Manual loom. The present invention relates to a manual loom comprising, at the rear of the frame, a chain winder provided with two brakes, in the center of the frame an interchangeable heddle control mechanism and, in front of the frame, located towards the weaver, a fabric winder fitted with a tensioner capable of oscillating on the very axis of the winding roller.
Such a loom can perform the same movements as those of large industrial looms.
It can therefore offer the advantage of faster and safer weaving work than in similar known manual looms.
In addition, one is not limited by the length of the chain of work to be performed, which can reach very important values. A particular embodiment of this loom has interchangeable heddles allowing the loom to be used either for working with strong textiles, such as wools, heavy cotton, raffia, twine, etc., or for working with fine textiles, such as mercerized cotton, thread, silks, etc.
The frame of the loom may be of wood, plastic, etc., but preferably of lightweight materials. The chassis may or may not be a table daemon.
Most of the components can be made of wood or plastic or any other suitable material, on condition, however, not to burden the whole trade. This one, for the job, can be placed on any table or on any other suitable support making it easier for the weaver.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the loom which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an overview thereof, the loom being shown, ready to operate for performing a weaving of the wool type.
Fig. 2 is a schematic view showing the detail of a chain fixture located at the rear of the loom.
Fig. 3 is a schematic view of a removable comb and harness device intended to be used for the purpose of producing a wool-type loom.
Fig. 4 is a schematic view of a removable comb and harness device intended to be used for the purpose of producing a cotton-type loom.
Fig. 5 shows, in section, the detail of a harness mechanism, common to the two types of heddles used.
Fig. 6 shows a control device for the aforementioned mechanism, arranged outside and in the center of the frame and which can be operated either directly by hand or by pedal.
Fig. 7 is a section of the fabric rewinder with tensioner.
In fig. 1, we see in 1 the frame of the loom, in 2 the chain fixer, in 3 the reel of the chain 4. The chain 4 passes through two rows of stitches 5 and 6 supposedly spaced apart at one of their working position, by means of a maneuvering device 7 acting on the healds.
This control device can be actuated by hand by means of cranks 8 or else be operated by pedals by means of an appropriate linkage.
At 9, we see the mobile device supporting the comb 10 for tightening the fabric. This device is able to slide in a slot 11 provided for this purpose. It is advantageously returned to the rear, to its normal position (close to the stitches 5), by a spring device, not shown.
Depending on the width of the device adopted, it is possible to use either direct passage shuttles such as that shown at 12, or launching shuttles, as on industrial looms.
A piece of fabric which has just been made has been shown at 13. The fabric is placed on a winder 14 which, by means of a ratchet wheel 15, can only undergo movement in the direction of winding.
The piece of fabric is put in tension by a tensioning frame 16, capable of oscillating around the axis of the reel 14 and constantly maintained in tension by a spring device fixed at 17.
The operation of the apparatus shown is extremely simple. It suffices to effect the passage of the shuttle 12 after each smooth inversion ma noeuvre by the control member 7 alternately in one direction and then in the other.
Fig. 2 clearly shows the construction and the rnploi of the rear chain fixing member. To give more understanding, the removable element 2, which is a simple bar clamped by machine screws 18. Each wire making up the chain passes through a fixed comb 19 intended to separate each wire properly has been omitted from the figure.
The warp threads, in the case of extensible textiles, stopped by the fixing device 2, are wound without tension on the winder 3 in order to prevent the threads from dragging or cluttering. In order to facilitate the use of the loom for inextensible textiles, the rewinder their 3 is provided with a crank and two adjustable brakes, not shown, which allows the chain to be wound with the desired tension without risking a return of the reel in reverse. The roller 3, which can be dismantled, is held in place by cleats 20. The threads of the chain 4 pass over an angle device 21 which can advantageously be constituted by any suitable material, facilitating the sliding of the chain, without risk of damage. wear of each thread.
The son of the warp, when the loom is arranged to operate in wool type, come to the central heddle operating device shown in FIG. 3.
We see the two rows of stitches 5 and 6. These stitches are rigid, arranged at a fixed distance and advantageously made with an opening at the top. They adopt a spiral shape 22 called a pigtail.
The mobile comb 10, independent of the heddles, is driven in a rectilinear horizontal movement and tightens the fabric forwards. It is open at its upper part, which provides, in particular for the assembly of the. chain, many advantages a) The assembly of the chain is then done only by placing the son on the loom without having to thread them into an orifice, or pass them under a bar or under any other member of the trade.
b) The rigid and fixed mesh in width always keeps the same total width of the warp when it passes over the harness, while the suspended or mobile links are liable to come together if the operator pulls too much on the weft thread and this despite the regulating role of the clamping comb, because this has no effect on the elasticity of the weft thread (in the case of elastic textiles such as wool).
c) The stiff and fixed width mesh allows, like the classic cotton type mesh, to move the warp thread by the same amount above and below its. middle position, from where he work uniform of all the warp threads and two layers of warp threads having the same tension.
d) The very accessible position of the mesh eye and the very small displacement to be given to the thread to separate it makes it very easy to unhook the side warp threads to make decreases and also easily hang them up to make increases in the process of weaving.
These four points are, in general, imperfectly carried out on the metal heddle looms designed to date and no loom makes all the warp yarns work under the same mechanical conditions.
The warp threads, when the loom is designed to operate in cotton type, reach the central heddle operating device shown in FIG. 4.
The heddles 5 ′ and 6 ′ and the mobile comb 10 ′ have the same movements as those defined previously in the wool type assembly.
The heddle meshes are, in this case, mounted floating and supported by upper 23 and lower 24 bars, preferably metallic, identically to an industrial loom. In this case, the chain is assembled using the conventional method, passing the threads, with a hook, through the stitches and the closed comb.
In fig. 5, the detail of the harness mechanism is shown. This mechanism remains common to the two types of harnesses used. The figure shows a cotton-type harness assembly.
Each harness comprises a frame 25 for fixing the upper 23 and lower 24 metal bars which carry the heddles 5 'and 6'. Each frame is arranged on an upright 26 which can slide in vertical slides arranged inside the frame. The upright 26 is the point of attachment of two flexible connecting members, cable, string, etc., which are judiciously arranged on a roller 27 at a common attachment point 28. The reciprocating movement of the heddles which separates the chain in two layers of son is caused by the simultaneous rotation of the rollers 27. We see at 29 a provision of a brake on one of these rollers, which is intended to adjust the force on the mechanism.
The previously defined rotational movement is provided by. the two levers 7 which have been shown in FIG. 6, control by a linkage, driven by pedals.
The force is transmitted directly to the rollers 27 and the operation of the levers 7 is limited by a wedge 30 fixed to the frame 1 and acting as a stop for each movement made.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the front device of the loom. We see at 31 a slit bar, fixed on the fabric winding roller 14. Each of the warp threads is placed in each slot of this bar with a stopper knot.
The roller 14 can only undergo a rotational movement in the direction of winding of the fabric thanks to the interposition of the rock 15.
. Each wire is then supported on a bar 32 of the tensioner 16, oscillating around 14 by its axis 33. The return movement of the tensioner is provided by a spring 34 fixed to the hook 17.
The springback effects can be provided by any appropriate spring system allowing easy replacement, for example metal or rubber springs.
The loom represented makes it possible to directly warp the chain, which, even industrially, is usually carried out by a special our = dissoir. This particular work is carried out by a suitable adjustment of the elements and, in particular, thanks to a judicious arrangement of brakes, by mounting the chain in tension from the front to the rear.
