Carburateur.
Carburetor. The present invention relates to a carburetor comprising a nozzle through which the fuel arrives and a main air intake controlled by a shutter-regulator.
The carburetor according to the invention is characterized in that this shutter is integral with a piston sliding in a cylinder, the interior of which communicates with a space, located downstream of the shutter and in which a vacuum due to prevails. the suction of the engine, the interior of this cylinder communicating, on the other hand, with the atmosphere by a passage whose degree of opening is a function of the position of an adjusting member. of the degree of nozzle opening.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the carburetor according to the invention.
The fi-. 1 shows a section of this faith-me execution by a plane passing through the axis of the nozzle and through that of the air intake shutter, and FIG. 2 shows a detail.
The carburetor shown comprises a base 1 provided with a pipe 2, connected to the duct: suction of the engine. In this, orle 1 is adjusted the lower edge of a housing 3 which is pierced with windows, air intake such as 3ar. This housing 3 is provided with a seat 9 for the shutter-regulator 4. It forms a cylinder for a piston 5, forming part of this shutter 4. The assembly (the shutter and the piston is guided by an axial rod 6. which is carried by a cover 7 closing the housing 3.
The free end of the rod ends in a cylindrical head 8 which is engaged with gentle friction in an axial perforation of the shutter. This head provides support for a spring 10 which is threaded onto the rod 6 and which exerts its thrust against a shoulder of the shutter. Perforations 11 formed in the rod 6 and its head 8 make the housing of the spring 10 communicate with the space located downstream of the shutter 4 and in which the. depression due to engine aspiration.
This housing communicates that, on the other hand, with the interior of the cylinder, between the piston 5 and the cover 7, by a free space 12 left around the rod 6. Another spring 13 is placed around the rod 6 between the piston 5 and the cover 7. It rests against the cover 7 and exerts on the shutter 4 an action opposite to that of the spring 9.
The rod 6 is screwed into the cover 7 which it passes through. It carries on the outside thereof a cap nut 14, which screws, on the other hand, on a central threaded projection of the cover. The purpose of this arrangement is to -allow to adjust the power: of the spring 10 by a longitudinal displacement of the rod 6 and to fix the latter to the. desired position. The cover 7 extends above: projections. laterals presented on either side by the box 3. One of these projections has a longitudinal duct 15 connected to a radial duct 16 of the base 1.
The duct 16 ends in a chamber, annular 17 surrounding the seat 9 of the shutter 4, and communicating by a ring of small holes 17a, drilled in the housing 3, with the suction pipe 2 downstream of the shutter tor.
The duct 15 communicates, on the other hand, by means of a radial perforation 18 of the cover 7 with the inside of the cylinder in which the piston 5 slides. A pin 19 which the cover 7 carries makes it possible to vary the passage section. of the bypass as follows: created. This needle could be controlled in accordance with the nozzle opening.
The other side projection of the housing 3 is pierced with a longitudinal hole in. which smooth neck the stem of a valve 20. The chapel: this valve communicates through a radial perforation 21 .du cover 7 with the interior of the cylinder. Its lift can be adjusted by screwing or unscrewing the seat 23. The other end of the rod 19 protrudes outside.
It is kept in permanent contact with a ramp 24, carried by a maneuvering lever 25, by a spring 22 acting on the valve 20.
A body 26 is fixed to the base 1 by means of a flange. The interior of this body communicates via a channel 27 with a radial duct of the base which ends in the annular chamber 17. A nozzle 28 diametrically opposed to the Banal 27. Provides access to the air for emulsifying the liquid fuel. . The latter arrives via a nozzle 29, screwed into the body 26, and provided with an adjusting needle 30. This needle slides in a cylindrical projection 31 of the body 26.
On the projection 31 is threaded a sleeve 32 which. is integral with the lever 25 and which carries a thread. This thread receives a cap nut 33 in one piece with a second operating lever 34. The needle 30 freely passes through the bottom of the cap 33.
It carries beyond the latter a nut 35 and locknut 35a which is kept pressed on the bottom of the cap 33 by a spring 36.
The lever 25 is connected to the accelerator pedal and the lever 34 to a lever placed within reach of the driver's hand, for example on the steering wheel.
The lever 25 is used to adjust the degree of opening of the nozzle 29, according to the force required of the engine. The lever 34 is intended for an independent operation and is used to close the arrival of fuel and to open it without changing the setting made by acting on the lever 25.
When the lever 25 is in the position which corresponds to the idling speed of the engine, the rod 19 of the valve 20 is in a depression a (fig. 2) of the ramp 24, so that the valve 20 is fully open. It thus allows the outside air to enter in sufficient quantity into the cylinder so that there is no appreciable depression in this space.
The shutter 4 urged by the vacuum in the tube 2 and by the spring 13 therefore remains on its seat and allows air to enter the tube 2 only through the holes 17a. If one then acts on the lever 25 in the desired direction, the needle 30 is raised by means of the cap 33 and the fuel arrives in greater quantity through the nozzle. At the same time, a sudden slope of the ramp 24 raises the rod 19 of the valve 20 which thus throttles the passage of air re-entry into the cylinder.
The depression reigning in the tubular 2 and due to the suction of the engine can thus begin to be felt in the cylinder behind the udder 5 which moves by moving the shutter 4 away from its seat, so that air entering through the windows, 3a of the main intake, reaches the pipe 2.
If one continues to maneuver the lever 25 in the same direction, it is a gently sloping part b of the ramp 24 which comes to appear under the end of the rod 19. The valve 20 therefore continues to close gradually. .
The vacuum prevailing in the cylinder approaches, consequently, more and more that which prevails in, the tubing 2. In the state of mode, this vacuum prevailing in the cylinder counterbalances the resultant of the effect of the depression. acting on the shutter 4 on the side of the. tubing 2 and tending to bring it back to iî. its closed position and the respective actions of the springs 9 and 13 for a determined lifting of the shutter 4.
This lifting is, on the other hand, linked to the degree of opening of the nozzle. By screwing the member 23 more or less, one can adjust. independently (the position of the lever \? 5, the degree of opening of the passage connecting the interior of the cylinder with the atmosphere.
A variant of the carburetor described could be arranged to operate with a gaseous fuel.
