In Fig. 14 bezeichnet 36 eine Last, welche z.

In FIG. 1 of the drawing, 10 generally denotes a welding circuit in which a welding transformer 12 is used to push a welding current of relatively low voltage through the secondary winding 13 to the workpiece 14, which is between the electrodes 15.
In order to apply a large amount of electrical energy to the primary winding 16 of the transformer 12 during a relatively short period of time, suitable mit 1e1, such as. B. the capacitor 17 is provided. The capacitor 17 is made of an appro priate electrical energy source, such as. B. the DC generator 18 fed.
An impedance 19 is connected in series with generator 18 and capacitor 17 to limit the current delivered by generator 18 to prevent it from delivering a significant amount of energy directly to primary 16 of transformer 12 when connected to the capacitor 17 is connected.
To connect the primary winding 16 of the transformer 12 to the capacitor 17, a valve device such as. B. the arc discharge device or valve 20 is provided. The valve 20 can be of any suitable type, e.g. B. with an anode 21, a mercury cathode 22 and a control or ignition electrode 28, which are housed in a housing 24 together in a known manner.
To apply a control voltage to the control or ignition electrode 23 for the purpose of making the tube 20 conductive under certain th conditions, a control device such as. B. the gas discharge tube 25. The gas discharge tube may be of any suitable type and z. B. a cathode 27, which is electrically heated, an anode 26 and a control grid 28 contain.
In order to render the gas discharge tube 25 non-conductive before the charge on the capacitor 17 reaches a certain value, means can be provided to apply a negative bias voltage to the control grid 28 until the charge on the capacitor has reached the certain value. Since the charging current will have dropped to approximately zero through the impedance 19 when the charge of the capacitor reaches a maximum, a voltage potentiometer 30 can be connected to the impedance 19 to bring about the desired negative voltage on the control grid 28.
To limit the grid circuit, a protective resistor 31 can be provided. When the capacitor 17 is first connected to the generator 18, the voltage drop in the impedance 19 due to the charging current passing through it behaves proportionally large and as a result, a relatively high, negative bias is applied to the grid 28 of the gas discharge tube 25 from the potentiometer 30.
As a result, the gas discharge device 25 is made non-conductive, so that the arc discharge tube 20 actually separates the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12 from the capacitor 17. As soon as the charge of the capacitor 17 reaches a certain value, the voltage drop in the impedance 19 is reduced to a certain value, so that the negative bias voltage at the control grid 28 is reduced enough to make the gas discharge tube 25 conductive.
In this way, an excitation circuit is created for the ignition electrode 23 from the positive terminal of the capacitor 17 through the conductor 32, the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12, the gas discharge tube 25, the ignition electrode 23, the mercury cathode 22, and the conductor 33 to the nega tive terminal of the capacitor. In this way, the arc discharge tube 20 is made conductive, so that the capacitor 17 is discharged through the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer and generates a relatively high current surge in the secondary winding 13 of the same for a relatively short period of time to perform a weld on the workpiece 14.
As soon as the arc discharge tube 20 becomes conductive, the voltage between the anode 26 and the cathode 27 of the gas discharge tube 25 is reduced to the arc waste between the anode 21 and the cathode 22 of the arc discharge tube 20. As soon as the discharge of the capacitor 17 begins, the current begins to flow from the generator 18 through the impedance 1.9, and a negative bias is now automatically applied to the control grid 28 by the potentiometer 30 from the impedance 19 , so that the gas discharge tube 25 becomes non-conductive.
The current supply to the ignition electrode 23 of the arc discharge tube is interrupted, and the current continues to flow through the arc discharge tube until the current drops to a value below the certain minimum, which it is necessary to get the tube conductive Primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12 with the Kon capacitor 17 is interrupted, which can then be recharged by the generator 18, whereupon the described. Cycle repeated.
If the current tends to flow from the generator 18 through the arc discharge tube, the reverse current oscillation of the capacitor 17 will counteract this tendency and make the device non-conductive. Since the reactance of the welding transformer is caused by the characteristics of the same, and the transformer alone cannot generate sufficient reactance to obtain a discharge circuit for the capacitor 17 with the desired natural frequency, an external reactance 35 can enter the discharge circuit of the capacitor can be used to create the desired characteristics in the circuit.
In this way, the capacitor can be charged for a relatively long period of time and discharged during a relatively short period of time. In this way, current waves with a relatively steep wave front can be generated in order to deliver relatively large amounts of electrical energy to the welding circuit during short time intervals without causing excessive energy output at the generator 18.
In the device shown in FIG. 2, an induction melting furnace 36 has an induction coil 37, and the crucible 38 for receiving a charge to be melted can be arranged in the discharge circuit of the capacitor 17 instead of the welding capacitor 12 of FIG. The capacitor 17 can be connected to the generator 18 via an impedance 19 in the same way as shown and described in connection with FIG.
Instead of a single arc discharge tube 20 and the associated gas discharge tube 25 for connecting the discharge circuit with the induction melting furnace to the capacitor to generate single-period energy pulses, an additional tube in the form of an arc discharge tube 40 with an anode 41, a mercury cathode 42 and an ignition electrode 43 can be provided.
In this case, the two arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 are arranged in the known push-pull circuit so that the current from the capacitor 17 is passed through the circuit of the induction coil 37 in both directions instead of only in one direction as in FIG. The capacitor can then be arranged in such a way that its discharges go through the induction coil in opposite directions and generate relatively high-frequency vibrations in this.
