Engine brakes that switch on and off automatically on vehicles with an internal combustion engine There are known engine brakes on vehicles with an internal combustion engine in which the exhaust pipe is closed by means of a flap or a rotary valve to achieve the braking effect. The well-known: engine brakes of this type must be switched on and off by the driver of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle is burdened with an additional task that takes his or her attention. Incorrect application of such an engine brake can cause accidents and traffic congestion.
These disadvantages can be overcome by the present invention.
The present invention is an automatically on and off motor brake on vehicles with internal combustion engine with angeord Neter brake flap in the exhaust line, in which a battery-powered electric motor is provided, which rods in the exhaust line of the via a transmission and a Ge Internal combustion engine arranged brake flap opens and closes to control it in the circuit. the fuel pedal actuated ter switch and a switch actuated by the clutch pedal and a switch that can be influenced by this switch are provided.
Advantageously, a reversible electric motor is used, which is connected on the one hand to one terminal of the battery, the other terminal of which is connected to ground, and on the other hand through two circuits controlled by the linkage that actuates the brake flap, one of which is via a from the fuel pedal and the other via a switch operated by the clutch pedal, can be connected to ground, the whole thing in such a way
da.ss when the fuel pedal is depressed by the changeover switch operated by it, the circuit of the electric motor is closed for one direction of rotation and when the clutch pedal is depressed by the changeover switch operated by it, the circuit of the electric motor for the other direction of rotation is closed.
The transmission, via which the electric motor actuates the linkage of the brake flap, is expediently provided with a freewheel device, which ensures that the electric motor does not suddenly block when the brake flap is in the open and closed position, but can run out.
The battery of the motor vehicle is generally used as the battery for feeding the electric motor.
This automatically switching on and off engine brake requires no special knowledge and does not burden the driver of the motor vehicle in any way, since he does not need to worry about them. The driving style remains exactly the same as with one not with. this engine brake from equipped motor vehicle.
In the drawing, an example embodiment of the subject invention is shown schematically. They show: FIG. 1 a diagram of the automatic switching on and off. disengaging engine brake on driving testify with internal combustion engine, Fig. 2 is an axial section through the transmission with freewheel device of this Mo torbrake and Fig. 3 is a detail of this.
In FIG. 1, 1 denotes the battery forming part of the electrical system of a motor vehicle, not further illustrated in the drawing, the negative terminal of which is connected to ground E of the motor vehicle. A line 2 is connected to the positive terminal of this battery, which on the other hand is connected to a connection terminal 3a of a reversible electric motor 3 which has two further connection terminals 3b and 3c.
This electric motor 3 actuates a brake linkage 5, which acts on a lever 6 on the axis of an in .die exhaust line 7 of the engine of the motor vehicle, via a nut driven by it and a gear 4 screwed into it built-in brake flap 8 sits. A driver 9 is fixedly arranged on the brake linkage 5 and has an opening which is freely penetrated by a rod 10. On this rod 10, two stop rings 11 and 12 are screwed tightly on both sides of the driver 9.
On the rod 10, the movable contact part 13a of an order switch with four, in pairs opposite, fixed contact parts 13b, 13c, 13d and 13e is fixedly arranged. With 14 the fuel pedal of the motor vehicle is designated net, by means of which the fuel supply for the engine of the motor vehicle is regulated via a linkage 1.5.
This fuel pedal 14 is not shown in the drawing. shown, acting on the Clestä.nge 15 spring in its uppermost position, that is, in the idle position, pressed. A second pedal 16 is arranged on the fuel pedal 14 and is electrically connected to the ground E of the motor vehicle.
This pedal 16 forms the movable contact part of a switch, one of which is a fixed contact part 16a on the fuel pedal 14 and the other fixed contact part 1: 6b on the inside of a strap 17 which is arranged at the free end of the fuel pedal 14 and overlaps the free end of the pedal 16 is arranged. By a spring 18, the pedal 16 is pushed away from the fuel pedal 14 and onto the fixed contact part 16b. The force of the spring acting on the fuel pedal 14 via the linkage 15 is considerably greater than the force of the spring 18 acting on the pedal 16 At 19 is. denotes the clutch pedal of the motor vehicle.
