fig.
(fig.
(fig. 10).
Automatic shut-off device for a container having a neck.
The present invention relates to an automatic shut-off device for a container having a neck, such as a flask and a bottle. It is operated using a finger of the hand holding the container, to pour the contents of the latter, and closes automatically after use. The seal is obtained without having to resort to valves, seals or the like subject to deterioration.
According to the invention, this closure device comprises an at least partially flexible tube connected with a dewlap sealed to the neck of the container and a throttling member biased by elastic means, so as to throttle the tube and thus close the receptacle, this throttling member being susceptible to be actuated by hand against said means, so as not to constrict the tube and thus allow the contents of the container to flow.
The shutter device which is the subject of the invention can be made from different hawks, as will be clearly understood by referring to the appended drawing which shows, by way of example, some embodiments of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a first embodiment, the
Figs 2 and 3 are horizontal sections showing the shutter device in the closed and open position respectively.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section of a second embodiment, the
fig. 5 and 6 are also vertical sections, but taken in a plane perpendicular to that of FIG. 4 and showing the shutter device closed and open, respectively.
Figs. 7 and 8 show, in vertical section, a third embodiment in the closed and open position, respectively.
Fig. 9 is a vertical section of a variant of this third embodiment.
Figs. 10 and 12 are vertical sections of a fourth embodiment, in the closed and open position, respectively, while FIG. 11 is a side elevation of the neck of the bottle showing this closure device, and
figs. 13 and 14 are vertical sections, similar to those of FIGS. 10 and 12, of a variant of the fourth embodiment.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 3, the neck 1 of the bottle has laterally a notch or a radial hole 2 in which is engaged the free end of a small flexible tube 3, made of rubber for example, the other end of which is inserted into the neck 1 where an outer bead 4 with which it is provided forms a tight seal with an inner groove 5 of the neck. The free end to the tube 3 dice. passing 1'eneoche 2 of the neck passes through a corresponding hole 6 of a rotary cap 7, constituting the choke member, capping the neck, and ends flush with the outer wall of the cap.
Requested 'to turn around the neck by a torsion spring 8, the cap 7 is prevented from doing so by the tube 3 and, under the pressure of the spring, it strangles the tube by clamping it between a wall of the hole 6 and the opposite wall of the tube. notch 2, which has the effect of hermetically sealing the bottle (fig. 1 and 2).
To open the shutter device, it suffices to press the finger on a fin 9 of the cap, in the desired direction to rotate it against the action of the spring 8 until the hole 6 comes opposite I 'notch 2, which releases the tube 3 (Fig. 3) and allows the latter to pour the contents of the bottle. As soon as you stop pressing on the fin 9, the cap returns to its initial position in which it strangles the tube.
In the form shown in figs. 4 to 6, the throttle member is constituted by a key 10 which can turn in a housing 12 threaded transversely to the neck 1 of the bottle. Engaged in the hole 13 of the key, the tube 3 is constricted by pinching between the wall of this hole and that of the neck, under the action of the spring 14 which urges the turn key in im direction (fig. 4 and 5). By turning the key in the opposite direction, the t, tube is released.
(fig. 6) and thus opens the shutter device.
As seen in Figs. 4 to 6, the tube 3 does not have a bead; being sealed in this example, it is glued or otherwise sealed in the neck of the bottle.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 7 and 8, a piston 15 constitutes the throttling member and clamps the tube 3 under the action of a thrust spring 16 which slides it in a housing 17. To release the tube, the piston is pressed (fig. 8) and the liquid can flow through the tube and through an elbow duct 18 formed in the piston and in which the tube is engaged. The variant shown in FIG. 9 differs from the previous form in that the duct 18 'of the piston 15' is straight and is masked, in the closed position of the obturator device, by the upper wall of the housing 17 '. In addition, the piston 15 'is inclined at an angle convenient for operation with a finger of the hand holding the bottle.
The housing 17 or 17 'forms part of a cap 19 which is screwed onto the neck 1 of the bottle with the interposition of a sealing washer 20, to connect in a leaktight manner to the neck 1 the tube 3 sealed in a duct 11 of the cap. Of course, if the manufacture of the bottle was suitable, the housing 17 or 17 'could be provided directly in the neck 1, as, conversely, the closure devices according to FIGS. 1 to 6 could include a piece attached to the neck by screwing or otherwise.
This observation also applies to the other embodiments described below.
In fig. 10 to 12, the neck 1 of the bottle, or the part which is attached to it, has a profiled transverse groove 29 in which two jaws 21 can slide embracing the e. xfree end of tube 3 sealed in the neck. A ferrule 22, biased by a compression spring 23, acts by its internal edges 24 on the surfaces of the tube 25 of the jaws 21 and clamps these jaws on the tube which they constrict.
(fig. 10). If the ferrule is lowered against the action of the spring (fig. 12), the elasticity of the tube 3 causes it to resume its shape, while the jaws move apart, and the liquid from the painted bottle flows through. the tube.
As soon as we let go of the ferrule, the jaws would be refitted and the seal is restored.
A lip 26 on one of the jaws 21 covers the gap between them in the closed position.
According to the variant shown in FIGS. 13, 14, the jaws 21 'have the form of hollow shells embracing the top of the neck 1 or the part which takes its place, and have, at the base, a flange 27 engaged in an outer groove 28 of the neck, which allows them to move away and come closer while remaining in engagement with the neck. For the rest, the operation is similar to that of the shutter device previously described.