A gas discharge tube 25 can serve to apply a control voltage to the ignition electrode 23 of the arc discharge tube 20 in order to make the same first lei tend in a manner similar to that described for FIG. To make the Lichtbogenent discharge tubes 20 and 40 optionally one after the other conductive, so that the induction load circuit Hochfre frequency oscillations can be generated by the alternating charge and discharge of the capacitor 17 in which the induction coil 37 and the auxiliary reactance 35 contain the induction load circuit. you can provide means to the two ignition electrodes 23 and 43 of the two arc discharge tubes to supply current. For this purpose z.
B. an auxiliary capacitor may be provided in order to conduct a high-frequency ignition current from the discharge circuit into the ignition electrodes 23 and 24. In order to prevent the application of reverse voltages to the ignition electrodes 23 and 43 when the current oscillations in the discharge circuit run in the opposite direction to the directions in which the respective tubes conduct, rectifiers 46 and 47 can be provided to protect the ignition electrodes.
When the capacitor 17 is initially connected to the generator 18 for charging, a negative bias voltage is applied to the control grid 28 of the Gasen't- charge tube 25 from the potentiometer 30 due to the voltage drop caused by the charging current in the pedanz 19.
As soon as the charge of the capacitor 17 reaches a certain value, the voltage drop in the impedance 19 drops to a certain th value, so that the negative voltage imposed on the control grid 28 is reduced enough to make the gas discharge tube 25 conductive.
The voltage is then applied from the capacitor 17 to the ignition electrode 23 through a circuit from the positive terminal of the capacitor 17 via the conductor 32, the induction coil 37, the auxiliary reactance 35, the conductor 49, the conductor 50, the anode 26 and Ka method 27 of the gas discharge tube 25,
the ignition electrode 23 and the mercury cathode 22 of the arc discharge tube 20 and the conductor 33 to the negative side of the capacitor. The arc discharge device 20 becomes conductive, and the capacitor 17 charges through the induction coil 37, the auxiliary reactance 35, the conductor 49, the arc discharge device 20 and the conductor 33 to the other terminal of the capacitor 17.
In this way the capacitor is charged in the opposite direction and the arcs in the ignitron 20 are extinguished. The connected between the Ignitrone 23 and 43 auxiliary capacitor 45 results in a relatively moderately low impedance for the Kon capacitor 17 after the extinction of the arc in the arc tube 20 imposed voltage with steep waves forehead. As soon as the Ignitron 20 becomes non-conductive, a voltage suddenly appears on the capacitor 45.
This latter case occurs when the capacitor 17 is charged with maximum voltage and this forms the only voltage source in the circuit 17-33-20-50-.49-35-37-32. At the moment when the Ignitron 20 is non-conductive, the entire Kapazi ity potential of the anode and cathode of the Ignitron is pressed (since the capacity of the anode and cathode of the Ignitron is small). The anode is connected to one terminal of the capacitor 45 and the cathode to the other.
In this way, the ignition electrode 43 is subjected to a comparatively violent excitation current surge through a circuit from the now positive terminal of the capacitor 17 through the conductor 33, the rectifier 47, conductor 52, auxiliary capacitor 45, conductor 53, rectifier 46, Ignition electrode 43, mercury cathode 42, conductor 49, auxiliary reactance 35, induction coil 37 and conductor 32 to the other terminal of the capacitor 17.
In this way, the arc discharge tube 40 is conductive and the capacitor 17 is charged again through the induction coil 37 in the opposite direction via the circuit from conductor 33 through conductor 54, arc tube 40, conductor 49, auxiliary reactance 35, induction coil 37 and conductor 32 to other terminal of the capacitor 17.
As a result of the absorption of the electrical energy for melting the contents of the crucible 38 and the overcoming of the impedance of the discharge circuit, the amplitude of the oscillations of the high frequency current in the discharge circuit gradually decreases until the voltage in the capacitor has dropped so far that the ignition electrodes 23 and 43 by the auxiliary capacitor 45 on suppressed high-frequency current is insufficient to make the tubes 20 and 40 conductive. Under these conditions, the tubes 20 and 40 become non-conductive and the capacitor 17 is switched off by the induction coil 37 so that it can be recharged by the generator 18.
The sequence is repeated as soon as the voltage of the capacitor 17 again reaches the certain value, at which the negative bias on the grid of the gas discharge tube 25 is reduced enough to make the tube conductive.
By properly balancing the generator power 18 by setting the impedance 19 with the amount of energy recorded in the discharge circuit with the induction winding 37, high-frequency oscillations can be maintained in the discharge circuit.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, 55 denotes conductors connected to an alternating current source. A matching tube such. B. the rectifier tube 56 is connected between the conductor 55 and the Kon capacitor <B> 17 </B> in series with an adjustable impedance 57 to regulate the charging amount of the capacitor. The primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12 is connected to the capacitor 17 by light arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 in push-pull circuit, in a manner similar to that described for FIG.
Instead of a gas discharge tube of the type shown in FIG. 2 for initiating the conductivity of the arc discharge tubes as a function of certain conditions of the capacitor voltage, an open spark gap or, as shown in FIG. 3, a low-pressure flashover path 60 can be used. The rollover path 60 can, for. B. of the kind that is used for the protection of the capacitors built into transmission lines. The spark gap can, for.