In the area of this clutch pedal 19, another switch is arranged, which has four fixed contact parts 20a, 20c, 20d, located opposite one another in pairs, which have a movable contact part 20e is arranged .. A spring 21 seeks to press the movable con tact part 20e to the fixed contact parts 20e and 20d. This spring 21 counteracts the spring action clutch pedal 19, which acts on a bolt 22 seated on the movable contact part 20e and presses this movable contact part 20e against the fixed contact parts 20a and 20b of the switch.
The spring force of the clutch pedal 19 is significantly greater than the force of the spring 21.
The connection terminal 3b of the electric motor 3 is connected by a line 23 to the fixed contact part lab of the first-mentioned order switch, whose fixed contact part 13e is connected by a line 24 to the fixed contact part 16a. of the switch operated with the fuel pedal 14 is connected. The connection terminal 3c of the electric motor 3 is connected by a line 25. the fixed contact part 13d of the first-mentioned changeover switch, the fixed contact part 13e of which is connected by a line 26 to the fixed contact part 20a of the changeover switch operated by the clutch pedal 19.
The fixed contact part 205 of the latter. To switch is connected by a line 2 7 to the fixed contact part 16b, while the fixed contact part 20c of the switch operated by the clutch pedal 19 is closed by a line 28 to the line 21 at. The fixed contact part 20d of the latter switch is connected to the ground E of the motor vehicle. A fuse 29 and a main switch 30 are arranged in the line 2.
In the position shown in Fig. 1, the brake is turned on because the fuel pedal 14 and the pedal 16 are completely free. The brake flap 8 closes the exhaust line 7. The circuit of the electric motor 3 is interrupted for both directions of rotation, on the one hand between the fixed contact part 16a and the moving contact part of the switchover to be actuated with your pulp pedal 14 forming pedal 16 and on the other hand between the fixed contact parts 13d and 13e, of which the movable contact part 13a of this switch is lifted. The electric motor 3 thus rests.
If the fuel pedal 14 is now actuated, the pedal 16 is depressed first, since the spring 18 acting on the pedal 16 is weaker than the spring acting on the fuel pedal 14 via the linkage 1.5, which causes the pedal 16 to reach the fixed contact part 16a is pressed.
As a result, the circuit battery connection terminal 3a- electric motor 3 - connection terminal 3b line 23 - fixed contact part 13b - movable contact part 13a - fixed contact part 13c-line 24-fixed contact part 16a-pedal 16-mass E closed, and the electric motor is in In gear.
Via the transmission 4, the brake linkage 5 and the lever 6, the brake flap 8 is rotated into such a position that it releases the exhaust line 7, even before the fuel supply to the engine of the motor vehicle caused by pressing the fuel pedal 14 has an effect. The driver 9 initially slides on the rod 10 until it strikes the driver ring 11 and takes it and thus the rod 10 with it.
The movable contact part 1.3a seated on this rod 10 is thereby lifted from the fixed contact parts 13b and 13c and pressed against the fixed contact parts 13d and 13e. This has the effect that when the brake flap 8 reaches the position in which it releases the exhaust line 7, the electric motor 3 is switched off, since its circuit between the fixed contact parts 13b and 13e, which now no longer exist are bridged by the movable contact part 13a, is interrupted.
At the same time, however, the other circuit, which makes the electric motor 3 run in the opposite direction, is battery - line 2 - connection terminal 3a-electric motor 3 - connection terminal 3c-line 25 - fixed contact part 13d-movable contact part 13a-fixed contact part 13e-line 26-fixed contact part 20a-movable contact part 20e-fixed contact part 20b-line
27 fixed contact part 16b -pedal 16 -Mass E has been preset, but remains for the time being between tween the fixed contact part 16b and the depressed pedal 16 interrupted. If the driver now completely removes the fuel, that is, if he releases the fuel pedal 14 and the additional pedal 16 completely, the said second circuit is established by the pedal resting against the fixed contact part 16b under the action of the spring 18 16 closed.
This causes the electric motor 3 to start running in the opposite direction of rotation, with the brake flap 8 in the exhaust line 7 being rotated back into its closed position via the gear 4, the brake linkage 5 and the lever 6. At the end of the movement, the movable contact part 13cc is lifted off the fixed contact parts 13d and 13e again via the driver, the stop ring 12 and the rod 10 and pressed against the fixed contact parts 13b and 13c,
so that the starting position is restored and the first mentioned circuit is preset. If the clutch pedal 19 were depressed, i.e. disengaged, with the fuel pedal 14 fully released and the pedal 16 released, the engine of the motor vehicle would be switched off immediately, since the engine brake is switched on, i.e. the exhaust line 7 is closed by the brake flap 8.
