-7. The former allows the swivel speed of the air flaps to be adjusted.
Again, the movements of the air flaps are derived from the orbital movement of the wheel 47, which in turn is driven by the motor shaft via the wheel 42. The transmission ratio can be changed by changing the radial distance in which the drive wheel 42 is on the driven wheel 47 in attack.
For this purpose, the wheel 41 is connected to a sleeve 125 on which the drive wheel 42 is also fastened. The sleeve 125 can slide axially on the shaft 40 '. In order to enable axial displacement of the sleeve and thus of the wheel 41, the offset end 31 ″ of the motor shaft is lengthened accordingly. It is evident that the rotational speed of the driven wheel 47 at a constant rotational speed of the Motor is changed accordingly.
In order to perform the axial displacement of the sleeve, a grooved collar 126 is attached to the sleeve and an actuator identified by 127 engages in it.
The actuator is U-shaped. It is rotatably arranged with its legs 128 and 129 on the rod 49 and the support arm 50, so that it can participate in the up and down movement of the rod 49 when the latter is rotated to control the motor drive, as described above . In order to make the necessary space available, the support arm 45 is modified so that it has a part 45 'on which the shaft 40' is mounted, as well as a horizontal tongue 45 "on which the switch 60 is arranged. The lower horizontal limbs of the U-shaped member 127 extends between the horizontal part of this support arm and the tongue 45 ″, as can best be seen from FIG.
This figure also shows that the rotation of the switch arm 62 and the actuator 127 do not interfere with one another.
The rotation of the U-shaped member is converted into a displacement of the collar 126 with the help of a toothed sector 130 on the leg 129 and a rack 131, from which an oblique arm 132 extends, which ends in a forked part 132 'which the Collar ring 126 encloses. The rack 131 can slide on the support arm part 45 'par allel to the axis of rotation of the wheel 41 and for this purpose has two elongated slots 131' into which the pins 133 protrude.
A rotation of the U-shaped member 127 about the axis of the rod 49 thus causes an axial displacement of the sleeve 125 and the parts connected thereto in one direction or the other. In order to facilitate the adjustment of the organ 127, an arm 134 with a finger grip 135 at its end extends from the upper leg 128 of the U-shaped organ. This arm is outside the housing 1, preferably in the vicinity of the button 51. Fig. 17 shows the angular movement necessary to achieve a faster or slower pivoting of the air flaps.
In order to prevent the device from rattling and to set the speed setting in its position, locks 136 are preferably arranged on the rack 131. This Arretie ments work together with a soft spring 137 men.