B. a pair in a housing 62 in certain Ab stood from each other used electrodes 61 included and the pressure in the housing ver relatively low, so that a glow discharge between the electrodes can arise when the same a relatively low voltage of a certain value is pressed. The low pressure rollover path 60 can, for. B. between. the ignition electrodes 23 and 43 be connected in parallel to the auxiliary capacitor 45.
As soon as the voltage of the capacitor 17 reaches a certain value, a flashover occurs at the flashover path 60, since the same is connected to the capacitor 17 via a circuit from the positive terminal of the capacitor through the conductor 32, the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12, the auxiliary reactance 35, the conductor 54, the rectifier 47, Wi resistor 64, low-pressure flashover section 60, rectifier 46, ignition electrode 43 and conductor 50 to the negative terminal of the capacitor Kon.
In this way, the arc discharge tube 40 is conductive, and the capacitor 17 discharges through the same and through the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer, whereby a welding current surge is induced in the secondary winding 13, through which the capacitor 17 in the opposite direction to the first charge is loaded.
Since the auxiliary capacitor 45 forms a path of relatively low impedance for the voltage with a steep wave front, which occurs suddenly at the capacitor 45 when the arc is extinguished, the ignition electrode 23 of the arc discharge tube 20 is excited by a relatively violent current surge, which the same from the auxiliary capacitor 45 is supplied via the circuit described in connection with FIG.
The arc discharge tube 20 becomes conductive and the capacitor 17 is discharged again through the primary winding 16, this time through the arc discharge tube 20, which discharges again in the original direction; In this way, successive high-frequency current surges in opposite directions can be generated by the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12 in a relatively short period of time in order to induce high-frequency welding currents in the secondary winding 13 of the same for welding the object 14 clamped between the electrodes 15.
Instead of via the capacitor 45, the tubes 20 and 40 can also be repeatedly fed with ignition current via the flashover section 60. For this purpose, the rollover distance must be correctly dimensioned. If the ignition of the tubes takes place via the flashover section, the capacitor 45 can be omitted.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the capacitor 17 can also be fed directly with current from the current source 55 instead of from a rectifier (56). This variant is particularly useful in those cases in which the capacitor 45 is not used and the load has decayed in such a way that the reverse voltage that is depressed after the first discharge of the capacitor 17 is insufficient to skip the flashover path 60.
In such a case, a single burst of current flows through one of the tubes 20 or 40 during each half cycle of the power source 55. During the subsequent half cycle, the discharged capacitor 17 is charged again with the opposite polarity and discharges through the other tube (40 or 20).
In this variant, the constants of the charging circuit must be such that the energy stored in capacitor 17 during each charge is practically completely absorbed by the discharge, so that the reverse voltage imposed on capacitor 17 during discharge is relatively low.
In the device shown in Fig. 4 Einrich the capacitor 17 is ruled out by means of conductor 55 to an AC power source. An impedance is provided to limit the charging current going from the power source to the capacitor Kon, consisting, for. B. from the resistor 68 and the Dros selspule 69. A resistor 70 and a choke coil 71 are provided in the discharge circuit to regulate the amplitude and frequency of the vibrations generated by the discharge of the capacitor 17.
With the capacitor 17, an induction melting apparatus 36 is connected via a tube 72, which has an induction coil 37 and a crucible 38 inserted into this for receiving a loading to be melted loading.
Instead of the independent arc discharge tubes of the type described in connection with FIGS. 1 to 3, the arc discharge tubes are combined in a single tube of the arc discharge type, which in an inverted U-shaped housing 73 mercury poles 74 and 75 at the lower ends of the alternately as anodes and cathode acting legs, the effect of which depends on the instantaneous polarity of the voltage applied, and control or ignition electrodes 76 and 77 be seated. The housing can contain a small amount of foreign gas, e.g. B.
Argon, contained in order to ensure a quick response at low mercury vapor pressure.
To initiate the action of the tube 72 and to keep the same conductive, the low-pressure flashover section 60 is provided. In addition, as mentioned above, rectifiers 46 can be provided in order to divert any reverse voltage which would otherwise be impressed on the ignition electrodes. Resistors 78 are used to limit the current in the low-pressure flashover section 60.
As soon as the capacitor voltage reaches a predetermined value, the flashover takes place at the low-pressure flashover section 60, with a positive voltage being applied to one of the ignition electrodes 76 or 77, depending on which capacitor terminal is positive. The circuit goes z. B.
from one terminal of the capacitor 17 through the resistor 70, the impedance 71, the rectifier 46, the resistor 78, arcing gap 60, resistor 78, ignition electrode 77, mercury pole 75, induction coil 37 and conductor 32 to the other terminal of the capacitor. This makes the tube 72 conductive in the direction from the positive to the negative terminal or from the mercury pole 74 to the mercury pole 75, so that the capacitor 17 is discharged through the coil 37 of the induction melting furnace and the capacitor is discharged. 17 is loaded in the opposite direction.
The generated high-frequency voltage comes over again at the low-pressure flashover section 60, so that a positive voltage is applied to the other ignition electrodes and the switch 72 becomes conductive in the opposite direction. This sequence continues for the successive high-frequency oscillations generated by the discharge of the capacitor 17 through the inductive load circuit and maintains a high-frequency load current through the induction coil 37 until the capacitor voltage is below that for the flashover in the flashover required value drops, whereupon the capacitor is charged again by the source.