This naturally undesirable shutdown of the motor vehicle engine is prevented by the fact that when the clutch pedal 19 is depressed immediately. the circuit battery-line 2-connection terminal 3a-electric motor 3 - connection terminal 3b-line 23-fixed contact part 13b - movable contact part 13a fixed contact part 13c-line 24-line,
28-fixed contact part 20c, -mobile contact part 20e-fixed contact part 20d-mass E is closed. The electric motor 3 is set in motion and opens the brake flap 8 in the exhaust line 7 via the transmission 4, the brake linkage 5 and the lever 6. The automatic engine brake described is thus always ready for use in the correct sense, without the driver of the Motor vehicle somehow needs to take care of it.
The pedal 16 can also be depressed on its own or held in the depressed position, since the driver, as a result of the greater force of the spring acting on the fuel pedal via the linkage 15, feels exactly when the movement of the fuel pedal 14 begins or has ended.
With the help of the main switch 30, the driver can put the automatic engine brake out of operation at will. Since, when the engine brake is switched on when leaving the motor vehicle, the brake flap 8 is closed in all cases as a result of full release of the fuel pedal 14 and the pedal 16, the motor vehicle is secured to an increased extent against rolling when Parkie Ren on a steep road.
If the main switch 30 is designed to be actuated by means of a key, similar to the ignition system, then an additional protection against theft is created. Instead of the additional pedal 16, a pressure pin could also be provided in the fuel pedal 14, which would have to actuate a switch designed as a single unit.
There. the electric motor 3 must have a relatively high speed in order to cause the motor brake to be switched on and off quickly, it must not be suddenly stopped when the limit positions of the organs actuated by it are reached, otherwise parts of the automatic motor brake could be damaged or exposed to severe wear and tear. The electric motor 3 must therefore have a certain amount of drainage. Such a run-off of the electric motor 3 is also with a view to a safe and complete switching of the switch 13a to 13e. he wishes.
This possibility of stopping the electric motor 3 is achieved by the training of the transmission 4 described below.
The electric motor 3 has a flange 40 on which a hexagonal tube 42 provided with a flange 41 is fixedly arranged coaxially to the shaft of the electric motor 3. In which to lie against the flange 40 the part of this hexagonal tube 42 is. a ball bearing 43 held between two grooves a set expanding rings 44 and 45, in the inner ring with a. threaded bolt 46 is inserted. On the opposite side of the ball bearing 43 facing the electric motor 3, a hex nut 47 is screwed onto the thread of the bolt 46, which is secured by a pin 48.
Is tromotors 3, a Sechska.ntkopf 49 firmly attached to the Wellenstiunpf of the electric motor. The bolt 46 is connected to the shaft of the electric motor 3 by a hexagon socket 50 pushed onto the hexagon head 49 and the hexagon nut 47. The bolt 46 has a head 51 which is on the side of the inner ring of the ball bearing 43 facing away from the electric motor 3. One end of a tube 52 is firmly placed on this head 51, the other end of which is guided in a guide ring 53 arranged in the hexagonal tube 42.
In the end of the tube 52 facing away from the electric motor 3, a nut piece 54 is firmly inserted, in the Ge thread a threaded spindle 55 is screwed. This threaded spindle 55 has on its part facing away from the electric motor 3 a head 56 which has a threaded attachment 57. The inner ring of a ball bearing 61 is held on this threaded projection 57 between a ring 58 and a nut 59, which is secured by a lock nut 60. This ball bearing 61 is axially displaceable in a hexagonal tube 62, which hexagonal tube 62 in turn axially displaceable bar in the hexagonal tube 42 is guided.
In the end of the hexagonal tube facing away from the electric motor 3, a head 65 is held between two grooves, etzt expanding rings 63 and 64, on which the brake linkage 5 is seated. The outer ring of the ball bearing 61 is held in the hexagonal tube 62 between two helical springs 66 and 67, one of which is supported against an expansion ring 68 inserted into a groove in the hexagonal tube 62 and the other against the expansion ring 63.
The brake linkage 5 is passed through a shaft seal 69 inserted into a recess at the end of the sea-socket tube 42, which is held by an expansion ring 70 inserted into a groove in the end of the sea-square tube 42. The hexagonal tube 42 contains an oil bath, and an oil passage 71 is provided in the head 65. The head 56 of the threaded spindle 55 has a recess 72 in which a helical spring 73 rests with a slight bias, the two ends 74 and 75 of which are bent outwards at right angles.
