Support for automatic pyrophoric lighter. The present invention relates to a support for automatic pyrophoric lighter which is characterized in that it comprises a housing intended to receive at least part of an automatic lighter, and actuating means intended to cooperate with the locking device of the lighter to cause the triggering of the latter following its movement in said housing.
By automatic pyrophoric lighter is meant a lighter of the type comprising a wheel mechanism intended to automatically produce sparks igniting a wick when a locking device is actuated so as to release said mechanism. In lighters of this type, the locking device is usually a click.
The appended drawing represents, by way of examples, two embodiments of the support forming the subject of the invention, automatic lighters not included in the invention also being shown for explanatory purposes.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the first embodiment provided with an automatic lighter.
Fig. 2 is a detailed sectional view of the support shown in FIG. 1, the lighter being. also shown in section in a position different from that of 1e, fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cut! according to the line III-III of FIG. 1. FIG. 4 is a section taken along line IV-IV of FIG. 1.
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the second embodiment also provided with an automatic lighter.
Fig. 6 is a detail view of the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the lighter shown for explanatory purposes being in a position different from that of FIG. 5.
In the two embodiments shown, the support comprises a base 10 and a housing 11 fixed to this base by screws 12. The housing 11 is open at its upper end and constitutes a housing intended to receive a lighter. automatic pyrophoric bearing the general reference 13. The housing 11 constitutes the housing in which the lighter 13 is intended to be slid the bottom forward, as shown, and comprises actuating means, described below, intended to cooperate with the lighter, so as to trigger the triggering of its locking device following its movement in said housing.
The automatic lighter presented only for explanatory purposes comprises a body 14 which serves as a fuel tank, and which is provided with an upper plate 15 on which the mechanism producing the sparks is mounted. A lighter 16, housed in a bore 17, is urged by a spring 18, against the sawtooth periphery of a wheel 19, rotatably mounted on an axis 20 extending between the upper parts 21 of the side walls of the lighter body if killed above the upper plate 15.
The rotation of the wheel produces sparks those projected by the stone on the end of the wick 22 which comes out of the body of the lighter by a wick holder tube 23 mounted on the upper plate 15, the wick thus being ignited.
A cover 24 is also rotatably mounted on the shaft 20 and a sliding pawl 25 pushed by a spring 26 engages a ratchet wheel 27 integral with the Model lette. 19. A spring 28 tends to rotate the cover 24 around the axis 20 to bring it into its open position shown in FIG. 2; the pawl 25 and the ratchet wheel 27 are arranged so that said ratchet wheel and, consequently, the wheel 19, are placed in rotation during the opening movement of the cover 24.
The cover also carries a choke cap 29 which covers the end of the wick 22 when the cover is in the closed position shown in FIG. 1.
The lighter also comprises a snap locking device intended to hold the cover 24 in its closed position. This device consists of a plate 30 slidably mounted on the upper plate 15 and carrying a hook 31 cooperating with a recess 32 made in the cover 24 when the latter is closed. A spring 33 recalls the plate 30 in the position where the hook 31 is engaged in the recess 32. To release the cover, so that it opens under the action of its spring 28, it is necessary to slide the plate 30 against the action of its spring 33.
It is for this purpose that a wheel 34 is rotatably mounted on the wick holder tube 23 The wheel 34 carries a cam 35 which engages in -His hole 36 made in the plate 30 and cooperates with one of the edges 37 of the hole 36, so that, when commu ning a partial rotation to the wheel 34, by means. with the thumb, for example, the plate 30 is forced to slide against the action of the spring 33, thus disengaging the hook 31 from the recess 32; this is the usual way of operating the lighter when using without the holder shown.
To operate the lighter when it is mounted in the support shown in fig. 1 to 4, the plate 30 is provided with an extension 38 in the form of a T which projects outside the body of the lighter. The support shown is provided with a vertical slot 39 made in the back of the housing 11 and tines in the passage of the extension 38 On either side of said slot are arranged cams 40 fixed to the outer surface of the housing 11.
