La fig. 1 est une vue en coupe longitudinale partielle de l'appareil;
la fig. 2 est une vue en coupe suivant II-II de la fig. 1 ;
la fig. 3 représente l'appareil adapté à une trémie fixe;
Apparatus for transporting powdery materials
The present invention relates to an apparatus intended for the transport of pulverulent or finely divided materials, suitable in particular for the conveying of cement, pulverized limestone, coal dust, etc., which materials have the particularity of becoming fluid when ' they are mixed with a fluid under suitable conditions.
There are transport devices in which the material to be transported is unloaded on an Archimedean screw which moves it forward towards the transport pipe. At the end of the screw, air is injected into the material to make it flow. This material is forced to flow through the pipe under the mechanical action of the screw.
To prevent the fluid from escaping through the advancement mechanism, it is known practice to place a seal or plug of dense or compact material between the mechanism and the point of injection of the fluid.
To obtain this result, use is made either of a screw conveyor of uniform diameter and of pitch decreasing towards the discharge end, or of a conveyor in which the screw has a uniform pitch, but decreasing in diameter. towards said discharge end, the housing containing the screw then being conical.
The Archimedean screw shaft is most often supported by bearings. The front bearings are placed in alignment with the transport line where the material flows and it is extremely difficult to obtain a seal which allows the bearings to be kept free from the transported material which in most cases case, is very abrasive and which, in any case, destroys the lubrication of the bearings and deteriorates them very quickly.
There are other conveyor devices in which the Archimedean screw is cantilevered.
The bearings are then much more easily maintained in good condition, but, on the other hand, the considerable pitch of the screw and the length of the overhang cause friction which, in the long run, destroys the shells or the casing which surrounds the screws and thus cause very significant wear to the screw and the housing.
The present invention obviates the drawbacks inherent in these conveyors and relates to an apparatus intended for the transport of powdery or finely divided materials, such as cement, pulverized limestone, coal dust, etc., which have the particularity of becoming flowing when ' they are mixed with a fluid under suitable conditions, apparatus characterized by the fact that it comprises an Archimedean screw made up of two parts with reverse pitch, placed in a casing and intended to convey the pulverulent material towards the center of said casing, at least one hopper ensuring the discharge of said material on each of the two parts of the screw, a receptacle placed in the center of the casing and in which the pulverulent material arrives at the outlet of the two parts of the screw,
a transport pipe starting from said receptacle and intended for the evacuation of the pulverulent material, fluid inlet pipes opening into said receptacle, a compressor unit intended to supply the receptacle with a pressurized fluid and means for driving the rotating screw.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the apparatus which is the subject of the invention, it comprises a casing in two parts in which the screw turns on itself, the two parts of the casing opening by two hoppers on the two parts. reverse of the screw.
The pitch of each of the parts of the screw may decrease towards the center of the casing, so that the material is compressed as it approaches the ends of said parts.
The fluid inlet pipes can be arranged in such a way in the central receptacle that the material does not come into contact with the fluid until it has left the two screw parts.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial longitudinal sectional view of the apparatus;
fig. 2 is a sectional view along II-II of FIG. 1;
fig. 3 shows the device adapted to a fixed hopper;
figs. 4 and 5 represent this same apparatus applied respectively to a dump truck and to a container.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the apparatus for transporting pulverulent materials comprises a double Archimedean screw 1, with reverse pitch. The shaft of this screw is supported at each of its ends by a bearing 2. The screw rotates on itself in a housing made up of two parts 3, 4 which open by two hoppers 3a, 4a on the two parts with reverse pitch 1a, 1b of screw 1. The pitch of each of these screw parts decreases towards the center of the casing, so that the material discharged into the hoppers 3a and 4a is brought to a central receptacle 5 of the casing and compressed to as it approaches this central receptacle. In this way, the material itself forms a seal to prevent the fluid, for example air, which is introduced through pipes 6 into this receptacle, finding a path to the outside through hoppers 3a and 4a.
The fluid inlet pipes 6 are arranged so that the material is in contact with the fluid only when the latter has left the screws 1a and 1b.
The operation of the device is as follows
The hoppers 3a and 4a are filled with the material to be transported which is unloaded on the screws la and lb. These screws, rotated by a motor (not shown in fig. 1), pick up the material as it is unloaded and drive it through the housing parts 3 and 4. In these two parts it occurs. to prevent an increase in compression of the material as it approaches the discharge ends of screws 1a and 1b.
