Iron-chromium-aluminum alloy The invention relates to an iron-chromium-aluminum alloy. The alloy is particularly suitable for use in electrical resistance elements.
Electrical resistance elements are made of alloys that are able to withstand oxidation in the air even at high temperatures.
This property is particularly pronounced in iron-chromium-aluminum alloys, which can withstand temperatures of over <B> 1350 'C </B> and at the same time have a satisfactory service life. The alloys can also contain small amounts of cobalt, which increases the refractory strength even more and at the same time improves the cold workability.
The known Fe-Cr-Al alloys have the disadvantage that they have a relatively low heat resistance and poor corrosion resistance in neutral or reducing nitrogen-containing gases. The latter is a disadvantage when e.g. B. electric furnaces with protective gas over <B> 900 'C </B> for bright annealing, for various hardening processes etc. should be used. In such cases it was necessary to use resistance elements of the nickel-chromium type, since the Fe-Cr-Al alloys had too short a service life.
At the same time, the known Fe-Cr-Al alloys also show great brittleness in the cold state after heating to temperatures of over 900 ° C and a tendency to creep, even if they are used for well-supported resistance elements causing severe deformation of the elements.
All of these disadvantages are now eliminated by the present invention. It has been shown that small additions of tantalum and cerium greatly improve the heat resistance, the toughness in the cold state after annealing at high temperature, and above all the resistance of the alloys to nitrogen-containing neutral and reducing gases and the tendency to creep reduce significantly.
According to the invention, the new alloy is characterized in that it is 10-401 /. Chromium, 1-90 / "Alu minium, 50-890 /. Iron, furthermore tantalum in an amount of 0.1-501" and cerium in an amount of. The alloy can also contain up to 20 /. <B> each </B> manganese and silicon, up to <B> 0.501. </B> carbon, up to <B> 501. </B> cobalt and 0.01 -1o /. Contains zirconium. It can also contain niobium and thorium. Phosphorus and sulfur can occur as contaminants.
<I> Examples </I> <B> 1. </B> 20-301 /,> Chromium, <B> 3.5-6% </B> aluminum, about 2.50 /, tantalum, about < B> 0.1501. </B> Cerium, remainder iron.
2. 20-300 / "chrome, 3.5-60 /" aluminum, about 2.50 /, tantalum, about 0.10 /. Cerium, 0.1-501. Cobalt, the rest iron.
3. 35-40% chromium, 5-91 / 1. Aluminum, about 1.5 "1" niobium, about 0.150 / "zirconium, 0.1-5% tantalum, 0.01-10 /" cerium, balance iron.
4. 10-1501 "chromium, 3-5.5o /. Aluminum, about 10 /. Molybdenum, about 0.10 /. Thorium, 0.1-5" 1,> tantalum, <B> 0.01-1 % Cerium, remainder iron.
The improvement in the resistance to nitrogen gas should emerge most clearly from the table below, in which alloy no. <B> 1 </B> is a nickel-chromium alloy of the conventional type, mainly <B> 800 /.</ B> containing nickel and 20 "/" chromium.
Alloy no. 2 is an Fe-Cr-Al alloy with 22 <B>% </B> Cr and <B> 5.5% Al, </B> and alloy no. <B> 3 </ B > is a Ve-Cr-Al alloy containing 220 / "Cr and <B> 5.5% Al, </B> but also <B> 2.5% </B> Ta and <B> 0, 1% Ce These three alloys were annealed at 1200 ° C for 24 hours in pure nitrogen gas, and the electrical resistivity was measured both before and after the annealing.
The change in the specific electrical resistance indicates the extent of the change that the material has undergone due to the action of the gas during annealing.