Since the discharge oscillations of the capacitor have a relatively high frequency, many discharges can occur in a single half-cycle of the source if the capacitor is connected to a standard 50-cycle network. During the next half cycle, the capacitor is discharged in the opposite direction, and the same sequence of events occurs.
In the Ausfüh shown in Fig. 5 approximately denotes 55 connected to an alternating current source conductor. A switching device 79 serves to connect the capacitor 17 to the conductors 55 via a reactance 80, which can be designed such that it forms a charging circuit for the capacitor with an inductive reactance of approximately half the capacitive reactance of the capacitor 17.
A tube device 81 with the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 in push-pull circuit is provided for connecting the capacitor 17 to the primary winding of the welding transformer 12, as described above be. Furthermore, suitable control means are provided in the form of Gasentladungsvor devices 82 and 83 with anodes 84, 85, cathodes 86, 87 and control grids 8 $, 89 to the ignition electrodes 23 and 43 of the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 to apply a control voltage to the same to make conductive.
Since the inductive discharge reactance of the charging circuit of the capacitor 17 is roughly equal to half the capacitive reactance of the capacitor, the natural frequency of the charging circuit is the same
EMI0007.0025
times the frequency of the power source, and as a result, there is an oscillating voltage wave of the capacitor in the manner all common in Fig. 6, in which the curve a denotes the fundamental voltage wave of the source and b denotes the voltage wave of the capacitor.
It can be seen here that the voltage wave b of the capacitor 17 successively reaches higher peaks in the first couple of half-periods, each of which is higher than the voltage of the source.
By normally not making the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 conductive and only making them conductive when the capacitor voltage reaches a comparatively high value, as indicated in point c of curve b in FIG. 6, it is possible to intermittently excite the ignition electrodes 23 and 43 to obtain the arc discharge devices 20 and 40, for example, only every third half cycle of the capacitor voltage wave to make conductive.
In this way, intermittent discharges of the capacitor of alternately opposite polarity can be obtained, since the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 are only conductive for odd half-periods of the capacitor voltage wave. The same conductors alternately with positive and negative half-waves of the capacitor voltage. This use of alternating positive and negative half-waves of the capacitor voltage wave prevents saturation of the transformer cores in the welding and load circuits,
since the cores of each transformer are excited with practically the same number of positive and negative half-waves during a given period of time, thereby preventing the development of a direct current component in the charging and discharging circuits.
In order to keep the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 normally non-conductive, means such as the batteries 90 and 91 can be provided to normally apply negative bias voltages to the control grid 88 and 89. By using a regulating resistor 92 with adjustable contact organs 93 and 94 in order to force the control grids 88 and 89 to have a voltage proportional to the capacitor voltage applied between the cathodes 22 and 42 of the arc discharge tubes, the voltage of the grids 88 and 89 can be dependent speed can be changed by the voltage of the capacitor 17.
As soon as the capacitor voltage is sufficiently high to overcome the negative bias voltage imposed on each of the grids by the batteries 90 or 91, the gas discharge tube becomes conductive, and the arc discharge tube controlled by this becomes conductive and connects the capacitor 17 to the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer.
When the capacitor 17 is connected to the conductor 55 by closing the switch 79, the capacitor voltage will generally change as shown by curve b in FIG. The batteries 90 and 91 normally apply a negative bias voltage to the grids 88 and 89, whereby the gas discharge devices 82 and 83 become non-conductive.
An alternating voltage proportional to the capacitor voltage is superimposed on the grids 88 and 89 by the resistor 92, the contact elements 93 and 94, since the regulating resistor 92 is connected to the capacitor 17 via a circuit from one terminal of the capacitor through the conductor 32, the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12, the auxiliary reactance 35, the rectifier 46, the battery 91, regulating resistor 92, battery 90, ignition electrode 23, cathode 22 and conductor 33 to the other terminal of the capacitor 17.
If the upper terminal of the capacitor is momentarily positive, the voltage drop in resistor 92 makes control grid 88 more negative and overcomes the negative bias voltage of battery 91, whereby the negative bias voltage at control grid 89 is reduced enough to make gas discharge tube 83 conductive close. The capacitor voltage is pushed up to the ignition electrode 43 through the gas discharge tube 83, and the arc discharge tube 40 becomes conductive. The capacitor 17 discharges through the primary winding 16 of the welding transformer 12, and the capacitor is charged in the opposite direction.
The auxiliary capacitor 45 lets the high-frequency oscillation discharge current through enough to excite the ignition electrode 23 and to make the arc discharge tube conductive. This results in an oscillating discharge, as mentioned above, which generates relatively large welding currents during the remainder of the half-cycle during which the discharge was initiated. Since the capacitor voltage is not high enough to overcome the negative bias voltage imposed on the control grid 88, until the third half cycle after the capacitor 17 has been discharged through the arc discharge tube 40, both arc discharge tubes remain during this period after the high-frequency oscillation discharge non-conductive.
When the capacitor voltage again reaches the certain value, this time in the negative direction, the negative bias of the control grid 88 of the gas discharge tube 82 is overcome and the arc discharge tube 20 tend to discharge the capacitor in the opposite direction and a number to effect high-frequency discharges during a single half cycle of the capacitor voltage. In this way, you can cause a number of intermittent oscillation discharges of the capacitor 17 - of opposite polarity, while the switch 79 remains closed.
In Fig. 7, 10 denotes a welding circuit with a welding transformer 12 with a secondary winding 13 for applying the welding current to the workpiece 14 to be welded by means of the electrodes 15, and a primary winding 16. A tube device 81 is provided for the connection of the Primary winding 10 to the capacitor 17 which emits the welding energy.
