Solid product containing amines or salts thereof and process for the production thereof. The present invention relates to a solid product containing primary aromatic amines or salts thereof, in particular to one which contains primary aromatic amines in an easily diazotizable form, and to a process for preparing this product.
If primary aromatic amines, which are insoluble or sparingly soluble in water, are subjected to diazotization in a dilute mineral acid medium, they are diazotized only very slowly and in certain cases cannot be completely converted into the diazonium compound, both of which are unchanged A residue containing amine and insoluble by-products remains.
This difficulty occurring in the diazotization. is at least partly due to the difficulty (to wet the amine and to bring the particles of the amine into intimate contact with the solution of the nitrite and the acid. It is known that diazotization can be facilitated by using the dia7otation agent. mix adds a substance which favors the wetting of the insoluble or poorly soluble amine.
Products containing an amine and such a substance have already been described. For example, in British Patents Nos. 219349 and 224925 it is proposed to use soluble or more readily soluble forms of aromatic amines for dyeing Ccllulose acetate with azo dyes, which are obtained by treating the amines with substances which are fatty or oily Have character, such as B. certain derivatives of higher fatty acids or certain carboxyl compounds which have salt-forming groups in their structure.
It has also already been stated that the product can be concentrated or dried.
In the British patent. No. 439560 further states that the diazotization of high molecular weight primary aromatic bases which are sparingly soluble in water should be carried out in the presence of a capillary active substance.
The solid product according to the present invention, which contains at least one dispersant and a primary aromatic amine or salt of a primary aromatic amine which is at least sparingly soluble in water, is characterized in that practically all particles of the amine or the amine salt have a diameter which is no larger than 50 microns.
According to the method, which is also the subject of the invention, you can insoluble or sparingly soluble, solid, primary aromatic amines and insoluble or sparingly soluble salts of aromatic amines in a form in which they are normally found in a dye bath Diazotized the low concentrations used, obtained by drying them in the presence of dispersants and grinding the solid product obtained and separating a dried product, the particles of which practically all have a diameter not exceeding 50 microns.
The limit of the favorable particle size is surprisingly clearly defined. If the milling and classification are carried out in such a way as to produce powders containing particles up to 60 microns in diameter, the resulting powders are much less easily diazotized and, in certain cases, cannot be completely converted to the diazonium compound be achieved.
Solid primary primary aromatic amines that are insoluble or sparingly soluble in water include, for example, 4-amino-3-nitrotoluene, 1-methoxy-4-amino-3-nitrobenzene, 1-methoxy-2-amino-5-nitrobenzene, o-Nitraniline, 4-chloro-2-nitraniline and dianisidine, and as a sparingly soluble salt of a primary aromatic amine, for example 2,5-dichloroaniline sulfate, can be used.
Examples of suitable classes of dispersants are 1. ethylene oxide condensation products, 2. the condensation products of aromatic sulfonic acids and aldehydes and their salts (for example the sodium salt of the condensation product of naphthalenefonic acid and formaldehyde) and 3.
the water-soluble salts of sulfonic acids or sulfonic acid esters which have an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing at least 10 carbon atoms (for example oleyl sodium sulfate,
Stearamidoethyl sodium sulfate and the alkali metal salts of 4-oleylamino-1-methoxybenzene-2-sulfonic acid iuid of oleyl-N-methyltaurine). Exceptionally good results are achieved when 2 dispersants, one of which is taken from one of the above-mentioned classes (2) and (3), are used together.
Depending on requirements, polyoxy compounds, for example dextrin, can be added to the mixture.
Mixing the amine or amine; salts with the dispersants and water can be carried out in such a way that the aqueous paste of the amine or amine salt with dispersants or with an aqueous solution of dispersants; means simply stirred or the aqueous paste of the amine or amine salt is mixed or ground with the dispersant in a suitable, known mixing or grinding device.
The drying of the mixture can be followed by evaporating the water or adding a water-soluble, water-sorbing salt to the mixture, such as. B. sodium sulfate, added, or by combining these two metho. You can add further water-soluble salts to the mixture before or after the drying operation in order to dilute the amine product, for example the trisodium salt of naphthalene-1,3,6 trisulphonic acid. In certain cases it has been shown that adding these salts as thinners increases the stability of the products.
if they are kept for a long time before use.
If necessary, a solid acid or a solid acid salt and, if desired, sodium nitrite can be added to the amine products.
The grinding of the dried mixture for the purpose of converting the amine product into an easily diazotized form can, for example, in a hammer mill, which also acts as a processing device, for example in the mill that is used in America. Patent No. 2314251, or in a simple impact mill followed by a sifting device, wherein the discharged coarse material, which contains particles greater than 50 microns in diameter, can be returned to the mill and regrind .
