Additional patent to the main patent No. 259444. Process for the production of a disazo dye. It has been found that a valuable disazo dye is obtained by using the diazo compound of the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0006
in which the sulfonic acid group occupies the same position as the sulfonic acid group in the 3-nitro-6-chlorobenzene-sulfonic acid (1) obtainable by sulfonation of 3-nitro-6-chlorobenzene-sulfonic acid- (1) -N-methylanilide
- [N-met.hylanilide-sulfonic acid], combined with 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid.
When dry, the new dye is a blue powder that dissolves in water with a blue color and dyes wool from an acidic bath in blue tones.
The starting material used as the monoazo dye of the formula above can be prepared in a manner known per se by, for example, diazotized 3-amino-6-chlorobenzene-sulfonic acid (1) - [N-methylanilide-sulfonic acid] with 1-aminonaphthalene united.
3-Amino-6-chlorobenzene-sulfonic acid - (1) - [N-methylanilide-sulfonic acid] can also be prepared by methods known per se, for example by adding 3-nitro-6-chlorobenzene-1-sulfonic acid chloride N-methylaniline is converted, the resulting 3-nitro-6-chlorobenzene-sulfonic acid (1) -N-methylanilide is sulfonated and the nitro group is then reduced to the amino group.
The diazotization of the starting monoazo dye of the above formula can be carried out, for example, by first treating a weakly alkaline solution of the monoazo dye with an excess of sodium nitrite solution, then with an excess of mineral acid, e.g. B. hydrochloric acid, added, and the resulting sparingly soluble diazoazo compound isolated by Fil tration.
The coupling of the diazoazo compound with. the 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid is preferably done in acidic, z. B. vinegar acidic medium.
Example: 37.7 parts of 3-amino-6-chlorobenzenesulfonic acid (1) - [N-methylanilide-X-sulfonic acid] who are suspended with 250 parts of water and 4 parts of sodium hydroxide solved. It is mixed with 7 parts of sodium nitrite and here to below 50 with 30 parts of conc. Hydrochloric acid. The initially oily diazo compound soon crystallizes and is coupled as usual with 14.3 parts of 1-aminonaphthalene.
The blue-red aminoazo dye is isolated, suspended in 800 parts of water, converted into the sodium salt with sodium hydroxide, mixed with a concentrated solution of 8 parts of sodium nitrite and then concentrated with 60 parts. Hydrochloric acid added.
The brown diazo compound is filtered off after a few hours, washed with dilute hydrochloric acid, aasge slurried with 100 parts of water and trium in a solution of 32 parts of 1-phenylaminonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid, 30 parts of crystallized sodium acetate and 5 parts of acetic acid in 400 parts Water entered. After a few hours, the dye suspension is ver sets until the weakly alkaline reaction with sodium carbonate.
At 750 the dye is precipitated with saturated sodium chloride solution, filtered hot, washed with dilute sodium chloride solution and dried.