To control the connection of the welding circuit 10 to the capacitor 1.7, the tube device contains a pair of arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 in counter-clock circuit and for controlling the same gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 in the same design as described for FIG. Negative bias voltages can be applied to the control grids 88 and 89 of the gas discharge tubes by means of the batteries 90 and 91 in order to make the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 normally non-conductive.
In order to make the Gasent discharge tubes 82 and 83 selectively conductive depending on certain voltages ratios of the capacitor 17, means can be provided to the control grids 88 and 89 to push a voltage proportional to the capacitor voltage, z. B. the regulating resistor 92. As described above in connection with FIG. 5, the control voltage is superimposed on the control grids 88 and 89 by means of the regulating resistor 92, whereby one or the other control grid is positive or its negative bias voltage is sufficiently reduced by each according to the instantaneous polarity of the voltage on the capacitor 17, the gas discharge tube tend to make lei.
For the connection of the capacitor 17 to the alternator 99, a switching device or tube device is provided in the form of the arc discharge tubes 95 and 96 with control electrodes 97 and 98 arranged in a push-pull circuit.
Time measuring means 100 are provided for the intermittent or periodic connection of the capacitor 17 to the power source 99 for performing intermittent or periodic welds. The time measuring means formed to bring about a synchronous connection of the capacitor 17 with the source 99 consist z. B. from gas discharge tubes 101 and 102 for the optional application of control voltages to the control electrodes 97 and 98 of the gas discharge tubes 95 and 96 to make the same optional conductive. The Gasentladeröh ren 101 and 102 can be provided with control grids 103 and 104, which are connected to suitable sources of negative bias, such as. B. the rectifier bridge circuits 105 and 106 are connected.
Windings 107 and 108, which are placed on a magnetic core 109 with an air gap 110, are inserted between the sources of the negative bias voltage and the control grids. A disk-shaped member 112 has a number of pins 113 made of magnetic material 113 on its circumference, which are spaced apart and run through the air gap when the disk 112 rotates. A synchronous motor 114 fed by the source 99 is used to drive the disk 112.
The rotation of the disc causes changes in the magnetic resistance of the air gap 110, which induces voltage surges in the windings 107 and 108, which are alternately applied to the negative bias voltages that are applied to the control gates 103 and 104 by the rectifier bridge circuits. add and subtract. In this way, the gas discharge tubes 101 and 102 can be made conductive periodically or intermittently by means of voltage surges occurring at any desired intervals by changing the spacing of the magnetic pins 113 on the disk 112.
Phase control means are provided to control the particular point in the various circuits in which the arc discharge devices 95 and 96 are rendered conductive. For example, gas discharge tubes 117 and 118 with control grids 119 and 120 are used to shunt the regulating resistors 121 and 121a, which normally limit the current to the ignition electrodes 97 and 98 of the arc discharge tubes 95 and 96 in order to prevent the gas discharge tubes 101 and 102 from becoming conductive up to certain, variable points in each circuit in which the gas discharge tubes 101 and 102 are conductive. The gas discharge tubes 117 and 118 can, for.
B. by applying appropriate bias voltages to the control grids 119 and 120 by regulating transformers 122 and 123 are controlled. To change the phase of the voltages applied to the regulating transformers 122 and 123 with respect to the voltage of the source 99, a phase shifter 124 is provided. This phase shift circuit 124 is fed by a transformer 125 connected to the source 99, the secondary winding 127 of which is provided with a central tap 128.
An impedance circuit is provided by a voltage divider resistor 130 connected to the secondary winding 127 and by an impedance connected to part of the resistor. The phase shift circuit 124 is connected to the control transformers 122 and 123 by means of an adjustable tap 132 on the resistor 130 and an adjustable tap 134 between the center tap 128 of the regulating transformer 125 and a balancing resistor 136 connected between the regulating transformers 122 and 123.
By connecting a suitable Re reactance 138 to the source 99 and the capacitor 17 with an inductive impedance of approximately half the capacitive impedance of the capacitor 17, an oscillation charging circuit for the capacitor 17 can be obtained, as shown in the voltage curves according to FIG. 6 shown.
By a suitable choice of the impedance 138 with respect to .den capacitor 17 one obtains a component of the capacitor charging current with a frequency equal to the square root of twice the frequency of the source. Under these conditions, according to the curves according to FIG. 6, the resulting capacitor voltage will have a frequency different from the frequency of the voltage of the source and will successively reach higher peak values. until a maximum is reached in the third half cycle after connecting the capacitor to the source.
Since the values and the nature of the fluctuations in the capacitor voltage with respect to the voltage of the source change depending on the point at which the capacitor is connected to the source with respect to the voltage wave of the source, the phase shift circuit is important for safeguarding. the right relationships between the voltages of the capacitor and the source to achieve the desired ratios.
By correct choice of the relative values of the control grids 88 and 89 of the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83, negative bias voltages and the same by the regulating resistor 92 depending on the instantaneous voltages of the capacitor 17 voltages, an optional conductivity of the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 can be effected , so that the welding process is initiated only on the odd half-periods of the capacitor voltage, as described for FIGS. 5 and 6. By separating the welding pulses in this way, intermittent high-frequency welding pulses can be generated without generating a direct current component in the charging or welding circuit.