Each cam 40 is provided with an inclined surface 41 on which the arms of the extension 38 @en form. T rest when the lighter is pressed into the housing 11, the cooperation between said extension 38 and said surfaces forcing the smooth neck plate 30 to move against the action of its spring to trigger the locking device @and operate the lighter. A piston 42 is slidably mounted in a vertical hole 43 made in the base 10 of the support and a spring 44 pushes the piston 42 upwards.
In its rest position in the support, the lower end of the lighter is in contact with the piston 42 and the arms of the T-shaped extension 38 are not yet in contact with the inclined surfaces 41, which does not occurs only when the lighter is pushed down into the housing 11, against the action of the piston. 42.
When you have triggered the lighter, you can use it by leaving it in the holder or you can remove it. To facilitate the removal of the lighter from the support, the upper part of the housing 11 comprises a notched part 45. After use, it suffices to fold the cover 24 as shown in FIG. 1, to extinguish the flame, after which the lighter is again ready for use.
However, the extension 38 has the drawback of projecting outside the body of the lighter. The embodiment shown in Figs. 5 and 6 is intended to be em ployée with a lighter which does not have this drawback. In this second embodiment, the support also comprises a base 10 on which is fixed a housing 11 by means of screws 12.
This box is open at its upper end to receive an automatic lighter of the same type as that described with reference to fig. 1 to 4, except that it does not have an extension 38, the same reference signs designating the same parts as in figs. 1 to 4.
This second embodiment of the support which is the subject of the invention comprises an actuating lever 50 pivoted on an axis 51 disposed between a pair of supports 52 provided on the front wall of the housing 11. This actuating lever , mounted on a pin 51, is applied, under the action of a spring 53, against a stop 54 which brings together the supports 52.
The sliding plate 30 of the lighter used has at its end carrying the hook 31 a tab 55 which passes through a slot made in a cover plate 56. (This assembly, identical to that of the lighter described above, is perfectly visible in plan at the bottom. fig. 3).
The outer end of the tab 55 is flush with the adjacent end of the cover plate 56 when the sliding plate 30 is in its locking position with the cover 24 of the lighter (Fig. 5), in which position the hook 31 enters. the recess provided in the cover 24. The operating lever 50 is narrower than the width of the tab 55, and, when the lighter is mounted in the holder, the lever 50 and the tab 55 are aligned.
When the lighter is inserted into the housing 11, the tongue 55 causes the lever 50 to tilt against the action of the spring 53 and protrudes it, after which said lever returns to its starting position, that is to say in contact with the stop 54, as shown in FIG. 5. If the lighter is now removed from the housing 11, the lever 50 comes to cooperate with the tongue 55 and, bearing on the stop 54 as shown in FIG. 6, re pushes said tab as the latter passes.
The movement thus communicated to the tongue of the sliding plate 30 brings the. release of the hook 31 from the recess made in the cover 24 which then opens freely under the action of its spring 28. During this opening movement, the wheel 1e9 is rotated and sparks are generated. found projected onto the wick 22.
It can therefore be seen that once the lighter shown is fully inserted into the support, it automatically functions to light the wick when, to use it, it is removed from the support. It is also possible to use it in the usual way as a pocket lighter. This lighter has the advantage of not having any annoying protruding part of the type of the lighter intended to be used in the embodiment of the support shown in FIGS. 1 to 4.
In a third embodiment, the actuating lever 50 can be arranged so as to operate the lighter when the latter is introduced into the support. In this case, it is advantageous to also provide the support with a similar spring piston to the piston 42 of the embodiment shown in FIG. 1.
In another embodiment, it is also possible to replace the operating lever by a projecting part inside the support, provided with an inclined surface which comes into contact with the tongue 55 when pushes the lighter fully into the support, against the action of a res piston preferably.