The products produced by the process according to the invention from insoluble or poorly soluble amines or amine salts are soft powders which quickly disperse in water or in a dilute mineral acid. You can use the procedure normally used for more soluble amines,
are quickly and practically completely diazotized and are therefore particularly suitable for machine dyeing ben by the azo process. In addition, the products according to the invention, owing to their easy dispersibility without strong increase and because of their easy diazotizability, have the outstanding technical advantage that they can be completely diazotized at a dilution which corresponds to the dilution normally used in a normal dye bath, and consequently in the actual vessel which is used to dye the textile material,
can be diazotized, whereby the annoying rise and diazotization can be avoided ver in a separate vessel. When working in such a dilute solution, these products are dispersed into a state suitable for diazotization immediately after the products are introduced into water.
Furthermore, since the volume of the solution in the dyebath is relatively large, the need to use ice for: lufreclitei @ lialtnns; - a low temperature during the exotic diazotization reaction is almost or completely eliminated, while with the methods currently used it is often similar amounts of ice are required, namely because of the high concentration used for the diazotization and also because of the need to use it.
on lieil, eni water for the beginning (,; ending rise of certain amines.
The products according to the invention are also of considerable weight for printing processes, since they can be stirred directly with the thickener, which was previously only possible with very easily soluble salts of easily diazotizable bases.
In the following examples the parts (mean parts by weight. Example 1.
50 parts of 4-amino-3-nitrotoluene, 8 parts of the sodium salt of the condensation product of 2 moles of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and 1 mole of formaldehyde, 4 parts of sodium 4-oleylamino-1-methoxybenzene-2-sulfonate and 121 / ' 2 parts of water are mixed thoroughly for 2 hours in a Werner-Pfleiderer mixing machine. 38 parts of anhydrous sodium sulfate are added and mixing is continued for 2 hours.
The resulting mixture is dried in an air oven at 40 G and ground in a Christie and Norris hammer mill which has a 24 mesh per centimeter sieve. The milled powder is sifted to remove any 50 micron over increasing diameter particles and the coarser material is returned to the mill.
The product thus obtained can be as follows. are used: The sifted powder is stirred with 500 parts of water until complete dispersion has occurred, and 4 parts of oleaginous hydrochloric acid and 4 parts of oleaginous sodium nitrite solution are added. The diazotization is complete in 5 minutes, a clear solution being obtained, free of any deposit or suspended material.
If the grinding and sifting are carried out in such a way that a powder is produced, which contains particles with a diameter of up to 60 microns, the diazotization mixture obtained according to the above conditions contains a considerable amount of undissolved solid material, which after further standing or Stirring does not completely dissolve.
Example 2.
50 parts of 1-methoxy-4-amino-3-ilitrobenzene, @@ parts of the sodium salt of the condensation product of 2 moles of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and 1 mole of formaldehyde, 4 parts of sodium 4-oleylamino, 1- methoxybenzene-2-sulfonate and 171: z parts of water are mixed gyründlicli for 2 hours in a Werner Pfleiderer mixer. 38 parts of anhydrous sodium sulfate are added and mixing is continued for 2 hours.
The resulting mixture is dried in an air oven at 400.degree. C. and ground in an Ohristie and Norris mill which has a sieve that has 24 meshes per centimeter. The ground powder is sifted to remove any particles greater than 50 microns in diameter and the coarser material is returned to the mill.
The product thus obtained can be used as follows: 4 parts of the sifted powder are stirred in 500 parts of water until dispersion is complete, 4 parts of 35% hydrochloric acid and 4 parts of 25% sodium nitrite solution are added. The diazotization is over after 5 minutes, a clear solution being obtained which is free of any deposits or suspended material.
If the grinding and sifting are carried out in such a way that a powder is produced which contains particles with a diameter of up to 60 microns, then the diazotization mixture obtained according to the above information contains a considerable amount of undissolved solid material, which after further standing or Stirring does not completely dissolve.
Example 3. 50 parts of 2.5 dichloroaniline sulfate, 8 parts of the sodium salt of the condensation product of 2 moles of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and 1 mole of formaldehyde, 4 parts of sodium 4-oleylamino 1-methoxybenzene-2, sulfonate and 10 parts of water mixed thoroughly in a Werner-Pfleiderer mixer for 2 hours.
38 parts of trisodium naphthalene-1,3,6-trisulfonate are then added and mixing is continued. 2 hours away. The resulting mixture is dried in an air oven at 45 to 500 C and ground in a beater mill equipped with a classifier until practically all the particles have a diameter of less than 50 microns.
The product obtained in this way can be used as follows: - M 1 an stir 5 parts of the sifted powder in 1000 parts of water until complete dispersion has occurred and 5 parts of 35% hydrochloric acid are added 4.5 parts of 20% sodium nitrite solution. The diazotization of the base is complete after 10 minutes, a clear solution being obtained which is free of any deposits or suspension of solid material.
Excess mineral acid is removed from the solution by adding 12.5 parts of 50% sodium acetate solution. Finally, 25 parts of common salt are dissolved in the solution, which is then ready for the treatment of textile material which has been padded with a solution of a coupling component, for example an arylamide of 2,3 @ oxynaphthoic acid.
