Electric starter motor for prime movers. The present invention is an electric starter motor for starting engines, e.g. B. of internal combustion engines for vehicles or for other drive purposes. Starter engines are among the engines in which a shaft driven by the armature, coming with the engine in drive engagement part for the purpose of decoupling from the engine, for.
B. for the purpose of decoupling a pinion of the starter motor from a gear of an internal combustion engine, is axially displaceable. It is desirable to be able to quickly stop the armature of the motor by a brake when it has reached the retracted position. Further it is desirable; to protect the armature shaft bearing against dirt.
In the case of the electric starter motor according to the invention, both are achieved in that it has a friction brake element which can be rotated by the armature shaft and which works together with a housing part in the retracted position of the part that comes into drive engagement with the engine.
The accompanying drawing shows a vertical section of part of an exemplary embodiment of the electric starter motor according to the invention.
In the drawing, a denotes the armature shaft and b denotes the rotor housing. This anchor wave is a. not only rotatable, but also axially displaceable in order to produce a separable connection between a pinion c on the outer end of the shaft and a gearwheel, not shown, of the internal combustion engine. The pinion c thus forms a part which is driven by the armature shaft and comes into drive engagement with the force inasehine.
On the outer end of the shaft a sits behind the pinion c a brake element, in the form of a disc d with a hollow frustoconical flange e, on the inner surface of an annular brake lining f made of a material as it is commonly used in brakes and clutches conditions attached , is. That the end of the motor housing b is on the side of this brake disc d. provided with a bearing g for the armature shaft a and has.
an eye h, with an outer frustoconical surface which corresponds to the size of the surface and the apex angle of the inner surface of the brake lining f .. This housing is the end. Also provided with an annular rim; j which, when the armature shaft is withdrawn, extends in the axial direction over the flange c of the brake disc d, but without touching this face.
When the armature shaft a. is pushed forward, i.e. to the left in the drawing, in order to bring the pinion c with the gear wheel of the pulp engine into engagement, the brake lining of the disc d comes out of contact with the eye h.
When Rüekgan j (to the right in the drawing) the armature shaft a under the action of the usual, not shown spring (or springs) for the armature retraction, the lining f of the flange e comes into braking contact with the eye h and sets the rotating armature shaft a quickly quiet. At the same time, however, the brake disk d with the lining f and the eye h also form a dirt-tight seal, which prevents dirt from penetrating the bearing g.
The wreath offers an additional protection. The construction can experience various changes compared to the one described above. Instead of z. B. to provide frustoconical open surfaces on the brake disc and the Ge housing, you could also use flat surfaces.
The wreath j could also be omitted. The brake disc could also carry the brake lining on an outer surface of its flange, and the end of the housing could then be provided with a cone-shaped recess, the inner surface of which would work together with the brake lining.
In this case, the flange e would have to be arranged in a mirror image of the position shown in the drawing. The brake lining attached to its outer surface could then, for. B. cooperate with the frustoconical In nenfläche of the ring j.
The brake lining could also be attached to the housing instead of the brake disk and under certain circumstances this blag can even be omitted so that the brake disk and housing act directly on one another to brake the armature. In any case, the braking effect must lead to a rapid standstill of the armature,
so that in the event of the engine being started up again quickly after a first unsuccessful start-up, damage to the pinion or the gearwheel of the internal combustion engine due to mutual engagement while the pinion is still rotating is prevented.
