Device for cooling an internal combustion engine. The invention relates to. Einriehtunzniii cooling an internal combustion engine by means of a liquid medium which is passed through a cavity surrounding the cylinder barrel.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that the part of the cavity which is closest to the combustion chamber is designed as a channel encompassing the upper part of the cylinder liner, on which the ducts for the entering into the cavity and for the out this exiting cooling medium are connected, and which is separated from the underlying part of the cavity by a cross section.
With such a device, the hottest part of the cylinder liner can be sufficiently cooled by fresh water flowing at high speed, while the cooler lower part of the cylinder liner is surrounded by a barrel,
in which only an insignificant amount of fresh water gets from your overlying canal due to the cross-sectional narrowing. and therefore an excessive cooling of this part of the cylinder l @ infbüelise is avoided.
It is advisable to design the channel as an annular channel to which the lines for the incoming and outgoing cooling medium are connected next to one another, so that the incoming cooling medium can flow through the ring channel over its entire length in a conduit. The lines for entry and exit. of the cooling medium, however, are also diametrically connected to the ring channel, so that the entering cooling medium branches into two partial flows, which reunite at the outlet.
The annular channel can be formed by the cylinder liner and another element of the machine, and an annular gap left between this element and the cylinder liner can serve as a cross-sectional reduction. The lower delimiting surface of the annular channel can be formed by a cylindrical thickening that extends over part of the length of the cylinder barrel. The cylinder liner can be stiffened by such a thickening.
For the purpose of better influencing the temperature profile in the cylinder barrel, an additional discharge line for the cooling medium or an additional supply line or both one and the other line can be connected to the cavity outside the channel.
In the accompanying drawings, two embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in simplified form, namely Fig. 1 shows a vertical cross section through part of a plunger piston engine, Fig. 2 shows a horizontal section along the line II-II of FIG. 1 and Fig. 3 shows a second Embodiment of the motor according to FIG. 1.
According to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the cooling water chamber 2 surrounding the cylinder liner 1 comprises an annular channel 4 located closer to the combustion chamber 3 and a dead water chamber 6 located closer to the crank chamber 5 the 'dead water roughness 6 are connected to one another through the annular gap 7.
The cooling water space 2 is bounded on the one hand by the cylinder liner 1 and on the other hand by the cooling jacket 8. At the upper part of the cooling water jacket 8, a combined inlet and outlet nozzle () is closed.
The fresh cooling water passes through the line 10 into the inlet channel 11 of the nozzle 9 and from there through the channel 12 of the cooling jacket 8 into the annular channel .1. After flowing through the ring channel 4 finite a speed of, for example, 2 msec. in the direction of the arrow, the cooling water passes through the channel 13 of the cooling jacket 8 into the outlet channel 14 of the connecting piece 9 and from there through the connecting line 15 into the cooling water rate 16 of the cylinder head 17 and then through the line 18 into the open air or to the Recooling.
The connector 9 has a tongue 19 which serves as a partition between the channels 12 and 73 and prevents a large short-circuit flow between the inlet and outlet of the cooling water. Through the annular gap 7, only an insignificant amount of the cooling water flowing through the channel 4 mixes with it. the water present in the dead water space 6, so that a relatively small amount of heat is dissipated by the water in the dead water space 6 in accordance with the lower heating of the lower part of the cylinder liner 1.
The cylinder liner 1 has a cylindrical thickening 22 which forms the lower boundary surface 23 of the annular channel 4. And at the same time the ZyEnder liner 1 is stiffened.
In the event that the heat exchange through the annular gap 7 should not be sufficient to ensure sufficient cooling of all points in the lower part of the cylinder liner, an additional supply line 24 and 24 is provided in the space 6 according to the variant shown in FIG an additional drain 25 connected for fresh cooling water. With the help of the taps. 26, 27 can be achieved by hand or automatically, for example by servo motors which are controlled by thermostats, the desired cooling state.