. EXAMPLE 50 parts of 4-chloro-2-nitroaniline, 8 parts of the sodium salt of the condensation product of 1 mole of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and 1 mole of formaldehyde, 2 parts of sodium 4-oleyl-amino-1-methoxybenzene-2 sulfonate and 2.5 parts of water are thoroughly mixed in a Werner Pfleiderer älisch machine for 2 hours.
42 parts of trinatrium naphthalene-1,3,6-trisulfonate are then added, and mixing is continued for 2 hours. The resulting mixture is dried in an air oven at 45 to 5011 C and ground in a hammer mill equipped with an air classifier, for example in a mill as described in American Patent No. 2314251, until practically all the particles have a diameter of less than 50 microns .
The product thus produced can be used as follows: 3.5 parts of the sifted powder are stirred in 1000 parts of water until complete dispersion has occurred, and 35 parts of 35% hydrochloric acid and 4 parts of 20% sodium nitrite solution are added. The diazotization of the base is complete after .10 minutes, a clear solution free of any deposits or suspended material being obtained.
Excess mineral acid is eliminated from the solution by adding 3.5 parts of 50% sodium acetate solution, whereupon 1.6 parts of 30% acetic acid are added and finally 25 parts of sodium chloride are dissolved in the solution. The solution is then ready for the treatment of textile material which has been padded with a solution of a coupling component. Example 5.
50 parts of dianisidine, 1.5 parts of the condensation product of cetyl alcohol and 17 moles of ethylene oxide and 50 parts of water who are thoroughly mixed in a Baker-Perkins @ Misclimaschine for 1 hour. 48.5 parts of sodium 1,3,6-naphthalene trisulphonate are added and mixing is continued for a further hour.
The mixture obtained is ground in an air oven at 45 to 50 ° C. and ground in a mill equipped with a classifier until practically all the particles have a diameter of less than 50 microns.
The product obtained in this way can be used as follows. Parts of the sifted powder are stirred in 1000 parts of water until complete dispersion has occurred, and 5 parts -35% hydrochloric acid and 3 parts are added , 5 parts of 20% sodium mitrite solution. The dianotation of the base is complete after 10 minutes, with a clear,
solution free of any deposit or suspended material. Excess mineral acid is removed from the solution by adding 0.25 part of sodium bicarbonate. Finally, 0.5 part of sodium bicarbonate and 25 parts of common salt are added. The solution is then used to treat textile material with. a solution of a coupling component has been padded, ready. Example, 6.
50 parts of o-nitroaniline, 8 parts of the condensation product of 2 moles of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and 1 mole of formaldehyde, 4 parts of sodium 4-oleylamino-1-, methoxybenzene-2-sulfonate and 15 parts of water are in Thoroughly mixed in a Baker-Perkins mixer for 2 hours. 38 parts of anhydrous sodium sulfate are added and mixing is continued for 2 hours.
The mixture obtained is dried in an air oven at 45 to 500 C and ground in a beater mill equipped with a viewing device until practically all the particles have a diameter of less than 50 microns.
Instead of the 50 parts of o-nitroaniline used in the above example, 50 parts of 5-nitro-o-anisidine can be used.
The product thus produced can be used in a dyeing process as follows. A pad solution is prepared as follows: 8 parts of 2,3-0xynaphthoic acid, a-naphthy 1-amine are made into a paste with 10 parts of Turkish red oil (501 / o neutralized with soda) and mixed with 160 parts of boiling water and 18 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (d = 1.3).
The clear solution is cooled to 500 C by adding about 160 parts of cold water which contains 4 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (d = 1.3) and 7.5 parts of 40% formaldehyde solution. After standing for 5 minutes, the solution is introduced into so much cold water that 2000 parts of solution are obtained. 100 parts of washed and hydro-extracted bleached cotton are introduced into the above solution and isi-impregnated for 20 to 30 minutes. The yarn is then pulled out of the solution and drained.
A developing solution is prepared as follows: 7 parts of the clispersible, 5-nitro-o-anisidine-containing product prepared according to Example 6 are placed in a dye trough containing 1000 parts of cold water. The suspension is mixed well. 6.1 parts of hydrochloric acid (d = 1.16) are then added and the suspension is again mixed thoroughly. 1.74 parts of sodium nitrite dissolved in about 10 parts of cold water are then quickly added to the dyeing trough with stirring.
After the bath has become clear, 3.1 parts of sodium acetate, which are dissolved in about 20 parts of cold water, and then 2.6 parts of 50% acetic acid and 50 parts of table salt are added. Cold water is added to make 2000 parts of solution.
The already impregnated and dewatered yarn is introduced into the above developing solution and developed for 20 to 30 minutes. The yarn is then rinsed in cold water and soaped for 1/2 hour in a boiling bath containing 3 parts of soap and 3 parts of sodium carbonate in 1000 parts of solution. The yarn is rinsed and dried.