While the material is being driven by the screws, the compressor (also not shown) which supplies the pipes 6 operates to maintain the fluid under the desired pressure. When the compressed fluid arrives in the central receptacle 5, it mixes intimately with the sprayed material as the latter leaves the ends of the screws 1a and 1b.
Due to the packing action produced at the discharge end of each of the screws 1a and 1b, fluid is prevented from passing through the housing parts 3 and 4 to the hoppers 3a and 4a, so that the material is not in contact with the fluid before it exits screws 1a and 1b.
Under the action of the pressure exerted on the aerated material by the rotating screws, the mixture is discharged into a distributor pipe 7 and can be taken away. In the event of uneven feeding of the two hoppers 3a and 4a, the screw fed the most strongly will tend to push the material on the less fed side, thus ensuring sufficient sealing of the latter. This is obtained by supplying the orifice for passage of the material to the pipe 7, so that this orifice is sufficient to ensure the flow of the apparatus only when the material is in the packed state. It should be noted that this orifice can be of fixed or variable size and that a valve device can be incorporated therein to ensure complete sealing preventing the fluid from returning to the device.
The fluid-material mixture can, thanks to the special arrangements of the device, be sent to a considerable distance and even be high, without requiring a significant expenditure of energy.
Thus, depending on requirements, the apparatus described can be applied to a fixed hopper (fig. 3), to a dump truck (fig. 4) or to a container (fig. 5), for example. .
In its application to a fixed hopper (fig.
3), the device is, in the embodiment shown, adapted to the bottom of a hopper 8.
This installation allows, in particular, the elevation of the material to the upper floors of a building, for example, and possibly its temporary storage in a tank 9 on the floor considered. To allow easy unloading of the material, brought by trucks, into the hopper, the latter is installed in a pit 10. The compressor unit 1 1 can also be easily placed in the same pit.
This installation has the particular advantage of avoiding the obstruction of the sites by the material discharged in a heap and of eliminating particularly difficult handling. In its application to a dump truck, the apparatus described can very advantageously be installed at the rear of the truck, as shown in FIG. 4.
The motor 12, which drives the double Archimedes screw with reverse pitch, is placed at one of its ends. The compressor unit 1 1 can be. installed nearby as shown, or possibly mounted on the truck itself.
In its application to a truck comprising a fixed tank, the apparatus described can be, as shown in FIG. 5, mounted on the chassis of the truck under the tank which contains the material. This tank is constructed in such a way that its bottom ends with two hoppers 3a and 4a which discharge the material onto the screws 1a and 1b of the apparatus. The engine 12 and the compressor unit 11 are also mounted on the chassis of the truck.
In general, the apparatus described makes it possible to save energy due to the assembly without any overhang of the screw 1, which limits the phenomenon of flapping and consequently friction. Savings are also achieved by reducing air consumption. The use of low transport pressures is facilitated by the use of a large section transport piping, which makes it possible to limit pressure drops and to inject the fluid through nozzles of the desired diameter and long enough to give the fluid an initial velocity; roof while maintaining laminar flow. The arrangement of the pipes or nozzles with respect to the screw, their number and their diameter are determined according to the particular problem posed by the installation to be produced.
Thanks to the use of a large section piping, the nozzles can be arranged in a section corresponding to the section of the transport piping and not, as in known devices, in a larger volume ensuring mixing before the sending in this pipe. In other words, the nozzles provide a directional effect of the fluid which entrains the material (fig. 1).
The apparatus described ensures a double tonnage of known apparatuses, for the same diameter
screw and wear in relation to the tonnage of
material transported is halved, the
only half of the tonnage passing through a
given part of the screw, while in the screws
known, the entire tonnage contributes to
wear of the conveyor screw.
The double screw device described also allows energy savings in certain cases because the particular arrangement of this screw
allows replacement of the drive motor
single high power usual in pairs
lower power motors placed res
pectively at each end of the screw,
these two motors can work together
or separately depending on the amount of material
to be transported, which can be very variable, as, for example, in the case where an appa
reil is fed by several mills and that
only some of these mills are in service.
The improvement relates in particular to the
efficiency, given that the cos 0 of the mo-
tor can then be calculated to walk in
the best conditions for a load
given.
