Description
Puis on chauffeà haute température.
Process for forming a hard deposit on the surface of a metallic object. The present invention relates to a process for the formation of a hard deposit on the surface of a metal object, characterized in that a paste, consisting of a mixture comprising at least -Lm compound binary non-oxygenated, hard and refractory, boric acid and an organic binder, is deposited on the surface of said object and heated, first gently, then strongly until elimination of the organic binder and formation of a deposit cohesive hard, adhering firmly to the underlying metal.
The paste advantageously contains, in addition, a small dose of one or more substances which regulate the hot melting to , give to. the hardened paste a certain cohesion before melting , protect the metal against oxidation and prevent the formation of bubbles; -these bodies can be either very volatile to hot metals, such as zinc, magnesium, or acids, bases and salts.
Way, à by way of example, a method of preparing a paste which can be used to carry out the process according to the invention.
A homogeneous and very fine powder mixture of at least one carbide or silicide or metal or metalloidal boride, such as tungsten carbide, titanium, vanadium, boron, summer., And cobalt (which here acts as a binder), is mixed with a phenolaldehyde resin and boric acid powder. The mixture is wetted with a solvent for the phenolaldehyde resin, for example alcohol. Said mixture is then kneaded into a paste and is ready for use.
The formation of the hard deposit on the metal object takes place as follows: The part to harden, well cleaned and pickled on the part to , is covered on said part of a layer of said paste. The said place and the paste therein are gently heated to remove the alcohol, then, for a few minutes to 150 to 2000 C to polymerize the phenolaldehyde resin. The paste hardens and adheres to the metal part. Then we heat to high temperature. The organic body burns, the deposit heats up, but still retains its cohesion thanks to boric acid. The deposit becomes incandescent. We continue to heat up. A slight boiling occurs at the surface of the deposit.
Heat for a few more moments and allow it to cool. After grinding at the grinding wheel, the deposit is finished.
