Selon la présente invention, l'anneau d'étanchéité rotatif d'un dispositif du type ci-dessus est porté par l'extrémité de la paroi extérieure d'un organe annulaire de section radiale en forme (le [J et qui est déformable de façon élastique pour permettre Lui déplace ment axial de ladite paroi extérieure par rapport à sa paroi intérieure, cette dernière étant fixée à l'élément rotatif;
Sealing device. This invention relates to a sealing device, constituting a seal between a rotary element and a non-rotary element such as the shaft of a pump and the casing of said pump. Known devices provided for this purpose include a sealing ring rotating with the rotating element and bearing axially against the face of a non-rotating element. Such rotating seal rings are made of a soft rubbing material, wearing out slightly and retaining a good sealing effect between rotating and non-rotating elements.
According to the present invention, the rotary sealing ring of a device of the above type is carried by the end of the outer wall of an annular member of radial section shaped (the [J and which is deformable from resiliently to allow it to move axially said outer wall relative to its inner wall, the latter being fixed to the rotating member;
said rotating ring being constantly pressed axially against a non-rotating surface which is opposite to it, by spring means housed in the annular cavity formed by the walls of the [j-shaped radial section of this annular member and ensuring the deformation of this latest.
This deformation giving rise to the axial displacement of the sealing ring under the action of the spring means being obtained by making said member of a flexible material.
In a preferred embodiment, the [J-shaped radial section annular member is made of rubber or a; similar deformable elastic material, such as, for example, a thin and flexible sheet, in the form of a tube curved on itself and comprising an annular cavity formed by its inner wall and by its outer wall, and which is provided with a rim turned inwards at the end of its outer wall, on which the rotary sealing ring is fixed, and a spring, acting axially, housed in this annular cavity and which bears against said rim,
and thus tends to elongate the outer wall of this member relative to. its inner wall, this by an axial sliding of the fold formed between the two walls. As the use of a spring pressing directly against said flange of the annular member constituted by a deformable elastic material may be unfavorable, a stop ring interposed between said flange and the corresponding end of the spring is recommended.
A ring is fixed to the rotary member and extends into the annular cavity formed by the walls of the annular member, to fix the latter to the rotary member and to constitute a stop shoulder where the bearing rests. other end of the spring.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention. Fig. 1. is a longitudinal section of the sealing device and FIG. 2 is an end view taken from the plane a-a of FIG. 1., part 14 being removed. Reference numeral 1 indicates a rotary shaft provided with a bearing surface at 2. 3 is an annular rubber member comprising an inner wall and an outer wall, spaced apart and cylindrical 4 and 5.
The inner wall 4 is pressed firmly against the surface of the shaft 1 by a drive ring 6 fixed to said shaft and extending into the annular cavity 7 and covering a bearing surface 8 which comprises said inner wall 4. The wall exterior 5 of this annular member is provided with an interior flange 9, the interior part of which is supported by a stop ring 10 made of metal.
Between the stop ring 10 and the annular shoulder 11 of the drag ring 6 there is a coil spring 12, which is compressed. 13 is a rotating sealing ring made of a soft rubbing material, carried by the flange 9 of the outer wall 5 and abutting against a non-rotating part 14 under the action of the spring 12.
It is clear that the rotating shaft 1, it drags with it the drive ring 6, the annular member 3 and the sealing ring 13; the latter presses constantly against the non-rotating part 14.
Leakage of pressurized fluid between the contact surface of the rotating part and that of the non-rotating part due, for example, to the wear of the rotating sealing ring, is prevented by the fact that this ring fits. moves axially as it wears, under the influence of the spring 12, the necessary axial displacement of this ring being authorized by the axial sliding movement which occurs between the inner wall 4 and the outer wall 5, authorized in turn by the fold that connects them. In the case where a thin and flexible sheet is used instead of rubber for the annular member 3, the part of the fold between the inner wall and the outer one can be provided with concentric undulations.
In order to prevent any angular offset between the rotary shaft 1 and the rotary seal ring 13, a positive engagement, allowing freedom for axial displacement, is provided between the inner cylindrical face of the ring. ring 13 and the adjacent face of the drag ring 6. The device shown in the figure for this purpose consists of a tooth 15 with which the periphery of the drive ring is provided and which penetrates into a housing 16 made in the rotating sealing ring.
Several of these teeth and housings can be provided; other forms of engagement allowing axial displacement can also be adopted.