By changing the phase shift, the load on the capacitor can be changed and heat regulation of the welding process can be achieved. The effect of the high-frequency capacitor discharges on the power source can also be reduced to a minimum by connecting the capacitor to the welding current circuit at the zero point of the voltage wave of the source. In Fig. 8 of the drawing, 10 denotes, as above, a welding circuit which is connected to the capacitor 17 serving to supply the welding energy by means of a switching device 140 for carrying out welding processes of various times.
For charging, the capacitor 17 is connected to the conductors 55 which are connected to a source of alternating current. The switching device 140 includes a pair of push-pull arc discharge tubes 20 and 40, which are controlled by gas discharge tubes 82 and 83, which are normally non-conductive by means of the control grids 88 and 89 imprinted negative biases, which in the manner described above by batteries 90 and 91 to be delivered.
As described above, a regulating resistor 92 is provided to superimpose the control grids 88 and 89 positive voltages by which the negative bias voltages can be suppressed to sufficiently low values to make the discharge tubes 82 and 83 selectively conductive. The counter stand 92 includes separate sections 92a and 92b instead of a single section as in Fig. 5 for a purpose indicated below.
So that the discharge tubes 82 and 83 are only conductive for certain periods of time, which can be determined by the operator, time measuring means 142 are provided to control the connection of the resistor sections 92a and 92b. For this purpose, switches 143 and 144 with the contacts 143a and 144a, which are connected between the sections 92a and 92b and are actuated by the switch coils 145 and 146, are used.
The coil 146 is connected to the rectifier bridge circuit 147 directly and the coil 145 connected to this in series with a control tube which has an anode 149, a control grid 150 and a cathode 151 and can be fed from a power source. A control switch 152 is provided in order to connect the rectifier bridge circuit 147 to an alternating current source for the purpose of starting the welding process, e.g. B. with the transformer 153 connected to the conductors 55 i.
To achieve a correctly timed welding duration, the control grid 150 of the control tube 148 is connected to the rectifier bridge circuit via a resistor 155, which results in a negative bias voltage between the control grid 150 and the cathode 151 as long as current flows through the resistor 155. A capacitor 157 is used to regulate the duration of the current passage through the. Resistor 155, which is connected in parallel by means of a movable con tact 158 and a regulating resistor 159.
When the control switch 152 is closed, the rectifier bridge circuit 147 is fed directly and the control switch 144 closes its contacts 144a in order to connect the sections 92a and 92b of the regulating resistance between the control electrodes 23 and 43 of the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40,
so that the capacitor voltage 17 is impressed on them. A voltage proportional to the voltage of the capacitor 17 is thereby superimposed on the control grids 88 and 89 through the contact elements 93 and 94 in the manner described above for FIG. 5, and the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 are dependent on the voltage conditions of the capacitor 17 made conductive.
As soon as the rectifier bridge circuit 147 is connected to the power source, the anode voltage of the anode 149 of the tube 148 is impressed, and a limited current flows through the circuit from the positive terminal of the bridge circuit via the coil 145 of the control switch 143, the anode 149 of the tube 148, Cathode 151 and regulating resistor 159 to the negative terminal of the rectifier bridge. In this way, a voltage is generated at the resistor 159, which charges the capacitor 157 through the resistor 155, makes the cathode 151 positive with respect to the regulating resistor 155 and thereby prevents
that the tube 148 allows sufficient current to pass through the control switch 148 to operate.
As soon as the capacitor 157 is charged, the current stops flowing through the regulating resistor 155, and the negative bias of the control grid 150 is lifted. The control tube 148 then becomes conductive enough to actuate the control switch 143 so that its contacts 143a switch off the sections of the regulating resistor 92 and the voltage of the capacitor 17 is removed from the control grids 88 and 89. The gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 become non-conductive again in this way, and the welding process is ended.
As can be seen from FIG. 9, the welding circuit 10 is connected to the capacitor 17 by a pair of arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 which are controlled by the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 and are connected in a push-pull circuit. The latter are arranged in the same way as described for FIGS. 5, 7 and 8.
To regulate the conductivity of the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 for the purpose of initiating welding processes, means are provided to the control grids 88 and 89 of the same normally biases of an alternating current, which are nega tive with respect to the capacitor voltages of the associated arc discharge tubes. For this purpose, a regulating transformer 160 is used, the primary winding 161 of which is connected to the alternating current source from which the capacitor 17 is fed and the secondary winding 162 and 163 of which are connected to the cathodes 86, 87 of the gas discharge tubes and their related control grids 88, 89 are.
To change the point at which the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 are rendered conductive with respect to the voltage wave from the source, adjustable contacts 165 and 166 are provided to change the voltages applied to the control grids 88 and 89 from the secondary windings 162 and 168.
In order to control the conductivity of the Gasentladevor devices 82 and 88 as a function of the high-frequency oscillations, which in the discharge circuit between the Kon capacitor 17 and the primary winding 16 of the welding process through one of the two gas discharge tubes 82 and 83, suitable means are provided around the control grid 88 and 89 regardless of the power source to push control biases.
For this purpose, an auxiliary adjusting capacitor 167 and a regulating resistor 168 can be connected to regulating resistors 171 and 172 in the grid circuits by means of movable contacts 169 and 170 in order to provide a number of current paths of relatively low impedance between the cathodes 22 and 42 for the discharge - etromkreis generated high frequency oscillations to achieve and the control grids 88 and 89 to press bias voltages to make the discharge tubes 82 and 83 depending on voltage fluctuations in the discharge circuit optionally conductive.
