A method of manufacturing parts having an axial hole and determined interior and exterior profiles. The invention relates to a method of manufacturing parts having an axial hole and defined internal and external profiles, such as those which are to serve as an internal part or an external part in certain two-part safety nuts such as those shown in fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing for example.
These nuts generally comprise, on the one hand., An inner part 1 slit longitudinally, having an axial hole provided with a thread and having a tapered outer profile, said part being screwed directly onto the bolt and, on the other hand, a outside room? of completely smooth internal profile corresponding to. the taper of the previous one. These two pieces are provided in the upper part with means which prevent them.
to rotate relative to each other, for example polygonal parts 3 engaged or ribs engaged in grooves or (keys etc., and a rette -1 integral with the outer part comes to be folded on the inner part towards the axis of the nut to form a crown between height gauges.
Is shown separately, in axial section and in plan at the fi-. 2, the exterior part and in fig. 3 the interior room.
Said inner and outer parts have, as can be seen, both an axial hole and one a single profile. exterior, the other an interior profile determined, are currently manufactured by stamping according to processes which allow to obtain a better yield than the methods by de-collage applied to. the. manufacture of such parts.
Said die-forging methods also have the advantage, compared with the de-colleting methods, of providing an absolutely smooth interior part, which obviously facilitates the operation of the nut by eliminating the risks of seizing that could, although only to a very low degree, cause the traces left by the lathe on the low-cut parts.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that an annular token is made with a flat nose and then, by a separate niatri @ age operation and comprising only one press stroke, it is produced. strikes the desired coin from this ring token.
The object of the present invention is, on the one hand, to accelerate the manufacturing operations and to reduce the cost price of the parts in question by making it possible to manufacture them in large series and, on the other hand, to improve this production. by ensuring, the making of irreproachable pieces.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, some operations of a process (the manufacture of a safety nut. A flat blank 5 of suitable size is taken (Fig. 4). This blank is placed in a die. 6, with a cylindrical internal profile held in the tool block not shown with an appropriate press on an anvil 7 (fig. 6) and a press stroke is given with a first punch 8 having the shape indicated in Fig. 6, ie a frustoconical part above the striking end.
A blank element 9 in the form of a cup with an upper edge chamfered internally as shown in is thus obtained. fig. 5.
The anvil 7 has on its upper face a flat projection 10 of low height with inclined edges (Fig. 6) which, at the time of. knock, come. imprint itself in the base face of the element 9 and determines therein a shallow recess 11 of corresponding shape (fig. 5).
The blank element 9 is then placed in a die 12 also cylindrical which replaces the die 6 in the press (fig. 7) and a press stroke is given with a second punch 13 having the profile indicated in fig. . 7, which opens the element 9 and gives it the. form of a ring or tube 14 with an upper chamfer with a very slight lower chamfer 11 '(FIG. 8). Of course, the anvil 15 used for this operation has a perforation for the passage of the end of the punch 13.
The ring 14 thus obtained, shown separately. fig. 8 cons titates the annular token which will be used to manufacture the inner and outer parts of the nut.
The lower chamfer I1 'is formed on opening due to the existence of the recess II in the blank. This chamfer prevents metal leaks into the anvil during the last strike which will be described later with regard to FIGS. 9 and 10.
The recess 11, which gives rise to ari chamfer 11 ', also facilitates the unblocking of the token in the press of FIG. 7 avoiding a burr.
In fig. 9 shows the stamping, from an annular token 11, of an external part? safety nut. This die-stamping is carried out in a die 16 which has the outer profile of the part to be obtained on the inside, using a punch 17, the outer profile of which has a Poly gonale part followed by a frustoconical part and corresponds thus to the interior profile of the room. The ring token placed at. the interior of the die is transformed into an exterior part 2 as shown in the figure.
We will notice at. fig. 9 that the body of the punch 17 has a diameter very slightly smaller, at least at its lower part, than the diameter of its guide, so that the metal driven back from the upper part of the part on minting can come in introduce at 18, into the clearance space between the punch and the guide, up to. a small height, which gives comfort to the collar 1.
We could also, to obtain this collar 4-, provide in the. lower part of the punch, above the. polygonal part, a groove of suitable size into which the forced metal would enter.
If it is a question of obtaining an internal part 1, a die 19 will be used which internally has a polygonal part followed by a frustoconical part and a smooth cylindrical punch 20 (FIG. 10). The cylindrical inner perforation of the part thus obtained will then be threaded by any suitable means, and finally the part will be split longitudinally to give it the shape shown in fig. 3.
Whether it is an external part or an internal part, the die-forging will be carried out by a single striking stroke of the punch.
We realize the speed of the operations. the whole constitutes the process of the invention and the simplicity of the presses employed.
As can be seen, the uncorking of the token and the forging of the. final part are not executed in the same press, which makes it possible to have an irreproachable part with the strictly desired dimensions, result im possible to obtain when one carries out these two operations in the same press.
In fact, the diameter of the hole in the anvil necessary for unblocking a chip, which is several millimeters thick like this, requires a clearance between the anvil and the punch which is relatively large enough, approximately 140 </ B> of mm by mm of thickness, ie. in this case, where the thickness generally varies. from 3 to 10 mm, about a clearance of 0.3 to 1 mm.
On the other hand, when the punch compresses the metal to force it to go up to forge the collar, the play between the punch and the anvil must be much smaller, and preferably between approximately 0.05 and 0.15 mm maximum. , to prevent metal leakage into the anvil and. seizure of the punch. The clearance, in the case of unblocking the token, is therefore much too great to obtain, when forging, pieces that match exactly., As is essential, the shape of the die and make a piece of exact dimensions with a completely formed collar. .
The process described therefore represents an important improvement in this regard.
