Method and spray head for the production of hoses from thermoplastics
The present invention relates to a process for the production of hoses from thermoplastic plastics, such as polyethylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polymeric chlorotrifluoroethylene, superpolyamides, plasticized acetyl cellulose, in which the plastics in the melted state from a spray head which opens into an annular nozzle to be squeezed out.
If ring nozzles with a narrow gap are used in the above-mentioned process, thin-walled hoses are obtained which, while still plastic, are brought to considerably larger diameters and thus even thinner walls by blowing in air, nitrogen or other gases that do not react with the plastic can. In general, spray heads are used that press the hose up or down at a right angle to the axis of a screw press.
These spray heads consist essentially of a hollow cylinder with a mandrel in it, the diameter of the mandrel and the cylinder bore being dimensioned and the mandrel held by holders in such a way that the plastic mass flowing through forms a relatively thin-walled hollow cylinder. Care is taken that the mass is fed to the free space formed by the mandrel and the inner cylinder jacket through a streamlined line so that it flows through the free space evenly at all points - a cross section and also exits evenly at the circumference of the ring nozzle.
Precise temperature control, not only in the screw press, but also in the injection head, sets the most favorable temperatures for each plastic.
In most cases, it is advisable to supply the plastic compound to the spray head at a temperature that is significantly above its softening point, and to allow the temperature in the spray head to drop after the nozzle so that the plastic exits the nozzle at a temperature that is closer to n lies at its softening point. This can be done in a simple manner in that the spray head is not isolated or cooling fins are used or similar other measures are carried out.
In this mode of operation, the plastic hose formed usually has strips of reduced strength at the points where the plastic compound forming it has flowed into the holder of the mandrel when it was pushed by the extrusion head. Sometimes the hose is a little thinner in the affected areas. However, it also happens that it has the same thickness there as on the rest of its circumference, but shows longitudinal stripes with reduced strength in the tear test.
It has been found that these serious disadvantages are avoided by applying heat to the extrusion head in accordance with the method forming the subject of the present invention at those points where means for holding the mandrel protrude into the passage for the plastic compound around the mandrel .
In this way it is achieved that the holder of the mandrel, for. B. webs with which the mandrel is fixed in position, restrains the general cooling through additional local heating and thus prevents premature cooling, even of a temporary kind, of the plastic compound flowing around the holder.
Some embodiments of the spray head used to carry out the method are shown in the accompanying drawing.
FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 each show a longitudinal section through different embodiments.
According to FIG. 1, a ring heater d is attached around the cylinder jacket c in the zone where the mandrel 16 is connected to the cylinder jacket c of the injection head by means of the holder b. After the ring nozzle e, the spray head is allowed to cool evenly by dissipating heat. In this case, the spray head can also be allowed to cool more strongly above the ring heater d, so that the local heat supply through d to the holders b has a stronger effect and the desired gradual cooling of the entire plastic mass on the way to the nozzle e nevertheless occurs.
It is also possible to heat the holder b themselves directly by equipping the spray head with hollow holders and placing heating devices f in the cavities, as shown in FIG.
If the mandrel mlr is carried by a mandrel holder, then the heat-emitting devices intended for the additional local heating of the mandrel holder are located in the area of this one mandrel holder.
In the extrusion head shown in FIG. 3, an annular cavity is present in the interior of a cylinder jacket in the vicinity of the zone in which the holders of the mandrel are attached to the inner surface of the cylinder, and heating devices are housed in the cavity. Spray heads of this type preferably consist of several parts. For example, as FIG. 3 shows, the cylinder of the spray head consists of an upper part c1 and a lower part c2, both of which are provided with a flange at the edge and are fastened to one another with the flanges. The upper part cl carries the mandrel a with the help of several holders b, which are attached to the upper part ci near the flanged edge.
An annular recess h is cut into the underside of this planch and an electrical heater i is housed in this annular recess h. In order to avoid undesired heat transfer, an insulation k is placed on the annular hole formed by the recess h.
Electrical heating elements are preferably used to generate the additional heat provided during the process. However, other means can also be used, e.g. B. Lines for the circulation of hot flowable matter, such as liquids, vapors or gases, this circulation in hollow holders or in cavities in the wall of the spray head cylinder, in the vicinity of the zone within which the holder of the mandrel are attached .
With the method according to the present invention, there is no problem in correctly dosing the degree of local heating. If the heating is too strong, weak thickenings appear at the relevant points of the hose formed. In this case, the local heating is throttled until the thickenings just disappear. Then the guarantee is given that the holder, which connect the mandrel to the extrusion head cylinder, no longer causes longitudinal stripes with a smaller thickness or lower strength.