A low-pressure flashover section 173 is connected between the control grid 88 and 89, so that it acts as a protective device in the circuit and derives any excessively high voltage waves that could be introduced into the control grid circuits.
In Fig. 10, curve d represents the voltage wave of the power source of the device of FIG. 9, while curve e represents the voltage of capacitor 17 which is connected to the charging current source. The curves f and g represent different values of the negative bias voltage, which one or the other. the two control grid 88 or 89 through the secondary winding 162 or 163 of the regulating transformer 160 is pressed.
The curve la represents the minimum value of the negative bias voltage in relation to the capacitor voltage e, which causes one of the gas discharge tubes 82 or 83 to become non-conductive. So it is every time the voltages of the capacitor and the power source are positive with respect to one of the discharge tubes 82 or 83, the bias voltages negative and normally prevent conductivity of the gas discharge tubes. When the curves f and g intersect the curve h, one of the gas discharge tubes 82 or 83 becomes conductive and initiates a welding process.
By adjusting the movable contacts 165 and 166 to change the value of the voltage imposed on the control grid 88 or 89, as shown by curves f and g, the intersection points x and the negative stresses with the curve h of the minimum negative stress can be changed so that they come to lie at different intervals in relation to the horizontal or time phase. Accordingly, the point at which the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 are conductive,
with respect to the voltage waves of the power source and the capacitor represented by curves d and e can be changed by changing the negative voltages impressed on the control grids 88 and 89.
In Fig. 11, curve e denotes the capacitor voltage wave, while curve d denotes the voltage wave of the power source. The curves l and m show different positions of the control grids 88 and 89 of the secondary windings 162 or 163 of the regulating transformer 160 under certain conditions imposed negative tensions.
By changing the current flowing through the capacitor 167 and by making the capacitor 167 sufficiently large and the resistor connected in series small enough, a considerable voltage drop can be achieved in the grid resistors 1.71 and 172 during the charging time of the capacitor 167 through the current circuit, which from the ignition electrode 28 through the conductor 174, the secondary winding 162, the contact element 165, the resistor 171, the contact element 169, the capacitor 167, the resistor 168, the contact element 170, the resistor 172,
the contact element 166, the secondary winding 163 and the Lei ter 175 to the ignition electrode 43 goes. Since the capacitor current is a charging current, the voltage drop caused by the same in the grid resistors 171 and 172 is out of phase with the voltage of the secondary winding 162 or 163. Accordingly, the resulting tension shown by curve m, which is the tension in a relatively large capacitor 167 shows to be out of phase with the normal tension generated by the secondary winding 162 or 163 shown by curve 1.
As a result, the point of intersection of the negative stress with the minimum bias curve h is advanced by increasing the capacitance of the capacitor 167. In this way, the point at which the Gasentladungsvor direction 82 and 83 with respect to the capacitor voltage wave e made conductive to who can be changed. In this way, a phase control of the ignition points of the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 with respect to the voltage wave of the power source or the capacitor can be achieved by either setting the movable taps 165 and 166 or 169 and 170 accordingly or by dimensioning the size of the capacitor 167 accordingly .
During the discharge time, the current flows from the power source through the arc discharge tubes 82 and 83 and adds algebraically to the current oscillations in the discharge or welding circuit. It can happen that when the high frequency oscillations drop in the discharge circuit, there is insufficient voltage on the capacitor 17 to allow the current in the arc discharge devices to drop to zero so that they can deionize.
The feed current can continue to flow in the inductive discharge circuit and does not reverse until late in the next half cycle. The capacitor 17 remains connected to the welding or discharge circuit and is partially short-circuited so that it cannot charge properly in the subsequent half-cycle. Or a sufficient grid bias voltage can be generated so that one or the other of the gas discharge tubes can become conductive and one or the other of the arc discharge tubes can become conductive beforehand.
In order to prevent such conditions from occurring, the device according to FIG. 9 can be modified in such a way that it is ensured in all cases that the gas discharge tubes and arc discharge tubes are made non-conductive if the capacitor voltage falls below a certain value.
As can be seen from Fig. 12, the order of the arc charging tubes 20 and 40 for the connection of the welding current circuit 10 with the capacitor 17 is essentially the same as in Fig. 9 represents. In order to ensure that the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 become non-conductive as soon as the voltage in the discharge circuit of the capacitor 17 falls to a certain value, without taking into account the bias voltages generated by the regulating transformer 160, the rectifier bridge circuits 177 and 178 are provided , by which the control grids 88 and 89 are pressed fixed, negative biases to make them negative when the same by the resistors 179 and 180 pressed,
voltages proportional to the capacitor voltage are below a desired value, so that the gas discharge tube remains non-conductive for any capacitor voltage below that. by which the gas discharge tubes can be easily controlled.
Furthermore, the switch 182 is provided for the connection of the resistors 179 and 180 for the purpose of creating a bias circuit from one terminal of the capacitor 17 to the ignition electrode 23, through the conductors 183 and 184, the rectifier 177, conductor 185, resistor 179, contact pieces 182a; Resistor 180, conductor 186, rectifier 178, conductor 187 and 188 to the ignition electrode 43 and to the other terminal of the capacitor 17.
The rectifiers 189 and 190 form conductive shunts in one direction for connec tion of the grid 88 and 89 with the] contact pieces 192 and 193 of the resistors 179 respectively. 180 as soon as the voltage of the capacitor 17 falls below the certain value in each circuit.
