Reprinting offset printing press. The present invention relates to a reprocessing offset printing press comprising two printing units, each of which comprises a printing cylinder, an offset cylinder and a plate cylinder.
According to the invention, this printing press is characterized in that, in each printing unit, the cylinders are arranged so that the points of intersection of the axes of these cylinders, with a fictitious plane perpendicular to these axes, form, in this plane, the vertices of an isosceles triangle whose base is.
longer than its equal sides and meets the point of intersection, with said plane, of the axis of the impression cylinder, at the point of intersection, with said plane, of the axis of the cylinder carrier, the base of the triangle corresponding to the first unit, -unit which is located at the conveying end of the press, extending upwards in a generally vertical direction from the point.
of intersection of the axis of the impression cylinder of this first unit with said plane, and the base of the triangle corresponding to the second unit, which unit is located at the opposite end of the press, extending in one direction approximately horizontal from the point of intersection (the axis of the printing cylinder of this second unit with said plane, the point of intersection, with said plane, of the axis of the offset cylinder of this second unit , being located under the base of this second triangle, and in that a transfer device.
of sheets is provided between said printing cylinders, capable of conveying sheets to the printing cylinder of the second unit from the printing cylinder of the first unit, this transfer device. being arranged to apply, to the surface of the printing cylinder of the second unit, the side of the sheet which has been printed in the first unit.
The single figure of the appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the printing press forming the subject of the invention.
The press feed table shown, at the front end of which are located the usual front registration guides 101, the side registration mechanism 102 and the feed rollers 11 and 12, which are intermittently operated, and which are designed to grip each sheet in turn and present it to the claws 13 of a first printing cylinder 1.1. This cylinder constitutes one of the elements of the first printing unit of the press, a unit which also comprises an offset cylinder. 15 and a plate cylinder 1.6, both of standard shape.
Above the cliché cylinder 16 is an inking mechanism designated as a whole by the reference sign 1.7, while a wetting device 18 has been signed by 18 placed on one side of the cliché cylinder.
As can be seen from the drawing, the axes of the three cylinders 14, 15 and 16 intersect, in a plane perpendicular to these axes, the vertices of an isosceles triangle whose base (which connects the axes of cylinders 14 and 16 ) is longer than the equal sides, and the triangle is oriented such that its base extends upward from the axis of cylinder 14. The sheets fed to this first printing unit pass through the base of the triangle.
When the leading edge of each sheet, after being printed, reached. the position shown in the drawing, the claws 13 the die deliver to the claws 19 provided on a transfer cylinder 20. This cylinder, in turn, transfers the sheet to a second transfer cylinder 21 provided with a set of claws 22 and, by firing from this last cylinder, the sheet is taken by the claws 23 of a second impression cylinder 24. Since there is an even number of transfer cylinders, the sheets, after having been printed on the impression cylinder 14 are turned over, i.e. they are transferred to the cylinder 24 with their previously printed surface facing towards the axis of the cylinder 24, so that they can be removed on the second impression cylinder.
The cylinder 24 constitutes one of the elements of the second printing unit which also comprises an offset cylinder 25 and a plate cylinder 26. The three cylinders of this unit are arranged, with respect to each other, exactly as they are. same manner as those of the first unit, but in this case the base of the isosceles triangle extends approximately horizontally from the axis of the impression cylinder 24, the triangle being inverted, so that the plate cylinder 26 is located on one of the sides of the impression cylinder 24, leaving the upper part of the impression cylinder free of any encumbrance with regard to the printing elements; this upper part can therefore cooperate freely with a device for receiving the sheets.
Above the plate cylinder 26 is an inking mechanism 27 which is substantially identical to mechanism 17 and on the side of the cylinder is a humidifier mechanism 28 which is similar to mechanism 18, although it is oriented. in the opposite direction, as it must necessarily be the case, since the direction of rotation of cylinder 26 is opposite to that of cylinder 16. The fact of being able to use similar inking and moistening mechanisms for the two units is a important factor from the point of view of the cost of the machine. Of course, this also applies to the printing cylinders themselves, and to the two similar transfer cylinders.
All the rolls are preferably of the same size with the exception of the usual slight differences and are driven to make only one revolution in each press cycle by means of gears (not shown) which come into engagement with each other.
Immediately above the impression cylinder 24 is mounted a transfer cylinder 29 provided with claws 30 which are. provided to take the sheets from the claws 23 of the impression cylinder 24 and bring them upwards to transfer them to the claws 31 of a receiving conveyor 32 with endless chain.
This is suitably guided upwards and above the eliché-holder cylinder 26 provided with its inking and litumector mechanisms 27 and 28 and above the working space located in the vicinity of the latter and in continuation down in order to deposit the sheets on a stack 33 supported by a receiving platform 34.
Between the printing units is housed a platform 35 placed above the transfer cylinders, leaving a working space for a mechanic in the vicinity of the cylinders 15 and 16 and the inking mechanism 17. The receiving platform 34 is sufficiently distant from the cylinders 25 and 26 and from the inking and moistening devices 27 and 28 to leave a working space above the floor, in the vicinity of this unit. suitable for the mechanic.
Due to the short time between prints, some of the ink from the first print can adhere to the surface of the second print cylinder, forming a carry over image which takes precedence over the following sheets. One of the advantages of the press shown is that, thanks to the precision with which successive sheets are placed on the second impression cylinder, the transferred image always appears in exactly the same place on the cylinder. , place which corresponds to that of the impression on the sheet.
Thus, in ordinary cases, there is neither smearing nor double printing and the cylinder 24 can be of ordinary construction similar to the cylinder 14.
However, in certain cases it is good to avoid entirely the deposition of ink on the cylinder 24 and, for this purpose, a positive device has been provided for wetting its surface with an ink repelling fluid. This device can be of any suitable construction and can use any suitable wetting liquid. As has been shown, it comprises a wetting mechanism 36 (similar to mechanisms 18 and 28), located below the level of the platform 35 and intended to come into contact with the surface of the cylinder 24 between the point reception and the gripping point (the leaves.
Although the surface of the metal cylinder itself is usually satisfactory to support the wetting liquid, in the drawing the cylinder 24 is shown as having a coating 37 (eg, zinc, aluminum, stainless steel. oxidizable or other suitable material) ;; grooved as for lithographic use, and fixed to the cylinder by screws 38 and clamps 39. As a wetting liquid, the humidification solutions used can be used. in lithographic printing.