In the hexagonal tube 62 running in Aehsriehtung stop bar 76 for the ends 74 and 75 of the screw benfeder 73 is firmly inserted, the ends of which are provided with inclined surfaces 77 and 78.
If, for example, the brake flap 8 is now closed and the electric motor 3 is set in motion in the manner described above to open it, the following results: With the shaft of the electric motor 3, the tube 52 rotates and the one firmly inserted into it Alutter piece 54. The protruding end 74 of the helical spring 73 rests against the stop bar 76, and the prestressing of the helical spring 73 prevents the threaded spindle 55 from rotating with the nut part 54.
This has the effect that the threaded spindle 55 is screwed into the nut piece 54, the ball bearing 61 being taken along and the hexagonal tube 62 in the hexagonal tube 42 being displaced against the electric motor 3 via the helical spring 66. The head 65 and with it the brake linkage 5 are taken along, which has the effect that the brake flap 8 is opened. If the brake flap 8 is completely open, the brake linkage 5 can no longer move in this direction and its head 65 holds the hexagonal tube 62 firmly in the hexagonal tube 42.
The electric motor 3 has been switched off when the brake flap 8 is in the open position, but its rotor cannot be stopped immediately and must still coast down. This causes the ball bearing 61 in the hexagonal tube 62 to be displaced against the electric motor 3 while compressing the helical spring 66.
The end 74 of the coil spring 73 slides along the stop bar 76 until it slides over the end facing the electric motor 3, whereby the threaded spindle 55 is free and rotates with the latter due to the thread friction in the nut 54, so that another Axial displacement of the threaded spindle 55 no longer takes place. The coil spring 73 rotates with the threaded spindle 55 or its head 56 until its end 75 rests on the stop bar 76 (FIG. 3). This has the effect of releasing the bias of the coil spring 73.
The rotor of the electric motor 3 can now in. Run free. If the electric motor 3 is then started in the opposite direction of rotation to close the brake flap 8, the same process takes place in the opposite direction. The threaded spindle 55 is unscrewed from the nut 54. The end 75 of the helical spring 73 rests against the stop strip 76 from the other side and prevents the threaded spindle 55 from rotating with the nut 54.
The hexagonal tube 62 is displaced outward in the hexagonal tube 42, taking along the brake linkage 5 via the head 65 until the brake flap - is completely closed, the brake linkage 5 and thus also the hexagonal tube 62 no longer move further in this direction beyv egen. The ball bearing 61 is then primed in the hexagonal tube 62 under Kom: the coil spring 67 from the electric motor 3 is moved away.
The end 75 of the coil spring 73 slides along the stop bar 76 until it slides over the end remote from the electric motor 3 and thus sets the free-running function in the manner described.
A particular advantage of the freewheel device described is that it automatically comes into operation in any intermediate position if the brake flap 8 or the brake linkage 5 should be blocked for any reason. This prevents damage to the electric motor and the other parts of the motor brake.
In order to avoid that when the engine brake is switched on, the speed of the internal combustion engine drops so far that a complete shutdown of the internal combustion engine would have to be feared, a further switch in the circuit of the electric motor is advantageously installed in parallel to the changeover switch operated with the clutch pedal the drawing, not shown switch is provided, which is controlled by an actuating device in dependence on the speed of the internal combustion engine, such
da.ss the circuit of the electric motor, via which the electric motor is set in motion in the direction of rotation corresponding to the opening of the brake flap, is closed immediately, i.e. the brake flap is opened when the speed of the Brennkra.ftmotor falls below a certain limit.
The actuation device for this switch can be designed similar to a Fliehkra.ft- regulator and be driven, for example, by the Ventila.tor- belt, or it can be a pressure difference between the intake line and the pressure line of the engine that depends on the speed of the Brennkra.ft- motor Be the cooling water pump or the oil pump reacting organ.
The electric motor 3, the gear 4, the brake linkage 5 with the driver 9, the rod 10 with the stops 11 and 12 and the switch 13a 13e. form one to; assembled component, which around a. Axis 3 ', which, as shown, can be arranged on the housing of the electric motor 3 or on the housing of the transmission 4, is pivotably mounted on the engine block of the Brennkra.ftmot.ors.