Regardless of the bias voltages imposed on the control grids by secondary windings 162 and 163 in each half cycle of the source voltage wave, the voltage of the grids cannot be greater than the voltages on contacts 192 and 193, and will be negative if these voltages are below the specified Worth lying.
In Fig. 13, the curve k represents the fluctuation in the voltage at the contact pieces 192 and 193 with the capacitor voltage, while the curve i shows the minimum negative grid voltage required to prevent the gas discharge tubes for different values of the capacitor voltage become conductive. The tubes lead in points over and to the right of curve i. The intersection of the curves therefore represents the lowest value of the capacitor voltage at which the gas discharge tubes can conduct, and this point can be changed by adjusting the movable contact elements 192 and 193.
If the grid voltage tends to be positive at lower capacitor voltages, the rectifiers 189 and 190 become conductive and reduce the grid voltage so that the tubes 82 and 83 at the movable contacts 192 and 193 are non-conductive under these conditions, regardless on the bias voltages generated by the secondary windings 162 and 163, so that the capacitor 17 is separated from the welding circuit 10 and charged again by the power source.
In Fig. 14, 36 denotes a load which, for. B. consists of an induction melting furnace with an induction coil 37 and a crucible 38, which the former is connected to a capacitor 17 which is connected by means of a charging current limiting impedance 69, a transformer 195 and the conductor 55 to an AC power source.
A pair of arc discharge tubes 20 and 40, arranged in a push-pull circuit and controlled by gas discharge tubes 82 and 83, serve to control the connection of the capacitor 17 to the induction coil 37. So that the gas discharge tubes 82 and 83 can normally be made non-conductive Means are provided for applying a negative bias voltage to the control grids 88 and 89 thereof, namely the rectifier bridge circuits 196 and 197, which are fed from the conductors 55 by a regulating transformer 198, and grid resistors 199 and 200.
In order to make the discharge tubes 82 and 83 conductive and to be able to shift the point at which they become conductive with respect to the voltage wave of the capacitor 17, a phase shift circuit 201 is provided to apply alternating bias voltages to the control grids 88 and 89 for the purpose of overcoming the negative bias voltages, which are pressed by the rectifier bridge circuits 196 and 197 on the same.
The phase shift circuit 201 contains a resistor network with a resistor 202 and an impedance 203, which is connected in parallel to a part thereof, and is connected to the secondary winding 204 of a transformer 205, the primary winding 206 of which is connected to the capacitor 17.
The regulating transformers 207 and 208 are connected between a movable tap 209 on the regulating resistor 202 and an adjustable tap 210, which is connected to a middle terminal 211 of the secondary winding 204 and is connected to a balancing resistor 212 to the control grids 88 and 89 before voltages depending on the changes in the capacitor voltage. In order to keep the gas discharge tube 20 and 40 conductive after a current surge has been initiated, suitable means are provided to apply the same control voltages to the ignition electrodes 23 and 43, namely the current transformer 214, which has secondary windings 215 and 216,
which between the ignition electrodes and the cathodes of the arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 are switched. Rectifiers 217 are connected in series with the secondary windings 215 and 216 in order to prevent reverse voltages from being impressed on the ignition electrodes of the arc discharge devices. Capacitors 218 are provided to regulate the time or phase relationship of the current flowing to the ignition electrodes.
The welding device shown in Fig. 14 functions in general in the same way as the other melting and welding devices described above. The negative bias voltages impressed on control grids 88 and 89 by rectifier bridge circuits 196 and 197 normally make the gas discharge tubes non-conductive.
When the capacitor voltage reaches a certain value, voltage surges are superimposed on the control grid by the phase shift circuit 201 and the regulating transformers 207 and 208, which are sufficient to make the gas discharge tubes conductive depending on the polarities of the voltages applied. When one of the arc discharge tubes, e.g.
B. the tube 20, through its associated gas discharge tube is made conductive, the capacitor 17: load through the induction coil 37, which results in the same high-frequency current oscillations.
The arc discharge tubes 20 and 40 are then ignited by the ignition electrodes 23 and 43 from the regulating transformer 214 depending on the current flowing from the capacitor 17 through the induction coil 37 to pressurized voltages 38 is created.
The point of introduction of the arc discharge tubes can, if desired, be changed with respect to the voltage wave of the capacitor 17 by means of the phase shift circuit.
The above description shows that the devices shown can be used to achieve high-frequency currents oscillating in a simple and effective manner for welding or melting by optionally connecting a capacitor connected to an energy source to a welding or melting circuit. In this way, relatively large amounts of thermal energy can be generated by the discharge of the Kon capacitor in a relatively short time.
Since the capacitor is connected to the power source through an impedance which limits the current coming from the source, little or no power is supplied directly to the load circuit from the power source. There are essentially no fluctuations in the power source generated when the welding current circuit is connected to the capacitor in the manner described above.
In those cases where the devices described are capable of generating a plurality of high frequency oscillation discharges for each charge of the capacitor 17 by the source, such as e.g. B. the devices according to Fig.
3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9, it is clear that these devices can also be used in order to achieve only a single burst of discharge for each charge of the capacitor 17 by the power source by simply using the auxiliary capacitor 45 and the flashover paths 60 and 173 are formed in such a way that flashover does not occur at the lower voltage values to which the capacitor 17 is recharged due to the oscillation nature of the discharge circuit, as clearly described in connection with FIG.
